The Black Horse
Food is our passion and we will never compromise on quality. We are proud of our seasonally changing menus, simple, yet exciting using the finest ingredients and locally sourced produce. Certain dishes have become specialities such as our sticky ribs and homemade 8oz burgers. Our beef has been aged for a minimum of 35 days and the roast beef served on Sundays is unrivalled. Crispy beer battered fish and specials such as sea bass, turbot and whole lobster, is caught in the morning and delivered fresh to us on the same day.

Birthday lunch for my daughter on a beautiful sunny day. Outdoor seating was perfect. We all enjoyed our food....mezzo to share, followed by chicken skewers, katsu curry & scampi - all dishes well presented and beautifully cooked. Could not fault our waitress service which was well timed and polite.
The only small improvement would have been some recognition for the birthday girl...perhaps a pretty individual cake & candle? (I had noted on the reservation, when asked, that the occasion was a birthday). Just would have been a nice finishing touch.
Definitely look forward to eating here again & would recommend.
Lovely food and atmosphere and great service. A great experience!
A place I would not to return to.
Poor Service, food and ambience
Nice venue & garden, slow service abd over priced drinks. £9 for a small house wine.
No condiments or cutlery & had to wait 20 mins to be served.
Fantastic pub, good food, but awful service. Waited 25 minutes for the wine menu !
Loved the outside area. Really smart. Our mains were great. The chocolate brownie was poor. All our young waiting staff were helpful and eager to please but the service was exceptionally slow. We waited half an hour for dessert. Overall the meal was expensive. I may visit again but would skip pudding and go at a quieter time.
Outdoor seating ergonomically poor.
Food good but small portions particularly for the cost. Poor value.
Staff very pleasant
We sat outside on the bench seats. They are quite low and the seats are a little distant from the table area so not very comfortable especially if one is tall. Service although enthusiastic is unfortunately inexperienced. Presumably as a result of current difficulties finding knowledgeable waiting staff. I hope standards will improve as otherwise the setting is great.
Shocking service with no one appearing to manage the young wait staff that were trying their best, think they need a bigger kitchen/more kitchen staff to meet the needs of the expansion, a real shame
Absolutely dreadful. We left after 1.15 mins when the food hadn’t arrived and the children were starving. The service was diabolical and the Manager was rude.it’s a lovely pub so I’d hope we caught them on a really really bad day.
I think that the waitresses and waiters should slightly be quicker with bringing the bill, had to ask three times to remind them. Otherwise, the service from them was excellent they were very friendly.
The Black horse is a large outdoor space plus a traditional indoor pub. It accommodates many diners and drinkers. The food is very good and inventive, and compliments to the chef. Unfortunately the let down is in timely or efficient service – that just doesn’t happen. The team of smiley enthusiastic young servers seem to have no training in doing things efficiently and on time. I guess they are mainly students or summer workers, but at the price I really expect something better, not huge waits before ordering, another huge weight between courses and even longer at the end.
Very helpful with my wheelchair friendly staff will return again
Service was poor (and they weren’t busy!). Choice of menu poor, coffee was warm took forever coming and at £4 something a cup it could have at least been hot!
We waited nearly one hour and thirty minutes for our food to be served. Other tables around us had the same problem and simply gave up and left. A young waitress gave us attitude when we asked for an explanation; she could not care less that it was 9:30pm, we were with our two young daughters (who by that point were starving) and had nowhere else to go for dinner in that remote area. The situation was salvaged by the manager, who was apologetic and handled the situation quite well. She explained that there had been a problem in the kitchen and did not charge us for anything. We left a large tip so that she and her staff would get remunerated for their hard work —even if part of the tip went to that unprofessional young waitress.
Our mains arrived 2 hours late and the food was overpriced!
Amazing food. Lovely place to just catch up and enjoy some good weather !
I took my elderly mother for lunch. We requested an outside table under an umbrella & with chairs as opposed to benches. We received a nice welcome when we arrived & the lady who sat us was fully aware of our reservation requests. The garden setting is very nice & the food is consistently good. Great service from a young team of waiting staff. I can’t recommend the Black Horse highly enough.
