Sunday 12 - 9pm
Stokey bears doesn't exist anymore. We were really excited to go and arrived at a Sports Bar to be told that it had closed down. The food there was ok but not what we were after. Stokey bears should remove this from Open Table and also from their website to avoid more disappointed customers.
It has shut down, even though Open Table still let you book a table! We turned up to a new restaurant with no booking!
It is CLOSED
The food was good, really nice burgers and sides. We ordered a grizzly bear and an angry bear along with the mac and cheese balls and some fries. Portions were a nice size and enough for two! However, service could be better. They focused on getting deliveries out whilst there were a number of tables waiting for food to arrive. Overall it was a pricey meal for what we had, £40 plus 12.5% service charge. Would possibly return but they need to sort out their staffing and prioritise looking after the tables!
Went to the Stokey Bear for dinner on a Saturday evening. The menu does not provide a lot of choice and the prices were probably a little too much for what we were having. Was inconvenienced by not having salt or pepper on the tables. Also I had to go up and ask at the bar for cutlery to eat my meal? A shame as I’d heard such good reviews.
Fabulous burgers and fries, really well made cocktails, party music and a good selection of beers. As this is a burger and beer place, it would be good if the wait-staff knew more about the beer they are serving, maybe a bit of training on the drinks. Apart from that, great experience!
Having seen lots of Stokey Bear burger photos online, I thought this is a must try venue for a real foodie. The restaurant is unassuming from the outside, and the inside is quite dark with laminated (sticky) menus. It does put doubt in your mind, as you are seated on wooden benches and stools with a large kitchen roll on each table.
Nevertheless, we were determined to try their burgers, and ordered a "Triple Threat" £17 and a "Greedy Bear" £14 burger with deep fried chicken wings £6.50 as a side. The chicken wings were covered in a very strange sauce, which totally ruined them making them inedible. It was a slightly salty yet sour sauce - not what we expected at all when it said deep fried (others are BBQ wings, which you'd expect to receive covered in sauce). The burgers were totally overcooked - the patty was dry, rock hard and well done (close to cremation making them hard to chew and hurt the roof of your mouth). The flavours within the burger were actually very, very good, and had the patty actually been medium rare like in all the photos they use online, I think it would easily have been a fabulous burger.
As both burgers (five patties between them) were totally over cooked, I cannot recommend Stokey Bears. Also given the ambience of a very bare, dark restaurant with laminated menus. The staff were quite uninterested - mind you, it was a Saturday afternoon, but I did expect better and perhaps a bit more enthusiasm towards their diners (only three tables in total).
Tom, the founder/owner of Stokey Bears was sent a message on social media about our visit, and he seemed very disappointed and shocked about our bad experience. However, no attempt was made to encourage us to come back to try again, or try a different venue, which I found quite surprising.
The flavours have REAL potential - location, venue, staff and cooking skills though have not at those prices. Sorry to say this, as I love a great burger joint!
Best burger I have had in London so far, although a bit pricy. That bacon jam though is a gift from heaven
The food was amazing! And generous portions too. Service was great also. Only thing that let it down slightly was that there was no air-con and it was absolutely boiling in there which meant we didn't hang around as long as we'd liked too! So maybe don't go on a really hot day. Overall, great place!
Meal for 12 (majority 13 year olds plus a few adults) and it was perfect for what we needed. Good food, and hot sauce!
Didn't even bother trying to eat there - the nasty laminated menu did not bear any resemblance to the website and there was to be no effort in trying to accommodate what had been advertised online - just apathy .... plus the table was sticky!
The food may be good if you fancy something from their limited menu but I for won't be bothering to find out.
The food was really, really great. The ambience and seats are a bit bleh, the music was questionable but the food made up for it. Good price! We ordered far too much food and a drink each, and it was £37 total for two of us.
Absolutely brilliant burger but when I asked the waitress if we could have some different she said 'didn't you know this is a deep house restaurant?'....I did not.
It's a let down because the food really is excellent (greedy bear was easily one of the best burgers i've eaten in London) but the atmosphere is all wrong and you can't really relax with your meal. A bit on the spenny side too.
The only reason I marked down the food was just because out of the 4 portions of plain fries we had, 2 must have either been reheated or cooked for too long, since a bit too brown and actually not having as much flavour as the other outstanding 2...burgers were also memorable.
Nice sauces but patty itself a bit dry and overdone- not quite managed to get it medium rare. Also angry bear not spicy! Good chips and onion rings though!
Probably the best burgers in East London! The staff was very friendly and quick service. A must visit ;)
A good burger at an ok price
Sides could be better
Burgers are the best in town, have never walked away from Stokey Bears feeling disappointed at all, thanks
Lovely burger and decent value - the worst part was when it ended.
Had the grizzly burger.. bbq fries.. mac n cheese balls buffalo wings and slaw. It was like a party in my mouth, can't find anything bad to say about it-except maybe parking. Buffalo wings were a bit too hot but that s just my preference. All in all best burger in London. Put 3 stars for ambience as we was early on a Sunday..imagine it to be 5 star with a fuller restaurant
nice burgers chilli chips are lovely very trendy great service
Great service as always. Thank you
If you want a great burger with great music in an informal friendly setting this is your place!
Stopped in here for some dinner after mid week cocktails. Can recommend the chicken wings which were really good. Service was friendly and waiter went out his way to get blue cheese sauce for my friend (which wasn't on the menu). Would defo go back and recommend if you want a casual, relaxed meal in Stoke Newington.
Great place for a juicy burger. Service was great and very reasonably priced. Will go again for sure.
Ok burgers. Nothing to write home about really.
Love Stokey Bears, its a treat spot for me and my mates being a local. Mac n cheese balls are back on track, to being top quality again. Only thing I would say is the music has been just that tiny bit too loud over the past few visits.
Great burger - quality meat, well cook in a good quality bun. Good selection of drinks too.
Went for Father's Day with my family of 4. Good food, good value and responsibly sourced produce. Was pleased to see locally brewed beer and fair trade drink options. We will definitely go again. Good, honest local business that isn't trendy over substance.
The food was absolutely amazing! The best burger in London definitely and the chips were great too. The service was wonderful as the staff were so friendly and funny. I will most certainly come again and definitely recommend it
Great, juicy burgers and sides that make you lick your fingers. The deep fried mac and cheese balls are fantastic, and the hot wings are great too. Come here on your cheat day as this will be quite a dose of calories :)
It’s not open anymore. Stop taking booking opentable!
Great staff. Great friendly service as always. Amazing burgers. Best in London.
I booked a table for Mother's day for as I had previously made a booking, which I had to cancel. From the outside you think - it doesn't look like somewhere of interest but looks are deceiving.
The ambience is cool and very minamalist with booths and other seating. Not an extensive menu and no desserts (I nearly passed out). Shock over - I had the bean burger, my daughter had a kids meal and my son 16oz (greedy burger) one step up from that).
The barbecue fries and the fries in general were delicious 3 thumbs up from us. Loved it....highly recommended
Such an amazing burger and great vibe here
Great burgers, great service. The Hot Wings are a treat.
Food was really good, service was a bit sketchy as they were so busy with online take away orders. Would go back as it was a really good burger and the BBQ wings were amazing.
Great food the burgers were fantastic and loved the #holyfucksauce , and the wings were just the right amount of crispy! Very quick service. Will definitely be recommending and returning!
