Excellent food, great staff. First choice for me when in Birmingham centre.
Great food and service at the Taj Mahal and good value for money
Great service and food. Very reasonably priced. Hidden gem. Second visit.
Awesome food with beautiful interior and a very good service. Happy with overall services. I will definitely go back there.
We were having a couple of nights in Birmingham and decided that we must have a curry! We googled Indian restaurants near our hotel and came across the Taj Mahal. We were not disappointed! We were there just after 18.00 so it was fairly quiet but the service was very good and the food was excellent!
Table for 6 was ready for us when we arrived.Quick friendly service, good quality food and good portion size,no complaints
No visit to Birmingham would be complete without a decent Indian meal and that's exactly what we had at the Taj Mahal. The food was very enjoyable and the prices were very reasonable. The only slight gripes were that we must have waited 10 minutes before anybody took a drinks order from us (it was early/half full) although service was quick once it started. Also, unfortunately there was no low alcohol/alcohol free drink options apart from fizzy pop/water/juice. In this day and age it's surprising that there are no alcohol free or low alcohol beer options especially as Cobra make an excellent one and there is plenty of choice out there. No deal breaker but important to some of us. Overall very nice and we would return.
Sadly I had taken family with me for this second visit (first last year was great) but wouldn't again.
Had booked a table but had to stand for 15 mins not being dealt with while people with no bookings were given tables as they became available.
Once seated and given menus had to wait another 15 mins before being able to order drinks
Again a long wait to place our meal choices (and the waiter was rather brusk and almost rude)
The food was lovely - only highlight
As we again waited (30mins) with our dirty plates and no offer of another drink or dessert
We even had to wait ages to pay the bill!
It was busy but it's only small so shouldn't have been that much of an issue
Food was excellent, couldn’t fault the service as they were friendly and helpful
Genuinely great find in the city centre. Very happy with the food and service and at a great price. I will definitely go back there again. We didn’t want to travel outside the city centre so this was perfect for us.
Very busy night with a full restaurant but our service was excellent . Very pleasant polite staff and every course was brought to our table quickly and correctly. Food was amazing and great portion size too !
We wanted a "traditional" Indian restaurant, as opposed to something upmarket. We were impressed by the attentiveness of the staff, who sought to ensure that we had an enjoyable experience. For a starter, my wife and I shared the Chicken Tikka and enjoyed the tenderness of the meat, whilst expressing pleasant surprise at the spiciness that snuck up on us. For main, I enjoyed my Chicken Jalfrezi, whilst my wife said her Chicken Korma was the best she had ever eaten. Personally, I wasn't so keen on the Fried Mushroom Rice, as it was a bit oily...should have gone for the Pilau Rice instead! The food was plentiful and we felt a bit guilty that we left half of the Peshwari Naan bread. All in all well worth a visit. Just note that service charge is included on the bill
Attentive staff coping with a very busy service and the food was excellent.
Waste of money and service poor. Waste of money. Over priced
Found this on Open Table for a last minute date night. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was prompt. The food was very good and very good value including the drinks. My husband said it was the best Indian food he’d had outside of India. We will definitely be back.
Tucked away a little, but an absolute gem. Worth a trip if you are after a decent curry.
We arrived as a group of 7. They were full but asked for 20mins to sort things out.
When we sat down we got full hospitable attention.
Great recommendations from the waiter and the food delivered. For such a large menu and a diverse set of tastes within our group, it was rare to hear every single dish and side praised.
Not a visually stunning location but the food is worth a detour.
We visited last year and thoroughly enjoyed our meal, so decided to come back on our recent visit to Birmingham
Great food and a very welcoming restaurant!
Excellent and flavoursome food in a softly lit restaurant, wonderful and attentive staff who nothing is too much trouble for. Have visited regularly and have never been disappointed. Good menu and I find the portion sizes are ample. Always a friendly welcome.
Lovely restaurant food excellent and the staff are very friendly..
Well worth a visit if you're in Birmingham..
Really good food and the waiters were helpful and knowledgeable, telling us if we were ordering too much or too little food. Will definitely return.
Decent curry and despite them being really busy they delivered good service overall. Good location and easy to get to.
Taj Mahal did not honour the Open Table booking, we used a bar around the corner for an hour then went back. We then cleared a table ourselves so that we could sit down.
Food was okay (Ghandi's revenge the following day though).
Service was very poor.
The chap at front of house should have been at the rear.
We had a brilliant meal here, the staff were very attentive to our needs and we really enjoyed our dinner. It's great how close to New Street station it is too as well as the theatres. We will definitely be going again
Flexible. Friendly. Welcoming. Great to think that they've been going for 57 years.
We booked the table. Were asked to sit in one corner. After waiting 15 minutes get to the waiter and he says that it will take 15 minutes to take order and another 45 minutes to service. If you don't want to wait, please leave. And leave we did!
Lovely atmosphere on a sunny warm evening. Friendly and efficient service. Really enjoyed the food, generous portions, well presented and drinks a reasonable price. This restaurant is excellent value in a very central location. Nice modern and clean setting, I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely return. Only negative was that our table was by the stairs with boxes and brooms at the bottom, not a great view.
Delicious food, we both had fish dishes. Poppodums crisp and fresh, accompaniments very tasty although I didn’t like the yogurt as it was sweetened.
Very friendly service and good quality food! I really appreciated the attention to what each of my family and wanted including spice level.
The Taj is everything you would expect from a quality Indian restaurant. Attentive service with beers and popadoms on the table promptly. The menu has a varied selection of choices with some interesting twists on some old favourites. Great tasting meals were severed quickly and did not disappoint.
Great atmosphere, great service, great food need I say more.
Awesome service we arrived and the staff r very welcoming and very fast service
A very good Indian restaurant in Birmingham in a quiet side street near New Street Station. This was our second visit and again was a very enjoyable experience. The food was really good and the service both friendly and efficient. I wod recommend the Rezala curry for those who prefer mild dishes. We will certainly be returning.
Every visit to the Taj Mahal has been fantastic, and this one was no exception. The food was superb and the service was faultless. The only disappointment we had was that there were no Gulab Jamuns available on the day we visited, which would have rounded our great meal off nicely.
First time. Lovely food. Great location and ambience. Very good pricing. We will be back.
Very impressed with the taj-mahal the food was excellent the service and staff very helpful and very friendly would definitely recommend this place
Below average tasteless food, was not expecting this after reading the reviews. Moreover they treat everyone differently.
Recommend for well cooked food and some less known choices too
Very good service, very friendly staff and a legend of a restaurant with regulars coming and so many amazing memories. Well done
Visited with friends and had Delicious food with friendly service
I definitely would visit again
