Great food and wine in comfortable surroundings. Staff were very friendly and helpful with my wife's gluten free needs. Will definitely visit again for Sunday lunch.
Went for my husbands birthday. The staff were friendly and put up some balloons themselves which i thought was nice. It can be noisy as it is a bar style resteraunt but we really enjoyed the food and had a good night.
Took my mum for mother’s day and it was perfect. The food was amazing, Really tasty and plenty of it. We both left stuffed. The price was great too. Are server was really nice and nothing was to much. It’s somewhere I’m planning on coming back again with my partner as really enjoyed. If I had to be picky I wud say the only let down was are table was a little mucky other than that it was perfect.
DONT DO IT! The smell was disgusting, cheap cleaning product hiding a multitude of bodily functions, they should no longer be allowed to serve food. They have allowed it to become a ‘Wetherspoons’ type pub. In fact that’s an insult to Wetherspoons. They sat us in a tiny booth even though no-one else was in the place as they couldn’t open the upstairs eating area due to lack of custom. Said booth had drink stains all over the leather. The Biltmore used to be the place to be- now it is the place to avoid like the plague if you have any standards. Don’t get me started on the toilet, train station has seen better, lipstick all over the radiator and last cleaned properly 10 years ago. I was so upset as it was for mother’s day and we had to go and queue at a clean/ busy place to eat around the corner. The manager was stood by the bar doing a great deal of NOTHING. He didn’t even notice us walk out. What happened to quality and standards?
Had a lovely meal, the food was really good as were the staff. The only downfall was there wasn’t much choice on the menu, the menu online had more options.
Very poor bar service. We were surprised to get a table in York at last minute for valentines. But not surprised when we got there it was practically empty and the bar service was very slow and they forgot about our 2nd drinks order whilst we were having the meal (which was just edible we ate half then left the rest).. Seem to have a lot of staff not doing anything and not sure of who knew who was doing what!
The seafood selection was to die for
Fabulous food and service as always, really good value Sunday lunch
Spent New Year Eve hear, and the atmosphere was great, the food was even better (to die for), the service was was excellent, the staff were very helpfull. A great place to go.
Hi we didn’t get to go because the chefs was sown in and the sent us next door to Oscars, they phone me about an hour and half before we were going, Oscars was ok just like pub food, we were looking forward to going but it didn’t happen.
A very interesting visit! Following email confirmation of our table we arrived to find the kitchen closed. However a very helpful young man - who was supervising- took us into Oscar next door & was very attentive - he saved what might have been a ruined evening. I can review Oscars as brilliant staff who wanted us to enjoy our evening.
A good location for having a cocktail and the music is good too! Would not recommend eating here, dont get me wrong the food was tasty. (My husband was blown away by the pork belly starter) but the ambience for eating is dreadful x the process of getting to the table even though booked weeks in advance was a faff! This place is great for a few drinks although getting served takes a while! Overall, ok place but not for a meal with friends on a Saturday evening.
Booked online for our annual festive weekend in York. The restaurant at lunchtime was ideal as it wasn't crowded at all. We all had cocktails which were very nice.
The food was tasty and well cooked. My dish arrived late which we weren't charged for so can't complain.
The whole atmosphere is special, with the high ceilings and Christmas decorations.
Well worth a visit when in York.
The Biltmore was fantastic first time we've been and was not disappointed. The food was fantastic not a massive menu but everything was cooked to perfection. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough, will definitely go back.
