Fergus Henderson’s original home of “Nose to Tail Eating” opened in a former smokehouse around the corner from Smithfield Market in 1994.

Celebrating the finest of indigenous British produce and making the most of what is seasonally best whilst applying straight forward cooking techniques, St. John is now celebrated as one of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World and in 2009 was awarded its first Michelin Star.

Nose to tail eating means that, where appropriate, every part of the animal should be put to good use in the kitchen and so along with Roast Beef and Lemon Sole, diners will find Rolled Pig’s Spleen, Kidneys and Ox Heart, Liver and Chitterlings as well as the Roast Bone Marrow & Parsley Salad, something of a ‘signature’ dish.

Whilst often cited as not a restaurant to take a vegetarian too, the kitchen source and prepare dishes for vegetarians with the same amount of studiousness as they do the meat, fish and poultry and desserts.

British food, very very well done. Would highly recommend to everyone. Had the bone marrow - well executed plain simple bone marrow on toast with salt and parsley lemon salad. Venison liver and mash - best dish with liver succulent and well seared. For dessert I had bread pudding with butterscotch sauce - the sauce was not too sweet and just the right amount of burntness. 8.5/10

Went to St John expecting to be dazzled and wowed by the quality of there food, maybe it wasn’t too my taste or i’m not sophisticated enough for the establishment! Bone marrow is overhyped and lacks flavour, followed by the Arbroath smokie with the first few bites was lovely I must say except the saltiness became too much and overpowered me. Blood cake and fried eggs, mmm tasted more cinnamon/nutmeg/not sure exactly what spice is on it that needed to be added but it overpowered and too rich. Had some salad greens which were lovely and two glasses St. John rosé which were beautiful. Service was rushed, felt unwelcome and paid £70.80.
St John was supposed to be the highlight of my Trip to London and unfortunately left me with a sick feeling in my stomach.

You read the menu, see something that sounds good and you picture in your mind's eye what it might be like. So you order it and they bring a dish that is exactly what you had hoped for, only better. Every time.

Great local food, one of my favourite restaurants in London. The bone marrow is one of my favourite dishes.

The reason for the four stars on the food is because the mains I chose this time was a bit overpowered by the spices and tomatoe ... The chickpea, chorizo, snail dish. The other dishes were all super tasty though and I’ve never had any complaints.

So We will definitely be back though as the food is excellent .

Congratulations to the owner, he must be a master at networking. I honestly can't think of any other way this restaurant would ever possibly receive a Michelin star. Mediocre food and rude staff. Would not recommend.

As a first timer in UK, I heard great things about St. John's. In terms of our overall experience, the drink menu was cheap with unique atmosphere. The food wasn't anything spectacular, but unique in converting a untypical cut of meat in creating a gourmet meal. I regret to inform the service was "indifferent". The waiter service was simply satisfying routines and nothing out of ordinary. As a restaurant with St. John's stature, despite the need to create a laid back food experience, the service should equate to what the food represents.

Went based on a recommendation. Yes the idea is simple food done very well, but unfortunately the dishes were plain to the point of boring - not the same thing
I had bone marrow for a starter , pretty flavourless and with some supermarket toast plus a few leaves whilst my fellow diners was little better
His Duck that followed was excellent but drably presented whilst my Arbroath Smokie tasted of brine - i have had these in the NE before - this was a different animal altogether . I wont bother with rest , i was so underwhelmed i cant even remember .
Either this was an exceptionally poor showing or someone is definately taking the proverbial

Nice food but service wasn’t great. Wine wasn’t very cold and we had to ask four separate times for a cooler. It was really busy but we were sat right by where they were kept! Also, the string of lads lining up to take selfies with the roasted pig on display in the kitchen was a little tasteless and lowered the tone massively from what I was expecting. Desserts were amazing though!

My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner at St. John, but I think it didn't quite meet our expectations. Don't get me wrong, everything was delicious, but I think we both were expecting things w/ more of a "wow factor" in them. Nevertheless, we had a lovely evening, and the service was really excellent.

Food forward and brilliantly simple English cooking with a focus on ingredients and cooking technique. Perhaps a bit austere for those looking for fussed over food and “see and be seen” atmosphere. However, the quality and flavour of each dish is presented as is and unabashedly so. Do yourself a favor and order as many apps as you can possibly tolerate! They were so on point! Regarding the mains, be courageous and go for lesser known cuts and offal. You won’t be disappointed. Finally choose anything that has Middle White in the description! This has to be some of the finest pork I have ever had and do some research on the Middle Whilte and become more educated on this heritage breed of pork. Service was pleasant however we seemed to be more enthusiastic about being there then our server? Again, lovely and helpful, just not sharing in our joy of being in such a unique establishment. The “house” wines are a collaboration between the restaurant and the vineyard and should not be overlooked. All I can say is that this was a perfect way to wrap up our holiday abroad. Cheers!!!

Food was terrible lacking taste. So disappointed there was no pork on the menu. Vegetables were “stewed” beyond any recognition. They were apologetic and didn’t charge for the main courses. Cheap might, but that’s not the point. We wanted a great meal and were prepared to pay for it!

St. John has been on my foodie bucket list for years, so I decided to book a supper on a whim. I was not disappointed in the slightest. The most unassuming Michelin starred restaurant I've ever been to, the entire focus on the food. I had their signature bone marrow to start, which is life changing. It's like meat butter and when you ads the salt and the parsley salad to the incredible toasted sourdough, which is baked on site, it's a euphoric experience. We had the guinea fowl and trotted pie to share. Seriously the best pie I've ever eaten. Ever. To finish we had the eccles cake with Lancashire cheese. There's never been a better combo. The salty sharp cheese with the rich and sweet cake. Simply phenomenal. The wine list isn't bad either... Fergus and team. Thank you.

I was very excited to try St. John and to experience the nose to tail dining. Overall I would say that the appetizers were more interesting than the main courses - and if I were to go again I would stick to sharing more apps.

The service was excellent and the staff was very knowledgeable about the dishes.

Splendid. This has been on my must-go-to list for about fifteen years (pathetic of me really) and it didn't merely surpass my expectations. The tripe with bacon and turnips was exquisite, the lamb hearts a delight, etc. etc. etc. And the service was just perfect, not fussy at all, but very helpful.

St. John really blew me away. I had high expectations and they exceeded all of them. My husband and I ordered quite a lot and not one dish was anything but perfect. We had guinea fowl with root veggies, Welsh rarebit, pork cheek and dandelion, and the notorious bone marrow. Everything went well with their house red wine. The service was to the point, enjoyable, and you could tell everyone that worked at St. John was just as excited about the food as their guests. We will be back.
