Took my family to Strega by Nick Varano in the North End while my aunt was visiting from out of town. Strega has everything you could want, the best food, energetic staff, amazing mixture of people! You get more than just a night out but a whole experience! Never a dull moment!
We had been to Strega in Burlington and had mixed experiences but thought we would try the Boston location after being told by friends it was excellent. We were disappointed by the waiter who mumbled through dinner and by the poor preparation of the food. The salumi plate we ordered looked like something my grandma would throw together and the lamp chops were overcooked. Needless to say with so many other great choices in the North End we will not be back!
We had an entire glass of red wine spilt all over our table from the table behind us. The red wine splashed and ruined my fiancé’s shirt, splashed all over my bag, shoes and our child. The weather was a factor and we were good sports about it. I would have thought the staff would have been more sympathetic to the situation. I wasn’t expecting anything for free but I would have appreciated if it at least acknowledged by staff. They too concerned with turning with turning the table that they treated us like cattle. At a nice restaurant with expensive prices that is not the experience we hoped for when dining at Strega.
Worst service I have ever received. We had a reservation for 8. We waiting until 9:15 to be seated. Once seated our waiter forgot about for 20 minutes and we walked out. I have never posted a bad review in my life but this was brutal. I will never go back to this place.
The hostess was the only positive about this location. Otherwise, everything else was lacking and disappointing.
Didn’t get seated until an hour after our reservation time but once we were seated it was great!
The food was good, service not so much. Waiter didn’t check on us once and our bill wasn’t cheap. There must have been some sort of birthday party next to us because people were standing right near us for half the meal. I never write reviews but I feel somewhat ripped off by this establishment. Not to mention we had a reservation for 8:30. Random people walked up and got seated ahead of us it felt like. Didn’t sit until after 9.
Excellent service. Food was delicious. Pricey
We had reservations for 8pm, we did not get seated until 8:45pm in a very crowded restaurant. Despite the cities guidelines, there were several groups larger than 6 people and there was no where close to 6' between tables. In addition, very few of the waitstaff and kitchen staff (that I could see) were wearing their masks properly. Other guest were also moving around the restaurant, talking to the servers and other tables, without masks, and did not get reprimanded.
The food was really good, but I was too frustrated to fully enjoy it.
Our experience at strega was wonderful! The food and drinks were absolutely amazing and the service was great. We will definitely be going back.
I enjoyed the food and ambiance.. Will be there again..
This is the outstanding restaurant of the North End -- melt in your mouth pastas, delicious sauces, the freshes and most delicious seafood. You can't do better! Service is fun yet gracious. If you want a North End meal that is both authentic and incredibly delicious, eat here.
Always hard to find a fun but also great place to eat- Absolutely Amazing- loved Carlo!!
Carlo is the guy you need to see at Strega. He guided us through the menu with ease and made excellent wine recommendations for my friend’s birthday. If you’re looking for a casual dinner, special occasion, or anything in between, then Strega is your spot
The bread was fabulous!! but everything else was bland and small portions
the conif chicken parm, gross , not the usual chicken parm cutlet
and the sauce on the fusilli was thin and watery
the Bolognese was mediocre, and not enough sauce on the pasta.
wont go back ...
Took a friend who was visiting to celebrate birthdays and it was incredible. Been here before and always have a great time the staff is so nice and friendly the food is incredible you can tell it’s all so fresh. Ate outside and loved it - gnocchi is incredible
Loved our dinner at Strega! Our waiter Carlo was the best!
The food was delicious. Service was excellent
Food was very good
Arrived early so we had to sit outside
It was cold but we survived.
We sat outside on a beautiful Easter day. We ordered brunch. The cinnamon rolls were the best I ever had. It went downhill from there. We never received one entree - the waitress barely checked on us - never asked if we wanted a second drink. The omelet was ok - nothing special. The pastas were great including a gluten free option.
I loved the atmosphere but was truly disappointed with the service. A bummer because I wanted to love it.
The best one in north end!! The staffs and the foods are FABULOUS!!
A very pleasant experience, the food was awesome and I will be back!
