The Assembly House
I would very much recommend The Assembly House to a friend and indeed we straight away booked for another Pre-Theatre supper. We have also enjoyed Afternoon Tea and Dinner on other occasions.
Lovely venue for that special someone or something.
The food here is absolutely delicious. All of our 3 courses were cooked to perfection. Have already recommended to loads of my friends.
We all had the pork belly which was dry and lacked flavour. The bread and butter pudding was nice. The lady serving us seemed miserable and didn't ask how our meal was. It was difficult to hear each other above the general noise.
Booked it for my daughter for her birthday. The setting was lovely. The food was lovely, but would of liked another option on the sandwiches as I don't like smoked salmon, but was offered extra egg, which was abit disappointing, but do understand the reasons behind it. Other than that it was lovely.
Lovely afternoon tea. The sandwiches were freshly made. The scones were served warm with a good amount of jam and clotted cream. I really like that there is a cheese scone and a fruit one. We were offered more sandwiches. The sweet treats were varied and tasty. The winner was the bakewell macaron.
I would have liked to have been offered a refill of tea.
All the staff we encountered were friendly and professional.
Certainly one of the best afternoon teas in town. We will be back.
As always, great food, great service. Perfect ambiance.
very nice high tea ( plenty of refills) in a wonderful environment
six stars for the servers, always there when you needed them
would absolutely recommend for that special celebration coming up
or a light dinner b fore the movies
Exceeded our expectations.
Great food and excellent service.
It was nice. Would be better if you could pick the sandwiches you wanted. The toilets are a long way away and it was very noisy . But it was nice for a first time. Not sure how often they change the menu as would like to try new food if I went back.
Fabulous meal with my sister before going to the Theatre Royal
We were bought an afternoon tea for Christmas and it turned out to be a very good experience. Thank you
For our first experience, we really enjoyed our afternoon tea, the waiting staff were very friendly and made sure our 9 month old daughter wasn't left out either. The only bad point I would say is we were squished on a little table and didn't have much room to put our pushchair, and with all the cutlery and plates and whatnot on the table it would have been better if we could have been put on a bigger table as our daughter kept trying to swipe at everything on the table.
Excellent food and service. One of our table needed to leave a little earlier to catch a train and they rushed their meal through which really helped. Lovely staff and a very pretty room to eat in. We'll be back again!
The staff are always friendly abd the food is well presented.
A delightful setting, good service and excellent food which makes it an ideal venue for pre-theatre dining.
We took friends for afternoon tea and it was fantastic. They live in Yorkshire and thought it was the best afternoon tea they had ever had. Through Passport to Norfolk there was a buy one get one free deal which was brilliant. The assistant was very helpful since I did not have my card so she found me on the system which meant I could benefit from the deal. All staff friendly and helpful and we love the ambience of the Assembly House.
The Passport offer made this great value. We enjoyed much of the meal though the aubergine pate should not be served to anyone ever again. It was not pleasant. Cheese scones were yummy but the fruit scones needed more fruit.
Had a lovely afternoon tea, very good service and very helpful staff
Lovely afternoon, fab food and staff could not have done more.
Can’t recommend enough. Food was amazing, and the staff too. Beautiful surroundings.
Really enjoyed our Afternoon Tea here. The place is lovely, the staff are lovely and the food is excellent
My 2nd afternoon tea here, it really is the best! Beautiful surroundings and lovely friendly staff, totally recommend this 😊
Such a fantastic afternoon tea and a lovely touch with the birthday cards
I took my sisters for Brunch, was disappointed we were presented with 'Afternoon Tea' at 11am because they had a special offer on. I had booked for Brunch.
We were then given the breakfast menu, we asked for just one scrambled egg on toast which arrived 15 minutes later covered in salmon, my sister does not eat salmon, however the three Norfolk Rarebit was good.
Very attentive waiter. Prevented a full blown tantrum from my 4 year old by being observant enough to relight the birthday candle that went off without being asked to. Saved me a whole lot of stress and grief. He also brought some bread for my daughter (for free) because all she wanted was to butter her own bread and drink milk despite the delicious afternoon tea.
This was our first visit (lunchtime) to The Assembly House. It certainly is a lovely location, however, having booked a table for 12.30 we were surprised to find that the only menu/info on the table was for afternoon tea. We wanted a hot meal, so I had to go and ask for a 'proper' menu. We were amazed to be the only ones we could see that were not having 'Afternoon Tea'. We were seated near two tables that had young children on them, and the mess under one table was extraordinary, accompanied by much moving of pushchairs, to-ing and fro-ing, so I guess we were unluckly, but it did not make for a relaxing lunch. There was also quite a load general hubbub from other adult customers. We would like to try an evening, which would probably mean no children, and a more extensive choice of hot food.
Myself, my friend and my little boy enjoyed afternoon tea for 2 via the BOGOF offer that was going on. The food is always very filling and delicious
It is hard to get the attention of the waiting staff once food has been served. Even though they say that you can request extra sandwiches, it almost feels such a request is not welcomed. The cakes section is uninteresting and cloyingly sweet, so more savouries would have been welcome.
Lovely afternoon tea, great cakes and the cheese and fruit scones were warm. The service was brilliant and we were given more tea when we asked.
A lovely place to visit and treat yourselves to afternoon tea.
Love it there, so friendly.
The Assembly House at its best .
I like to go for afternoon tea at least once a year.
The best place in Norwich for afternoon tea, at least, plus other great events taking place. Wonderful building, lovely staff, what is there not to like!
Lovely place. Service was excellent. The food was delicious. Sandwiches were fresh, not dry, and the scones were light.
I would definitely go back.
We visited for a pre-theatre dinner on Sunday 2nd June as a party of 7. Excellent service and good value food, just ideal prior to going to the Theatre Royal next door. We would definitely visit again. Trevor Barber.
The food was good but having to pay extra for accompaniments such as potatoes and veg made the meal expensive. Portion sizes modest, ideal for me but not really enough if you have a large appetite. Drinks very expensive.
Our Afternoon Tea was a gift and the experience was very good. The pianist was excellent and added to the whole experience. It is very likely that we will be back for a pre theatre meal very soon. Thank you.
Everything was fantastic, it was my mum's 89th birthday and everything was done to accommodate all of us, down to one gluten free, one who does not like cream. Food was beautiful. Great value for money
Yes of course always good. The only disappointment was that we were unable to have a pre dinner drink in the front because of a very noisy wedding reception - but I guess they all are!!
Was not very happy that I was expecting to pay £42.00 for an afternoon tea for two but was charged more due to a service charge being applied !!
