When we serve a steak, it’s not just about the pleasure of eating, but the culmination of the perfect Yorkshire process; the welfare of the animal, the care of the farmer, the diligence of the preparation, and, of course, the skill of the chef.
We believe passionately in animal welfare and full traceability, so we source all our produce locally – from farmers we know personally. Our Wagyu Beef is always hand selected, aged for up to 28 days, precision trimmed and cooked with care over our Josper Grill.
Our kitchen team is led by head chef, Jonathan Davies. Jonathan is trained to a Michelin star standard and has worked in some of Europe’s finest restaurants.
Gorgeous food, very filling and excellent value, we had the 3 course lunch for £24. Will definitely return, great service and did not feel like we were being rushed to leave unlike in some other restaurants.
Absolutely amazing food and service. Will definitely be back regular!
Food almost perfect -- if I'm being picky the fish skin was a little soggy in the middle and the pistachio creme brulee came with vanilla ice cream and not the usual brandy ice cream (which is a taste sensation). Another lovely meal. Service impeccable.
A very varied menu, The quality of the food was excellent. Definitely fresh and well presented. The service was just right, attentive but not overbearing.
We had a wonderful meal at Stockdales over the weekend. The staff were friendly and knowledgable of the menus. Chateaubriand was outstanding, cooked to perfection. We will definitely be coming back!
Amazing steak as always.
Cooked to perfection.
Service was very impressive.
Wine was superb and was able to try 3 before deciding.
Starter (scallops) was good but not as impressive as the main. The dessert was ok but I was expecting the same as I’d had the previous week and it wasn’t nearly as good. (The selection of mini desserts)
Still my favourite restaurant!
Excellent food and the surprise deserts for our anniversary
Fantastic staff, great service, superb food and a really lovely gesture!! Thank you!!!
Good service from knowledgeable staff.
Couple of wines unavailable, but recommended replacements more than suitable.
Loved the Chateaubriand.
Renowned for its steaks, this was my first time at Stockdales and the main course food proved excellent. Superbly cooked good quality steaks and fabulous dripping chips. Starters were beautifully served, with well balanced sauces and accompaniments. Nice quality bread board was free. Great care clearly goes into the selection of ingredients and preparation of their dishes. Only food niggles were the crab starter lost a lot of its taste as it was served so chilled, and the blue cheese sauce for my steak was awful - looked like thick gravy and tasted like gravy with some cheese in! Our server was lovely about it when I told her and she replaced with a different sauce without fuss.
The decor is dully sparse rather than cool minimal, and the tables and chairs look past their best which is odd given the quality and price of the food. Still worth it though for the excellent dishes.
Top quality Sunday lunch.
Beautiful food with excellent service. Will definitely return.
Our table was booked for 9pm, we ordered and the starters came and then the waiter kept coming back to see if we had finished. We were talking and eating so not rushing but not taking ages either.
When we did finish, he took them and brought the mains immediately afterwards, they were obviously ready a while as not red hot.
The deserts were the same!
We ordered 3 gin and tonics but the whole night was so rushed we didn't even finish them!!!!
Disappointed to be so rushed as this has previously been a favourite of ours.
Lovely looking restaurant. Great service and reasonably priced especially the wine. The only negative was my fillet seemed to have the texture of a sirloin. It didnt "melt in the mouth" texture like a fillet normal has. It was quite bland.
Fantastic food; cod cheeks were amazing
This is the second time we’ve visited the service as last time was exceptional. The food was to die for steaks perfect I had the pork belly this time and wasn’t disappointed.
Wouldn’t hesitate to come back again and again.
Lovely ambiance and superb service, we had one slight hiccup with our main but this was handled brilliantly.
Excellent evening. We sat downstairs for the first time and the atmosphere was very good. Food and service excellent.
Beautiful wagyu fillet. Sirloin could have done with having the fat rendered. However, absolutely gorgeous food and superb cocktails
Lovely food and great cocktails. Great service. Highly recommend.
Amazing thank you for a lovely evening, everything from start to finish was perfect
We had the most amazing meal at Stockdales for our wedding anniversary. The staff were really friendly and were never far away if you needed anything. The food was delicious and very good value, best mussels I have ever eaten! Will definitely return.
Stockdales was faultless! From the moment we arrived we were treated to the best service, food & drink. We were recommended the place & it didn’t disappoint. We were treated to a Prosecco on arrival as we were celebrating & the waiters were so attentive. The food was melt in the mouth - would especially recommend the muscles and pork belly.
