As always the Bishop has never let me down, excellent Sunday lunch, great service. We will be back!!
I love the bishop - it’s my local - but the food this weekend was very poor. I don’t know whether the chef has changed but the beef was VERY THINLY SLICED - the pork was burnt with. NO CRACKLING and the veg was a mush mash of 1 Brussel sprout, a carrot and some cabbage! Yuk!
The Bishop is a great place to eat and drink, they amended my booking only a few days before we were due and they put us in the perfect spot for the rugby! Would recommend.
Very disappointing. We booked online in advance but were told on arrival that we only had an hour and half at the table - it then took the staff 25 mins before they even brought over the wine list. The food was very average (the veg was stone cold!) which for a £16.50 roast dinner is unacceptable. Before we'd finished our food the Rugby went on which I appreciate was being eagerly watched but the volume was so loud you could not hear conversation. Like many places in Dulwich the Bishop is just cashing in and attempting to be an all round Sport's Bar/Gastropub but it's just not big or well staffed enough to pull it off. There are far, far better places to eat locally than this.
As always the Bishop was excellent, food and service was the usual high quality!!
Outstanding service and a truly great hot chocolate..
Food was delish. Generous portions and piping hot.
Excellent service despite it being so busy.
Everyone was very friendly and welcoming.
We’ll definitely be back.
Excellent Sunday lunch, as usual. Staff are fantastic
Never disappointed at the Bishop, excellent food, great staff. We had a problem which was dealt with by the member of staff quickly and professionally. Will be back on Friday !
Really friendly service and super efficient even when they got busier. We all enjoyed our lunch and was great to be offered a vegan Sunday lunch option. Also great to be able to take our 2 dogs with us with no issue. Will be retuning.
Unfortunately the food was really standard, with a vague Mexican vibe to it. Chicken pie was fairly bland. Steak was chewy. They'd run out of prawns so no special on, though the guy did offer us extra of something else to make up for it. Expensive for what we got, but maybe just a bad night. Their Sunday roasts are really great.
Very nice Sunday roast!
Fantastic food and fantastic service. Was made to feel very welcome. All members of staff gave great service.
Starter was forgotten about, lots of meat but not enough potatoes and veg. Flat Yorkshire putting didn’t look appealing but was okay to taste. Good portion on dessert
Lovely meal and great friendly staff. Will return.
Very enjoyable but portions a tad on the small size. Nice staff and will go back.
Love this local pub, service is always 100%, food is great too. Can’t go wrong really.
Perfect location for a delicious Sunday roast in great pub!
We had a delightful Sunday lunch here last weekend: simple menu with fabulous roasts (and several other options), swift and friendly service, good vfm and not noisy.
The staff at this pub were so welcoming and the service was excellent.
The food was very good too!
No complaints at all and would definitely visit again.
The rhubarb cider and coconut beer is amazing!!!!!
The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. It came quickly and each person to serve us accommodated us in all sorts of ways, eg finding out info for us about food options and heating up one of our plates of food. (My only negative comment would be that I’d prefer a piping hot roast. Because it does cool down quickly, especially if you’re sitting near the door, as we were. The pub itself could stand to be a bit warmer. One of us did have to keep a scarf on.)
I’ve had the roast beef three times at this pub now, and every time it was tender, pink, and beautifully cooked. The horseradish sauce was perfect. People with me had the vegetarian mushroom and squash Wellington. They said it was fantastic. Even the non-vegetarians I go with often choose it now as they say it’s so nice. It’s great to have good, tasty options for vegetarians.
The desserts were great too. I especially liked the coconut and chocolate chip ice cream - light and refreshing after a roast!
Finally, a great drinks selection as well. One of us ordered the coconut beer which was so sweet and light - I will definitely be back for more of those when summer comes. And once I told a waiter I was in the mood for a particular cocktail which I don’t think was on the menu, but they made it for me anyway, and it was great.
