Third visit in last three years and the food is getting better and better. Really enjoyed the wine flight to accompany the 6-course menu which was well matched and introduced some interesting wines. Point to note - the building is old and full of character but that does mean it has a narrow staircase. As I am currently in crutches, I called ahead and they secured a table on the ground floor - with loads of leg room. Great service all round.
An outstanding experience for my girlfriend and me. We enjoyed the sumptuous courses that were so well presented by their well-informed and polite staff. We both very much look forward to dining at The Artichoke again.
Laurie has a wonderful restaurant. The food and service has gone from strength to strength! Delighted about their Michelin star! We will be back soon.
Possibly the best ever visit to artichoke and a truly memorable lunch
Took my wife here for our anniversary dinner - brilliant friendly service (didn't have to fill our own wine glass once), great atmosphere and amazing food. Favourites were the Chiltern black ale bread with malt vinegar butter, seasonal vegetables with
winter black truffle, lancashire bomb, roasted hazelnuts and the rhubarb and Cambridge cream with shortbread and rhubarb and ginger cocktail on the side. Highly recommend.
Consistently excellent with every course. Cooked beautifully, presented immaculately, eaten with delight. Thank you.
The serving staff were knowledgable and accommodating and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming.
My only small (microscopically) criticism is whether the food could be served a little warmer / hotter - but it was a cold day!
Very enjoyable meal - exceptional service and amazing tasting menu!
The whole experience is class, service superb, food stunning, nothing more to say.
We had the 8 course taster with wine pairings. The food was carefully thought through and presented. The wine parings were on the whole, excellent. The only critique that I had was that the flavour combinations were very much tried and tested, and pretty safe. Nonetheless, a very very enjoyable meal that crescendoed to the main course and finished elegantly with a chocolate tart dessert.
Excellent... fabulous food... excellent service... great wines
Exceeded expectations. Food was very nice and the service was excellent.
Great food, great ambience on Brexit night!
A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience with a good variety of delicious dishes served in a friendly and professional manner - would definitely recommend.
Great dinner tasting menu - fabulous food, great service and wonderful friendly place. Lovely evening to relax and enjoy with my wife - place is thoroughly recommended
This was our first visit to The Artichoke and we both wanted and expected to love it, but there were too many things that didn't quite work for it to live up to the hype. In no particular order: the amuse bouche soup was too cold to even qualify as 'restaurant hot' but no one bothered to check if it was ok; our bottle of wine was slopped, as opposed to poured, into the glasses and the pace was not aligned with the meal so we had mostly finished it before the main course; the pace in the restaurant was frenetic and not conducive to having a relaxed meal; we were given a wine list before being provided with menus and had to ask for the latter; we felt rushed, with the courses appearing almost as soon as we had finished the previous course; the staff were already turning the lights out as we were finishing our meal (note to management; do not take bookings at 8.45 if you want to close before 11). The food was pretty nice, to be fair, but the portions weren't huge and we left hungry.
Outstanding cooking once again from the team at The Artichoke. It is always an absolute pleasure to dine here. Would highly recommend.
Always fabulous, and now at last Michelin has recognised The Artichoke’s greatness!
Fab wine list at multi price points to suit all, and the tasting menu in the evening is incredible value and quality.
I love this place!
Very Good. This is the first time I have eaten at lunchtime, previous dining has always been in the evening.
Felt a bit rushed at the end of the evening as they had a booking after us which we were aware of.
The tasting menu food was first class, the tasting menu did not suit us because we do not usually have sweet dishes and therefore could not select what we wanted - that is not a criticism in any way.
Apart for a little confusion over the coffee order, service and food were flawless
Excellent food, very good service.
Waiters accents were a bit hard to understand when describing each course and its wine, but a very minor point.
The only reservation about the excellent Artichoke is the very limited almost non-existent choice of wines at a "reasonable"price level. Almost without trying you are into £75 a bottle and those are the cheaper wines. Far too hefty for lunchtime.Would love to know their mark-up percentages
Truly special meal ! Worthy of their Michelin star
Great menu and wonderful tastes from each course. Service as ever very friendly and efficient- all in all thoroughly recommended
Beautiful interior. Very friendly staff and a pleasant setting. Being seated upstairs brings down the atmosphere and you feel tucked away. The tasting menu apart from the duck was made for a summers day. Dish after dish was cold, odd and out of the season. Wine pairing was great but again, for a summer’s lunch. Disappointing and could have been so much better. Overpriced for the taste and lack of seasonality but understand you pay for the craftsmanship behind the creations. The newly awarded Michelin star is an achievement considering the disappointing flavours and delivery.
A superb meal. Perfectly balanced courses, in flavour and size, delicious wine and attentive service.
Wonderful restaurant. Our favourite when celebrating something special.
Always impressive experience and great value for money for the high standards you receive
Filling in all the Michelin requirements so could not be faulted , excellent service , perhaps waitress too quick in removing the plates, excellent food , unluckily sitting next to noisy table ... nice attention with happy birthday petits fours !
Would recommend anytime for special occasion or desire for stylish and delicious food.
I can’t really answer the question about value for money as I didn’t pay! However, it was wonderful as always. Huge thanks and Merry Christmas all! Xx
As ever, the Artichoke is inventive, attentive, memorable and about as close to perfection as you’ll ever experience
Fantastic food. Fantastic atmosphere. Great that this is our local!
fantastic food and lovely service. Great place for a wedding anniversary
Every dish was full of flavour with subtle hints and texture. My favourite was the choux bun with truffle. Service excellent!
Artichoke is one of our local, go-to restaurants when we want to push the boat out. We always know it will be a lovely evening. Despite the quality of the food and its well-earned Michelin star, this place is never pretentious. The 6-course tasting menu is wonderful - I've never had the courage to go for the 8-course alternative because I just don't think I'd be able to finish it! The wine flight complements the dishes perfectly. All in all, a fantastic restaurant, delicious food and great service.
Very disappointing. It used to be much better. The dishes are ordinary, some don’t really work. It feels like it is a completely different restaurant compared to 6 months ago. Very expensive for such average and forgettable food.
3rd visit and a real let down. Food was lovely on the set 8 course menu but the wine flyte was so so and one wine was changed without advise from the sommelier. Real problem came when the kitchen finished and we experienced cleaning of utensils, banging around but worst of all was the smell of the cleaning of cooking fat which made our stomachs turn and cling to our clothes and hair. I dont think its unreasonable for staff to wait until diners have left before cleaning the kitchen.....you cannot charge nearly £400 and start cleaning in front of customers.
Excellent experience with the 6 course taster meal and wine flight. Absolutely delicious. Occasionally we struggled to hear what the waiters were explaining for each dish / wine as we were right next to the kitchen, but overall experience was amazing.
Wonderful food with an explosion of taste and fantastic service. A gem of a restaurant