I specifically booked this for my daughters 18th. There was myself my partner my daughter step son and daughters friend. We all were eating as it was a celebration. I was looking forward to sharing my first cocktail with my daughter but she was refused as she didn't have ID
It didn't spoil the evening but if we had known before we would have looked elsewhere
Food was good and reasonably priced. Nice setting. Would have been good to have known this before we went. Most places serving food allow young adults to have a drink
We were visiting York for the weekend for my mothers 70th Birthday. I wanted to book somewhere special for the Saturday night that seemed appropriate for the more mature generation. I had visited the website for The Biltmore and it looked ideal and good reviews. Also my mother reserved a booth and was assured that this was a good place to be and that they had just hosted a 80th birthday party. When we got to the restaurant it seemed very lively and the music was extremely loud. We were shown to our table, very limited space and poor lighting, we had to use our torches on our phones to see the menu. Music was so loud that we had to shout to one another. To cut long story short, drinks order was messed up on more than 3 occassions and we waited for more than 15 mins everytime we ordered our drinks, service was very poor indeed, i have worked in hospitality for 17 years and i would not have been happy if this was my team of staff working for me! Food was great! After our table was cleared of our mains we were not asked if we would like to see a dessert menu, infact we didnt see another waitress or over 20 mins. We were all pretty fed up and disappointed by this time and eventually asked for the bill. When i managed to find a waitress to come and take our payment we ordered another 2 drinks as some of our guests still had some wine to finish off and we had another 30 minutes to wait for our taxi, 20 minutes later our drinks arrived!!! I dont ever ever write reviews as i know how i feel about them as i Manage a restaurant, but i felt that i needed to as our experience was so disappointing, Could not fault the food, just extremely poor service and a very misleading website.
Lovely space, good food and huge portions. Totally spoiled when the DJ turned up and it became too loud to speak.
Fantastic food & amazing cocktails
Stunning building 👍🏼
Cocktail bar - no vermouth, only slim-line tonic and two gins......management unconcerned.
Great food, great atmosphere, great service! It was my wife's 50th birthday The Biltmore did us proud!
Lovely warm welcome as we arrived and were shown immediately to a small intimate booth. Waitress friendly and polite and the food outstanding. Speed of service perfect.
Absolutely excellent. Although it didn't served food on Sunday evening the staff made other arrangements. We was all looked after very well, excellent service throughout.
Tasteless food and hopeless service, inedible paella and 2 errors on bill....not impressed. Nice venue that needs a better chef/serving staff. Only go if it is 50% off, otherwise overpriced. Cocktail was good!
Food was very overcooked and meal had to be returned only for the second one also to be very well done and after one bite of the burger discovered it had 4 lots of gristle in it. Menu was limited unless you like shellfish. Found the starters very expensive and not much on your plate. Real shame as went same time last year and food was exceptional. Staff helpful.
Reserved a table for 7 o'clock. Arrived at 7 to be told that they couldn't serve food as "the chef had cut his hand and had been rushed to A&E." A story I'm sure was made up on the spot. Never received any notification beforhand that food could not be served despite leaving my number and email when I booked. Disgraceful service, won't be back
Booked a table but the restaurant was closed so we were unable to actually sit down and eat!
Great evening with a fantastic atmosphere, delicious chateaubriand and cocktails! Service was excellent too!
It used to be the best restaurant in York. Seriously gone down hill. Would not recommend to anyone wanting a nice meal.
Great hen dinner!!! Would highly recommend especially for a group!!!
Great food & great atmosphere, helpful staff. Booked table through Open Table but for some reason they didn't have our booking when we arrived? Table sorted within 30 mins though.
Excellent staff, good food. Thanks for the booth. Will be coming again!
Steak was amazing ...sauce was really poor and pasta with steak didn't go
The food was nice but the service was appalling. Drinks that were ordered took ages to arrive. Plates weren't cleared away.
When we complained we did get an apology but they should have discounted our meal.
Not a bad venue, very quiet whilst we were there! Food good not great, wouldn't recommend it really.
It was just a bar. No food
Outstanding service, amazing Chateaubriande and great Sommelier!
This place was recommended by work colleagues - I wasn't impressed we waited 40 minutes for our starters - there were only three of us and they were all cold starters!! People who sat down after us were served before us. There was no apologies - nothing - in fact we kept having to grab the attention of the staff for taking our orders and drinks - not good - wont be rushing back.
The restaurant was set in a beautiful building in a quiet part of York. High vaulted ceilings and wonderful green plays all up the internal walls. The bar down stair provides something unique for the before you eat stages. Though it was a bit noisy. So maybe don't linger too long.
The food was generous, well cooked and presented fine. Our cocktails were powerful and delicious at the same time. Great evening.
After dinning at the Biltmore on several occasions this was the first time I was very disappointed.
The food was delicious, especially the Maple Bacon Burger! We were seated fairly far away from the kitchen and bar area where the servers gather, so it was hard to get their attention at points. Also, many of the beers listed on their beer menu were not in stock, and we had to order 3 times to find one in stock. Despite this, the food was worth the trip and I would recommend this restaurant.
