Fergus Henderson’s original home of “Nose to Tail Eating” opened in a former smokehouse around the corner from Smithfield Market in 1994.

Celebrating the finest of indigenous British produce and making the most of what is seasonally best whilst applying straight forward cooking techniques, St. John is now celebrated as one of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World and in 2009 was awarded its first Michelin Star.

Nose to tail eating means that, where appropriate, every part of the animal should be put to good use in the kitchen and so along with Roast Beef and Lemon Sole, diners will find Rolled Pig’s Spleen, Kidneys and Ox Heart, Liver and Chitterlings as well as the Roast Bone Marrow & Parsley Salad, something of a ‘signature’ dish.

Whilst often cited as not a restaurant to take a vegetarian too, the kitchen source and prepare dishes for vegetarians with the same amount of studiousness as they do the meat, fish and poultry and desserts.

What a gem. Beyond fashion it remains consistently stellar from the beginnings to deserts.
The staff are welcoming and everything is faultless.

Wow! We went because of Anthony Bourdain's death meal proclamation, the bone marrow salad. We were fully wowed by the entire meal: white middle, parsnips, bone marrow, and the cherry trifle. Wow!

Great proper cooking. Our waiter seemed to be new, but the great head waiter stepped in leaving us with a wonderful experience. Do have the bone marrow, it is outstanding.

Reference for traditional British cuisine, reasonably priced for a starred restaurant, not everything on the menu is at the same level. Austere location (paper tablecloths, etc.) that fits the menu, but more comfortable chairs would help.

I took my partner for his birthday. I had already been to St John for a wedding but hadn’t been back since. I loved the food at the wedding so knew it would be a winner. We are both pescatarians and there was plenty of options for us. The food was delicious. The service was excellent. And value for money was spot on. Already thinking about when we can go back!

If you love meat, you must go! One of the best meals to be had in London. Thank you Anthony Bourdain ❤️

Just... get... the... bone... marrow. Just get it. Unlike the desiccated chunks of bovine femur you are used to getting when you order bone marrow, St. John serves up luscious, savory servings of this carnivore's delight. Had we known, we would have ordered two. I was sad when the last morsel was savored. Also, the blood cake is sublime. Sadly, they were out of the sweetbreads by the time we arrived late in the evening. Next time, we will book an earlier seating.

We fell hopelessly and deeply in love with St. John when in London eight years ago. We were SO excited to go back this trip. So our expectations were running high, which I admit probably plays a lot into this review. It just did not live up to our memories. So disappointed.

This is Definitely a worthwhile experience. Yes offal is awesome but be wary of that English obsession with salt, otherwise excellent bone marrow and lamb’s fry.

The wine menu is a lot of fun, go weird it’s worth it.

I couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough. I went with my partner to celebrate his birthday and it was wonderful... it’s unique in that it feels trendy and smart but also really laid-back. (Plus lack of music and the setting meant it didn’t get ‘shouty’ even though the restaurant was full). Great mix of clientele. Food was *delcious* I recommend the fried skate cheeks and double-baked chocolate cake! Service was super friendly, attentive and impeccable. Will definitely come again. What more can I say? You won’t be disappointed!!

The service and food was exceptional. Our daughter has severe nut, egg, diary and sesame allergies yet she had a wide range options to select from. We would highly recommend it.

We had a reservation for 21:00 on a Friday night and we arrived early and were seated immediately. Service was prompt and professional. I had the bone marrow as an appetizer and my wife had the pork pate'. Both were excellent. The deserts we enjoyed were outstanding. The wine list is extensive and reasonable priced. We would return on our next trip to London. Overall the experience was very good and I would rate it at a 4.5.

The overall dinning experience was divine. My meaty mutton salad was delicious. Then our dexter pie (for two) hit the spot with flavour, quality and quantity, along with sides. Would gladly return.

The fennel and Berkswell was good for the vegetarian.

Was disappointed they ran out of bones..

The ambience was spartan but cozy. The drink selection was great. The much hyped bine marrow was good but a little disappointing I mist say and had it better elsewhere. The pigeon, venison heart and eel were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The lamb soup was excellent. The waiters were very attentive and respectful.

Excellent service, attentive but not intrusive. Bright open space, no music, ban on mobile phones, but all this not presented in a pretentious way. Excellent food, the pigeon had an excellent flavour without being excessively gamey. Veg done hi perfection. V pleased

We were quite surprised when the daily menu was posted and there weren't any pork dishes on it. We did realize going in that they do varied things with not common food parts, but we still expected, with a picture of a pig on the masthead of the restaurant, to have some pork choices.

We were dining at 7:30 and yet we got the last soup available. They also were out of our 1st dessert choice by the time we ordered.

It was a nice experience and our server was great, we were just a little disappointed at the menu.
