The Black Horse
Food is our passion and we will never compromise on quality. We are proud of our seasonally changing menus, simple, yet exciting using the finest ingredients and locally sourced produce. Certain dishes have become specialities such as our sticky ribs and homemade 8oz burgers. Our beef has been aged for a minimum of 35 days and the roast beef served on Sundays is unrivalled. Crispy beer battered fish and specials such as sea bass, turbot and whole lobster, is caught in the morning and delivered fresh to us on the same day.
Baby gem, sun-dried tomato, cucumber, pink grapefruit
Great food and great service. Really well set up for Covid. Will be going back regularly.
Local and like the pub but the Moroccan disk lacks any depth in flavour and was a disappointment. I enjoyed the ribs and the bread starter was nice but balsamic and oil needs to be 50/50. Good staff and attentive
Family of 6 for Sunday roast. Really nice al fresco dining, a little more expensive than other pubs but the food is really high quality so it’s worth the extra cost. Staff and friendly and service is generally good. Sometimes it’s a little tricky to get their attention.
My favourite pub in the Gerrards across area. Would recommend.
Probably the best gastric pub within miles. We’ve not been to them all of course but all round the Black Horse is exceptionally good. Great food, atmosphere, Covid friendly garden layout is actually a big improvement on situation pre’ and service is second to none.
We had a very lovely evening, great surroundings, food fantastic, great service we would thoroughly recommend a visit.
We did not know what to expect as it was the first time we had been out since lockdown - it was wonderful. The food was delicious, service excellent and so enjoyable.
Nice alternative to sitting inside, gazebo was nice, distanced and easy, staff very friendly
We waited 30 minutes for our drinks order to be taken having asked twice. Even though all tables round us got Theirs. After another 10 minutes I went to the bar. Then another person came to get the order. Then we got our food order taken and someone had to come again to ask what it was. The pub wasn’t busy. It was bizarre why it took so long. Terrible customer service from our waitress. Thankfully the food was very good!
Food was OK but service was terrible. Had to wait 30mins from arrival until first drink arrived. Had to constantly ask for service throughout the meal. Young serving staff doing their best but with no obvious guidance and no sign of any management. They even gave us saucers as side plates for starters.
Everything overpriced. £5 for a large glass of Diet Coke!
Will not be rushing back or recommending to anyone.
Very average high priced pub grub eaten in a cold corner of the pub. Staff however were attentive did a good job
Friendly welcome, generally helpful staff. Lovely laidback atmosphere and they’ve set up the garden so you feel very safe as there is plenty of room between seats. Prawn cocktail seemed expensive and wasn’t great, however, the burgers well worth a visit & dog friendly as a bonus!
Very difficult to review a venue fairly in this climate but here goes. They have done a brilliant job setting up outdoor eating with space, gazebo cover, one way systems etc. At no point are you close to other diners. Hopefully by the time the weather changes they will have more flexibility inside, or they are going to need invest in heaters.
Food - plentiful, fresh, good quality fish and meat dishes. Fat chips are very fat (bigger than jenga pieces) and skinny chips look like normal fries so just check before you order. Burger £16.50ish - punchy pricing, think this should be £13.50. Good burger but not that good. Delicious puddings.
Drinks - plastic cups for wine and beer. I totally get it but wine in a plastic cup is not ideal. Large plastic cup of house pinot grigio - £11. small cup £8. Feel this is too steep, even in pandemic catch up times. We were glad to get £60 off the bill.
Service - kids who were semi-engaged and at times chatting together instead of being attentive enough. This slowed things down and I hate having to ask for service. One lad couldn't remember what house wine they served.
As I say, obviously tough times for the sector and understand recouping lost earnings but a few tweaks needed in my opinion. 7/10.
Was a lovely evening with warm welcoming staff and great food , went beyond the call by letting us take some stuff away , great place
Very tasty food, superb interior and great service.
Waited over 45 mins to be served
Fish was good Caesar salad was poor
All told took over two hours
Poor value for money. Overpriced food and at £6.85 for a shandy expensive drinks too.
great pub, but always find in comparison, expensive, for amount of food you get .
All good apart from huge number of wasps in the outdoor areas . Slightly spoilt the meal
Could be so much better food wise we thought in respect of value for money. Has the location to establish a top class menu we think, shame that it’s rather ‘pub grub like’ still nice but just could up it’s game a lot.
We have been dining at The Black Horse for some years but sorry to say we won’t be going again. Food, service everything about it is such a disappointment ......
I’ve been to the Black Horse quite often and the service was always good.
Not the last time however, but looked like you didn’t enough staff.
Food was good, service was rather disorganised and slow. As we're not regulars, we were put in a dark corner, good for social distancing but no ambience. I guess we're not used to the South East bubble but this place seems eye wateringly expensive for what is still a pub - even with the eat out to help out discount!
A good meal and a happy family occasion for 5 (& dog). Outside seating well and attractively spaced Weather mixed but covers gave good protection in a short burst of heavy rain
Appreciate that we're all going through a lot of adjustment but the food was poor and the service was really sloppy, It's a great location and a great place to go when the weather's good but they really need to sort out their service and their kitchen.
Service was very poor

Single use plastic cups for wine? Please ...
Slow to be welcomed. Big wasp problem outside had to move inside. Drinks slow arriving in batches. Had to ask a couple of times to get one of the drinks. Food was average / overpriced. Staff were a bunch of kids that didn’t seem to be bothered / unmanaged. Three attempts at getting the bill right. Apparently we had to ask for the government discount (it’s not automatic as their tills can’t cope apparently so it was done manually). Disappointed tbh.
The Black Horse is very well set up for outside eating. The service was very slow & our drinks order was forgotten but we weren't in any hurry (just thirsty!). Quite expensive for lunch considering it was on a day when "eat out to help out" was operating. Delicious food.
Hi we as a family came here for meals before the pandemic and we had a very good time monday night it was no different experience the lay out was well thought out.
Great food. Very helpful staff. Would thoroughly recommend
Lovely atmosphere and good food. A little pricey and service was quite slow.
Over all great😊, however waiting staff could be more attentive especially when first arriving not been offered a table or drink 😐
Garden setting great. Service VERY patchy. Three requests for my companion’s second drink including water. Twice asked if I had finished my food even though my knife and fork not placed together and food remaining on the plate. More sophistication required for an upmarket venue.
I was just meeting a friend for a casual lunch and was surprised to see all the amazing arrangements that the pub had made for social distancing with separate pods all along where the car park had previously been. Even the car park had been organised for social distancing. The food was good and service good too. We were able to use the government half price scheme which was a nice surprise. All in all a very good experience.
Great place to be smazing food and drinks, will be going again for sure
Very poor covid set up - felt uncomfortable
Poor slow service
Lovely pub, good choice of menu, friendly. Making an effort the social distancing and keeping safe
Had a burger a dessert and a couple of pints in the garden - food good, service good, tables well spaced out and good COVID precautions so felt safe.
Fabulous place to un-wind.
Great food and a really well thought out garden and Gazebo arrangement that works perfectly .
Lovely pub booze on the pricey side but great atmosphere and wonderful staff.
Great serving staff
Been going for years and is 5 star every time
