Stones Restaurant Matlock
We always enjoy going to Stones and they never disappoint with excellent food and service. It was a special occasion as it was my husbands birthday and it was a lovely surprise they decorated a plate with chocolates and candles. We are visiting again in April to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We just know we will have a wonderful time.
Lovely food and experience again!
Looking forward to visiting the Bluebell Pub when open!
Absolutely loved it the food was amazing great service drinks reasonably priced would definitely go back and would definitely recommend
Wedding anniversary lunch. Received complimentary chocolates (which was a nice touch). Food and wine was very enjoyable and the service was excellent. It was our first visit to “Stones” and we will certainly repeat the experience.
The quality of the food was excellent, the restaurant décor lovely and of high quality. The staff though friendly, pleasant and knowledgeable seemed a little distracted at times, though this didn't detract from the overall great dining experience.
Fabulous food. Small menu all done very well indeed. It's not cheap but I wouldn't expect it to be.
As always, terrific food and environment. Many thanks.
A small but excellent restaurant in a lovely position beside the river in the centre of Matlock. An imaginative menu, very well presented and served by knowledgeable and friendly staff. Quite expensive, but worth paying for on special occasions.
Great value for the price, delicious food, lovely presentation and great service!
Everything about the evening was lovely
The tasting menu is fantastic, even better with when you add the matching wines with the wine flight.
many thanks for a wonderful evening
As usual we had a brilliant night with great food and service. Looking forward to the opening of the Bluebell at South Wingfield
A special evening to celebrate our retirements. Perfect in every way.
We have been having lunch here on an occasional basis for several years. Consistently outstanding.
Thank you once again for a wonderful meal. Brilliantly catered for as a coeliac. A great place to treat yourself to a beautiful meal. The staff are lovely and very helpful without being intrusive. The menus never fail to surprise for choice and taste. Thank you
Stones is consistently good, providing first class food in a comfortable atmosphere, with great service that is attentive without being overbearing. We are very pleased that they have chosen our village in which to open their second enterprise and wish them the best of luck with the venture
Amazing restaurant. The food is simply stunning. We had the tasting menu which was a perfect mix of tastes and textures. They left the perfect amount of time between each course and the service was very professional. Highly recommended.
Lovely staff, nice environment to have a meal. Hard to get a reservation but we'll worth it for an outstanding meal. Would definitely go again!
Superb food and service. Well worth the hour train journey. The menu is small but you don’t feel stuck for choice and there are plenty of vegetarian options. The cheese board is definitely worth a go.
This is our 4th year in a row we've visited Stones for Valentines day and as always we were blown away by the food and the service. We will be back in 2020 100% guaranteed, it's still my favourite restaurant I've visited. You are made to feel so welcome and so relaxed, you'll want for nothing as the service is so personal but professional. There was only thing that let our last visit down and that was a group table of around 10 people that must've thought they were in a noisy pub or fast food restaurant, they were extremely raucous and loud, completely unnecessarily loud bellows of laughter that sounded fake and raised voices as though they needed to talk over something although everyone else in the restaurant were talking quietly. This is obviously not the restaurants fault but maybe they could've stepped in, made them aware that they're over zealous ways we're not in keeping with the restaurant, could be intrusive to their other customers conversations and spoiling their evening.
Stones never fails to deliver. Although the waiting on staff were young they were friendly and efficient.
The food here is delicious and the service was attentive enough that you were never left wanting but it wasn’t overbearing.
I’d recommend anyone who appreciates well cooked food at a decent price to come here and enjoy what they have to offer!
Fined for the valentines menu, 7 courses £48 amazing value. Fine dining in a welcoming relaxed environment.
Will always be favourite treat place
Both the food and service were excellent, as I have a dairy and lactose intolerance the staff and chef could not do enough for me. We will definitely be back.
Lovely menu and great food - especially the mango and yuzu dessert. Only slight distraction was the waitresses frequently looking through the window to see if we had finished.
First time here. Excellent food and service in a lovely location.
Our evening at Stones was a wonderful experience with excellent staff and great food. It is our second visit in a week. We will be returning again.
The food was as good as we've come to expect at this fantastic little restaurant. Not too much to overfill you but allows room for 3 courses; however, don't forget the complimentary chocolates at the end as there were 8 of them between two when we went!
A night out for a treat for my wife and I. We’ve been to Stones a number of times before and it was again consistent with our previous visits. I always feel it does a lot of the functional basics well and has some nice touches but is a bit let down by the actual food. Canapés on arrival were nice and aperitif choice was good. Service is fine but staff are very young and lack the real knowledge of the food and wine that you get at more top end places. Menu is safe with nothing unusual. Certainly nothing to scare you off but also nothing that really grabs you. Starters were pleasant but not exceptional and the main courses were well presented but were both just a bit bland. Deserts were nice though (always seem to me to be the thing Stones does best) and the petit fourrs were top notch and were the best thing we had.
Stones is the only “nice” restaurant in town and in that context is the nicest place to eat. It doesn’t really stand comparison with the better places in Nottingham though and is actually about the same price so I always feel it’s a bit overpriced.
Stones is very easy to summarise, excellent food, friendly and attentive staff and a great all round dining experience
Good food, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, warm comfortable environment.
Lovely overall experience. Cocktails, canapes and petit fours all make if extra special. Slightly disappointed with the beef as was expecting a small rib of beef in slices. Turnip was rock hard and all was luke warm. Didn't want to make a fuss as with a group of friends. Starter. Breads and puds all lovely. Overall experience very nice.
We dine at Stones 3-4 times a year. The food is consistently excellent, as it was on this occasion, with lovely touches like the amuse-bouches, artisan breads and butters. The service is good but not quite as slick as it used to be - sometimes you are left for too long or water isn't brought to your table after you've asked. I hope they can sort that out, as it used to be just as excellent as the food.
Quite excellent food and service. The place for a quiet, special occasion
We took friends here for a special birthday meal and everything was excellent!!
First class food, service and lovely ambience!
Never been disappointed in Stones and will continue to go back!
Excellent as usual, never disappointed. Menu has good choice and ample portions.
Really enjoyed our experience. Top service and outstanding food. Très bien
As always an excellent evening. The food is superb and the staff very charming. It is nice to enjoy a very good cocktail whilst choosing your food and the wine list comprehensive.
This restaurant deserves to be in the Open Table top 100 restaurants as I cannot fault it.
We continue to go to this restaurant despite it not being too local, but it is so worth the journey. We always enjoy the excellent food, quality service and relaxed atmosphere. We will continue to revisit.
We enjoyed our meal very much. The little tasters had very hard rye bread. My sparkling water had a very peculiar taste but everything else was fine
