One of the best Hall & Woodhouse chain. Roast beef and lamb cooked well and vegetables properly cooked. Sunday lunch so very busy but staff coping well.
A late change to numbers plus a pram was managed on arrival allocated table access restricted not an issue table change within minutes of arrival great service all round , food hot and no long wait between courses , very good
I have eaten here on at least 6 other occasions.. So booked the table with expectation of a good meal.. I was meeting a future inlaw for first time... Such a shame with 2 of the meals the beef was like rubber we could not cut the meat and no hope of chewing it ... I was embarrassed for my guests... The experience took the edge off the day... Sorry guys its a thumbs down for me..
i have not been to peters finger for a long time, but today 25th feb we went for dinner and we were quite surprised, lot of improvements and is nicely decorated the food we had was very good cooked well and tasted good was slso served quite quickly, we used our dinning card which i understand wiill not be accepted in the near future which is a pity, cost at this pub is quite good, all in all nice food served quickly and with a smile, not every where can you get this
It was my wife birthday. Booked on line easy to do no fuss the service was excellent as was the food some food was out of stock which was a starter my wife chose, but choice was good so she was happy to reorder defiantly would book again
Menu limited because of a delivery failure. Went there because the grasshopper wasn't accepting bookings. Hall and Woodhouse need to provide more support to their outlets.
Very efficient and friendly staff. Good menu choice. Food tasty and in ample quantity. A very enjoyable dining experience.
Lovely ambiance, great food, excellent service. Good range of real ales.
Great food and lovely setting. Nice option of smaller portions which were still ample for our 2 older guests.
Food could have been hotter.
Overall though another lovely Sunday lunch and great service.
Meat was chewy and difficult to cut. Not a good selection of veg, (1 small carrot and large portion of greens). Meal was tepid not hot.
Arrived 1215pm. Not too busy. 2 staff, not present in the main restaurant the majority of time. Had to remind about drinks already ordered. Served main meal. Plates cleared and just left to it. No offer of sweet menu or coffee. The variety of choices on the menu had been reduced. The general atmosphere was slack. I paid thechap on the till. Lacked inter personal skills.
Generally a disappointment on this day, as over the last few years we have found an overall well run and quality restaurant.
Very good meal and good service the staff were very helpful and attentive we will come back again
Lovely evening with family. Staff were friendly and attentive and the food great. Will definately visit again. Thanks
Excellent service, food was lovely, great service and decorated our table for my sons birthday. Thanks to Jess for being so attentive.
We dine here regularly and have always had a good meal, friendly service and its is good value.
Arrived to catch up with family for a birthday. Given table went to order food to be told no food dishwasher had broken. Don’t know when it broke but no notice. Had to find another restaurant in the Poole area as we had a toddler with us and she was hungry. Very disappointed. Can’t rate it but could only submit if put in 1 star
Limited menu but very tastey. Very helpful, pleasant staff
We have eaten here many times in the past when staying at nearby campsite and this is the second year we have visited for Xmas Dinner as in the past all has been OK. However this year we were disappointed, the starter and dessert were fine but the turkey dinner was lukewarm, the sausage looked uncooked and far too much on the plate. The meal was very dry and we asked for more gravy which was glutenous and thick. We would not book for Christmas Dinner with friends at this venue again but may use for regular menu outside of Christmas.
Christmas menu, god choice. Food served promptly, smiling waitress. Good value!
pleasant pub for a Sunday lunch with family. a reasonable selection of vegetarian options. dropped the ball on service a little when they could not find spoons for deserts. I enjoyed the nut roast. the only negative comment was from my father who left some of his beef as "it wasn't the best"
Very good. Amy who served us was outstanding. A breath of fresh air service wise
Great food, great service but they didn’t have a lot of the options on the menu available so that was a bit disappointing. The lamb was amazing and the mini desserts were really pretty and a great idea
We had a fantastic meal the two ladies were fantastic and the food was very tasty ,the ambiance in the restaurant was fantastic as well will be returning
Having visited previously for dinner I booked again for Sunday lunch. I am a coeliac and required a gluten free option and one of my guests is a vegetarian. The restaurant was able to provide the relevant information on all its meals which made for a very relaxed and enjoyable visit. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends adding that it would be wise to reserve a table in advance.
Amazing, lovely staff. Perfect evening out
They kindly provided a BIRTHDAY cake with candles. The food was delicious
We had booked online and were taken to table in the bar area when we arrived. We were not told that we had to order from the bar, so we ended up waiting over 1/2 hour before our order got taken. Upon complaining to a waitress, she did say that she would make sure it didnt happen again.
Unfortunately when the meals arrived, the plates were just luke warm.
Otherwise a thoroughly pleasant evening
Great place, glad we booked as we wouldn't have got in if we just turned up.
