The Assembly House
Wonderful atmosphere, great food and brilliant staff. Would highly recommend and looking forward to our next visit.
We booked afternoon tea before theatre and arrived early so sat outside and ordered coffee, 15mins later got coffee but no sugar and had to wait for waitress to appear to go and ask for some. Not a good start. Went inside for booked table, ordered food with a request for no butter on sandwiches but when it eventually arrived the sandwiches had butter on. The food itself was very good and filling. We ordered coffee afterwards and my husbands came quite quickly but my order was wrong and waitress took back apologising but unfortunately it took a good 15 minutes to get replacement, all of which detracted from a relaxing meal. It is always the niggly little details that can spoil a pleasant occasion.
Excellent food and great value for money. Pre theatre meal which was completed in good order
As good as ever on a adhoc visit to one of our favourite places to eat.
Lovely afternoon tea but you don't get to choose what sandwiches you would like its all the same which is ashame, The staff weren't overally friendly and had to wait along time to serve us but the food was lovely and very delicious but super expensive! X
We had a lovely pre-theatre anniversary meal recently which was made all the more special by the happy anniversary card that was waiting for us on our table.
Food, service and ambiance all wonderful, thank you so much, we will be back!!
Lovely food and service
Fantastic food and great service, as usual. We have used the Assembly House many times and are always very pleased.
Was a fantastic lunch and we all enjoyed the food and the surroundings
A regular venue for our ladies get together- beautiful, accessible venue, good service, good food, reasonably priced comsideringnvenue and whereabouts and we can hear ourselves chat without being drownzed out by other people or music.
The forth visit this year this time with a friend who was very impressed with her fish platter. The wife and I also enjoyed our meal. Our only adverse comment was that the servings are very big. You will have to offer doggy bags if they become any bigger. Also surprised that your Eaton Mess included ice cream, that's a first. Looking forward to finding an excuse to visit again. Service as always excellent.
Usually choose the Assembly House for an afternoon tea. Food always good. Although, if it is for a special occasion, when they stopped using tablecloths, it became a bit ordinary. Tables are also a bit close.
We were able to sit outside on a wonderful autumn afternoon and enjoy an oustanding afternoon tea which was excellent in all respects. Congratulations and thanks to all concerned.
Unfortunately we found that afternoon tea at the assembly house not very good value for money at all. We decided to go for the classic choice and knew what we would be getting but didn’t enjoy most of it at all and the desserts were not very nice at all. The best part of our afternoon tea was the scones they were lovely. The staff who were serving us at the table were miserable and seemed like they didn’t want to be there so we asked for the bill because we felt very uncomfortable. When we got our bill we found we had been overcharged by quite a bit of money so then had to sort that out before we left. This was booked with my friends for my Birthday so I left feeling bad about taking them there for their first visit but don’t think we will be going back.
Very dissapointed as I initially called to change the time of the reservation and left a/P message for a call back. Call never received. Called again to change time to 16.45. On arrival we were taken through to our table but sat for over half and hour without being spoken too. We only got our afternoon tea when we approached a member of staff and requested it.
Sandwiches were sparse and uninteresting
For £42 thought you hot very little value for money.
Felt as if i was in a cafeteria
A must visit destination for any fine diner. Faultless.
Birthday afternoon tea, was very enjoyable, food and service were very good too would recommend
Food was fab, staff were lovely, had a wonderful time
It was a lovely evening and the food was delicious!
Having never been for lunch at the Assembly House I would definitely visit again and recommend to a friend. The choice was varied and the food was hot and substantial. The noise level was quite noisy, but not intrusive, and, in fact, enabled you to have a private conversation even though you were quite near others.
Definitely recommend to others.
We are so thrilled that we have found The Assembly House. The surroundings are delightful but it had a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff were all very friendly and patient. There was a fantastic selection of delicious food which was beautifully presented. Although we live about an hour away we hope to return again in the not too distant future.
RE: AFTERNOON TEA
Two, hopefully constructive, criticisms.
1. Not told that warm scones would be served after the sandwiches and cakes. Customers not told to
save on scones?
2. Layered cakes rather bland and rather dry.
Hope this helps.
Wonderful food, service, ambiance....and excellent value
This is a lovely setting for a meal but the noise level the night we were there was intolerable. It was almost impossible to hear each other for the echo of others conversations. the food was very good and the portions perfect.
Lovely place, smashing food and drink choices, feel special, all accessible
Fabulous as always - love the themed afternoon teas.
Very pleasant and welcoming staff on arrival. Tea Pots arrived to table promptly, but first course took
a little while to arrive. Scones were requested but did not arrive, and Tea became cold. Scones were re-requested and arrive within 15 mins. Second Pot of Tea, had to wait for. Champagne another long wait for this and not adequately chilled when served. Restaurant quite busy with alternative food
being served and a large Party so quite noisey at times. Sadly no Pianist on our Day which was a
special Birthday celebration. Food fine but portions smaller. A little disappointed.
Fabulous themed afternoon tea. Attentive waitress and very helpful staff. The building is beautiful and well worth a visit. We love it and will definitely return!
The Alice themed afternoon tea was one of the best I've ever had (including the Ritz!) The staff were amazing too. Thank you!
Was my mother’s 80th birthday the staff helped to make it a very special occasion. It was the little touches like the candle in the cake and the birthday card that really were appreciated. Thank you so much for the wonderful food and service. We all had an amazing afternoon.
I booked the themed Alice In Wonderland for myself and my daughter, she is Alice mad and you didn’t disappoint, from the playing cards adoring the ceiling lights to the Drink Me bottle, it was beautifully done, we are looking forward to coming for Halloween, would highly recommend
Overall pleasant experience, 2 seater tables are a bit closed in!
However, will go again.
The starter was not very hot and seemed to have been sitting about for a while. The main (roasted vegetables) was rather chewy and a bit dry, It was very noisy and not especially relaxing because of this. The service was very good.
Superb.... and different treat for my husband’s special birthday. Great attention to detail and the Alice in Wonderland theme. Lovely staff, too.
Love the Assembly House. Such beautiful surroundings, caring staff and beautiful food. Excellent as always!
We had our table booked for 12.00 but our cab let us down and we weren't able to get to you before 12.45 ish. I rang to alert the restaurant staff and the response was excellent - things were shifted around and we were warmly welcomed when we eventually got there and wined and dined well before time to get off to the Theatre Royal for the matinee. Thank you all so very much
We had a wonderful pre theatre meal with you. Food was delivered quickly but was all delicious. Staff were attentive and efficient. The restaurant is beautiful. We were celebrating my granddaughters 21st birthday and my mother's 90th year, so there were 4 generations of us including my daughter. The birthday card for Olivia was a special touch. The Assembly Room suited us all. Thank you, it was a special evening.
A pleasant meal, served by friendly and helpful staff. All in all, a good spot for pre theatre dining though payment took over long and left us hanging around when we wanted to move on to the theatre.
Pre theatre meal excellent and reasonable price
Traditional breakfast excellent, service spot on,
bed large and very comfortable, bathroom and all facilities perfect
