The Assembly House
Service was fantastic, food was great, love the venue. We were there at the same time as a child’s party and in the high ceiling room it was noisy we had to shout to hear each other, nothing the venue or team could do about that and the kids were having fun but I wonder if there is another area for big parties that could have been used.
Overall highly recommend.
Our only complaint is the tea wasn’t hot enough. Suggest warming the tea pot first.
An enjoyable afternoon, staff were friendly, atmosphere good, food amazing.
We stayed for 2nights excellent service a food and accommodation
A little noisy in restaurant but not bad enough to put us off on returning
Loved our meal plus afternoon tea
We will be back
Good food professionally and politely served. Food arrived in a timely manner given that we were going to the theatre. Decor and atmosphere were very good.
The food was lovely and staff were very attentive. Highly recommend and we hope to return
Lovely afternoon tea. We sat in the main room so the noise was rather loud but the staff were very helpful and the food was amazing.
Went for pre theatre dinner. Service was spot on and quick so at no point did we stress about being late. Food was very tasty. Will definitely go again if we want to eat early before a theatre night.
Lovely room but busy so service was little slow, wedding was on and their guests were wandering about the building and room where we were sitting..thought was themed but wasn't
Beautiful venue with lovely, welcoming staff. I booked for lunch at 2.30 so was surprised that most of the menu was unavailable after 2.00. This meant that there was nothing I could eat but the chef agreed to cook me something off the pre-2 menu. This was good customer service but unfortunately the chips were very much bottom of the pan. The fish, however, was excellent. My companions all said that their meals were superb. A warning when booking on-line about menu timings is a must.
Good food, but lack of choice and would like to see a couple of traditional dishes added to the menu and some lighter dessert choices.
Good wine, but again lack of choice if you don't like dry wines and they had run out of dessert wines!! Why?
Suggested to us by a friend this was a lovely afternoon with great service and food. The afternoon tea had lots of lovely things and there was plenty of it which was great.
What a delight ! Everything about The Assembly House is perfection. Our room was fabulous with luxurious bedding and lovely touches such as fresh milk in the fridge and homemade biscuits and flapjack. Dining was a delight with a fabulous menu and unobtrusive background music giving a wonderful ambience. Breakfast again was fabulous with an extensive menu. Last but not least the staff make the whole experience a complete joy.
Lovely afternoon tea for my daughter and I celebrating her birthday. Lovely fresh selection of sandwiches and canapes and delicious cakes. Great attentive service in a beautiful setting.
Charming setting and uniformed excellent staff. Portions bit small but always good.
If you love afternoon tea, there is only one place to go and thats the Assembly House! Richard Hughes and his team offer a most magnificant afternoon tea and you wont want to eat again later! The food was fabulous and plentiful and we were even asked if we needed a top up on any of the finger sandwiches, scones and cakes! There was a wide range of teas on offer, all served in the traditional way, tea leaves and a tea strainer. The service was acceptional, nothing was too much trouble, it neither slow or rushed, just right. The Assembly House itself is a beautiful buidling set in the heart of Norwich with ample parking.
Such a lovely place for afternoon tea. Food is delicious and plentiful. Freshly cut finger sandwiches with tasty fillings are replensished. Lovely warm cheese toasty bites with tomato relish and buttery cheese straws. Followed by warmed fruit and cheese scones with all the trimmings! Then an excellent selection of sweet treats. Staff are attentive but not overpowering. Venue is beautiful, clean and welcoming. Would highly recommend to others.
Brilliant as always!! I have not had an afternoon tea better anywhere else!
As always food and service A1 waitress very friendly and service very good
I have been a number of times to Assembly House. The only criticism I have is the service for afternoon tea. The first time I went, the waiter was highly attentive to the couple next to us but rather rude to my friend and I. Rather disappointing as it was our joint birthday lunch. The second time it was excellent service. This time it was the same as before. The server was highly attentive to the table next to us but seemed quite put out when we asked for assistance.
Delicious, plentiful afternoon tea in a wonderful building with friendly, impeccable service
But we were disappointed as had been told grilled fish of day was Bass then were told it was salmon which we have a lot. A bit vieux jeu to be honest although steak we went for in the end was nicely cooked
A good pre theatre dining experience in a great setting. Food good and value for money. Unrushed and conscientious service. Definitely do this again
Lovely building. Very atmospheric for pre theatre supper and breakfast. Our bedroom was excellent. Nice touches like fresh milk, good selection of teas and separate coffee machine. Bath/shower room was huge.
We enjoyed our pre theatre meal very much. Service was good and food was good (better than I expected). Never having had a meal there before. Lovely room. Would look forward to going there again. Maybe try afternoon tea next time.
Enjoyed the afternoon with the family...much appreciated
Enjoyed my tea for 2 with my daughter at Assembly House at the weekend. Beautiful place with excellent service and tasty food. Offered extra food and had second fresh tea.
Fantastic Sunday lunch with excellent service from very friendly staff all our needs catered
For nothing too much trouble very busy that says it all.
Ps coming for afternoon tea soon
Me and my daughter attended for the second time, we love an afternoon tea. Both a bit disappointed with the cakes this time, not keen on the toffee crumble and the chocolate tart, very rich. Sandwiches, scones etc lovely.
We were celebrating my belated birthday and it was absolutely lovely. Im gluten free and I love the fact that apart from one item everything is the same as standard menu. I have been paces where you dont get the same and really is not of comparable value!!! The place is also very special to me as we spent some of our wedding day in the dining room and was lovely to show my grandaughter especially as my husband died two years ago
Lovely afternoon tea with my little girl, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and the cakes and sandwiches were delicious. Loved it!
I was entertaining a friend and it was such a pleasure to dine at the Assembly House: the food was delicious, plates hot, portion size just right and the service excellent. The venue was busy but there was no feeling of intrusion into our space by fellow diners so we were able to enjoy our conversation - not to mention the food!
Friendly and professional service complements outstanding food. Couldn’t be more impressed.
I was shocked at the standard of food, lack of taste, dry & boring not to mention how little of it there was! Also got charged an extra 10% which wasn’t mentioned anywhere! An utter rip off, throughly disappointed
Loved it apart from the 10% extra charge that you get told about just before you pay the bill so not expecting an additional £6 on the bill
The menu was perfect for a pre theatre meal. The meal was very tasty and not heavy when you are going to spend the evening sitting in a show.It was lovely and quiet and would give you a chance to enjoy the company of your guest .
We went for a 90th birthday treat. The food was well-presented and was delicious. We couldn’t finish it all but could take a doggy bag which was good! All members of staff were friendly, attentive & helpful & the piano player played beautifully throughout which added to the experience. Would thoroughly recommend it!
Fabulous meal - food was delicious, service and staff were outstanding- will be rebooking for my next pre theatre meal.
We were gifted with afternoon tea so had no idea what to expect. We were not disappointed and enjoyed a lovely tea in pleasant and impressive surroundings.