Excellent service, pleasant staff and good food. An ideal day of the week for quick and efficient service
We visited for Sunday lunch. We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady and showed to our reserved seats. WE were not rushed, the pub whilst busy was not noisy or overcrowded. The food was served timely and was found to be plentiful and of good quality. Very please. Will definitely visit again when next in the area
A little disappointed that several items on the menu were not available. However, the meals that we chose were all delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good value for money too. We hope to visit again soon.
We were warned that waiter staff were being trained which was fine and he did well but service was quite slow although the restaurant was not busy. Our meals (three of us) were good except the bean burger was only warm. Would have sent this back but knew there would be a long wait to receive a hot one and we all wanted to eat together. The food was what we expect from this type of restaurant and we would return.
I had a really bad experience. I dined on the 19th November. Roasts had run out. Wrong drinks brought. Fish menu changed, limited choices. Staff could be heard complaining. No teaspoons to be given with coffee, customers were blamed for taking them. Nobody came to take our sweet menu. Place empty. No ambiance.
I have been coming to St Peter’s Finger for 15 years and never had such a bad experience as I had on Sunday. Would not recommend to friends and will not come back unless I am assured of big improvements. The kitchen staff were noisy and it was very apparent that neither they or the waiter enjoyed their job
A party of six of us at 2pm, we all opted for the Sunday roast, sadly they’d already run out of the beef but they did advise us before we ordered so we all went for the chicken, the waitress then came back to say the kitchen had got their figures wrong so there was no roasts left at all not even the pork!! So 5 of us chose the beef pie but the 6th person in our party didn’t get asked so she also ended up with the pie, thankfully she was happy to go with that! At no time were we asked if we wanted more drinks, we had to try & catch the waiter’s eye to call him over, out of the four drinks ordered only three arrived so we had to go & tell the waiter!! Later when our plates were taken they asked if we’d like to see the chalk board dessert menu which we did but again they never returned to ask what we wanted or if we wanted coffees or more drinks?! So certainly a lot of lost business on their part. Then when the bill came the reduction they’d promised due to the lack of roasts had not been taken off so we again had to flag the waiter down to have it amended. Sadly two of our party were visiting whilst staying in Poole plus another two hadn’t been there for years but on my recommendation that’s where we chose but they will certainly not be going back.
Whilst we understand it was busy but the kitchen must have an idea of how many covers as a lot of people book?! But it was the lack of service that really spoilt it.
This is an excellent venue. The food is excellent and the staff could not be more friendly and helpful. One of the very best places we have eaten
Despite informing by email and verbally of my strict diet I was given gravy containing gluten and beef when it should have been a black current sauce. We had to wait an hour for our meal and the waitress never bothered to come back to re fresh our drinks until going to the bar. My duck was like a piece of old leather and was the worst most unappetising and expensive meal I've ever had.The pie and steak eaten by my friends were acceptable. The attitude of the waitress was flippant when paying the bill . We were asked if we wanted pudding but never came back. They were understaffed for the amount of covers.
We have visited St Peter's finger several times this year and apart from this recent visit we have been exceptionally pleased with our meals. When we arrived we were informed that quite a few of the dishes were not available as the menu was changing the next day. Our eating companions were both vegetarians who will eat some fish and usually do opt for a fish option when eating out. Apart from fish and chips option all other fish dishes were off the menu leaving them with not much choice. I actually chose the fish and chips, but the fish was really greasy and as it had been placed on top of the chips, made them greasy as well. Why when I rang up to book the table as I not informed that the menu was going to every restricted. Afraid we would have been put off from going I dare say. My companion had the cheese tart with salad, but the salad was floating a a very heavy olive oil sauce. We actually queried if there was a different chef on that night. We were told not. We will now have to think long and hard before we consider going there again and risk another such experience. The staff were very attentive as usual.
We really enjoyed our meal. The food was good and the staff brought me a dessert with the words happy birthday on it and a candle which was a lovely touch. One of the party was in a wheelchair and staff were happy to move chairs for him. Access for a wheelchair user was good. Service was speedy but we did not feel rushed and the staff were friendly and polite. We would certainly come again.
Unfortunately one meal was cold, and two of the meals was supposed to have been smaller ones but when the bill came we was charged the bigger price. Overall it was ok, the range of the menu was not as good as the older Hall & Woodhouse menu a "bit of the normal pub menu" The staff was polite and helpful and the decor of the pub was in keeping. Overall I would go there again just needed a few tweaks
Pleasantly surprised with our experience. Pub had been recommended by nearby campsite and we'd been offered free wine with 2 main meals. Service from the minute we walked in the door was impeccable, our young children were given activities to keep them entertained. When ordering the children's meals the waitress made sure to check with the kids what they might like to exclude from their mess (e.g lettuce etc!) the food was delivered quickly and was delicious, we just wish we'd had more time to stay for puddings but kids were a bit too tired!
A lovely night but very disappointed with the slow cooker pork belly. 90% of the pork was far (not even crispy crackling). For the amount of actual meat that was served didn't warrant £13.
