The Angel at Burford
Simplicity and quality are top of our "must have' list here at The Angel. We source our ingredients locally, make full use of seasonal produce and never compromise on standards.
Our menu aims to provide an exceptional standard of food that you can enjoy in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. You will find a mixture of pub classics, seasonal specials, lighter bites and dishes with that little bit extra.
Birthday treat. It was jazz night too - a bonus for me. We were offered a table in the back room but opted for one near the band. Service timing was good and we opted for a break before the pudding. Nice touch to get a glass of fizz on arrival for my birthday. I had the salmon roulade and my husband had the pate. My husband had smoked haddock and I had lamb (pink) for the main course. My husband finished with cherry bakewell. Our second visit. My husband dropped me off and parked in the car park at the bottom of the road.
Unfortuanely we were three old friends meeting up after a year for a catch up.Did not realise there would be a jaz band on that night. The music was great although made it a bit difficult to talk. The food and service was good.
Nothing diasterous with this lunch, it just wasn't special. We eat out most Sundays and are always looking for somewhere new. The Angel came recommended and indeed the menu looked OK.
It's quite expensive for what it is. A pretty cramped table in a pub bar.
Service OK. Quite friendly.
However, beef was topside and a tough. Roast potatoes not the best. Gravy was great. Hake was extremely dry. Treacle sponge and custard on the specials board should have been a treat, but in reality was poor. The sponge was heavy and not really treacly enough and the custard was strangely lumpy.
Probably won't be going back.
Surprised and satisfied.
Great food and great service. Everyone in our party of 7 really enjoyed their meals.
The visit was pleasant, food was very good and my rating would have been higher but it was spoiled by the very bitter tasting coffee at the end of the meal. This was echoed by the people sitting on the table next to us.
Excellent food and service, and accomated our needs with our dog.
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner for two. Food was delicious, good atmosphere and great service. A very pleasant evening. Fully recommend.
Go for a pint/drinks and bar snacks and the fantastic atmosphere
The food is average. Stick with the pub staples.
But again the atmosphere, the quality drinks and the really lovely staff are wonderful.
Great menu, plenty of choice plus daily specials, delicious gourmet freshly prepared food at great prices, staff were so friendly and attentive, made the experience even better. The front of the pub can be a squeeze as the tables are quite close but it’s so cosy and comfy that it wasn’t an issue for us.
My three sisters and I had a lovely lunch at The Angel, the food and the service were perfect. We have been there many times and will certainly be going back in the future.
Met up with friends from Reading and Birmingham. I drove from Wiltshire. Had a lovely meal and the service was excellent. Not so noisy as last time we met there which was good as we could catch up on each other's news. Thank-you for a lovely lunch everyone at the angel. We'll be coming again in September/October
Staff were friendly. Menu was good. Food was good.
Just overpriced for pub food.
It is a nice pub / restaurant and we had fond memories of it from when we lived in the area. I was disappointed when we came for lunch on 23 April. The very friendly waitress was rushed off her feet and so service was not the best. We were waiting at the bar for five minutes when we arrived. The vegetarian options were unimaginative and limited. Sorry, not the best experience.
Fabulous food, great little garden, stacks of character!
Nice location and nice décor. Good selection of ales and nice menu choices. Was a bit surprised to see dogs were allowed in the indoor dining area although the dog in question was well behaved and no bother. Returned a couple of days later in the day time and used the beer garden at the rear which was a pleasant outside space.
Perfect meal for my mum's birthday after she and my dad stopped here a few years ago and it didn't disappoint again. Outstanding food, perfectly presented and delicious, lovely warm customer service and nice ambience. Definitely would recommend it and be back again in the future!
Lovely staff. Great food. We will be back later this week
Great breakfast, great ingredients - service was good but staff should be more aware of how their conversation can be heard by customers.
Although the restaurant/pub is well decorated, the toilets were not good, water all over the floor, items hanging off the wall.
Overall I would definitely recommend breakfast here, just a couple of things for improvement - staff training and toilets.
Wanted to visit here for a while parking bit great as you have to use the public car park 5 minutes away and it was raining. However the food made up for it . Smaller bar area than I thought but the log fire made it cosy and warm just what we needed on a cold wet day.
Lovely meal, food all fresh and prepared inhouse, my only complaint was the fish that my wife and I had in the fact that there was only one piece of fish, hence a bit on the small side! Other than that an excellent meal.
Good food, good beer, good accommodation - what's not to like?
Nice location, food and staff, but being packed in like sardines made for uncomfortable dining. We left earlier than we normally would have.
all our meals were very tasty, presented well and very tasty, lovely ambience with open fire and pleasant staff
I ordered veggie, but if you don't like risotto, you were stuck. Portion was very small for the price and I was still hungry so had two desserts - but they were disappointing and small. The Black Forest cake was stale - £7, are you kidding me? Overall, too expensive for what it was. Waiting staff were great though, as was the setting.
Usual great meal and service
How lovely to find a dog friendly pub, our dog was greeted with a bowl of water, nice touch! Super friendly staff, lovely food and great pub all round, definitely recommend and will visit again!
Very good friendly host who made us feel welcomed and as we were in a hurry our meal was presented in quick time by very pleasant staff. When travelling through Buford again we will definitely be back to see you
Birthday Sunday lunch, absolutely perfect.
Always a pleasure to stop here for a drink or a meal: friendly service; lovely, old pub; good food.
Both meals ie the fish and chips and the cheese burger were disappointing.
Pleasant staff who have the right balance between great service and allowing you time to relax and enjoy. We chose fish and chips and from the Special Board ribeye steak. Food was excellent, delicious, plentiful and value for money. Will definitely return and highly recommend.
An old world Cotswold pub with a good atmosphere. Menu is not large, but enough and although eating here is not cheap it is not overly expensive given the quality of food which is very good. Wine and drinks list should satisfy most people. Have eaten here three times and the service has always been excellent, will undoubtedly return.
Excellent food and service. Lovely location. Great menu choice
Lovely pub just off the high street. The noise in the main bar was quite high but we asked to sit in a room behind the bar which was much quieter. The food was very nice and we'll cooked. Would certainly go back if in the area
Traditional cosy pub atmosphere dog friendly nice bar. Lunch was £80 for two steak fries and ice cream dessert and a glass of wine. Thought that rather expensive for a pub lunch. Service very good though
Food was good as well as plentiful, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We were made to feel really welcome and all at a reasonable price
Good dinner, good service. Hard chairs. Good dinner date.
Tables are much to close together. Really impersonal. However, the food was perfect. Need to tweak the seating before I would return.
food was great quality and a good amount. Is a lovley place to be at just felt a little cramped where we were sat in the front of the pub rather than the resturant. When I asked if we could move we were told he had to check bookings, no one else came in to eat and there were plenty of free tables. He didn't even come back to tell us.
overall its a lovley place to eat and we would come back.
