Celebrating the finest of indigenous British produce and making the most of what is seasonally best whilst applying straight forward cooking techniques, St. John is now celebrated as one of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World and in 2009 was awarded its first Michelin Star.
Nose to tail eating means that, where appropriate, every part of the animal should be put to good use in the kitchen and so along with Roast Beef and Lemon Sole, diners will find Rolled Pig’s Spleen, Kidneys and Ox Heart, Liver and Chitterlings as well as the Roast Bone Marrow & Parsley Salad, something of a ‘signature’ dish.
Whilst often cited as not a restaurant to take a vegetarian too, the kitchen source and prepare dishes for vegetarians with the same amount of studiousness as they do the meat, fish and poultry and desserts.
Dinner: Monday - Saturday: 6:00PM - 11:00PM
Thankyou to our waitress for guiding us to sharing entrees - great suggestion !!!
Always great to eat here - good clean delicious perfectly cooked food. Simple uncomplicated menu, polite attentive staff.
Had a very good lunch here with friends. Service was great and it is clearly very popular. Loved the bone marrow and the terrine was similarly delicious. Thought the roast pork was a little underwhelming, possibly a little dry but the cabbage and gravy were knockout. Recommend the raspberry sorbet with vodka as dessert!
Just absolutely amazing! So tasty, excellent produce cooked brilliantly.
Legendary restaurant with a legendary chef. When late chef Anthony Bourdain says this is his favourite restaurant in the world, what can I add? A different lunch menu and a different dinner menu EVERY day! The only course that is always on there is the legendary bone marrow with parsley salad. I loved my lunch and will come again, as often as I can!
I love going to St Johns. I admire the good cooking of ingredients that are usually not handled well. It is also a pleasure to have british food at its best.
The service is amazing, the staff seem to have real interest in the food they are serving and are proud to be there. They are a terrific lot of people.
I am a faithful repeat attender and am never disappointed.
Absolutely phenomenal meal. Went after seeing the Bourdaine episod, ordered bone marrow, greens, lamb and an amazing American style session IPA (but from Essex); all affordable, all top notch.
Such a fantastic evening, a real experience as well a meal. We are both huge fans of nose to tail eating and this was everything we could have hoped for. Brilliant no nonscence dining with just excellent food. We were looked after very well by our fabulous server Lucile whose recommendations and help with the menu made our evening, especially her recommendation of the green salad with the game and trotter pie! As long as you are a fan of offal and are interested in this type of cooking, this is a real treat.
Always a pleasure to eat here. We had a long leisurely late lunch on a Friday after a show at the Barbican. Staff were super friendly even when we were the last people there and they were clearing up. Everything was delicious and we even caught a glimpse of Fergus!
Great Meal at St John. Very satisfyingly British restaurant without feeling at all old fashioned or uncreative - and good value - compared with some other well known British stalwart restaurants. Excellent ingredients cooked really well. Atmosphere feels authentic and 'foody' whilst refreshingly un-pretentious. Helps if you are a carnivore for sure! It is so difficult to score restaurants when the style and objective differs so greatly. This is clearly outstanding in it's field. But it is not Pollen St Social … but not fair to compare. Will go again for sure.
Great food. Unfortunately our waiter was quite unhelpful. Overall we had very nice dinner
St. John is an institution for meat lovers. We booked my partner's birthday dinner and weren't disappointed. Meat is delicious, with quirky cuts and bits wonderfully paired with veg. Staff was competent, explaining the menu to us, and service was spotless. Will definitely go back.
Fabulous meal with knowledgable, friendly and professional staff - great atmosphere.
As good as ever..!
Wonderful airy space, great beer and wine options, friendly staff, seasonal fresh whole animal food. So good. Will be back.
Our server offered to give us a parsley salad recipe but did not follow through...disappointing
Great place for friend gathering
Exactly what you except from
A “French style” bistro. Everything was spot on! Loved it!
The service was amazing, both at the bar and the dining room. The food was very lovely and everything we had was delicious. I would recommend this to anyone with adventurous tastes and open minds.
Nice ambience. Good dessert selection. Slow, not very attentive service. Main course came out cold and blunt.
The bone marrow on sour dough toast is the best. The service was great. Only drawback was my main plate was cold but still delicious.
Cant fault it - always a pleasure to eat here, fresh, unfussy, perfectly cooked food. Short but good menu. Great service.
One of the best restaurants in London and therefore the world. The impact and influence this restaurant has had on the culinary landscape is immeasurable.
Excellent as always
This place meets or exceeds its legendary reputation. Do not miss. Flawless execution, first rate everything.
There is nowhere like St John, Smithfield. Enjoy! We did.
Delicious! Great food and service
Wonderful food, only quibble, we had to wait a rather long time for the starters, although the room was relatively quiet. Would though fully reccomend the restaraunt.
Outstanding as always. Great staff and spot on food and drink! Roasted bone marrow followed by ox hearts and then Eccles cheese cake all accompanied with St John rouge for the chaps and sparkling for the ladies. Celebrating my birthday, some friends joined us for their first trip there and all shared my enthusiasm. Thank you St John and see you soon! Sam Laycock
St john is one of the great meals of your lifetime. go.
I had the kohlrabi to start which was lovely and fresh while my partner had the famed bone marrow. Middle white pork for main which was perfectly cooked. Overall delicious food and great, fuss free service and don’t forget to order the freshly baked madeleines!
Outstanding overall experience! What a wonderful way to taste true English food.
Made a late reservation at last minute and was regardless treated incredibly well. Fourth time there and never short of a great experience. Excellence without pretense.
Excellent choice of food and wine. The dessert menu is always a surprise in terms of freshness, appearance and taste. Don't forget to pick up a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine from the takeaway menu on the way out.
El lugar es espectacular. La comida original y riquísima. Bien atendidos y el precio perfecto. Público mayormente local lo cual lo hizo mucho más atractivo!
Favourite restaurant always.
Meeting a friend I haven’t seen for 20 months.
We had exceedingly high expectations and St John did not disappoint. The food was absolutely sublime — outstanding flavour, impactful, memorable, every mouthful was simple utter deliciousness — food cooked with flair and precision but with no pretension. All the dishes we had were incredible — the terrine and cornichons, bone marrow and parsley salad, kohlrabi and chervil salad, lamb sweetbreads with peas and bacon, guinea fowl with carrot and trotter, Eccles cake and Lancashire cheese. The seasoning was on point — things like using capers as a seasoning on the parsley salad and kohlrabi was delightful. We got there early so we could buy some doughnuts to take home, and the custard doughnut in particular was an amazing bouncy pillow of vanilla loveliness.
It feels like there’s no point in eating anywhere else now! The perfect lunch.
Always terrific to lunch at St.John, everything about it is near as perfect - delectable food, fantastic service in the loveliest of rooms. Yes, I’m a fan, I can’t say more.
