We enjoyed a delicious meal at The Barking Dog on our last night in Belfast, it was a dining highlight of our trip to Ireland.
The food and wine were fantastic and the service was exceptional, highly recommended.
Good ambience, good service, average-to-good food that does not fully justify the price.
Good first meal in Belfast!
Barking Dog, good food ,good atmosphere and nice staff.
Second visit to the restaurant good food good value
Food and Service where both 5star! Lovely food - Tapas to start where just delightful!
This was the first time I had tried the Barking Dog and was intrigued by the menu. This was a fantastic place to try as my partner is a vegetarian and is often left with having to choose from two options whereas this restaurant has options for vegetarian, vegan and much more! Service was outstanding offering water for the table, and making sure we were okay throughout the meal. Food was 20/10 and I will definitely be back!
Very friendly service, lovely food, spent a very nice evening there - highly recommended!
Superb food and amazing service well worth a visit from anyone who is in the Belfast area.
Very good service and welcoming, excellent food and will definitely be back
Consistently great food served by charming staff - a gem in south Belfast and well worth a visit!
Fantastic options as a vegetarian, I actually had a full menu as apposed to one thing on the menu. Staff were fantastic and the price was perfect! I have already recommended it to friends and my husband and I will definitely be back
whilst excited to visit the barking dog upon reading the previously left reviews by other frequenters of this venue i was left very dismayed and disappointed after experiencing the full dining experience in person myself ...upon arriving we were promptly met by front of house staff who unfortunately to say had lifeless lack lustre expressionless faces that would turn fresh milk sour with one glance 1st impressions are always correct !!table staff and service lovely however after placing our orders the disappointment set in .... starter fantastic tapas a spicy appetising winner hurrah then swiftly followed by arrival of two main courses that sounded great upon ordering but didn’t measure up to expectation upon their arrival at the table.. i personally had ordered the roast beef steak dinner cooked to your liking which sounded perfect it arrived with 5 to six slices of anemic thin slivers of beef that was cold and lifeless as were the accompanying veggies!! shockingly disappointing and just didn’t measure up to expectations , my dining partner partner also was left disapointed they had ordered the roast chicken and was expecting a lovely succulent chicken breast / fillet but instead recieved chicken thighs and wings and cold accompanying veggies yet again just didn’t measure up to expectations . however we proceeded to cut our losses and try a dessert mine the ice cream rum an rasin bitterly disappointing had the consistency of a slush puppy with three raisins in it however the pineapple tartain that my dinning partner ordered actually was lovely however overal the whole dining experience left both of us disappointed and the £85 bill for the dinning experience left us flabbergasted .the decor was shabby and the venue is in need of major renovation
Loved this place. It has a nice buzzy atmosphere & an eclectic charm. Love all the mismatched chairs and crockery. The food was fab & the wine fairly reasonably priced. Would definitely re-visit.
Great food and seemed to be locally produced produce. Service was very helpful!
Beautiful food and wine- excellent recommendations and service from Martina. Thanks for a great night
Myself and my partner have been to the Barking Dog on three occasions. We didn't really rate it the first time, but have seen great improvement.
We had a perfect evening on Friday, from the service (I think our waiter was Jeff?) to the food. The chocolate and peanut butter tart special was magnificent! Their vegetarian options have greatly improved over the years too, and they now have a separate menu.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The Barking Dog and are dying to go back sometime soon!
Thank you for a lovely evening.
Very good service. Food was very good- we both had the shin burger for our main & was delicious but maybe a bit too much for us as we had a selection to tapas to start.
Attentive staff without being too pushy. The place was buzzing for a Sunday evening.
Would definitely go back.
Fabulous food served in a relaxed manner. Great attention to detail to ensure a lovely evening.
Always been a fan of the beef shin burger so definitely recommend. Though problem is it’s too chunky and therefore difficult to eat.
Chips to chunky too!
Tapas a bit on the skimpy side.
Found staff a bit slow to serve.
Really enjoyed the food, only criticism I would have is that there is a language barrier with some of the staff. I wanted to change one of the options slightly but it just got confused so I picked something else on the menu.
Greeting was charming, very inviting lay out.
Staff knowledge of menu and wine was excellent. Service was timely and well executed.
Food was outstanding. Clearing, attention and subsequent courses all excellent.
A wonderful lunch.
We had the burger and fish pie. Both So tasty. Had lovely sticky toffee pudding to share and a coffee. We really enjoyed our meal.
Had an absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch. My first time here afters years of saying I had to go try the food. Held up to all expectations. Definitely one of best restaurants in Belfast by a country mile.
Fabulous from start to finish
Good service tasty food but a bit pricey for lunch
We enjoyed delicious steak sandwiches and thin fries followed by excellent coffee. Service was quick, discreet and polite. Will definitely come again next time I'm in Belfast.
Lovely meal at the Barking Dog. Great food, really helpful and friendly service. Would go again!
2013 I was here with friends and now 5 years later with my boyfriend. My food was amazing and his (veggie option) even better. The online table reservation is new and Its pretty convenient as I hate calling
Had a great lunch. The menu was varied but went for the gnocchi and they were spot on. Cooked perfectly and accompanied by apricots which really worked.
I would dine at The Barking Dog a few times each year and the standard of food , service etc is always of a high standard. While there are a number of individual starters, as is usual in any restaurant , the Barking Dog also offers a number of tapas (£3.75 each , £15 for 5) which enables a group to sample a variety of tastes(the beef rib tapas in particular is excellent).
The restaurant is always spotlessly clean , and the staff are always very professional.
Incredible food in a welcoming environment. The best gnocchi I have ever had!
Amazing food & excellent service every time. A favourite for my husband & I, the shin burger is amazing, as are the tapas. Also love the new sister restaurant, The Dog Track.
As always good food and service. We shan't leave it too long before we're back again.
Setting and food was great. The only fault was the service. The server was rude and very blunt almost as if he couldn’t be bothered serving us.
Great food, but disappointing that they feel the need to serve some options on a wooden board instead of a plate.
Fantastic dining experience the food was delicious and not over priced. The atmosphere was superb. We definitely plan on returning when back in Belfast. Thank you
First time at this restaurant and wont be the last.Loved the tapas selection.Ambience was great.Staff were really pleasant and very attentive.Made us very comfortable so much so that i ordered a second bottle of wine and we really enjoyed our night. It was a bit expensive but well worth it.Looking forward to returning in the near future
Hands down one of the best, and most relaxed, places to eat in Belfast!
Went to the Barking Dog after a recommendation by a local friend and was not disappointed. The menu can be slightly confusing at first but there are good options for vegetarians. I would definitely recommend the gnocchi accompanied by a glass of Primitivo. There was also a nice starter - arancini - that would live better without the accompanying mayo sauce, as it inhibits the rich flavours contained in the arancino. The espresso in the end was one of the highlights of the dinner. Its sour-ish flavour was distinctive and a pleasure for a coffee lover. Yes, coffee matters!
The staff is attentive and you can notice a 'well-oiled' machine, professional and friendly but not intrusive. The restaurant is classy yet casual which made us feel comfortable after a long day of sightseeing and no time to change our jeans into something fancier. If you have a budget around £25-35 per person I would definitely recommend it.
