The Balcon is an all-day dining destination, perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it is also ideal for a morning tea and savouries, an afternoon tea with a French touch, and a pre-theatre dinner.
Showing Head Chef, Simon Woodrow’s passion for local produce, the menu uses seasonal ingredients and offers traditional French dishes such as steak tartare, lemon sole meunière and foie gras cottage pie. For a luxury experience, a selection of Sturia caviars is also available, to enjoy with a glass of champagne.
The private dining room offers the perfect setting for a business or private party. Ideally positioned and flooded with natural daylight, the room is separated by silk curtains, offering an exclusive and intimate area, whilst giving the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of the French brasserie.View Private Dining Details
The smoked haddock starter was delicious with lots of tasty flavours. The plaice main had too many bones which took away from the taste. The lamb shoulder main was very fatty but tasty nonetheless (once all the fat was removed). We got some chips on the side and this was a bit over fried for my liking. For dessert we went for the coconut pannacotta and chocolate mousse, both were excellent!
The service was impeccable, attentive waiters and waitresses who were only too happy to go through the menu or recommend a dish.
We would definitely return once The Balcon reopens after its renovation.
We could not fault this restaurant at all. The service was excellent and the food outstanding, if anything the food came much more quickly than we expected but that is nothing to complain about. I also thought it was very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend going here and will definitely go back.
Beautiful surroundings and great food. I definitely recommend The Balcon and the St. James bar right next door is also worth a visit.
The location and the setting is great, but in my opinion its not value for money
Staff really professional and helpful, but the food has not any flavour or at least the food we ate
Enjoyed a pre- theatre dinner. Limited menu but great quality food. Wine by the bottle expensive but carafes made it affordable
Excellent food really good ambience. Service is topnotch with professional and quslity customer service skills. Very good value for money
A relaxing, friendly ambiance makes the Balcon a great place for lunch. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. Food was delicious, lamb navarin was melt in the mouth.
Don’t be fooled by the beautiful presentation. The food looked great, very fancy, but the actual taste was more than average. We chose to go for a la carte instead of the deal and payed around £140 for the two of us (starter and a main each). For that money the food should have been better prepared. My duck was either over cooked or stale and my started of the fois gras was also underwhelming considering the lovely ingredients used. I just think it wasn’t fresh. I didn’t taste my partners food but he was not impressed by the tartar and steak either...
On the positive note the staff were very kind and constantly asked how the food was, I just didn’t have the heart to send it back. I should have...
I think the 3 course deal is popular and may be different but a la carte was truly rubbish taste wise. We went for the cheapest wine on the menu- around £30 which was good.
We do tend to go to some of the best restaurants in London, so our judgement might be harsh.... yet for the price payed it should.
The service and food was outstanding. The best restaurant experience I've ever had. Our waiter went an extra mile for us. We will definitely come back.
Service was excellent. Value for money not so good. We spent around £240.00 not including drinks. Portions were small. Taste was average nothing special considering the price.
Don't come here for business meetings, although the staff are very friendly and helpful it isn't the right setting as it's mostly hotel guests having buffet. Also the main room for breakfast isn't as nice as the other semi private rooms on the ground floor where there were various people having coffees etc.
Food much better than expected, service excellent, such a pity that the room is going to be changed. It does not need to be modernised, which can only make it less attractive and welcoming. Will definitely be back.
perfect location in town for a relaxing lunch. Great food, ambiance and service. Look forward to my next visit.
Great food. Great service. Lovely dining room where it is easy to hear your companions. Plenty of space.
Great food great service and awesome dining experience.
Very nice restaurant .staff were wonderful had a 3 course meal with a glass of champagne for my partner's birthday before going to the theatre
Lovely tranquil setting and the food really was delicious. We had the pigs cheeks and the lamb which were both tender and rich. I came on a reduced menu deal and I was happy with the price I paid for that. Had I paid full price I don’t think it would be great value for money.
Second time at the Balcon and I’ve enjoyed the moment as the first. Location, food, service were fabulous.
Lovely service all night. We had the special set menu and food was lovely, but only complaint was main course was a delicious but small. Left a little bit hungry and none of us in the group are big eaters. Would go again though and thought generally very good all round
Fantastic atmosphere, service and food. Particularly loved that the bar staff served us water before we ordered out drinks - great attention to detail.
Lovely atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was good (especially our pork cheek starter) the lamb main was good and I recommend the raspberry soufflé for dessert.
The Balcon is a lovely setting serving some fantastic food. However the service was a bit of a let down. We were given an ipad to select our wines from (with no explanation) where the batteries had died before we could even use it. A cocktail order was substituted without consent if that is still acceptable (it wasn't so was sent back). After placing the food order we were waiting for a long time just for our starters even though the restaurant wasn't even that full (perhaps 3/4 tables occupied at the time).
If time is of no consequence I would definitely recommend dining here.
Service and food are great. Recommend you to try!
Loved the food, good location, great setting. Would visit again.
A consistently good restaurant that we frequent pre-theatre; the bar is also a favourite.
Great food and ambience. Enjoyed the menu for £28. Had excellent predinner drink and a couple of decent bottles of French wine.
Excellent food and really good customer service. Waiters were very attentive. Food delicious. Would certainly eat here again.
Perfect atmosphere and tasty food! We loved the dinner!!
Nice place to eat. Friendly service. Good quality and value.
Lunch at the Balcon was fabulous. Although the menu lacks a huge amount of choice, the food was fantastic. I would definitely go again.
For Christmas we bought each other a 3 course lunch gift certificate, at the Balcon, to include a glass of champagne. As ever the staff were all delightful, friendly and efficient.
We had the Express lunch with 3 choices of each course. Lovely bread to start while we lingered over our choices, and then the most delicious lunch! As an extra treat we took our coffee in the Rose Lounge!
All in all, a perfect relaxing experience.
I would firstly like to thank the Balcon for an amazing evening and their swiftness in resolving the issue regarding my booking
The service is outstanding and I met a really nice waiter at the bar called Lukas who made the evening special for me and my partner with some creative cocktails
The food could be improved the options on the set menu are extremely small and potentially pictures on the menu would help
Overall I would definitely recommend
Been here several times before. This was a disappointing experience. The main course was ridiculous- one slice of pumpkin! The service was also much slower than last time; waiters were very busy and far less attentive than previous visits. We won’t be returning unfortunately.
Had a fantastic birthday brunch celebration (endless prosecco!) - very knowledgable, attentive and polite staff. Food great and atmosphere perfect. Great location and fabulous surroundings - will definitely return🍾🎉
We had a brilliant night last Saturday. The staff couldn't do enough for us, the food was delicious and the cocktails were fab!
Fantastic staff and very attentive, without being over bearing.
Food was lovely and filling.
Nothing to dislike and a credit to the hotel. It made us think, if the restaurant is thus good, we should look to stay there next time we are in London.
We booked the table online, it asked for the reason for the booking and I said it was birthday.
Without asking they made warm fresh cakes with fruit and displayed it on a board with a candle and happy birthday written. I know it doesn't cost alot, but a fantastic idea and the girlfriend loved it.
Excellent place for lunch, we were a group of 8, very comfortable and no rush to get off table. 2nd visit and will be back.
Always a pleasure to dine at the Balcon
It was my wife’s birthday and we were going to Her Majesty’s Theatre. The restaurant was of a high quality, very clean and would go again. Outstanding food and staff that were French.
