Fergus Henderson’s original home of “Nose to Tail Eating” opened in a former smokehouse around the corner from Smithfield Market in 1994.

Celebrating the finest of indigenous British produce and making the most of what is seasonally best whilst applying straight forward cooking techniques, St. John is now celebrated as one of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World and in 2009 was awarded its first Michelin Star.

Nose to tail eating means that, where appropriate, every part of the animal should be put to good use in the kitchen and so along with Roast Beef and Lemon Sole, diners will find Rolled Pig’s Spleen, Kidneys and Ox Heart, Liver and Chitterlings as well as the Roast Bone Marrow & Parsley Salad, something of a ‘signature’ dish.

Whilst often cited as not a restaurant to take a vegetarian too, the kitchen source and prepare dishes for vegetarians with the same amount of studiousness as they do the meat, fish and poultry and desserts.

Although our waitress forgot our starter and my partner prefers her mallard a little less rare but otherwise a great restaurant. The offal cuts and game on the menu are the absolute best I've had.

Honest I expected the food to be better. The oatmeal crusted mackerel was very heavy, all you could taste was the oatmeal. The mains were lukewarm. It’s a cool place and our server was attentive.

We wanted a very special meal for a very special occasion, and this was everything we could have wanted. Food and service were outstanding.

Started off with a below average dirty Martini. The food was good but on today’s standards that are being set elsewhere it was only good. The experience just lacked an experience, nothing gimicky just something to think wow that the best/first whatever I can’t wait to find out more about that or have it again. Anyway it is a tick in the box and onward and upwards. Overall a solid beige.......

Perhaps the greatest restaurant, certainly our favorite on both sides of the Atlantic

Great food and exceptional service. By mistake we (4 persons) arrived 2 hours before reservation on a busy service night. We were seated immediately in what appeared to be a full Restuarant.

Goed eten in een wat kale ambiance. Bijzondere gerechten, alles tussen kop en staart (en daartussenin). We durfden de niertjes niet aan, maar de varkenswang was heerlijk!

I was disappointed with the experience. The duck was under cooked and had to be taken back , I've had better fish and chips for half the price, and the fish special was mostly bone and overcooked.

Food was good but attention to detail poor. Big slab of bread and butter plonked on table but no side plates. Wine glasses poor and filled almost to brim by waiting staff. No explanation of menu. We had to ask about almost everything as no details on menu. Wait staff difficult to catch the attention of.

We arrived late (after 10 pm) so many of the menu items were no longer available. We did enjoy the marrow and parsley salad, and the mallard was outstanding!

My server was nice and attentive. He recommended a dish that I ordered and very much enjoyed. I ordered a treacle tart for dessert and it was amazing.

Amazing everything, such a cool place, based around the food but service, atmosphere and even beer selection (for a wine place) were top

My meal was relatively simple at face value: onglet steak , a veg dish on the side but this was the tastiest, beefiest bit of beef I've had in ages - so memorable! My dining companions had equally delicious meals. Service was so helpful and our questions all followed up on. Energetic and fun atmosphere, comfortable ambiance.

It was I guess my 6th time in St John’s, and never had a bad experience. No matter what was the occasion, the food had always been outstanding, and the variety offers never gets you bored or hesitant to visit once again. I just love the atmosphere and ambience. Arguably my favourite destination in London, and for sure the best value for such a high quality food. Outstanding.

Honestly this was underwhelming. The food ranged from just OK to bad, and the highlight was the large mouse running across the dining room floor. Not recommended.

Wow. Finally made it there, and definitely worth. I was in London for work, and had a free evening to check the place out. Went by myself. Great food, great service, no pretense. Bone marrow lived up to the hype (just don’t where a white shirt if you plan to try it!), and the smoked eel main was great. Very balanced dishes. Nice cocktails as well. I was attempted to order two apps but restrained myself. Next trip, perhaps. Servers are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Sat next to a friendly table of regulars celebrating a bday; they invited me over at the end of my meal to chat and have a drink. Very warm place.

Great food. The roasted marrow which almost everyone has is very good, but you really can't have it that often. Too decadent. The 'violent offal' special was great too.

Very good if you like trying new things. Although vegetarian options are available, that isn't really the point of the restaurant. Go for the off-beat - the only slightly disappointing dish was the pork shoulder, simply because we've had it before (it was still very tasty though)! Think of it as an adventure.
