Superb. Great tastes and ideas in this tasting menu
Excellent tasting menu with really creative flavour combinations.
Nice atmosphere (except for the music), v good service, excellent food. Had the 6 course tasting menu, highly recommended.
We did the vegetarian tasting menu. Two dishes, the mushroom Linguini and the blue cheese panna cotta, blew us away.
Lunch tasting menu with wine flight was totally delicious- great flavours and interesting wines. Service is excellent, can’t wait to go again !
Tasting menu outstanding accompanied by delicious wines with each course. Service was very good with a personal touch for the occasion.
It’s great to see The Artichoke surviving these difficult Covid times. The service (even behind the visors) is high quality and unobtrusive. The food, as ever, is prepared with care and tastes great (I recommend the courgette flower starter). It’s a step above all other restaurants within 10 miles. Highly recommended.
It was a very enjoyable celebration lunch.Staff were welcoming&attentive. Food was excellent
We had a fantastic evening at The Artichoke. The atmosphere, despite Covid restrictions, was warming, welcoming and friendly. The restaurant was busy (in a safe way!) and there was a really good buzz. The staff were really attentive without being over the top and we felt very looked after the entire night. We all had the 8 course tasting menu with wine flight and it was amazing from start to finish. It was our first experience in a Michelin star restaurant and it didn't disappoint! However, there was no sense of snobbery or stuffiness about the experience; it was relaxing, fun and delicious! We didn't feel rushed either and spent a wonderful three hours or so enjoying the fantastic food and wine provided to us. We will definitely back again in the future and we'd recommend anyone to give it a go!
Wonderful evening. Superb food and service. Will be back ..,,
Seasonal ingredients used skillfully to create an interesting and delicious meal. Lunch menu astoundingly good value. Service great too
The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at the Artichoke. The tasting menu was quite good but I’d say the portions were probably the smallest we’ve ever seen on a tasting menu. The wine flight was excellent but overall we felt the drinks were very expensive. To be honest, at over £85 including drink per head for lunch you’d find better value elsewhere.
We enjoyed an excellent lunch in Covid safe surroundings. All the staff were wearing visors and the whole set up had clearly been carefully thought through. The food and service were excellent!!
Excellent food, superb quality and impeccable service, great for a special occasion
First visit to artichoke and was not disappointed. Service was first class, attentive and not overpowering. The 8 course taster menu was a delight on the taste buds. Couldn't pick a favourite as they were all delicious! Will be back...………...
Been here often. Always outstanding, and didn't disappoint this trip. Will be back.
Good to have them back and food still the same overall high standard. May be worth going for an earlier slot to avoid the upstairs room.
Going to the Artichoke is better than visiting an art gallery.
It touches all the senses and you can eat it.
First you look, then you smell, then you taste.
All pure pleasure.
Well done to the Artichoke artists
We come away well satisfied
Excellent as always. A superb experience even in these difficult times....
Couldn't wait to get back to this stunning restaurant. They made us feel very welcome and safe. The food was to die for.
Amazing food and service as always. Such a fantastic restaurant although we spent a small fortune! Love it here though and we feel so lucky to have this gem of a restaurant on our doorstep. My only disappointment was to see foie gras on the menu, totally unnecessary to use cruel ingredients when the chefs here make everything taste delicious without the need for this.
This was a Birthday Dinner for my wife and we were initially seated on a bench by reception side by side by an open door, which wasn't how we'd envisaged our meal together. We asked to move and without any fuss we were relocated upstairs to a 2 person table, which was better. The only downside was that there was a large table of 10 people who were very loud in an enclosed area, so it was difficult to hear each other talk. However, the food and service was amazing. We had the 8 course meal with wine flight and enjoyed it all. It was our second visit and first since the restaurant gained a Michelin star. Definitely recommend and will visit again.
High quality food that was well presented and served by a friendly waiting staff. The vegetarian menu had a good variety and was just as interesting and well served as the meat alternative. Overall an enjoyable experience that exceeded our expectations.
Great food and atmosphere, the wine pairing was very good too with an interesting selection of wine, including one from India.
Even with the new restaurant restrictions The Artichoke still manages to deliver a first class dining experience. Food excellent as always. Service impeccable as always. What’s not to like. So glad to support my most favourite restaurant.
Very good food and service ruined by having to share a small upstairs"overflow" dining room ( 12 covers) with a family table of 6 who were excessively noisy. The room did not have the same ambiance as the main restaurant being "cafe" in style but more disappointing was that management chose to accept a booking for a table of 6 alongside 3 tables occupied by couples. At the very least the other diners should have been told when making the booking but in any case you do not expect this kind of table arrangement in a Michelin starred restaurant and at these prices.
Be sure to ask for a table downstairs.
Enjoyable, relaxed, very attentive and Proffessional in CV times. Food excellent. Tasting menu with paired wines amazing. Will return again soon. Thank you. Colin
It was splendid to be back and the food and service remain wonderful. However, ambience was lost by our being placed in the original area of the restaurant, although we appreciate that this carried with it increased safety from infection.
Very enjoyable evening. It is great for special occasions, it was our wedding annuversary
Loved it. Our favourite place to celebrate special occasions. Happy they’re back in action.
Yet again another amazing meal here. We’re lucky to have the Artichoke on our doorstep.
Friends 50th - exquisite tasting menu. Loved every single mouthful especially poussin course
Welcome back, after a forced Covid interlude. Food, service, ambience.... in fact everything superb
Food is always perfect and delicious. Armisohere calm and peaceful. Live eating here.
Really pleased to see The Artichoke back open. Great food as ever and our family had a wonderful experience again. Most moderate of constructive criticisms would be to bring back pancetta rolls (in addition to current offering) and to go back to original petit fours with coffee at end (churros great and could be a dessert on their own). Will be back!
Outstanding meal in all respects, catered well for my Coeliac dietary needs
Wonderful to be back at our favourite local restaurant. Some exquisite dishes, and impressive Covid security.
Went for wedding anniversary lunch. Restaurant had just reopened after lockdown. Both had the 6 course tasting menu and one wine flight. Delicious food and wine. Nicely presented. Did not feel rushed. Would definitely go again
Have had many visits including our wedding anniversaries since 2004. This was our first disappointment. We were seated alone in the upper room. We chose the tasting menu and were immediately informed that the listed turbot was no longer available. Instead plaice was served with the same sauce. One of us chose the lamb which was poor and the sweetbreads were tasteless. Generally the food was not interesting. The two desserts were the best items; but why two? We voiced our complaints and the staff seemed embarrassed. We were offered a table in the main part of the restaurant halfway through the meal but we were not inclined to move at that stage. From our previous experience we were pleased that a Michelin star had been awarded. On this occasion the Artichoke fell well below that standard.
The Artichoke is rated 4.7 stars by 1622 OpenTable diners.
Yes, you can generally book this restaurant by choosing the date, time and party size on OpenTable. Due to local restrictions, this restaurant may not be accepting bookings at the moment.
