Stones Restaurant Matlock
My partner and I both had the set lunch menu. My only criticism was my partners soup was very salty but we did have this refunded because of this and I have to say my pork cutlet was excellent. Service is great and will definately visit again.
Enjoyed everything the restaurant offered - great food and great service.
Superb food and service. An absolute gem of a place. Exceptional.
I had to book weeks in front to get
weekend table but my goodness it was worth the wait, the service was exceptional, the setting and atmosphere were lovely, the food was divine, one of the best date night meals me and my husband have had
Disappointed with the table location. I was the first booking for that evening yet the table was probably the worst.
Wanted somewhere special to take my son for his 30th birthday and Stones restaurant more than met that from the moment we arrived it was friendly and welcoming, the canapés, homemade bread and butter and dinner menu were delicious, even got petit fours with our coffee. Very enjoyable evening, definitely would go again.
Had an excellent meal sat in the conservatory. Each course was of fine quality and well presented.
Thoroughly recommend Stones. We have had excellent food and service on each visit.
Visited this restaurant many times & again we were not disappointed. Menu choice was excellent Our personal preference is to sit in the conservatory but sadly not possible on this occasion.
This was an Xmas gift from our son and partner. Ironically we had bought them one too because we knew they loved your restaurant! We were not disappointed. Everything about my birthday lunch was perfect. I chose the salmon and the second it was in my mouth I knew we were experiencing something different and special. We will definitely be back. Thank you to all of your staff- including your fabulous chef,
Pat and Steve Hutchinson
Great menu, beautifully presented with helpful & professional staff.
Dined in the conservatory which works well on a sunny summer’s evening
Superb. Can’t be faulted.
Great place, with great food. Thoroughly enjoyed it
Good food, very good service tends to be bit noisy- could do with some acoustic tiles on the ceiling . Do not like those steep steps down from the road .By far the best restaurant in Matlock.

We had a cheerful welcome from the very pleasant staff. My wife & I both had the delicious wild mushroom & truffle risotto for starters. I had a very ample portion of rump of beef with watercress, onion rings, tomato & mushroom sauce, with tender triple cooked chips. My wife had the spinach , lemon & gorgonzola tagliatelle with roasted pinenuts. Everything was beautifully cooked and presented. We had a good Italian pinot grigio & afterwards coffee - my wife had a perfectly made Jamesons Irish coffee. While it wasn't warm enough to sit outside, we had a pleasant outlook thro' the window to the old bridge and riverside trees. ho' my wife has some mobility difficulty, she did manage the quite steep steps down & up - handrails either side. Because of its setting, the restaurant would not be accessible to those with more severe physical disability. The Stones website did warn of this. But we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would heartily recommend it. It's very close to the town centre, station and bus station.
Consistently excellent food ; welcoming and friendly service.
Excellent meal in this beautiful restaurant with such friendly service. Look forward to another visit!
Great choice of high quality food that caters for everyone, that is cooked to perfection and presented so elegantly. The restaurant has only so many covers it can do on one night, so booking in advance is essential, but due to the low number of fellow diners, the service provided by the friendly staff is exceptional. This is our second visit and have already booked again for later in the year. On the face of it, the menu maybe on the expensive side but once you have tried will realise that it is very good value given the high standard. Give it a try yourself!
All food was perfect, had 3 course meal but were brought extra canapes, bread and gorgeous butter (really? Yes!, and chocolates.
Staff were spot on, friendly and professional. Location and atmosphere were great.
Amazing food, lovely surroundings fantastic service. Planning our next trip
Our visit was a Xmas gift from our son who as said it’s his favourite restaurant. It didn’t disappoint, the service from when we arrived was outstanding the food amazing and delicious and the staff very professional and friendly. We made a night of it and stayed in a hotel..
Our lunch visit was to celebrate a friends 85th birthday and is the 1st time we have visited Stones.
The welcome was excellent and the food and décor to a high standard. Our friend is now looking to take his family so must be good. We particularly enjoyed the range of food on offer and all were freshly cooked and full of flavour. We will return - either as a couple or with friends, probably for dinner next time. Thank you for a very pleasant afternoon.
Starters and one of main courses way below usual standard (Indeed, one main course was poor; the other good). Not charged for some drinks as a result and assured an issue in the kitchen was being resolved.
Will be returning with friends this month - Hope all will be back to usual high standard.
Absolutely spot on. Lovely setting and the highest quality food I’ve experienced out side of London. Absolutely highly rated.
Excellent canapés and bread to start. Our starters were both good - asparagus with egg and pork belly. Whist my wife's main of lamb was very tasty it was let down by too much mash and other things on the plate. My breast of chicken was the biggest disappointment - succulent chicken accompanied by a piece of cold pastry, topped with cold peppers and cold goat's cheese - most unpleasant and a real misstep. Our puddings were also underwhelming - stodgy pastry on the treacle tart, and a lemon meringue and sticky cake dessert that was unappetizing.
We had a good bottle of wine and two starter drinks and the bill came to £110 - not too much to pay for a really enjoyable meal but we felt short changed here - the main problem being the dishes themselves seemed poorly conceived.
Once again another excellent meal from Stones - food and service superb
Excellent lunch - enjoyed from start to finish Thank you
Excellent service and food , friendly helpful staff and lovely atmosphere
Simply excellent, we have used Stones many times & they are a fantastic team
We had a lovely evening. The food was excellent and the service was professional with a light touch. We will visit again and recommend to friends.
Incredible food, full of layers of flavour and some unexpected but delicious surprises throughout. Luxurious without being ostentatious, friendly and efficient staff. Beautiful outdoor area and intimate dining area. The scallop starter is a must try, and the canapes were divine. Would recommend to anyone visiting the peak district and hope to come again ourselves!
We have been before and it never disappoints. Service excellent. Neither of us cared for the Parma ham and watermelon. It was very retro and bit bland. Rest of meal and wine flight superb. Maybe next time I would ask for table in conservatory as our table for two in the corner a bit dark.
Lovely restaurant located next to the river. Food excellent as usual- this time we had the tasting menu. Every course was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful.
Great service and delicious food - what more can you ask for from a Michelin star restuarant!
We were delighted to be finally at Stones, and enjoyed the atmosphere and the wonderful service. Thank you also for the kind gesture to mark our anniversary. We are sorry we could not stay longer because of other commitments, and our overall assessment reflects this, the food arrived rather slowly, and as we conveyed already, the soup was really oversalted. The rest of the food was great, and we are likely to return in summer.
Recommended highly to us and we were not disappointed when we went for lunch. Lovely, imaginative food, beautiful to look at and tasting even better! And, although the plates looked dainty, the portions were more than adequate and we ate very little in the evening!
We ate here last year for our wedding anniversary and so decided on a return visit. The food was again fantastic. I love the separate vegetarian menu and it was overall a amazing dining experience
This was the first time we have been for lunch and were placed in The Orangery
The restaurant was relatively quiet so it led to a pleasant atmosphere and attentive service
My wife said it was probably her most enjoyable restaurant meal since we went to Sat Bains 9 months ago
This is an excellent restaurant and we will certainly be returning! Food and service were sublime on the night!
Lovely evening for husband’s birthday. Great place. Service and food outstanding.
