The American Hotel
Of course, The American Hotel is more than just a hotel, it houses an excellent restaurant as well. There are multiple dining areas depending on what kind of experience guests are looking for. The Main Dining Room is a lively and rambunctious room that holds about 80 people while the Drew Room is a quieter, more private area for those looking for an intimate evening. The food is quintessential American cuisine from across the United States.

One of my absolute favorite restaurants. Fantastic food, service and ambiance every time!
Despite the cold temps on the porch, the warmth of the staff and the delicious food made for a great bday dinner for my husband.
This is not the first time that I’ve had dined at the American Hotel, how ever it is the first time that I got the OpenTable information sent to me
Our Server Dennis was very informative professional caring and delightful we had an amazing evening
Very well prepared sole meunière and grilled salmon. Lovely porch seating. Attentive service.
Fantastic food, service, ambiance! Would definitely recommend.
It was such a perfect experience in every way! The weather was beautiful, so we were able to sit in the back garden. The service was impeccable. We went for brunch, and shared several appetizers, the smoked rainbow trout NEVER disappoints, the chilled half lobster, shrimp cocktail, and oysters were so good!
The dinner was the best dinner I have had in years and the best food on the east end
Will be back again and look forward to a wonderful experience again
Lovely lunch. Delicious food. Although-Slow service. Only one waiter on a Sunday afternoon.
We love this restaurant. Our meal was exceptional! Halibut with lobster sauce surrounded by diced tomatoes, Brussel sprouts! It was the evening’s special. All four of us had it and we were thrilled!
Service was lovely. Good old fashioned ambience with carpeted room and low ceilings...ie less noise!
Service was atrocious!!! Server stood there with our entrees waiting for our appetizers to be cleared! Water never refilled, just felt like we were being ignored. They made up for it on the end by offering us two glasses of champagne for our anniversary. Too many other great restaurants in the area but I would stop in for a drink at the beautiful charming bar .
Great atmosphere with live music and good food! It doesn't get better than that!
Excellent food!! Enjoyed our dinner and willdefinitely come back.
My husband and I have gone to the American Hotel for years and have generally been pleased with our experience there. However, when I took a friend there for lunch recently, I was so surprised by the poor service, the haughty attitude of the servers and the less than delicious food that I would have to think twice before returning. American Hotel, you need to get your act together!
We have been to coming to The American Hotel for many years and always enjoy a lovely dinner here.
Always a delight. Food and service is always excellent!
Amazing food and service! Def will be going back.
Service, food were great. It was a little cold in the restaurant but did not deter from the meal. Would recommend to others.
Second worst service I’ve experienced in the USA
The wonderful history and ambiance of The American Hotel are difficult to equal but beyond this, the chef and staff are in the top class of excellence. Each dish was both beautifully presented and scrumptious to enjoy. We had not been back for many years but will certainly return sooner.
Always a favorite, the American Hotel never disappoints.
Best pork chop I ever ate! Service is top notch and piano player makes it very special.
Delicious food and great service
Always a pleasant experience...
A true classic that never disappoints!
One of the classics eating spots of our time with one of the best wine lists (albeit expensive) I ever seen.
Not our first visit, and we forgot how good this place is! We sat in the bar room and enjoyed the happy atmosphere. Service is always great and food excellent. Best crab cakes!
We love the American Hotel!! Great service, delicious food and wonderful ambiance.
Great New Year’s Day celebration!
You cannot visit Sag Harbor without visiting this wonderful spot--a favorite of all of us who call the Hamptons home. The food is classic and consistently good. As clubby as the place is--and it is the reason Sag Harbor became the mecca it is--you will feel completely at home here in this wonderful intimate restaurant.
Excellent food, pretty setting with nice service
we always enjoy dining at AH whether it be lunch, dinner or a bite at the bar ... and, especially on the outdoor porch, when weather permits!! the restaurant has a nice, warm, inviting atmosphere. this visit we had lunch in the atrium. our waitress was friendly and attentive, as was the bus staff. i ordered the crab cake which was very good, although i, personally, don't care for the english muffin bun. hubby enjoyed his lobster salad also. we'll certainly be back. thank you!!
The crab cakes were so delicious. Mostly crabmeat, little or no fillers, coated with panko. Excellent. Atmosphere is beautiful and cozy. Prices are a bit high, but the restaurant is in Sag Harbor.
Excellent as always.
We had a lovely table by the fireplace, very comfortable and cozy. Love it this time of year and make sure we come during the holidays. The food was excellent. The filet mignon was cook to perfection. The flounder meunière was delicious, as was the the sea scallop risotto. Service is always top notch. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
Wonderful place to celebrate an anniversary!
It’s always wonderful every tine we visit sag harbor we eat here.
From the welcome greeting to the departure, a joy to behold. The best menu (by miles) in the Hamptons, superbly executed and service that is beyond compare. By far the most comprehensive and reasonable wine list in the Hamptons. The staff is warm and exacting, and we have loved this spot for 30 plus years.
We like the American Hotel but it is ridiculously expensive, even for the Hamptons. Our dinner was good, and the service is excellent, but it's hard not to feel ripped off by the prices -- $59 for rack of lamb, for instance, or $25 for maybe 8 truly tiny escargots which were not particularly special. I think we will confine our visits here to brunch or lunch which doesn't leave you feeling you've been overcharged. That said, for a special occasion, it's a lovely spot and it was very crowded on a Friday night after Thanksgiving so obviously the cost is not keeping people away.
