Set on the South Bank, moments from world-famous London attractions like the IMAX, London Eye and Royal Festival Hall, The Archduke restaurant and wine bar is a local landmark in itself, set in to the old railway arches surrounding Waterloo Station. The first London restaurant to open in this area, The Archduke has gone through several incarnations since 1979 but is still as fresh as ever with sleek, simple furniture set against the old bare brick walls and contemporary glass frontage. Jazz music gently floats through speakers, performed six nights a week live in the bar, as diners indulge in comforting modern European cuisine including excellent steaks (it’s owned by the steakhouse Black and Blue group) and simple roast chicken served with your choice of sides dishes. The view of the London Eye from the terrace is spectacular and worth lingering over.

The staff were pretty poor. We needed to call them to our table every time we needed service. At one point my colleague actually asked if serving us was in fact disturbing and inconveniencing the staff.

Really enjoyable dinner for Father's Day. Food was lovely and we really enjoy the jazz - one of the main reasons for visiting this restaurant. Shame it finished at 7pm.

We had dinner after a show very relaxed and good atmosphere although a little noisy for me as I seem to have sensitive hearing nowadays . Trains rumbling overhead also. Good food fair price . Drinks a little dear but probably because I had a couple or doubles and a mixer.

It's always a pleasure to eat at the Archduke. We were there for a pre-Festival Hall lunch and the service gave us plenty of time for a leisurely meal.

Seen promptly on arrival. Table server was attentive and engaging. Enjoyed starter - large prawns, nice. Steak - medium- just right. Again good service and attentive to our needs. Nice when pianist arrived around 7pm. Dined here previously, will dine here again

On arrival, I was taken to a window seat in the corner and given a menu, 8 minutes later a waitress asked if I would like a drink. I ordered the drinks and then about 6 minutes later the bottle of wine and water arrived. So, a slow start... It improved after that, the starters were good and decent sized portions - ham terrine and smoked haddock tartlet. My wife and I both had the steak and frites with bearnaise sauce - cooked just how we asked, lovely. We asked to wait a while until the desserts and again they were a good size and delicious. I had the chocolate brownie, which had a slight goo in the middle rather than being dry, which was great. My wife had the cinnamon cheesecake which was very nice too. Overall a lovely place but as we were in the corner beside the window could not really feel the ambience but could hear the pianist when he started. I would go back again.

Other than having to wait a while for someone to serve us, once they had noticed us, service couldn’t have been better. The food, as always, was delicious and the live jazz music a treat. It’s my favourite place in London.

Nice pub with lots of character. Food was great. Waiter could have been a little bit attentive as we needed to pay to catch a train and she spend a long time chatting to a table next to ours without paying attention to us.

Excellent evening, superb food, service and ambience. While it was a little noisy later in the evening, what did I expect from a jazz evening? Staff were friendly, efficient and polite, and appeared to quickly work out that we were not in a rush and there for the evening. Definite return planned

Booked as a part of a Wedding Anniversary celebration for my parents, this wonderful gem of a restaurant turned out to be the perfect start. Located but a stone throw from Waterloo Station but surprisingly free from hustle, my parents were welcomed to a beautiful upstairs alcove window table by immaculate staff and treated with beautiful service, wonderful food and a personal welcome from Paulo and complimentary drinks. Tables were spaced well apart, plenty of friendly staff, menu expansive enough for choice without overloading the senses.
I cannot emphasise how much it meant to have such detailed attention in today's busy world and I am full of gratitude to the staff of this lovely place.

If attending an event on the South Bank, the location of the Archduke cannot be bettered.
The booking process (on line) was smooth, the welcome was warm and the table service especially good
(dishes served simultaneously, quickly and nice & hot).
The fixed price dinner was very good value.
We arrived at 5.30 and left at 7.00, just in time to take our seats at the RFH.
Highly recommended.

All seven of us were very happy with the food we had - it was all delicious and cooked to perfection. The service was friendly and efficient without being intrusive. We did not feel rushed and we had been given a very nice table. The atmosphere was lively and vibrant and the live jazz music was an added bonus. We would love to eat there again and would not hesitate in recommending The Archduke to friends.

Great looking location next to the Southbank centre. We were sat in the window and so great for people watching. The pre-theatre menu meant an affordable meal (for London at least) and the food was very good.

The service is excellent; we arrived before I book time and was still taken straight to the table. One of our party was late but will put under no pressure at all. The food is always good and the steak frites was cooked precisely right.
Due to mix up between ourselves we overpaid the bill but within a few minutes I’d had a call from the manager to sort it out. Really friendly and professional.

Large family gathering - we were originally booked into a large seating booth but the staff very kindly though that might be too cramped for all seven of us, so they offered to prepare a larger, more open table and moved us when it was ready. Very accommodating environment, pianist and double bass player added some easy background jazz whilst we drank, ate and chatted. Good food - slightly small portions - good value though.

Really great aesthetic, just under Waterloo station, very convenient for that area. The food was good (we had steaks) and the staff provide an excellent service. It's a little noisy because of trains nearby but it's not too bothersome (at least it's not music!) I would recommend this place.
