Lovely restaurant, well spaced tables. Great food and service
Busy pub with very good food and excellent bedroom and bathroom facilities. Small bar area can feel cramped.
Excellent food, lovely friendly staff. Cosy with a real fire. Highly recommended.
We always come to the black horse for Sunday lunch (the best) But last night we thought we would treat ourselves to a pub meal; it was amazing, definitely our favourite pub xx
We absolutely loved our Sunday lunch with the family, the food was amazing and the staff and pub itself were lovely too. Really impressed and will definitely be back!
Lovely staff reasonably priced menu. Although I'm sad to say the scallops weren't as good as I hoped they'd be. But therest of the food was excellent. I had duck which cooked perfectly will definitely go again. The ambience was lovely, no rushing courses.
Very helpful, friendly and attentive staff. A super cute traditional but well looked after country pub. Delicious food, lots of variety on the food menu and a good wine menu.
Second time wgrv
Excellent place to eat ,highly recommended ,great dinning in doors and out doors ,friendly service
From the moment we arrived the staff were fantastic, the food was excellent and our entire evening was exceptional.
Without doubt one of the best dining experiences in North Yorkshire.
Food excellent, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.will definitely be going back.
Love this place the food is always top notch and the staff are so welcoming and friendly.
Everything was very good except a noisy man in bar
Great pub, always high quality food you can rely on. Excellent pint. Highly recommend.
Excellent service food very good and reasonably priced would highly recommend
We had the Sunday menu which was all that was available , which is all day Sunday lunch.. Fish pie was excellent , packed with fish and nice creamy mash topping. Husband had roast pork; excellent crackling, meat going a bit dry but plenty of extra gravy so ok. All vegetables excellent.
Wine was petillante, but manager changed it immediately for a different wine.
Food quality very good, with good variety and quantity. Good value for money
Excellent location and very friendly and efficient staff, food was very good although the lunch menu could have been more extensive.
Food good and presented well. Staff have a lack of knowledge on menus and wine, easily fixed with some training.
Food good for the 3 of us. A few new staff on so were clearly finding there way around somewhat. However given the staffing problems of many catering establishments, everything was handled well in a busy dining establishment with a good reputation.
Excellent food. interesting menu. Prices not too bad. Service excellent. What's not to like?
Had a lovely Sunday lunch meal, followed by puddings. Both were served by really friendly staff, also arrived very quick to us. Will be going again for sure
Service and food were both excellent. I had Goats Cheese and Beetroot canneloni starter which is amazing. Fish pie main and hubby had Sunday beef roast dinner followed by pumpkin pie, all were delicious and very high quality.
Best Sunday Lunch we ever had, beef was perfect, we definitely will be back. Thank you!
We had Sunday lunch and the beef was so tender.
Can't complain about the starters or main courses and really liked the complementary bread roll when you arrive.
The deserts were nice but the sticky toffee sauce wasn't the best I'd had.
Generally however I would highly recommend it.
Can’t recommend the black horse enough. Would dine here every day if I could.
Great food in a lovely village pub. Obviously popular as it was very busy so booking is a must.
Went to the Black Horse last night and can thoroughly recommend everything about this pub food amazing staff very tentative such a lovely atmosphere throughout the restaurant into the bar and the lovely outside dining drinking area … already thinking what to have next on the menu… well done Black Horse & staff
Not eaten here in a long time and we were not disappointed, we had 3 courses and each course was gorgeous. Really enjoyed the dessert but it beat me lol. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and nice and friendly. We will definitely be back.
Food was spot on, my only complaint would be salt on the chips. I personally don’t like a lot of salt and it was a bit overpowering. No complaints otherwise and will definitely return
Upon arrival we were shown to our table where our friends were already seated with drinks. We were not asked if we would like a drink so then had to go to the bar. Perhaps a minor point but we should have been asked. We were at a corner table with fixed seats and when the food arrived I had sit on the edge of my seat to reach the table which was very uncomfortable. Both us women had fish pie which was very good and we both enjoyed. The two men had Sunday lunch. My husband said the pork was quite fatty (which it can be) and the Yorkshire pudding was a bit like cardboard but there was a good choice of veg which was very good. After the meal we ordered more drinks. The coffee's arrived but no sign of the beer's and a waiter had to be reminded.
There was a lot of noise, not so much the customers but the staff. When waiters/waitresses were laying tables they seemed to throw the cutlery onto the table, very irritating, and the man behind the bar appeared to throw bottles from one end of the bar to the waste bin with a resounding crash. Once again very annoying.
Because we were in good company we had a very good evening regardless of most of the above.
Very good food, the Gravlax was amazing. Great location and great atmosphere
Really fabulous evening. Friendly service with plenty of banter, service was timely despite the bar/restaurant being extremely busy, and food was first class.
It was a very good, enjoyed all parts of the meal, service was good too, My pan fried salmon was gorgeous, it wasn’t too busy at 6pm , it was certainly getting busier when we left !
It was also a nice atmosphere in the restaurant inside , plenty of outdoor areas too.
Would definitely be back .
Wonderful place. Lovely staff. Nothing to much trouble. Steak and ale suet pudding. Oh my goodness. So tender and delicious. We are definitely going back
Very good service. But no chicken 😕and ham pie. Ribs excellent
Very busy for a Week day evening but food and service was excellent.
Food fantastic ,service is very very poor and slow ,the service staff do not give the food or the restaurant the credit it deserves
Stayed for 2 nights earlier this year and had a wonderful experience ,amazing food and lovely room. Decided to try a Sunday lunch with the family.
Gorgeous ,the most tasty beef sunday lunch we all have had and not too much .
Staff as ever so pleasant Highly recommend and also serve Sunday lunch till 8pm.
We ate at 430 and perfect not too busy.
During the pandemic The Black Horse was our favourite place when we allowed to visit, but unfortunately it has let us down this time. Tough meat, both beef and pork. The staff are in general very good. They need to up their game and pay attention to the finer details as there are many other places to go for Sunday lunch.
