The Alfred Tennyson (fka The Pantechnicon Public House and Dining Room)
The Alfred Tennyson's sumptuous surroundings and elegant interior pay enormous attention to details in every respect. The first floor dining room and board room are available for private hire.View Private Dining Details
Wonderful find in London. Multi-level establishment with pub setting on the ground floor for drinks and nibbles in a classic contemporary architectural space. Dining on the second floor with great pub food and service nothing done to extremes just very well done
Cozy pub with a reliable menu. Very helpful and attentive service
The food was lovely and the atmosphere was what you would expect from a gastropub. The prices were fairly reasonable although the drinks were certainly on the expensive side. Altogether a very nice experience and would recommend for a nice outing with friends or adult family.
Great venue back time and time again
This is our first visit to this pub but not the Cubitt House group. We weren't disappointed.
The service was a little slow to start with, but once acknowledged we had excellent service, food and atmosphere.
We were introducing our 18 year old son to the London's less touristy places that are a must.
We will be back when next in the area.
Sunday roast was phenomenal!!!
It used to be sooo good. The food still delivers for a Sunday roast but for what you pay the value is low. Service is below par. It’s under staffed, no attention to detail and no apology when the first drink arrives only after 25 min after arrival. Wine is good but that is nothing to credit the venue for. The room is beautiful, the atmosphere is nice but full of self-obsessed locals. It will take some time before we return.
One waiter was very rude but other than that, all good.
Great place ......................................
Great food but dinner for 2 incl drinks I admit 280 quid. Off to bibendum.
Overall this was a disappointing experience. We had 2 starters, 2 main course and shared a dessert - and of the five dishes only one, one of the starters, was fully successful. The others were all let downs in different ways. Service was fine at the beginning but deteriorated badly and before the end had become very frustrating and irritating. Prices for what we got were very high. Overall it wasn't a terrible meal, but certainly didn't live up to the restaurant's promise; and due to the high prices for what it is, value is not good. The best thing was the wine list with many wines available in half-litre carafes, and our St Emilion was very nice.
We had Sunday dinner here last week. One of our party has a number of food allergies and the staff did a wonderful job accommodating them. We had two of the lamb roasts, two beef roasts, and a burger. The staff was friendly and we really enjoyed our meals. It was quiet so talking for a party of five was easy. We are upstairs and had really lovely meal.
One of my favourite places to hang out with friends. Nice food, great ambience, and good service!
Had a great time at the Alfred Tennyson, Value for money, Good ambiance and my guests were pleased as well.
Good friendly staff, excellent food and service. Would highly recommend.
We went to the Alfred Tennyson pub to celebrate my birthday on Saturday evening we were so impressed! Lovely Interior within a beautiful building. We had a larger table for the 2 of us which made a change, had amazing tasty food and good wine. Portion sizes were generous. The service was very attentive and the waitresses were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back again.
So nice we dined there twice! If you are looking for a casual, family-friendly yet pubby place for a delicious meal the Alfred Tennyson is an excellent choice. They offered up: delightful dinners, delicious cocktails (plus creative mocktails for our 7-year-old) and solid choices for the beer lovers. We recommend the smoked trout appetizer, bread worth the small fee, the pan-fried hake, Sunday roast dinner, and the fish and chips. Nothing in either meal disappointed. The desserts (apple pie ala mode) were the perfect end to the evening. Prompt, polite wait service and the kitchen & bar were very responsive to all our special requests! A well-above-average pub with a nice atmosphere upstairs for family dining, clubbier downstairs.
Very good food and good services, very pleasure for Christmas
The food at the AT was very good but was let down by the really poor service. We started in the bar where the staff were very friendly and attentive. When we moved upstairs the restaurant, we found the staff completely disengaged and almost arrogant.
It was a Christmas get together for a number of close friends and we told the staff before and during the meal that this was a special occasion for us. At one point, we needed to go and find staff behind a screen as we wanted to order dessert and coffee.
This was a huge disappointment because the food was actually very good. The kitchen staff should be congratulated.
Not been for several years but has gone backwards unfortunately.
This was hands down one of the best evenings (and meals) we have had. The hake was delicious (so many moving parts but they all came together nicely). And the Bramley apple pie is one of the most glorious things I have ever eaten - just the right amount of everything in there.
When I am in the area, the Alfred Tennyson is one of my go-to places - great food, but relaxed atmosphere and service, and never too stuffy. Always a pleasure - looking forward to the next time!
I was really disappointed by the lunch that we had at the AT on Sunday. This has long been a favourite of mine and generally I expect excellent quality for Thomas Cubitt pubs/restaurants, hopefully it was just an off day.
A very good roast lunch coupled with excellent service - great combination.
Atmosfera elegante ma al punto giusto, menù vario e cibo ottimo. Servizio buono.
Sat upstairs by a draughty window on a cold day. Food was good and service OK. There's not much room between tables so a quiet conversation with your dining partner simply won't happen if your neighbours are anything but extremely quiet.
Really poor service. Waiter kept saying it was only his third day which is not an excuse.
Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff, the food is on the expensive side
I've eaten there several times now and it always comes up trumps with good 'easy' style food and very helpful nice waiters and waitresses. Good for date, business meeting (as we were on this occasion), or 'just because'!
They were very accommodating to make the full English breakfast vegetarian - the mushrooms and tomatoes were well cooked and enjoyed having avocado on the side.
The dining room was OK but lacked atmosphere. I think the service we received was OK but not outstanding. There was a huge party dining there, obviously celebrating something (we think it was a wedding). The staff were really stretched as for most of the evening there were only two for the whole floor. The food was very good but we felt that their wine prices were extortionate for what they were. We are used to high mark ups but felt that these were a step too far.
It was a very mixed experience. I really much appreciated haveing a table booked downstairs after the agreed time. The food was really tasty and good but was very let down by the service. Considering that a standard 12.5% service charge was added we needed to order and collect our drinks from the bar, go to the bar to request our bill and then go back again and pay for it. This is more akin to bars with table numbers with an order at bar service.
Fun evening with very good for and service. It was pouring with rain outside and the restaurant on the first floor was cosy and comfortable. Good selection of "comfort food" too.
Really enjoyable gastro-fare with a touch of class in a comfortable environment. Excellent friendly service. When we were there it was enjoyably quiet. Tasty quality cooking.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Great service and delicious food. Unpretentious and comfortable. We will certainly return and recommend to friends.
The noise and vibration of the fan on the first floor puts me off from going again
It is nicely decorated, the food is good , and our gentleman server was great. I would go here again.
Had lunch with 4 great friends. Fab food, great service, good value. Would definitely recommend.
A bit too pricey, particularly considering portion sizes. However, service was warm and friendly and we were able to stay at our table for a very long time without being asked to wrap up. Thank you.
We dined at the AT last Sunday at 1.30pm. The first floor dining room was very busy but the service was slow and chaotic which is a shame as we have always been very impressed with this. A few more staff were needed and if I had known this beforehand I would have chosen a different restaurant.
The food quality was very good as always though.
Delicious Sunday roast with all the traditional accompaniments. Beef was tender and the vegetables tasted stunning. The gravy was a highlight. Service was friendly and welcoming. A very nice and pleasant experience, will be back for sure.