Sad to say our dining experience was poor. The bar service and beer were fine, and the restaurant waiter very pleasant, but the quality of the food was very disappointing. We came here with a Greene King dining voucher given to us as a Xmas present, we were looking forward to a treat but came away feeling like we'd wasted the gift. The booth seating was very cramped and uncomfortable. The lighting so low that we can only assume they were trying to hide the poor food. We had to ask for menus even though since we had reserved the table so we were clearly dining. At 8.45pm on a Thurs night several dishes were sold out leaving only 2 options for non-meat eaters. We ordered burgers: one meat, one vegetarian. Both were disappointing. The meat was overcooked and tough. The vegetarian burger was the worst veggie burger I've ever had. It had no texture, and little taste, the ingredients were over blended so it was like eating puree turned into a patty. The veggie patty was much smaller the bun and served with stingy amounts of salad (just lettuce) and what looked/tasted like off-the-shelf houmous. The buns were dry and untoasted. The fries were refried too many times, making them akin to cardboard in flavour and texture. This may sound dramatic, but I'm sorry to say it's all true. Over all very underwhelming.
Had a fantastic Sunday lunch. The quality of food and service was faultless. Highly recommend!
Pub was only about half full. Sunday roasts arrived with cold veg, inconsistent plating (some had more veg than others, some had gravy, some didn’t), staff kept forgetting things: drinks, desert menu, only cleared half the table before forgetting about the rest until we mentioned it. They gave us fresh veg which itself was lukewarm.
Disappointing as one of the best pubs in East Dulwich for drinking, but cant recommend for food based on this experience.
The food was just bad. Badly made, no flavors, cheap ingredients. Not going back there 100%.
Good Sunday roast, attentive staff, a little noisy but it is a pub. Would recommend.
Top pub, will happily attend again in the future. Also has the only genuine 3-seater table in the world.
I was very happy they catered for my allergies straight away with the Sunday lunch. However, we had to wait a very long to even get served for a drink to begin with. Then when the roast dinners came out, two of three were cold. Sent back and my dads was luke warm so he carried on but mine was still cold so sent it back again. Third time it was still cold but the plate was hot so I gave up and just ate it. Would have been far nicer if it was hot like a roast was meant to be. The waiter was very appologetic and gave us discount, and I hate complaining - I normally just avoid it. Thank you to the kind waiter, hopefully just a bad experience for us as it’s lovely inside!
This is the 2nd year I have booked a large table to celebrate my birthday with friends and I’m definitely going to make it an annual tradition. So worth the journey to East Dulwich! The staff are amazing and the vibe is cosy and friendly and the food & drink is great!
Sunday roast was lovely. I had half of roast chicken which came with bread sauce and chipolatas followed by sticky toffee pudding...divine 😋😋
We go to the Bishop a lot for a family Sunday roast which never disappoints. They are always manically busy on Sundays but they’ll always take care of you. Try to go before 2pm.
Great Sunday roast for adults and children. Generous portions, comfort food.
Outstanding staff, so friendly and helpful. Went out if their way to ensure we had a great meal.
The Sunday Roast was incredible, great servings and great food, and also great service ! Would highly recommend
We came here for Sunday lunch. I had the roast beef but it was a little too well-done for my liking. Nice touch with giving us an extra jug of gravy, vegetables and Yorkshire pudding were nice. We also got desserts which were on the generous side in terms of portion size! Nice setting but it was quite loud that I struggled to hear people across the table.
Immediately on entering we were greeted and shown a table for lunch and told to make ourselves at home. Very friendly waiters, nice down to earth atmosphere, the food arrived pretty quickly and was delicious (Sunday Roast). Couldn’t fault it for a spot of food or just drinks, I will definitely return for more. The only negative would be that it’s quite loud so a bit difficult to have a conversation. Great for a catch up with friends or lunch with the family.
Great spot for a Sunday lunch!
Service and food was excellent! Best Sunday lunch in East Dulwich when considering value and quality of produce.
Manager was very welcoming and waitress was attentive. Really good time!
Great food and good service. Will definitely go back to eat and drink but not on a quiz night.
Very friendly serious, nice food (Sunday roast). No complaints.
Lovely Mother’s Day lunch with a free prosecco for mums, what a lovely touch!
