Excellent service, food and ambience. Good welcome and much improved Covid19 provisions.
Great service in difficult times. Staff very accommodating! Thank you!
Good Afternoon MartinL! We are so pleased that you have enjoyed your time with us, I will pass on your lovely comments to the team! We hope to see you again real soon! Kind regards, The Anchor
Unfortunately the food wasn’t great. We were lucky to be in the sunshine which helped, but we had the chicken wings, monkfish scampi both were average - wings were tiny and scampi was only 6 small pieces in the portion. The patron peppers were not cooked properly so we’re still crunchy. Shame as we were so pleased that they were back open.
Friendly service and it felt very well organised and safe. good food and a lovely view
Gorgeous food, apart from the veg needed a bit of extra cooking/was quite hard to cut into and the cauliflower cheese sauce and gravy was a bit too watery - but everything else was really tasty and overall good.
Lovely, friendly service too and fantastic setting by the river.
Have had their fish and chips before and wow, absolutely right up there with the best!!
Fantastic meal, very COVID cautious (in a good way!) and lovely staff.
Food was nice, but was very overpriced for pub grub. There was a very loud table beside us and staff were very kind and helpful allowing us to move to a quieter area.
Good Afternoon! We are so pleased that you had enjoyed your food, we are currently running a 50% off food and soft drinks option on Monday-Wednesday throughout September and we hope to see you again soon! We will always try our hardest to accommodate any requests you may have and we are very proud of our kind and helpful team members. Thank you for your review! Kind regards, The Anchor
Absolutely delicious food and enjoyable “show” outside - watching all the punters hire their boats
No Ale, run out of Guinness asked for G&T was served orange gin
The service was terrible. I had ordered a coke that was flat. Ask for a new one and it took forever to come. My husband had a beer on request for a second beer it never arrived. Food was below average. Not child friendly. We asked for a high chair when booking so the pub should of known we had a child with us. But still sat us up the highest point in the pub having to carry the pram up the stairs. The highchair we was given was full off food. Luckily i had my own anti bac wipes to clean it and the wipe after wiping it down was black with dirt..there was no kids drinks available like a juice or friut shoot.. Definitely Wouldn't return.
Lovely meal in a characterful setting by the river.
We’ve rated the food fair but we did t actually eat, the review form wouldn’t let us move on unless we reviewed the food. So I think the pub had just reopened the day before we visited. Good COVID practices in place. Friendly staff. Sadly services was just really slow but I’m putting that down to the fact they’ve just reopened and they’re still trying to find their feet
Good Afternoon! Thank you for your review, we are still in the process of finding our flow in these COVID pandemic times but we appreciate your patience with us and assure you that upon your return, our service will have returned to its exemplary standard! Kind regards, The Anchor
Service was excellent and very kind adapting to our needs in the rain! Food was tasty, both had fish and chips. Just wish there were a few more peas for the price !
Setting was lovely - great spot outside by the river. Staff were attentive, welcoming and social distancing measures were firmly in place. The food was okay. We went when it was the eat out to help out, so pricing was reasonable. We thought the full prices were a little excessive for what you got. When we are next in Cambridge, we will definitely go back for a drink along the river.
Really friendly and inviting place, but the delicious-sounding buttermilk chicken burger was a rather small fillet on a dry bun served with lukewarm chips at £14. To be fair, the chicken was delicious but the price point is all wrong for what you get. Had it been one of those deliciously overproduced and generous meals served at the right temperature, I would’ve been happy to pay that (or a little more) but it was basic pub grub and gastropub prices where other places do it better and cheaper. Its been over 20 years and I enjoyed my visit to The Anchor, but I would be a fool to go back.
The food was hit and miss. My chicken burger was excellent but my son’s fish and chips was soggy. My husband’s chicken was okay. Our waiter was nice but he forgot to bring ketchup after we asked, we were served veggie sticks when we ordered fish fingers for the toddler, which apparently didn’t exist, and we were billed twice as much as we should have been but that was rectified when I pointed it out. The view was nice and the atmosphere good. If it wasn’t for the eat out to help out scheme, it would have been too expensive for what it was. There are probably better places to eat in Cambridge, for the money.
