We thoroughly enjoyed our final visit to this lively, fun restaurant, with excellent food and wine, and look forward to sampling the new restaurant in Islington after the forthcoming move. Hope Stef makes a very good recovery from his recent health issues.
This is a little gem.
Flavoursome food, reasonably priced, attentive and friendly but not overly-intrusive service staff.
Well worth a visit pre-show at the Palladium.
Highly recommended. Will return to sample more of the delicious menu when we are next in town.
I was recommended the restaurant by a good friend but it didn't reach my expectations. The starter, calamari was overcooked and the main fillet of pork was very salty. The service was quick but the waiter was probably bored as he was singing and chatting with the rest of the staff. I don't know if the problem was that the restaurant was almost empty at that time or that we sat very close to the kitchen. I didn't find the overall value very attractive so I don't think I'll recommend it or go back.
Good food but poor service - we were left for nearly 20 min waiting at the door even after acknowledging us and our booking. please get this right for other customers.
Please don't miss this little gem of a restaurant just in Soho. The food is delicious, the waiters are handsome and friendly and the ambiance is fun and inviting. Stefano (the owner) is an amazing man with incredible team to make your dining experience the best ever.
I met a friend at Stef's to catch up. It's not a traditional looking Italian restaurant but that was a small and actually inconsequential issue. From the moment we entered we felt welcomed and comfortable. Staff were attentive and the food was excellent. I even came home with a recipe for pasta sauce to try - not from the menu but given to me by the enthusiastic owner after he asked if we liked avocados - it was excellent! Definitely recommend.
Great value for Money. We had the 3 course meal with ½bottle of house wine.
2 diners, starter came very fast. A bit of a wait for the main course, but the place was also fully booked. Main course was worth the wait: the Linguine Panna E Salmone was soooo good! Best I've had for a long time.
Even though the place was busy the waiters were very friendly and did their bit to keep the service level up.
Our waiter seemed in a big rush. The food was good though.
Our waiter was incredibly unhelpful and quite frankly, a bit rude. He walked away from our table twice while we were ordering drinks and did not return until one of us got his attention again. When he brought our drinks over, he effectively threw our bottle of wine on the table and did not even open it. It took 15 minutes to get his attention to point this out to him. He did not once check whether we were happy with our food. Plus, my absolutely pet hate, he started clearing plates before we'd all finished, even attempting to take a plate while one of us was still eating.
Overall, the food was good but the service was dreadful.
We picked Stef's in the hope of finding somewhere pleasant and reasonably priced to eat before a visit to the London Palladium. We not disappointed. Delightful people too.
Decent enough deals, but everything came with an astonishing amount of sun dried tomatoes. Seems to be aimed at Oxford Street tourists rather than foodies. Service was laughably poor - slow, lacking knowledge and common sense - John Cleese would have found it beyond parody. What should have been a 1 hour lunch took 2 painful hours and I suspect our waiter is still staring at a spoon wondering where it should go, even now.
The waiter was more concerned about serving us quickly. As soon as one course was over the next course was in front of us. We had a two course and drink offer and when we said two people didn't drink and ordered soft drinks instead, they were charged for the soft drinks.
I would struggle to say which is better - the food or the service. The staff is very attentive, fun and engaging. The pasta dishes, salads, bread and wine(!) were all great! Highly recommend this for a great meal, good value and wonderful dining experience.
Food was great as was service. Fantastic value for money .
Great value for set menu and the food was fantastic. Particularly enjoyed the calamari.
Everything was perfect until the waiter aggressively asked us where his service charge was and started complaining to his colleagues in a different language.
If he had politely waited he would have seen we were going to place the service charge in cash as soon as we had made the card payment.
The manager however did apologise and offered some treats but our mood was already spoilt by then.
Good food, bad service.
Great place! The food was very tasty and reasonably priced.
The staff were very attentive and polite.
Another excellent dinner for us visiting Scots at our favourite London Italian restaurant!
I have been to Stef's a few times in the past and had a really good experience but this time not so much. We booked in advance and then seemed surprised to see us. Took us to a table that was dirty and not set so we can had to wait for cutlery etc. There were plenty of other tables that were set. We just generally had the feeling that we weren't especially wanted, We went with the set menu, it was okay. Again we had to ask for the glass of Prosecco and for the menu. The starters were not great, calamari over cooked, my mussels had grit in them. The main of pasta was better, we opted to not bother with dessert. The wine was nice and overall the meal was good value but I wouldn't go back now. There are plenty of restaurants in London that offer best quality and service that makes you feel like they actually want you there.
Great service and very good food. Excellent value. Recommended, would definitely return.
Chose this place because it was one of the few to have a table for five available on Friday night, and now I know why. The waiter had to come back three times to get our order straight. My carbonara was too salty to finish. Of my friends, one really liked his dish, but everyone else found theirs to be just okay. Not terrible, but will not be returning.
Ordinary food. High price. Poor service. We cancelled after dinner coffees because nobody seemed to care about that.
Visited before a show. 9 of us enjoyed a fab meal, great quality and excellent service. We had also incorrectly booked the number of people dinning, but they quickly resolved with no fussy.
I would absolutely recommend to friends and family.
Thank you for a lovely meal!
What more can you ask for? Food was prompt and tasted great, service was outstanding. Wouldn't hesitate to go again in a group or for a date.
