We had a lovely evening meal. The food was hot and beautifully presented. A lovely bottle of wine too.
It was our first visit back to Belfast for a while, we went to the Barking Dog last February and had fantastic Tapas, this is why we rebooked to go there again. However on this occasion the food was awful, we ordered Tapas and a pasta dish but literally everything was swimming in soy sauce and the pasta was inedible! We did speak to the waitress about it, she just apologised but there was no offer of any deduction from the bill. We really should’ve complained more but typically for me, I’m too polite and don’t like fuss, which I now regret as we just paid and left. We won’t be going back ☹️
Brilliant restaurant. Food was top notch but what made it such a good night for us, was the waiter.
He was excellent - he was rushed off his feet but still went all out to please all his tables. Kudos to you sir, especially after hitting 40,000 steps (This was early in the evening).
If in Belfast and fancy a relaxed place, with great food and people - I would easily recommend The Barking Dog.
Good service but food not good enough.
Never had a bad meal here. Good food well served. Prompt attentive service.
We love the Barking Dog. Unfortunately we had a few problems on Sunday.
We tried to amend booking time through open table but kept getting a message saying the restaurant could not be contacted. I phoned 5 times over a lengthy period but there was no answer. I also sent a Facebook message, getting an auto reply. I eventually got through by phone (very close to our original booking time) and there was no problem getting the time changed. No big deal but just not ideal, we were already running late but spent a lot of time trying to make contact.
We ordered some Tapas
The Crab was lovely. So were the Chicken Wings recommended by our waiter.
The Pork belly was terrible. I know pork belly has a mix of meat and fat but these were easily 80/90% fat.
I also ordered the scallop and black pudding starter after seeing it on your Facebook page a few days prior. It was nothing like the advertised photo. I couldn't see the black pudding discs so asked the waiter, he came back to say they are no longer discs but lose crumbs scattered over the plate. I just about saw these, but they were very sparse and very crispy / burnt. The scallop and black pudding mix is a tried and tested combination but this really disappointed with the lack of black pudding. We returned both problem dishes.
Following that, the main course pastas were amazing, as always. Wine was fantastic too.
Our server was very good, friendly and efficient. Didn't catch his name. Tall young lad.
When our bill came down both problem dishes were still on it which we were surprised to see. We queried this and he went to speak to his manager. And this is our main concern. Despite removing the dishes we witnessed a terrible reaction to the news. She was raging, and made no effort to hide her anger at the till. Although she never came to speak to us we could clearly she was disgusted at the complaint. This definitely soured our visit. I wouldn't be as keen to highly recommend the backing dog like I had in the past.
Beef tartare starter was delicious. Wife had scallops with black pudding, also excellent. Sirloin steak was probably a poor choice as it was rather tough and flavourless (which this cut of meat usually is)- although wife thought hers was good. Celeriac remoulade is designed to look and taste like an oriental noodle dish. Coffee flavoured crème brulee was very good. Waiter Steve was very attentive and helpful.
We enjoyed our meal at the barking dog, the choice of starters for us was limited as i am caoliac. Our main meal was beautiful, the staff that tended to us were very accomodating and helpful. The restaurant was nice and we cold hear each other speak. We will visit again the next time we are in belfast.
Go to this spot when you're really really hungry. Burger seemed pricey, that's until I seen the size of it. Wow! I travel all over Ireland, north & south trying different eateries. I grade them on a scale of 1-10.
This being my very 1st trip to The Barking dog, I will give it an 8. We will be back.
Great ambience and our server Maeve was delightful
Best restaurant in town. Great food and the best service I have experienced
Superb restaurant. Food was excellent as always and the atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed. A real gem.
Great tapas and amazing squid - all at a great price. And very friendly and helpful staff
Delicious meal. I had the beef shin burger, it was fantastic. Staff were lovely and very friendly
Highly recommend. Food was Devine. Choice was spot-on. Very welcoming. Great waitress, attentive and charming. Good value for money.
The outside of this restaurant doesn't do justice to the lovely decor and amazing food you find inside. We were attracted by the separate vegetarian menu and were blown away by the choice and quality of the food on offer. There is a great selection of cocktails and wines as well. It was a little on the pricey side but because the food tasted so good we were happy to pay it. Well recommended.
Took my son here for a special occasion meal. Wasn’t happy with first table and staff were great about moving us to a nicer one. Service was excellent throughout and staff very friendly. Food very good and Good choice. Only slight problem was that we had 7pm booking and they had already run out of the special starter we ordered. Good wine list and option for drinking by the glass. Will be back!
