Very conveniently situated by Waterloo, The Arch Duke has a quirky layout, great staff from the moment you are greeted at the door and good food. Jazz playing in the background never intrudes, but helps the atmosphere and eases you into what will be a relaxed, unhurried dining experience.
Once again the Archduke proved to be a great choice. It has a great location, good choices on the menu, a good atmosphere and good service. I would definitely recommend it.
What a find! we were going to a concert at the royal festival hall and wanted to go somewhere nearby to eat first. This place is fantastic, the pre theatre menu was delicious and worth every penny. The deals on drinks were really good too. Great service with really friendly staff. Would recommend in a shot.
We had a great evening at the archduke, the staff were great the food was very good.
A very lively enjoyable place to be.
This was my second visit to The Arch Duke and both times it has been a pleasurable experience. Staff are very attentive and provide a good service, food is great and the atmosphere and ambience is very relaxed. Well worth a visit.
The restaurant is welcoming and the staff efficient and friendly. It felt quite chilly because air conditioning and fans were on.
Prawn cocktail was disappointing . The prawns were tiny and at the bottom of the bowl they were just 'bits' . And I do think the dish could have done with some brown bread ! My husband had sirloin steak which was a good size and I had rib eye . Beautifully tender but I think the meat could have been rested.
Overall , a good experience but as it is quite pricey , we'd only go back for a special occasion .
Have eaten here loads of times and Saturday's experience was awful. Friend's fish tart starter was dry (he said so and we were not charged for it which was good). My Caesar salad was drenched in dressing. His fishcake was pretty dry too. Only after his initial complaint was the service good. Staff seemed unaware that early diners are probably heading for the Southbank Centre, BFI or National Theatre for 7.30 and the service was lackadaisical. Really disappointing. Hope they can retrieve the previous good reputation. Not eating here again for the foreseeable future. Sorry!
Great location. Lively atmosphere. Good food. Fast and friendly service if you’re going to the theatre.
It was disappointing to be stuck away in a corner where we could not properly hear the music.
The 3 course lunch menu is excellent value. good food and good atmosphere. will come again.
We had a lovely meal here to celebrate our daughter's graduation. The food was excellent, the service was excellent and the setting was perfect. Highly recommended!
Really good quality and value pre theatre menu ideal if you are going to something on the Southbank. As a bonus on sunday and monday bottles of wins are half price....what's not to like?
The dining room under the arches is always a pleasant place to be. The staff here are friendly and the service is good. The downside is the food. The vegetarian pie was stodgy and had little taste. Very disappointing!
Food was merely averege but jazz was beyond our expectations, great environment and experience therefore!
Friendly setting in an old hall under the subway bridge
Too much noise is deafening.
Too fast table service between aperitif and starter
Personally I give it a 3 out of 5 stars
In terms of price, it remains expensive
For wine, you are not presented with the bottle before serving
Five of us met for dinner. We had booked a table. It wasn't located in a good place for us, but the restaurant manager found us another table which had to vacate within two hours. This was fine for us as we were going to a concert afterwards.
The food was good, the service was assiduous.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with hearing problems. I have been coming to the Archduke for years and know what to expect. However, noise levels on a busy Saturday evening, combined with the trains passing overhead does make it tricky to hear sometimes.
The food was great, well cooked and well seasoned. The noise level was a bit loud however you could still hear the people you were with.
We really enjoyed the live music and ambiance. The cocktails are also amazing - defintely recommend!
Cocktail menu was brilliant and we had pre-dinner drinks in the conservatory. Really good. Dinner was excellent - although the table was very small for all the food..... steak was cooked as ordered and was very, very good. Overall would recommend and go back again.
Great service, lovely food and wine.
great food, the music was great. the general ambiance is amazing. staff are attentive and helpful.
all the starters we tried were delicious. and the mains are all amazing (been several times!) def a restaurant to have on your to do list!
Very good steak on the pre- theatre menu. Not very large but fine for pre- theatre. Lovely ambience under the old railway arches, friendly staff and quick service which is what you need before a concert/play
Great service and very friendly staff
Perfect for a pre theatre trip
Beautiful setting and affordable drinks. The staff were very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were having a good experience. the only shame is that some of the restaurant tables are too far from the jazz .
lovely food, was completely unrushed and when we wanted things which was wonderful
I really liked this restaurant. The live jazz gives it a great atmosphere. There is a range of food options and price which is great if you have those who are on a tighter budget.
The only thing is that once we ordered the main meal, the service became a lot slower and we had to wait a while to find someone to get the bill... However wasn't a problem as the music was very enjoyable so we didn't mind waiting
Four of us went for dinner at Archduke and everything was disappointing. The gentlemen wanted to treat themselves to T-bone steaks and they did- except they are the thinnest T-bone steaks we have EVER seen and cooked poorly. The sirloin was fatty and gritty. The desserts mediocre at best. What a shame.
Good value pre theatre menu. Steak was delicious. Soup was ok to start but wasn’t hot enough.
Really good service
Waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive, there was about 5 minutes between first plate and the last. The food was luke warm. It was busy but a couple arrived and were squeezed in without a prior booking which added to the rush. We had a concert booking and so had to leave at 7.15. The table was booked for 5.45, our order taken at 6.10 and we only had one course. NOT a good experience altogether. We ate a Cote
Brasserie up the road the night before and it was equally busy but we ate 3 courses in good time, got to the concert on time and it was a much better experience.
Good service and nice food. The building is attractive and quirky. Would go again.
Bad: The food. Asparagus with Egg for starter ordered by 3 - all eggs not runny. Lamb chops medium rare ordered for main - arrived well done. Other mains weren't great despite being simple in nature. Service by staff felt slow and disjointed.
Good: 50% off all bottles of wine. Ambience if you get a table in the top of the arch near the window.
A real shame as we had high hopes as it seemed to be a brassierre styled restaurant.
Amazing food and to top it all off they have my favourite wine that I haven’t seen since New Zealand! The roaring Meg Pinot noir is the best wine in the world!
Me and my boyfriend had a wonderful date night with excellent staff and music. 10/10 would come again
Great location and a nice ambiance. Food not bad value for London . We had the fixed price lunch menu, starters good, steak frites decidedly average. Steak quite chewy, but for the money I guess that’s not a big surprise.
A pleasant atmosphere and very conveniently situated for the south bank and theatre etc; we had a very pleasant and good value lunch of 2 courses for 16 pounds each...
We visit the Archduke regularly for early dinner before events at the South Bank. Food and wine are always good, and the staff are helpful. The atmosphere is informal and relaxed. Would recommend to anyone
Ambiance sympa mais bruyante. Rapport qualité/prix convenable.
Excellent menu with plenty of vegetarian options despite being a steak place. The food was well-prepared and the atmosphere (light jazz music playing from the bar room pianist) made it feel way more expensive than it actually was. The main course was a bit slow to table, maybe intentionally, but we never felt neglected by the service staff; they were really attentive.
This was my second time here and it was great once again. The food was substantial and tasty, and the service was also great. The only downside this time was that my table was in a corner and it was a bit cramped and next to a noisy table. Overall my experience was good and I will come again.
Perfect for pre- or post-theatre dining. The pre-theatre prix fixe is great value and the service is quite good even when busy. Book for 5.30 if you have tickets for a 7.30 performance in one of the nearby venues.
Lovely place and nice surrounding we went on a Sunday so all bottles of wine/processco where half price.