I made a booking for 4 people for lunch through Open Table on Bank Holiday Monday. I received a booking and shared the details with my friends who arrived first on the day and were stunned to discover that the restaurant was shut! Several other people showed up with bookings, but there was no staff and the restaurant appeared to be closed for the day. Very disappointing!
This is just a really lovely restaurant. Service was so personal and the food was very good ad good value. Will definitely go back
I asked when I made the booking by email if they could put a candle in the dessert for my wife as it was her birthday. This was ignored so it was a bit disappointing. Steffs had been recommended to us by some friends. We had seabass that was overcooked but still okay but not outstanding. It was a pretheatre meal.
Food was average.
One waiter (seemed like the manager) was great, very friendly. The other waiter who showed us to the table) was just rude - completely uninterested, and just made us feel quite awkward.
I read a few reviews that led me to believe the restaurant was very good, yet read a few mentioning sub-par wait-staff. I decided to try it out anyway. The gent who sat me seemed less than interested in having a guest for dinner, and said nothing as we went to the table and plopped down menus. His service was the bare minimum, to the point of a few other young servers picking up the slack and bringing water, etc.. as he talked with other diners, yet did nothing to get control of an out-of-control Bachelorette party who were obnoxiously loud and demanding. I was told the meal included wine - Sangiovese. In fact, what arrived at the table was Cabernet, with no comment. I clarified, and it turns out the main waiter had misspoken. For someone who appeared to be so unimpressed and aloof, I would have expected him to at least get wine right, when it was part of the set menu. The food arrived, and was very average. Nothing especially good or Italian about it - a pedestrian meal at best. Given the attitude of the servers, and their apparent indifference to their "clients", I would never return, and in fact walked past them many times to go to a neighboring restaurant, and other local Italian places.
I'd booked Stef's for a friend's surprise birthday meal. Although on the outset it doesn't look that impressive, the food was so delicious. The waiters even sung my friend Happy Birthday when the cake came out. The cheeky staff are a definite bonus.
I chose this restaurant on a whim before travelling to London with my friends. The food was exceptional, even my two pickiest friends found something they liked. The waiters were friendly, engaging in small talk and all round pleasant. Although a little pricey definitely good value for money, pay more, receive better service! 5 stars :)
As part of our trip to London to mark our wedding anniversary, I booked lunch for my wife and I at Stef's Italian through Open Table. The restaurant is located near Oxford Street and is very handy after a morning or afternoon of shopping. The restaurant has a nice, warm ambiance and prides itself als your local Italian. Well, the cuisine makes you feel like you were in Italy. The portions are good. I had that day's special: tagliatella with meat balls, which was very good. My wife enjoyed her meal as well. The wine to accompany the lunch was fine.
Was there a downside? Well, a bit: the service. With our reservation we specifically mentioned that this lunch was a specail occassion and we requested a nice table. .Eventhough my wife and I got a formal welcome and were served correctly by the waiter, no effort was made to make this lunch special for us. Our waiter wasn't aware of our reservation and upon presenting the reservation form, he only glanced at it, not noting the special requests, and showed us to a table somewhere in the middle of the restaurant. At the time of our arrival the restaurant was not filled to the brim, so there was sufficient oportunity and time for the waiter to pay some attention or care to us. Apparently, the famous (?) musician sitting opposite us was far more interesting to the staff. Or the two business gentlemen who came in and who were apparantely regulars, given the kind of warm reception they received. (Even the owner stopped by at their table. for an extensive chat). Perhaps we were not "local" enough to get the same treatment? Or perhaps this was just a day off. I sincerely hope for the latter, as the good Italian food is worth of a return visit.
The ambience was nice, we came early for dinner and it was quiet, building up through the course of our meal. The waiters were really nice and accommodating, as it got busier they could have done with extra help. The starters were really good and the main courses were great, the desserts however were a bit of a let down they were lacking in flavor. The portions are generous. Both my partner and I were full with 2 courses, but as all was so good we decided to indulge. I will definetely be back when I'm in the area, but would stick started and main.
For a starter I had salmon that came with a huge pile of rocket. The salmon was tasty but it was just salmon, and rocket.
For the main I ordered steak which also came with a pile of, yep, rocket, which I had had enough of by then. The steak was ok but for the price it wasn't the best quality. The steak was accompanied by a few (plain and boring) roast potato's and that was it. I didn't feel I was at an Italian dish and I didn't even bother getting desert.
To sum it up its an ok restaurant which is quite pricey due to its location!
If you are looking for a traditional italian restaurant with smal tables with red and white checkered tablecloths, candles, good ambiance, friendly service, good food and wine - go somewhere else!
This joint was modern in the 80's with mirrors an all walls (it is irritating to see yourself eating in a mirror), sofas along the wall, not special good food, warm wine and pour selcetion. We made a decion to come her beacuse of all good reviews on Trip Adviser. This is not a place to book a Friday dinner with your loved one.
We had a lovely evening at Stef's. There was a lot of choice. Being able to have the starters as a main course and the pasta as a starter was a nice touch. The food was good and both food and wine were reasonably priced particularly for the location. It was buzzing and quite noisy later in the evening so at that time probably not suitable for a quite meal, but it was fine for us. The waiting staff are very attentive and friendly too.
Great food, had a nice chat with the manager too, good staff, loved it
We reserved a pre theatre meal but had time only for one plate and a glass of wines worked out very expensive.
It was too noisy for me to want to go again.
Great food and service. I have been a number of times and it's always great
I must have walked past this restaurant a hundred times without realising what a gem it is
Good food , good value and good service
