Sorry, but WAY overpriced and WAY overrated. Nothing authentically Japanese about this place. Sushi rice was like grocery store bought sushi rice. Many better sushi options in NYC.
Have to say, though, that service was great and quite friendly.
Best sushi I’ve ever had. Super consistent
Great food guys. Sushi was unbelievable. A Bit steep on the prices but overall great place!
Great service and spectacular food. Each piece was better than the last.
I love coming here for Omakase. Chef Jimmy is the best chef at Sushi Dojo!
The experience was very good. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
Great! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
We decided to get the degustation menu for 128 USD. The quantity of food was so little.....and the much less of a previous time where we took a menu of 98 USD. When we complained they just said that was it......but really the cannot offer 10 piece of sushi and 5 pieces of sashimi for 128 USD. Never go there again
Seats were immediately ready, the omakase was creative and delicious, and chef Jimmy was friendly and knowledgeable. We loved watching his knife skills! The hostess even brought out a surprise mochi dessert for the kid celebrating his birthday next to us. The only negative was that the bathroom needed a fan...
There is no better place for sushi in NYC. Each piece is a masterful creation of the sushi chef along with outstanding service and exceptional value
Sat at the sushi bar and ordered the $98 omakase. Everything was outstanding!
Superb quality. Inventive sushi. Fresh fish. Amazing service and ambiance. Excellent value
Very, very mediocre. Also, their pieces are tiny, so they are not offering any bargain with the $95 omakase. It was not horrible, but I don't think I would ever go back given that NYC offers much better sushi options anyways. I know their prices are cheap but just pay a little more and have much better quality of food elsewhere.
So good sushi omakase! Ambiance is chill and easy and sushi is top quality! We have been so many Michelin star sushi restaurant, and we think sushi dojo deserved a star !
We went on a Monday evening and were unaware that Sunday and Monday are basically Omakase (chef tasting menu) only. This made for a slightly more expensive experience, but the food was delightful. Artic Char, Sea Urchin, in fact so many different things you wouldn’t ordinarily try.
Amazing experience! Great quality Omakase, worth every penny. Highly recommended.
The 12 course omakase was amazing! Great classics and some unique pieces like uni with truffle foam. Overall it was a good deal, we left full and everything was noticeably high quality. I would definitely return!
We went for my mother’s birthday after hearing about how spectacular Sushi Dojo was. Right upon walking in, we knew we were in for something special, as everyone sitting at the sushi bar already was transfixed on the sushi chefs delicately and precisely creating masterpieces. Ordering a few beers and some sake, three of us ordered the omakase while another decided to go a la carte (which had to add up to $98+ since we were at the sushi bar). The staff was extremely accomodating and engaging and made sure to take into account all of our preferences. We sat with the sushi chef Jimmy, who was absolutely wonderful throughout the entire night, studying our reactions to see which flavors we appreciated the most and making recommendations to the one who ordered a la carte based on what flavors she described loving the most. He even convinced my dad, an extremely picky eater, to try such pieces as ones with quail egg and mackerel, even though he tends to stay away from those, and he was in absolute heaven, and Jimmy was just excited that he could make my dad step out of his comfort zone and fall in love with new pieces. Creative creations like ones with truffle foam or foie gras or A5 Wagyu were absolutely mindblowing. The simple pieces were just the freshest quality fishes, and little additions such as incorporating chili or jalapeno just added to how unique the creations were. Overall, this was the perfect special place to take my mother for her special day, as her mind was blown, and we’re going to be sure to come back for any special occasion in the future. Great value for omakase, great atmosphere, great staff (I would request Jimmy!), and extraordinary food. Please be sure to add this to your bucket list of NYC restaurants for omakase and simply food fans alike.
This place is unmatched. The quality here is as good as any top sushi restaurant but the prices are not close. Everytime I go back I think why am I even trying other spots and not just coming here every time I want a great sushi meal. I've been here maybe 15 times lifetime and won't be stopping soon.
The sushi was soooo fresh and we went early so the place was very quiet and nice.
Great omakase as always that is why I keep coming back! Chef Ken serves the most delicious sushi pieces I’ve ever had. Very innovative and he always has a smile on his face at all times. These two pieces are just so good I had to order them twice.
The sushi was amazing and everything about the experience was perfect except for a small bone in one piece of fish. Despite that, it was still some of the best sushi I have ever had.
Delicious and fresh fish at very affordable prices. Best quality for the value in Manhattan
Every piece was fresh, delicious, and special in its own way. I also love uni and they included more than one piece with uni.
Excellent variety of fresh fish served at affordable prices. Our chef Ken was literally creating art out of fish and rice. Paired with excellent service and wide sake selection Sushi Dojo easily stands above most sushi restaurants in Manhattan
Sushi Dojo never disappoints. They serve THE BEST OMAKASE AND A LA CARTE QUALITY FISH in NYC at the MOST REASONABLE PRICES.
The new thing at the sushi counter is that customers don't have to order omakase if they don't feel like that, but can place A La Carte orders as long as they meet $98 minimum per person for sushi not excluding rolls/ hand rolls
I just had this experience tonight and very happy that I could order pieces that I really like instead of mixed omakase that might have sushi I'm not crazy about.
The service was superb as always.
SIMPLY THE BEST!!!
Service is great but the sushi is not tasty. First of all, fish is not really fresh. Plating is pretty but not sure for omakase taste
Waiter has BO which was a bit difficult to bare during the dinner! But the food and service was amazing
Phenomenal sushi, excellent quality with exquisite preparation
Sushi Dojo offers creative sushi pieces in the Omakase course. Flavors such as foie gras, truffle and black garlic's are incorporated throughout the course. For seasoned omakase or sushi eaters, Sushi Dojo may not be satisfying as some of the creative flavors overpower the fish itself, but that's not the purpose of the omakase offered at Sushi Dojo. This is a good introduction to omakase or sushi for people who aren't familiar with omakase concept and different flavors and texture of raw fish. A few pieces such as sweet shrimp with foie gras, three layered sushi with bluefin tuna, A5 waygu beef and chu toro tartar, truffle foam infused sushi and yuzu infused ikura were pleasant pieces for the course. My favorite pieces were both flavored with truffle but I cannot quite remember what the fish were under the powerful flavor. Nonetheless, it was a good experience.
Amazing food and service. Monday night omekase was amazing.
Perfect all around Michellin- Rated. The real deal!!!
Amazing! Will be back soon again!
Great omakase at this price point. Better thank some at a higher price point. Was delicious and would definitely go back.
Amazing sushi, I loved the flavors and the variety of fish we got was amazing. The most amazing piece was at the very end when we got a wagyu sushi with foie gras. I never had anything like that before. Service was amazing as well and our waitress went the extra mile for our birthday celebration. My only complaint is that the place just feels like a cheap sushi place, with kind of an old bathroom so it doesn't get the full 5 stars for that.
First time in a years I left a negative review, but this was a very disappointing omakase. Half of the pieces were overpowered with lemon. This is our 10th omakase in NYC and have been to Michelin omakase as well as lower end and this was our least favorite. Very disappointing because the reviews made it seem much better. There are so many better options to choose from.
Great sushi spot in the East Village. Ordered the omakase at the sushi bar and we could see our sushi chef make each piece before our eyes. Great variety of fish which were all delicious. Would highly recommend
We had an excellent time and delicious meal! I’ve previously been to dojo and was seated at the sushi bar. This time I was seated at a table. I definitely preferred the sushi bar and would make a point to sit there again next time. High quality and tasty fish!
