Delightful venue, well decorated. Al fresco dining available. Attentive but not over bearing staff. For those with dietary issues very helpful, sensible to call in advance to check for particular issues. Disabled access from the car park not obvious. The menu is varied and there are special menus, lunch time and special events.
Always excellent food in bright conservatory style dining room. Food locally sourced and always a good choice on the menu. Home made lemon curd macaroons with the coffee were heavenly
This was a sunday lunch and the food was OK, the beef exceptional. But there was a long period between the serving of the meat plates and the vegetables during which time the meat, gravy and yorkshire pudding cooled down. Revived a little with extra gravy.
Poor ambience and despite what looked like a sufficient number of staff the service was poor.
Went for our 40th anniversary as our daughter had got us some vouchers as a present. First time we had been and will certainly be going back. Good food good prompt service and very friendly staff.
We hadn't bee to the Black Bull for 20 years so weren't sure what to expect. We were warmly welcomed and served promply . The food was top notch as was the service. I am particularly looking forward to returning for one of the world cusine nights (eg Greek)
Excellent service, really good food, great atmosphere
Food was outstanding. Warm & friendly atmosphere. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would throughly recommend this restaurant....
The food is delish, a little on the pricey side (£12 for two tiny scallops) but you really do get great quality ingredients. The service was impeccable and overal the atmosphere was lovely.
We had 3 courses each with wine and it came to £100 between two.
I would recommend the gingerbread and apple mocktail, mussels and the chocolate and peanut butter tasting dessert platter.
This restaurant maintains the standard where other places in the group fail.
Lovely meal, booking was easy , child friendly . Staff were very attentive. Would recommend to anyone
Good surroundings, pleasant staff and a varied / interesting menu.
My husband and I went to this restaurant on a Thursday evening. There wasn’t much atmosphere in the large dining room as there were only another 3 tables in. Overall it was an ok experience but not outstanding. The food was good but not great. I had trout which was lovely but the rest of the meal wasn’t great. My husband had to ask for the bread with his soup and he had nearly finished it by the time the bread arrived after about 10 minutes. Wished we had chosen somewhere else for our one meal out in the area.
A perfect evening for my birthday.
Wednesday steak night is delicious and really good value.
We took two friends to the Black Bull who hadn't been there before. They were very impressed with the quality of the food and the friendly service. They said, in particular, that it was nice not to be rushed. A lovely evening. Thank you.
Great food, good choice, lovely service. Cater for vegans (perhaps inadvertently)
Great food with the best service . Good Kids menu and value for money.
Good food and friendly staff. Great atmosphere and a plus dog friendly
Excellent food in a marvellous setting, well worth a visit!!
Friendly service, excellent food and drink. Second visit and not disappointed will certainly visit again.
Great food , good service and a nice ambience - overall a positive experience - will definitely go back .
Great as always! Especially the steaks. My guests also had the fish dish which looked superb.
Very disappointing. After raving about your food, we found that you had run out of two main dishes and my lobster risotto could have been anything other than tasting of lobster. Wine was forgotten about and had to be asked for. Bread was stodgy,
Consistently good, creative food served professionally in a stylish environment.
Choice of drinks , vegetarian & other options is very good.
Very good food service and service very slow that remains the same starter one at a time and then main one at a time 5 min for starter and 4 min for main
Great food, excellent wine, great setting and with offers on meals it’s good value for money
Booked a table at the Black Bull to celebrate my husbands birthday. We’d been a couple of times before and really enjoyed it. Once again they didn’t disappoint us. Great food, beautifully presented and made to feel very welcome. Granted it was a Tuesday evening and they weren’t that busy but the maitre D made us feel very special.
Well done to all concerned on the night. We will certainly be back. Thank you for a lovely evening.
We have been regular customers here for years now but very disappointed with Saturday night, started off well starters came out then we were sat over an hour waiting for mains, caught the attention of the waiter who said we have a big party we’re serving them then yours will be 2 mins (don’t take on more than you can chew) 15 mins later nothing so head waiter came over no apology or explanation and he gave a different excuse he came out with a bowl of sorbet while we were waiting like that was going to appease us??? Food eventually turned up but the evening was ruined so disappointing,
Very good service right from the welcome on arrival, plus bar and waiting staff. Food was presented nicely and delicious. The meal was a Christmas present [!] for family, so the four of us really enjoyed the evening. Thank you.
Thankyou to all the staff, front of house and behind the pass, for contributing to us having an enjoyable evening and a beautifully cooked meal.
Firstly the food was excellent, all good there. The issue was the speed of service, and the acknowledgment of this. We still hadn’t had out mains 90 minutes after ordering and it was very clear other tables were having issues too.
Felt like they simply have too many tables to cater for efficiently. I didn’t ask for a reduction in the bill but I left no tip. And I wouldn’t really want to go back.
The Saturday night was busy and it showed. The kitchen was obviously stressed. The parmesan crisps were missing from the risotto starter. They turned up when requested but after the risotto was eaten. The amuse bouche and the main course were very good. The bread and butter pudding was barely warm when served and need more heat. We have had better occasions here. If the kitchen were not so pushed it could have been excellent. That said the discount made it good value for money.
Fabulous food, wonderful experience - we did have to chase up waiters for ordering food and our sweet which was disappointing but standard of food far out weighted this.
A very much better experience than our previous !!
Service was second to none, a real effort made this time, thank you to all x
We were a party of 5 enjoying a birthday lunch - the food was really good as was the service we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would certainly return and would highly recommend it
Chinese new year meal was very good, nice selection of Chinese dishes. Big let down for me was the plates for the main course were stone cold, the food served in separate receptacles was hot but rapidly cooled as a consequence. Should have had the plates exchanged but I should not have had to request this. The desert course consisted of pineapple and ice cream and the woody centre of the pineapple had not been removed, for a supposed fine dining establishment this was very poor in my opinion.
One of our favourite places but would only recommend on past experiences and the service this evening. Steak night offer was good value but we would have been very disappointed if we had paid full price for our steaks. The accompaniments were tasty, as was the sauce. Although the steak had been charred, it was tough and tasted as though it had been frozen. A shame.
The staff are friendly and make you feel at ease from the moment you walk in the door, the food was very enjoyable
The best value and quality Sunday lunch coupled with attentive friendly service.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal it was beef from a local farm and delicious. I have coeliac disease and have to be gluten free and they were very accommodating, but I really missed the Yorkshire pudding which are very simple to make with gf flour and Cornflour. There is a lovely ambiance in the restaurant and the waiters and waitresses are very attentive and pleasant. I would recommend the Black Bull to all my friends.
Sunday lunch was ecxellent, the beef being ping and extremely tender. Service good but a bit difficult entering and leaving for wheelchair users