A very average lunchtime meal with poor, very slow service, where the waitress was unable to explain the Katsu Curry in anyway except to say that it's "just like you get in Wagamama's"
This is the third time we have been to the Black Horse. First time, excellent. Second time okay. This time really very ordinary. The menu was disappointing so that we opted for fish and chips being the only thing that we knew would be okay. The Eton Mess pudding was absolutely disgusting and nothing like an Eton Mess should be. Just a huge lump of what might have been coloured cream plus a few bits of meringue and precious little else.
Would suggest you train your staff to know what beer etc. You sell. Also when we arrived we stood around for quite a while to confirm which table we were allocated and once seated had to ask several times for a drink. Also suggest you have a supervisor/manager scanning the area to assign staff to go and serve. The food was lovely sadly the service wasn’t (your staff are polite but just not with it!)
Lovely evening at the Black horse again. Good range of everything from fun to relaxation and being looked after! Great night out favourite pub!! Loads of space !
Food is amazing, huge garden, plenty of friendly staff. Highly recommend.
A lovely pub in the village of Fulmer Bucks with superb inside and out eating areas and quality food and service.
Lovely spacious garden, good food, very friendly service and a great childrens play area. I like it there.
My friends and I haven’t met all together for about 15 years. We chose here because it was half way and very easy to find. What a beautiful pub with so much outdoor space as well as the indoor restaurant and more than enough space for parking. The food was lovely and the waitresses were efficient and polite. The price was a little higher than I would normally pay but we will be returning for more special occasions. Thank you for a great night.
One of our group needed Gluten Free and there were very limited options - she was offered the burger but with no fires or bun, or the chicken skewer but with no flat bread. No option to have jacket potato, mash or gluten free bread - she ended up with a salad so not ideal.
I explained that I was diabetic so work how long the food would be & it was a lot longer than estimated which worried me for starter & main. Out of the 5 of us mine came out last both time. Thus concerned me as I had mentioned being diabetic.
Took friends from outside the area they were very impressed with the outside pods even though we were eating inside
We only had a light lunch which was ok I thought the fish and chips could have been better our friends had scampi which they thought was ok , but the desserts were fantastic
Could not fault the staff very helpful and very pleasant.
There was plenty of sanitizer available all the staff wore masks a very safe environment.
Food and service was good, but overall it's a little pricey for a country pub. Also they don't accept Amex.
We have been here a few times and the service and food is always very good. Such a great restaurant and the new farm shop is brilliant too.
Very good service from waitress , very attentive. Food was excellent .
all good - happy to recommend to anyone looking for great food, atmosphere & service
Really nice location and dined outside. Staff welcoming and attentive. Food good.
A nice outdoor setting with heaters. Despite mostly empty tables the service was not good. The staff although nice were clearly inexperienced. I think I counted 6 different staff serving us. Our roasts arrived and veg didn't show for 15 minutes despite telling 3 staff members, when they did our main was finished/cold. The food was good but if you pay £20 for a roast you except it to come in one piece. They kindly offered a free round however we would have just preferred a more pleasant meal experience.
Food was great. Everyone at out table enjoyed the vibe of the place and we will all definitely be back soon
Starter was served in a cracked soup dish. Needed to be replaced.
Service was slow. I did not like to hear that the kitchen was busy.
My risotto was lukewarm.
So overall not great
I probably would recommend the place but with caution
The Black Horse have made great use of their outdoor dining area - the personal pods look great fun !
They've done a great job of creating great looking, covered spaces for outside eating. All tables have shelter and overhead heaters. There's some tables in cute glass bubbles, great for parties.
Food is standard, service excellent and prices a little high but well worth it fir the quality of the garden so we'd definitely return.
What a joy to have found the Black Horse, we first found the farmshope a few weeks ago and I booked a business lunch yesterday. The food was enjoyed by all, the services went over and above. I asked for Sparkling Water and lime and it arrived witha little shot of lime cordial on the side together with a lovely clean glass with ice and a lime slice. We were outside and still warm thanks to the heater and we moved the larger covered area later, which was even cosier. Slightly pricy, but well worth it. Thank you to The Black Horse and all the staff and look forward to being a regular customer in the coming months, as only 5 miles from Ickenham. All my gusts thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.