I love this restaurant! The food is Ah-mazing , the staff is friendly and engaging and the ambience is comfortable yet elite!! You can dress casually or to the nines and you will feel right at home! The music selection is fun and makes for a great night out and the best weekend brunch get together! This is a place I will visit 1000 times again and recommend to anyone!
Fantastic brunch that left us wanting to do nothing but schedule our next reservation!
Best place to eat in Boston. Absolutely awesome, amazing food, amazing vibe, amazing service. Strongly recommend.
We had an excellent time.. The host, Sophia, was welcoming and the rest of the staff were warm friendly especially our waiter, Carlos.. I would recommend Strega because the food, service and ambiance was delightful!
A great, tasty spot for a date in Boston's North End.
Tasteless, bad service, and not worth the price premium compared to the much better restaurants that make up the rest of north end
In and out in 1 hour! We asked for dessert but they were not offering any and recommended a cafe down the street, (so so) I understand the need during Covid for restaurants to turn tables over quickly but to not offer dessert or coffee in order to do so is and to not inform you of that policy prior to the reservation is a very poor business strategy. The food was ok at best, certainly not the quality of the past. It used to be one of the best in the North End but I fear their expansion has hurt the quality of the original restaurant. They are now resting on their laurels.
Absolutely amazing meal during Dine Out Boston Week! Started with the lobster ravioli and thought I had died and for to heaven (along with amazing bread). Would not normally do it at an Italian restaurant but the Twin Filet Medallions were excellent. Finished with a cannoli what can I say!!
The food was great along with our server. We did however feel very cramped and it was very loud. There were dividers between tables & everyone was operating with all covid protocols in mind.
Our wait was 30+ minutes past reservation. Food and service was great.
If you are not in 20s stay far away for Sunday Brunch or anytime Sunday before 4 pm. Blaring inappropriate club music, staff without mask (male manager) or under noses (waitstaff), party of 20 seated (limit is still 10 I believe), if I wasn’t fully vaccinated I probably would have left. We arrived on time for our reservation, were asked to come back in 15 minutes which we did and waited another 15-20 before table was ready.
Hostess was apologetic and kind but she was really the only one who cared about our experience. Wish we were warned of the atmosphere, would rather have them suggest returning in the evening than drop $ and not enjoy. Have been to Strega Waterfront and thoroughly enjoyed many times, can’t say the same about Strega North End.
We had to wait to be seated for 1 hour, it was my birthday dinner so we waited but otherwise we would have left. I had to ask for a formal apology as we did not get one during the dinner. Atmosphere is good and food as well. We still noticed they were on a rush to close so did not feel comfortable. They didn’t ask if we wanted desserts and did not offer any discounts given their bad management of time... would like to go back and have the right experience as place looks nice, but don’t book dinner at 9PM or experience will likely be worse than expected.
As always Strega was amazing food with an amazing atmosphere. Our server was one of the worst I’ve ever seen and terrible at his craft. We were sitting at our table for 20 minutes before he realized he never took our order only after we reminded him. Then we waited almost another twenty minutes for us to get drinks and only after I yelled hey after the 6th time he walked by our table and ignored us. We’ve been going to Strega for years and this is the first time we had something bad to say about the staff. I usually tip out 40-50% but he got 20% to the penny and he was lucky to get that. Hoping Strega goes back to its old ways of providing a experience.
I thought the food was waaay overpriced for what I got. Ordered a burrata e the salmon dish. Both very, very average and quite expensive. The burrata tasted like was bought at the supermarket & the cheapest brand. Sorry, won’t go back.
Very accommodating when I showed up for my reservation I made for 4 when I really had 5 and didn’t realize it. Food was great. Great value. My niece had a great time for her birthday!
Our waiter was very rude and didn’t even introduce himself or give us a chance to look at the menu. Our entire experience was rushed. Multiple times our dishes were almost taken while we were still eating. We were given our check (while we still had glasses of wine in front of us) 50 minutes into our dinner. Food was fine but not something special, could have got the same caliber food elsewhere with better service.
