The Black Bull
Our visit coincided with the first day of the new summer menu and most of our choices were from the new menu. The food was amazing and we found that the staff were exceedingly well informed about the menu choices. We will be back to enjoy the new menu again.
Good choice of dishes , fresh seasonal produce , beautifully presented
Food, atmosphere, service was fantastic, the pianist was a lovely touch, booked again to go back in a couple of weeks, best Sunday lunch and desert I’ve had for a long time!
A beautiful meal with an exceptional chateaubriand for main course. We ate in the restaurant part of the pub which feels modern and open. The staff were polite and professional, and added to the experience.
Excellent food, service, and the staff were just outstanding.
The Black Bull lived up to its usual high standards with friendly efficient service and good tasty food
It’s the worst Sunday dinner we have ever had , we come to b b quite often but will not be back , I would of complain Ed on the day but wife wouldn’t let me
Lovely environment. Good service and food was amazing. Did not have wait too long to be served or for food to arrive. Kids menus were good, lots of choice and generous portion sizes.
First time diner here but it won’t be the last, attentive friendly service, great tasting food (one of the best risottos my wife has ever had) all at a very reasonable price. A hidden gem.
They just need to put some eating on, it feels cold and it just kills the atmosphere, even though the restaurant was busy!
Ive been a number of times and its always cold!
Ok place to go but service in the bar was terrible. Trying to offer cocktails without enough staff to amek them and serve customers. Food ok but noting special
Fantastic place food & service can’t be faulted, good ambience too
This was a Spanish themed night which I haven’t been to before ! I love Spanish food and this was as always very enjoyable - I would say the paella let it down 👎🏻 Food normally 💯 %
Beautiful place, staff could not have been friendlier and the Sunday lunch was outstanding.
Food was very good and the staff were welcoming and attentive (and also made our dog very welcome in the bar!). Prices were reasonable with a lunch for 2 (including starter) and drinks coming in at about £55.
The only real downside for me (and this is personal preference) was they had a chap playing a keyboard in the restaurant area and it was just a distraction rather than adding anything- we weren't that close to him but if we had have been I probably would have asked to be moved. Like I say, personal preference and just not my jam!
We visited as a party of 8, the food was absolutely delicious and excellent value for money, the staff were brilliant and the venue was beautiful, we would definitely visit again and I would highly recommend visiting here
Excellent food. Disappointed with the very slow service when only about a third full on Saturday lunchtime. We were a party of nine. None of the courses were served with everyone starting together. Twenty minutes to serve coffee and tea when only one other table was occupied, which was vacated before the drinks arrived, cannot be described as good service.
Other plus points are easy parking and well spaced tables. Worth visiting for the good pub food but expect to take a long time.
The food was good but the service was not up to usual standard.
Booked for 7.00 pm but did not receive first dish until 8.00pm.
On previous occasions, we were served with a selection of bread and an amuse bouche.
It is disappointing to note that this service has now been withdrawn.
Enjoyed a lovely meal with excellent service and will look forward to our next visit.
What an amazing place
Such a lovely surprise when you enter
It is a fabulous building: the staff are very friendly but efficient and it is very well run by the newly appointed manager
We had Sunday lunch which was outstanding and we will definitely visit again soon
We enjoyed our meal but felt the chips could have been crisper. The rhubarb on the panna cotta was a bit too tough. Happy with the friendly staff. The food was served hot to the table. Definatly worth a return visit. The waiter noticed it was my sons birthday and brought him a decorated plate with happy birthday written in chocolate and a piece of cake.
Superb setting service and food excellent . Will defiantly return
Felt it was rather cool in big restaurant and lacked ambience , may have been better sitting in bar area in hindsight
very poor value
£15 for 3 small scallops Service very slow and it was very quiet so would not want to visit when busy.
Great food and drink. Lovely surroundings- excellent service (other than forgetting our condiments!) - a little on the pricey side but good value nonetheless.
We had a wonderful anniversary meal at the black bull . The staff were outstanding , service excellent . Very impressed , the steaks were done exactly to our specifications , couldn’t fault it at all . Thanks !
Party of four for Sunday lunch. All enjoyed our meals. Service was attentive and efficient. Lovely surroundings, thanks.
Amazing food. Very polite staff. The restaurant is clean and well kept.
We dine at the black bull fairly regularly and are never disappointed. Food and service are always excellent. We usually have Sunday lunch, but have recently had evening meals there too. Would and do recommend it to friends and family
Super location and very friendly the food was excellent.
Four friends had a lovely birthday lunch on Saturday. The menu is varied enough for my fussy friends and heavy on the fish choices which is my preference!
Staff were friendly and helpful.Just a shame it was very quiet so the ambience was a bit flat. More people need to go to this lovely restaurant then there would not have been anything to give a negative to!
An excellent steak meal and a very enjoyable evening.
Fantastic food good service just a shame we were the only table occupied
Good food at a reasonable price, served at a steady pace by friendly staff who listened to what we said and asked for. The tables were well spaced so we could see and hear other people but not be pushed past by other diners or staff. A lovely experience
The gentleman behind the bar was particularly pleasant. We surprised my husband by secretly bringing our children to the meal as it was his 60th birthday. The barman was very patient whilst he got over his surprise and we all eventually ordered the drinks. The service and the food were excellent I would definitely recommend.
The food was excellent as was the service. Our group of diners all commented on how much they enjoyed the quality, taste and presentation of the dishes served. The sticky toffee pudding was served as a huge portion so we were all very happy! Well done everyone at the Black Bull.
It was Sunday lunch and they had several large parties in. It meant waiting times between courses was lengthy and staff were rushed and rather abrupt in manner.
We felt that the restaurant should understand better how it feels for other customers waiting their turn until after a large party to be served.
The food was unimaginative and in the case of the beef - small fatty portion came and we had to ask for more - which is not good. There was nothing lighter on the menu e.g plain fish - only stodgy fish pie. Everything on the menu was hefty and heavy.
This was our first visit to The Black Bull, we were really impressed with the modern and beautiful deco. Food was also excellent and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in our party. Sadly as it is a very big and busy place we waited to long and had to ask the staff to take our drinks orders. Later on, after ordering our food we had to wait too long for some bread to be brought to us ( after asking for it). The staff was nice and polite.
The Black Bull was lacking in ambience, the bar was not warm and welcoming with disorganised tables and chairs, nor did their style really enhance the style of the bar.
The food was ok, but not particularly special or tasty, presentation was good. The duck in the little pot was so cold it was tasteless. The venison was two x 1 inch squares of meat plus a pot of nondescript warm meat.
Desserts were disappointing, very hard and very cold fig ice cream with too much cool sloppy meringue.
There were other customers but the whole place was lacking, the music was very low, the staff were fine but had nothing to offer than the basics. A shame since I had been before and enjoyed it hence the second visit. At approx £33 pp this was not particularly good value.
Very nice place, food was excellent. Slightly disappointed the early dining menu advertised on the website was not available (apparently they stop doing the early doors menu sometime back but it still showing on their website). That aside we both plumped for the Sunday roast which was excellent.
Be warned that although the restaurant is only a mile or two from Scotch Corner, satnav will send you on a wild goose chase if you’re not careful.
