This is a big warning to anyone thinking of coming to this restaurant.. PLEASE DON’T!
I booked this restaurant as I work around the corner for a news organization. What a mistake. I arrived and was greeted very warmly. It was 6.30 on a Tuesday evening and I explained that my husband and I might only stay for drinks, and would that be an issue, the waiter said no problem and asked if he should leave the menus. I said yes as we might be hungry later. We were never pressured into ordering food. We ordered 2 x rounds of drinks, olives and bread and spent £45 and were only there an hour. We left at 7.30. Bearing in mind it was an Tuesday evening the week after lockdown.. 60% of the tables were empty. Now I know why.
We decided not to eat there as it was getting cold and there were no heaters. My husband ( who is half italian ) overheard the man in charge shouting at his staff in italian about why we weren’t eating. I then go to the ladies and this revolting old man who I assume was owner was waiting for me at the top of the stairs who aggressively tells me “for your reference, when you book a restaurant- you eat”. He then proceeds to shout in my face in front of all the other diners. I have never been so humiliated and shaken up at a restaurant in my life. It was so embarrassing two other female diners asked me if I was ok.
He has since cancelled my booking through open table to save himself the £3.50 it cost him for the table, I hope
it was worth it.
This is no reflection upon his staff who were delightful, I would steer well clear of this place. I will be warning all my colleagues and friends of this place.
Lovely little unknown spot. V friendly staff and good food
First night out after lockdown - lovely courtyard with heaters and great staff
Our meal at Taberna was outstanding. We enjoyed fluffy gnocchi in a tomato-based sauce, and two main dishes of fish and meat that were very tasty. A full-bodied wine complemented our meal. We will not hesitate to return to Taberna Etrusca when we are next in London.
Spot on experience
Food was excellent - service excellent, glass of wine was never less than half full! Slightly on the expensive side but good authentic Italian food!
Very good services and kind hospitality.
Very nice meal at the restaurant on a weekday. Food and service were both very good and the ambience is typically Italian. My only slight gripe is that (1) we were charged £3.50 for a small bottle of fizzy water and (2) we were served double gins & tonic without requesting a double.
Old school Italian. Always busy - fun place to come.
Absolutely brilliant, one of my favourites in London
We went here for a business lunch on a Friday. The place was not completely busy but there were still a fair amount of people to occupy the staff. Nonetheless the service was great. We opted for the 2 course menu for 17£ - a starter and main.
The food was great, portion size was substantial but not so much to put you to sleep in the afternoon. I recommended this place to my teammates at work for a more business centric lunch.
Outstanding as always - relaxed proper Italian food!
Great food, nice service, relaxed atmosphere
Authentic Italian cooking. Excellent homemade traditional food. Relaxed atmospher. Great prosecco! Will come again!
Always enjoyable. Friendly, swift and patient. Almost local, with a real mix of people despite its location so close to the City and the financial district. A genuine gem of a place.
And an interesting menus with well cooked italian treats and specialities.
An easy place to meet friends and eat together. Not good for a romantic evening as it is quite bright
This is a nice restaurant with good atmosphere at lunchtime. Quite casual. Nice pasta dishes. Just be aware that the prices of the pasta dishes are as a starter so you need to add approx £4 if you ask as a main.
Perfect real Italian cuisine!
Taberna Etrusca is a great restaurant in the City of London just a few minutes walk from St Paul's Cathedral and Bank.
It has the feel of an authentic Italian family restaurant providing quality food at reasonable prices.
It has become a regular venue for business lunches and I would thoroughly recommend for both business or pleasure.
Beetroot gnocchi was somewhat stodgy but the rest of the meal, risotto, and sea bass were excellent.
Taberna Etrusca is a gem of a restaurant just a few minutes from St Paul's Cathedral in the historic area around Bow Church. It is an authentic Italian restaurant providing quality food at reasonable prices for the City of London. Service is friendly and the menu is the perfect blend of traditional and interesting. I would thoroughly recommend for business or pleasure.
Taberna Etrusca is a traditional Italian restaurant in The City. It's a long standing venue which has been feeding City workers fine Italian food for many years.
Would certainly recommend.
Have been a few times over the years. Consistent traditional Italian food in a quiet setting. Only real gripe is the lack of vegetarian main meal options, unusual that most of the pasta dishes include meat or fish. The last couple of times I've suffered with an undercooked penne with a few slices of mushroom and rocket. Poor!
Amazing main courses. We ordered the tagliatelli with mushrooms and the grilled calamari, they were outstanding but the desserts were not at the same level. Still they were very good! The staff is very nice and the restaurant is quiet.
Well located in central london near tube station for evening catch up with friends. Not to busy or loud making it a good venue. Child friendly too.
Crab spaghetti was divine!
An excellent restaurant which has been the mainstay of EC4 for many years, and deservedly so. The food is first class and the prices, especially the prix-fixe lunch, are very reasonable indeed. The service is very friendly and you can see from how full the restaurant is on a Thursday how well it is regarded. Thoroughly recommended, and can't wait to go back.
Friendly, traditional Italian restaurant in the City. The food was good, as was the service and the fixed-priced menu offered good value and ample choice. A solid choice for lunch with business colleagues or friends.
Absolutely amazing food! It was so great, we ordered our entree dish twice as the fried prawn was to die for. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed ourselves and we'll be back. Food was good and great value.
Recommended and lovely atmosphere . Potion size was just right . My colleague commented that food was very ‘clean ‘ and not stodgy .
Lovely lunch, great food. Looking forward to going back.
I have eaten here many times and always good!
Tenors were too close to each other and service but poor bit food was good
A very lively and buzzy place for lunchtime on a Monday. Food was excellent - Beetroot gnocchi was amazing.
I was disappointed when they tried to charge us main course prices for the pasta dishes when we didn't ask for the larger portions nor were we asked at the time of ordering. The bill was corrected but I didn't get a warm feeling from the waiting staff as we left. A shame as I would have loved to return there.
Food was reasonable. Service was poor - lackadaisical and inattentive. I had booked in advance and confirmed but there was no record of booking. Orders were not all completed correctly.
Not been here for 15 years and it is just as good now as it was then. Good atmosphere with Paulo the effusive head of house that gives this place a unique atmosphere. Great for business lunches and those with good friends.
Hard to find, but nice little hidden gem. Reasonably priced for really well prepared dishes. Good Italian wine list.
Fantastic!
Perfect as always
