The Black Bull
Dinner here was supposed to be one of the highlights of a week away over Christmas. Sadly did not live up to the expectation. The main reason being that as soon as we five were seated, we were given a list of menu options of what was no longer available. In 40 years I have never faced a list of missing options in any restaurant, perhaps the odd 1 or 2 options. Disappointment was compounded by the wholly inappropriate excuse that there was insufficient food because it was Christmas!!
What remained of the evening was OK, food was OK and the service was good.
All in all, it was a let down.
Recommend that the management up their game with regards to menu planning and food ordering in the future.
We have been to the Black Bull Moulton before and would go again for a special meal.
Quiet expensive for a limited menu (certainly less choice than before)
Lovely birthday treat good service, good food.
We waited an hour and fifteen minutes for the main course. They took 30 minutes to take our food and drink orders. The Manager was arguing in front of customers with the staff. The meal was just OK.
The imaginative menu and the standard of cooking make this place a must-visit venue.
This is our favourite spot for eating, whether it’s a last minute drop in for the Scrumptious Seven or a special occasion the Black Bull never disappoints.
A warm welcome, efficient knowledgeable staff, prompting efficient service, excellent food and wine at reasonable prices - what's not to like?
it was a very enjoyable lunch with freinds
Lovely lunch in beautiful surroundings and so close to the A1, fabulous break from drive from Edinburgh to Derby!!
Great customer service, we didn't have to wait long for our food. The food was excellent we will defiantly be going back.
The restaurant was amazing, and I would have to say that we were seated in the best table in the restaurant.
The staff were very attentive and could not have done any more or any less to make it a perfect night.
The food was second to none!
Nice country pub, modern layout, good menu especially if you like fish
Staff were great and very thoughtful
lots of steps, so be aware
Although the waiting staff were well trained and attentive the kitchens were clearly overwhelmed, the wait from order to table was unacceptable. The restaurant was moderately busy which made the room louder than we anticipated, I felt chilled which may have been the air con or the proximity to the large windows.
The food was overall good quality and well cooked and was priced accordingly.
Food choices were varied and just a little different. All of us - 3 couples - tried the Auguset offer of Yorkshire platter which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Tried the Yorkshire Day sharing platter & it was delicious. Would have preferred chilli 🌶 sauce with the crab cakes, but that is the only thing I would change.
Lovely as always we had Sunday lunch and it’s was fantastic, we will be back soon
Our family party really enjoyed the atmosphere range of food options and a lovely round table to encourage our 'catching up'.
Overall a delightful sunday lunch.Thank you
This was my first visit to the Black Bull for a number of years and WOW how it has changed. Don't get me wrong the food and service were always top notch but, the ambience and service I experienced on Saturday were outstanding.
I have already made numerous recommendations to friends and family and my wife and I will be returning very soon indeed!
Excellent venue. Food and service excellent. Pity about old part of pub it was better before refurbishment however just a personal veiw.
We visited recently (second visit) with relatives from Canada and London to celebrate 2 special birthdays. Our overall experience was very nice, however there were a number of items not available on the menu. One of our party ordered a side salad as a starter which didn’t arrive and also 2 of the salads ordered came without dressing. These were small issues but we had highly recommended/suggested the restaurant to our family and was a little disappointed with these small issues.
Lovely restaurant with pleasant helpful staff. food was fabulous and well presented . would go back
Wife’s birthday Sunday lunch
Very good food and exceptionally friendly and professional service.
Perhaps our expectations were to high for this restaurant. The menu looked enticing, however the fish pie was fairly bland and sloppy served with a salad which was swamped by the white sauce!
The chicken dish sounded interestingly oriental and should have been full of flavour again very bland and disappointing. My husband had the berry cheesecake for dessert you could just to say taste the berries. Lovely place, nicely done out although we sat under aircon which leaked on our table and the staff kept tripping over the floor which was lifted of the ground by an inch in various places. Based on the good reviews I've seen perhaps we went on a bad night as there was someone who complained about their food while we were there.
My daughter and I dined on a Wednesday when it is steak night. Two sirloins , fries and a generous garnish , plus a bottle of wine for £30. Excellent food and very good value
Booked lunch on a day out, offered a choice of table inside or out, chose out. Staff helpful re menu and food came quickly, not exceptionally busy at time of our visit. food was excellent in all 3 dishes chosen.
We were troubled by small black flies and were invited to change tables to go inside which we did, nothing was too much trouble for them.
Exceeded our expectations in every way. Will definitely revisit next time we’re in the area.
Was very relaxed and chilled, lovely customer service and fantastic food, we will definitely be back.
Very disappointing. Cold food. Burnt stake sauce. Rest was Very tasty but expensive. Bar staff couldn’t make a certain cocktail that was advertised. Waitress service staff were brilliant but food was slow to appear. However the manageress rectified this with part refund
Just a fabulous place with great ambiance. The staff excellent, food delicious and overall hospitality fantastico!
Bravo to all at the Black Bull.....highly recommended!
Very different experience from last time we went, just after they had re-opened as part of the Providence chain. Food this time was excellent, as was the service. Perhaps a little on the pricey side for a casual lunch, but definitely worth it for a special occasion. Will be re-turning.
Excellent food and service, friendly staff. We are regular customers, nice to know there is a loyalty card
Excellent food and great service. A really good evening. The ribeye steak was particularly good.
Anniversary celebration, lovely evening, attentive friendly service
We loved it!! The best pub lunch I’ve had ever! Staff so welcoming to us and our Doberman. Delicious food and great selection of wine and beer. Sunday Roast Beef was perfectly served. So rare to find a gem like this, just gutted we live 300 miles away! Whilst we are up here we will be going again for lunch on Thursday! Thank you and well done to you all.
Absolutely beautiful pub restaurant, staff were really friendly and the food was nice but a little expensive for what it was. Service was slow but all staff were very friendly. Would return if in the area but wouldn’t go out of my way to return.
Food was excellent, service very good.
Would highly recommend
The Black Bull rarely disappoints us. The staff were pleasant, the food was good, it wasn't too noisy.
