VERY good food - will be coming back once allowed - Staff very friendly and several logs fires - very nice
Gorgeous pub, sat right next to the open fire. The staff were wonderfully accommodating and made a huge fuss over my 2 year old daughter. The shared Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious.
Brilliant service will absolutely be going back to visit again.
Thoroughly enjoyed . Service was excellent.......Jo
Poor quality food, all seemed to be from pre-prepared 'factory' food. Service was very slow, yet our food had obviously been kept warm for some time, so was dry and rather nasty.
We shall not be going there again.
Excellent Thai food!
Food was good but not outstanding. OK, it was only lunch, but I was expecting a little bit more on my plate. Service was excellent and the pub is delightful. We will try it again.
Very good Sunday lunch excellent choice, will return very soon.
Sunday lunch was very good indeed, served by friendly staff.
Free good meal. Good quality ingredients, well cooked.
Safe environment
Service could have been better
Food let experience down iyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Such a treat to eat out at this lovely place. The only disappointment was the onion soup which was a bit too full of onions, otherwise all very good. The duck was just right and we added the tender stem broccoli. The chocolate pudding was really rich , a little certainly was enough. The service was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was lovely. Very attractive decorations with the added bonus of the open fire. Already looking forward to the next meal there.
Lovely lunch, and unobtrusive coronavirus compliance.
Great Thai meal! Lovely Christmasy atmosphere and efficient friendly service.
Excellent staff and food quality. Well spaced /good set up to get separation. Took some time to get main course but worth the wait as not in a hurry. Will be back soon again.
Myself and a friend visiting from St Lucia had fantastic good. My friend had the halibut which was superb and so tasty. And I had the lamb and suet pudding ! Lovely relaxing atmosphere with top service. I’ll be back for my 50th birthday as it was excellent !!
My friend and I often come to Abergavenny we really like it
Superb Sunday roast will be returning soon !! !!!!
Great food and service in a lovely country setting.
Lovely to be back and being recognised! The new menu is spot on and well presented.
So disappointed after hearing good reviews.
Long wait to refills, lack of being looked after, confusion if orders, things did not turn up.. water, extra bread etc
Waitress was not v friendly and def not using initiative: if 3 people are sharing a baked brie.. suggest extra bed as this was a portion for one.. we did.. and still it did not turn up! Tepid food and cold broccoli. Brocolli replaced and still just about warm.
V small menu..
nice Christmas decorations, but even one small table we noticed had overhead light not working so dimly lit..
such a shame. V disappointed and not impressed.
Waitresses need to be more friendly and helpful and someone in charge who makes guests welcome.. esp in these times when they need our support when we make the effort to go out.
We had a very nice evening. The food was top notch and the staff were very friendly and professional. We will be booking up again in the near future
Lovely food and service and a really festive atmosphere. Very responsible Covid approach. Recommended.
Another fantastic experience. Amazing food and great service.
A great last meal before lockdown , a full pub is always a good sign and im not surprised it was! the food was top notch in every sense.
It was Tuesday Thai night and the food was delicious.....curry was at the hottest we'd have wanted & a guide on the menu for the spiciness level might be an idea
Shortened covid menu but no problem a reasonable choice of main. Desserts a little disappointing but overall fine.
Food excellent. Portions better than when we have eaten here in the past. Bar and wait staff very good. CV19 layout very good. Wood burner on and very atmospheric old pub. Car park full on arrival, but cars parked outside lines didn’t help. Will return.
Not overwhelmed by the food sadly. The choice on the menu was limited, the Sunday Chicken roast could only be served for two people, the nutroast was inedible (3 of us had it and all hated the taste - worst out of many many many we've had at lots of other pubs). Shame, otherwise a nice venue and generally enthusiastic staff.
As always - the dishes ordered were exceptional, fresh and beautifully presented!
Service swift and in an atmosphere were safety was / is a prime concern.
The warm welcome on arrival assured us that we had made the right choice. The restaurant is lovely - very calm and relaxing with candles and soft lighting. The food was excellent and the service friendly and attentive. We’ve found a gem and will definitely return.
Absolutely wonderful- great food, service and atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
After having eaten here recently with fabulous food I invited a friend to meet here for lunch today.
The menu appeared to have changed and consisted of a selection of standard pub dishes and two fixed prices set menu dishes.
My friend is a pescatarian and we ordered a fish dish from the set menu (we didn’t want starter or dessert but were told we’d have to pay the full price)
The food arrived and looked promising but both portions of fish were undercooked to the point of being inedible. We asked the waitress (who later told us she was the manager) to rectify the situation and to my astonishment she returned from the kitchen to deliver the message that the chef disagreed the fish was not cooked. At this point we considered leaving and going elsewhere (I wish we had) but after quite a battle the manager agreed to ask the chef to xoxo two new portions and offered a tiny complimentary portion of either bread or olives.
Whilst the second serving of fish arrived properly cooked and of food standard, we had to request a replacement of our side order of vegetables.
When the bill arrived we hoped there would be some monetary compensation but the bill was full price.
The entire episode was totally unacceptable and I never intend eating in this pub again.
Awesome burgers!!!! Couldn’t quite fit in an alcoholic shake. Next time! Very well set up for these times (temperature checks, clear signage, sanitizer etc). But also felt very welcoming and ‘normal’ when eating. Can’t wait to go back (soon!)
The Abergavenny never fails to please especially for a Sunday roast. Go and try it for yourself you won't be disappointed.
A nice hearty Sunday lunch. Excellent meat. Vegetables a little ordinary but fine. Nice log fire.
We booked a table very last minute and didnt expect too much as they still had space. We were wrong! As soon as we walked in, there was a lovely atmosphere, the lighting was just right with candles flickering and guests spaced out in a nice way making it still feel atmospheric and cosy. The service was good and attentive. And to top it all the food was delicious, would recommend highly. We will be back for the cote de boeuf which looked delicious! We are so pleased at our newly discovered foody pub. Thank you
Great food, great service and trying there best to keep the atmosphere positive during these strange Covid times. We were met with a smile, everything on the menu was available and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We will certainly be returning soon.
We had a great dinner following a country walk near tunbridge wells. Covid checks were thorough and distancing good. The menu was clear and varied and the staff were very attentive. Food was excellent with swift delivery and generous portion size.
Very good thank you & will definitely be returning
We went for Sunday Dinner, the food is good however for us was completely spoiled by being served cold. I think the plates they use do nothing to keep the food warm, even the side vegetables were cold. We were a party of 4 and as is usually the case, 2 were served first we politely wait for the next 2, didn't take too long however there was not the appropriate amount of cutlery so that had to be sourced, all adding to the food that was not very warm to start with getting cold. Thankfully our guests were not disappointed, but since we have been a number of times when the food was great, we were disappointed.