Very nice steak. Sides excellent. Experience not perfect but better than average.
Amarone red wine not brilliant for the money. I have have no problem spending £70+ on a bottle of wine, but it has to be good and it was well below par. Service needs improving, waitresses very nice but need more training. Not noticed a difference food wise since new chef starting which some say they have. Food was very good as usual. Will return.
Really wonderful place. We arrived quite early for dinner so the restaurant and bar were both very quiet but that meant we got a lovely personal service from the staff who took us through most of the menu items. We had some drinks in the bar area first and then went through to a corner booth for dinner. The food was just incredible, really delicious steak and all the sides also sublime. Sticky toffee pudding certainly up there with the best I've ever had. 10/10 would recommend.
Great retirement lunch for four.
Excellent surroundings, service and quality of food. I feel the price of wine is steep. £25 for house wine.
We visited because we were given a gift voucher. We went on a Sunday , 2 of us with our 4 year old son. The place was lovely. Looked upmarket but not so that I felt uncomfortable with my son. There was a fixed menu for Sunday lunch and kids menu with a good choice. The presentation of the food was good but it just lacked the wow factor unfortunately. The food was average. The staff were brilliant though. I don’t think the food is worthy of the high end prices unfortunately.
Attractive restaurant , great service but very disappointing steak.
The bread that they bring to the table is beautiful.
We felt that we needed to try the expensive Wagyu beef so opted for a ribeye and a fillet.
The ribeye was very fatty and a lot was left on the plate at the end. The fillet was cooked well but had a taste of lighter fuel that spoiled it. This was obviously as a result of the method of cooking in their charcoal oven but I really didn't like it and it ruined my experience of what was meant to be an expensive treat.
We complained about the fatty ribeye and were offered free desserts. We only wanted one so when asked we then received a bill reduction.
Absolutely amazing from start to finish. Great service very attentive and quick to solve any minor issue and food always amazing. Looking forward to our next visit.
My dad who was visiting from Sweden wanted to treat us to a Easter Sunday meal and we chose Stockdales. We were so happy with our choice! Everything from the cocktails to the puddings were perfect. My dad is usually quite difficult to please but he rated it the best meal he had ever had in the UK :) Can't wait to go back.
We love stockdales and go whenever we can. The Sunday dinner is so tasty and great value for money. We have just taken my grandma for her 80th birthday and she loved it. Highly recommend the mixed grill and truffle hollandaise sauce. Definitely worth the visit.
Fabulous visit for a mixed group of friends for a birthday lunch. I can't really fault it, really lovely restaurant for lunch. Thanks!
Easter Saturday so it was very quiet, a rowdy bunch of obviously drunk men put an edge on the evening with their bad language, staff did nothing really to quieten them down. Food was good as usual, but perhaps the wrong choice for me with the mixed grill, very greasy and overpriced for the small pieces of meat.
This is the second time we have visited Stockdales and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent; all the staff were friendly and efficient and the atmosphere is relaxed. There was a good variety of options on the menu. The food was delicious with just the right amount of waiting time between courses. Good range of wine suited to any budget.
Service was relatively slow given the restaurant was t busy. First course was fantastic: the terrine and rhubarb well executed as were the cod cheeks. My partner’s sea trout though was swimming in oil and the Wagyu ribeye both over cooked and not as buttery as I expected. Espresso martinis are among the best I’ve had. All in all, slightly disappointed as we have had excellent meals at Stockdales in the last. Oh yes - the cheeseboard is not to be missed.
Our meal was very nice however, the scallops were only just warm. We expected them to be hot. Staff was attentive but one of the staff members spilled a glass full of prosecco on one of the guests and unfortunately the response from them wasn't what we expected. We were not offered much of apology which is disappointing. However, overall experience was pleasant.
A really good meal at Stockdales. Had 8 oz rump and chips and egg. They did fried onions even though it wasn't on the menu. The staff were very helpful and the food was delicious. Will definitely dine here on my next visit to Leeds
Only disappointment was the restaurant not taking American Express payment which potentially could have caused embarrassment in front of our guests. Had I known this at the time of booking I would have gone elsewhere.
Great value for Sunday lunch 3 courses. The roast beef was the best I have ever tasted.
Yes I had never been before and my dining group want to go again