Nice pub food, a great location with views over the water and surrounded by history.
Loved the pink Floyd connection.
The pub was very busy as it was the Cambridge half marathon but the staff were friendly and tried their best to keep up with all the orders!
A nice pub. However took a very long time to receive our food. And the quality of food has dropped in the last year. Nachos had too many chips for the tiny amount of salsa and cheese.
Only for a drink!!!
Our waiter tried so hard but unfortunately they had very little available on the menu and burgers were not good. All bread was stale.
Beautiful setting however and the venue has wonderful charm!
Fantastic food! Everything we had on the menu was presented to a really high standard.
Was lovely, food was perfect although I wasn’t much into desert - just personal preference though. All and all a great place
Food came quickly and was excellent
Always have a great time here. Food excellent. Service and atmosphere always good. Lovely selection of wines too.
Fast and friendly service.
Fabulous family day and good and drinks together with the service was just perfect for the festive season.
Great to find a pub that sold a vegetarian Sunday lunch! And a very nice Sunday lunch too.
Great food, atmosphere and seating as always. Would highly recommend.
Good food at a reasonable price and excellent and thoughtful service.
Poor experience. Errors made twice with an order, some food served not hot. Very unfortunate, this place is trading off of its reputation and location rather than the quality of its food and drink.
Staff were very good ( Federico ) the food ok but could of been better . Wine list very good
The place near by the river is really nice.. The food and the whole service was very professional! I would recommend it and I will book a table again!
Can’t think of a more beautiful setting to eat and drink in the sunshine as we did on Thursday.
Food, service and ambience were great in the upstairs restaurant area. They were able to accommodate us, even thought we're were an hour late, we did phone to let them know and they made us feel it wasn't a problem. Really had a nice meal and a fab location over looking the river Cam, although sadly one of the windows was covered up with boarding, which spoilt the view slightly, but we had a nice time regardless.
We booked a table in advance as this pub is in a good location next to the river. First impressions weren't good as the exterior looks tatty and is covered in peeling paintwork. The interior isn't much better. We had arrived early but the upstairs dining room was closed and staff were very vague about when and where a table would be ready. We decided to sit outside until a table was available and ordered a bottle of French Chardonnay for £28. It wasn't chilled and the cooler was full of water not ice. We had to ask for ice and add ice to the wine we had already poured. That is simply not acceptable. We chose nachos to share as a starter and they arrived drowned in orange squirty cheese as did our dried up burgers. I wouldn't have thought it was too difficult to use 'real cheese' and a salad garnish would be nice! My son's fish and chips was slightly better although the skin hadn't been removed. Unfortunately the location of this place in no way makes up for the overall experience. A lot of work needs to be done all round!
Good food, good wine, mediocre service and terrible loos!
Prime location on the river with punt hire nextdoor so you'd at least expect a seat on the ladies loo! Not a good example for the tourists!
Just look out for the optional service charge. Otherwise all was great
After booking a table over a day in advance, we arrived expecting to have a lovely meal by the river. Since their website said "if you'd like to sit outside and eat then just ask when you turn up", so I did, and after much confusion as to why we'd want to sit outside on such a nice day, and being told we wouldn't "have the same experience or service", we went to order at the bar, but being greeted with "just to let you know, we don't have any hot food tonight" we decided to leave. Surely this is the exact purpose of giving the restaurant our phone number so that we can be called to be told they don't have any hot food? Disasterouse. Very disappointed.
A lovely Father’s Day celebration with a delicious roast dinner and very good service.
I would highly recommend it.
Had the loveliest meal here. There wasn’t a scrap of food left, all plates literally licked clean by us and the children. Will definitely be back. Service was great too, really friendly.