Terrific food, service and ambience. Great, relaxed feel with candles on the tables. The tapas are varied and delicious, served with inventive sauces. The scampi starter was very good and the duck entree was one of the better duck dishes I have ever had.
We have been regular customers 3/4 times a year past 5 years and it continues to be a pleasure to go and eat and receive good food and excellent service. This time we happened to engage with the proprietor who was willing to take time to chat - and we purchased a recipe book in which this restaurant is featured. A little bonus in an era of fast food and quick delivery - BUT DEFINITELY NOT HERE.
We pray that this gem of a place keeps going!
I have eaten here on several previous occasions and found food good if a bit overpriced. I normally don’t leave reviews but barking dog needs to be made aware of very poor customer service. Despite the quiet restaurant, our server couldn’t wait to clear our table - she asked several times if we were finished even though it was obvious that we were still eating - and even swiped an unfinished carafe of wine and my wine glass!! Not impressed at all
I eat in the Barking Dog regularly and it never disappoints. Food and service are excellent. My number one place to eat!
My husband is still talking about the food at The Barking Dog. So delicious! The staff were lovely; so friendly and helpful. We can’t wait for an excuse to go back!
We were new to Belfast, but felt like we were welcome in this tasteful yet stylish spot. We were treated to an amazing, surprisingly affordable meal that showcased excellent local ingredients and honest, yet inventive cooking. Our server was helpful, attentive, and warm. It was the prefect evening meal.
Friendly comfortable restaurant with excellent food and relaxed but timely service . I had Fish Pie followed by Tarte Tatin and wanted to lick the plate clean in both cases. My partner had several tasting dishes with an oriental theme and loved those too. We ate at 6.30pm when less than half the tables were occupied so the noise level was fine but I imagine it might be quite noisy when busier as no soft furnishings to soak up the sounds of people (like me) scraping plates clean with their cutlery ...
Excellent menu, perfectly cooked, great service. Quality of ingredients and cooking make this restaurant stand out
Had dinner with my son to celebrate his birthday, service was great and food was really delicious, definitely be back again
The best dinner and service we have ever had. Many thanks to the Barking Dog.
Great menu , service outstanding - well worth a visit
Relaxing, good atmosphere, service and excellent food
Great ambiance and food. Came here for Sunday roast. Was not disappointed.
Food Very Good .
service Very good.
Spoiled somewhat by the frantic pace of one of the mangers and the way he rushed staff.
I’m from New York City and was a Chef there for 8 years and the food at The Barking Dog, alone would give any restaurant in NyC a run for it’s money. Really friendly and attentive waitstaff. Great place for a date. We ordered tapas and small portions of pasta and wanted to try everything else after we did because every dish was better than the last.
Great evening meal. Food fab, wait staff very helpful, knowledgeable about menu, could share in a bit of banter. I don't usually take time to write reviews so if I am making this exception it tells you I was very impressed. Like Aronld "what'shisface" I'll be back. M.
From the moment I received a phone call to confirm my booking till the moment I paid my bill I felt that I was in the hands of a professional and diligent team.
Service was second to none with the staff being confident enough to offer advice and to serve the dishes in accordance with you’re personal preference.
The bar staff were engaging and the drinks they made oozed quality.
All I can say is go there and let them look after you ....... they know what they are doing and you are in safe hands.
Highly recommended by our B&B. Firstly, we were given a table right by the front door although there were many more nicer placed tables available.
The menu had very few choices and all the choices were not out of the ordinary. I like fish, but would not pay the price given for coley! Same for sirloin steak, far too much at £31.50. We choce burgers to be on the safe side. They were served with chips on a metal basket and the meal on a wooden platter with very little salad. For was just ok, not even 'good'.
The waitress leant across my companion to deliver food although there was plenty of room to go round.
The place is pretentious without cause. Huge disappointment. Would never again darken their door.
Hidden gem slightly off the beaten track. Definitely worth a visit.
Salt and pepper scampi needs a salad or something with it, not scampi and tartar sauce, had the fish speacial, charred leeks were spring omions that the knife wouldn’t cut, not enough sauce and the fish had never seen any seasoning, 2 course for two people and a bottle of wine 90£. You would want to be leaving the place a lot happier after having spent that, sadly, you won’t!
Always fantastic food and such great service and surroundings. Love the place.
The level of flavour in the food was excellent - portions were slightly on the large size
Best meal I have had in ages - fantastic!
My second visit and I will be back again. Great restaurant. Friendly staff, great choice of menu, nice atmosphere. Would totally recommend a visit.
