BONFIRE NIGHT 06/11/17
This is a massive event where we will be pulling out all the stops with a huge bonfire and firework display. just ask for details, we will be happy to chat about it.
Me and partner always visit with our family for food, never disappointed. Took my mum there for the first time, very hungry lady but food was in great time, very efficient. Always happy with the service and with no doubt will always return
Food not very appetising - flatiron chicken very wet and some parts seemed undercooked. Mushrooms very slimy and chicken skin was soggy.
Chips a little insipid and not very crunchy.
Fillet steak cooked well.
Beef shin pie was more gravy than meat, but pastry cooked well and very filling. Cabbage incredibly chewy and stringy.
Service was outstanding from our waitress. Always kept the water topped up without us having to ask and was incredibly attentive.
Ambience warm and inviting.
We used to come here a lot and the everything was great. However, the last few meals in the last year really weren't up to scratch. On Saturday night there were 6 of us and only half the meals were good. The starter of squid and sardines was just thrown in a bowl with some sauce dumped on the side - it looked like my teenager had plated it up!
Two of us ordered the special cod meal and it was literally swimming in butter. This is meant to be the healthy option.
The waiter didn't know who had ordered what and just stood there silently, hoping one of us would tell him - very different to previous experiences where they paid attention to who ordered what.
We will go back to give it another chance - but maybe only in a few months time.
Main course was outstanding, however the starter and desert were a little bland. Service was friendly, but there were a few different muddle ups on drinks and food orders.
Always a treat to be here - service was a bit slow, but waitress did all she could. Food outstanding
Always enjoy my visits to The Black Swan. Lovely menu and service. Paticularly like sitting in the bar area by the fire. Looking forward to my next visit. It's great in winter and summer too.
Roasted vegetables were burnt and waitress tried to make excuses - no allowance was made and replacement broccoli took ages to arrive.
Great food and service! We went for Sunday lunch Mrs is veggie and loved the veggie wellington!
Had a super lunch with parents-in-law and Auntie. Good location and great food options- even the teenagers were happy!
We have eaten here many times and I was rather alarmed to read some of the recent critical reviews. On our visit the service wasn't by any means perfect, but the food remains good.
Birthday meal with the children
As usual, the Black Swan difn’t Disappoint. Great food, lovely staff & excellent service. I particularly liked the Turkish Delight Panna Cotta which was amazing & was accompanied by the best shortbread biscuit I’ve had in years. A must try eating destination.
Lovely food and great service. We will eat here again.
Food tasted good but not hot. Mistake made with drinks
Having been shown to our table we were then approached by a member of staff who told us that we had to move because the table was booked. We too had booked and were surprised that we were treated as though we had arbitrarily sat there. We were moved to a table outside the toilets and frankly there was a slight and persistent odour. Another table was offered but it was close by so would have been the same.
The food was slow in coming and was average. We have been to the restaurant a number of times before and had rated it highly so were disappointed. It’s Christmas and the place was very busy but it should have been able to cope. We’ll give it another go sometime in the hope that this was just a blip.
The only adverse comment is that there was too long a wait in between courses.
Good food, generous portions. Service was attentive, but a little slow considering how few diners there were
Unfortunately, the room was cold. Two of our party kept their coats on for the duration of the meal.
We had a very enjoyable evening and the staff were delightful. Another time I would probably request a table in the main restaurant as it was rather noisy in the conservatory end...with a large party. I appreciate it is the festive season so extra loud!
I have visited this restaurant a number of times with friends. I feel the restaurant has to be very careful that it doesn’t start to over charge customers. The food is good but not that good to warrant a 12.5% service charge slapped on the bill. I did not pay it. The service wasn’t great on Sat 8/12. A long wait between starters and mains and then a long wait for coffee. Also was sat a wobbly round table to start with which the restaurant staff must have felt when they laid the table. Had to be moved to another table as did other people put on that round table. It’s a table, it’s a pub. Change it! Disappointed again with this pub and that’s a shame.
I must complain that there is not one vegetarian/ vegan option on the menu. You have to like fish or meat if you want to dine here. And it's not a steakhouse ! Their menu should really accept that the public trend is changing more people want and expect vegan / vegetarian options.
Very warm welcome. Great, attentive service. Lovely atmosphere and all the staff were really friendly. Had the Christmas menu and the choice was amazing, and food was very high quality. Will definitely visit again
I would love to have given this 5 stars because the food and service was fab, but on a Sunday lunch the place was overrun by kids running around the table screeching and it felt like I was in a play pen with nice food. The parents were oblivious. I was next to a table with two toddlers, who ran around and around my table, whilst the mother rocking her new born that screamed for 40 minutes solid. I’m not a child hater but please it’s Sunday afternoon and I paid to go out and relax, the staff should have told the parents to control the children and respect other diners. Really ruin my experience, left more stressed than when I went in.
I liked the welcome from the manageress and our table waiter Sean was very pleasant and helpful
Lovely food, good wine, congratulations SEB, your service was excellent
I've been a bit harsh as this is normally a wonderful place to have Sunday lunch..
However this time around, it was very busy with lots of young families.. children screaming and running around.
The waitress forgot our order, so we were waiting almost an hour for our main course. And when it finally arrived the Roast Beef was very chewy.
We were a bit disappointed, we’ve been loads of times. The food is usually delicious, service ok and it’s moderately expensive. Over time it feels the food is still tasty but there is less of it, especially vegetarian and vegan dishes on Sunday. Very small main course portions. But the prices seem to be going up. Service was indifferent. So all in all not great. Would think twice about going back. I would have told them this if anyone had bothered to ask but no one even said goodbye
A wonderful Sunday Roast with a large family table - including young kids. Variety of roasts on offer us they did half roast portions for the kids. Desserts were huge! Lovely lunch, thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's a nice place and service is very good. Food is ok but will not surprise you; quality could be better. You'll have a nice moment with friends or family.
the duck was tough, the fillet was also tough.
the risotto was very poor
the cost was way too high for the quality of food provided.
the server had a personal hygiene problem
all 6 meals had issues with them. we were very disapointed, not going back.
i like good food, this was not it
Had a wonderful lunch with the family on Saturday at 12.30. Service was excellent, we all really enjoyed the delicious food and will definitely return. Glad we got there early, it was really busy when we left.
Nice location. Imagine a good summer pub with seating outside. Nice decor inside. Food was expensive. Menu nice. Will go back maybe for Sunday roast.
The food was really tasty and the service was very attentive.
Great service. Good quality food. Nice ambiance.
All very good, staff extremely helpful. Only issue was crackling wasn’t crispy!
Excellent service, food and atmosphere. The staff were very accomadating despite being very busy.
Very nice Sunday lunch, food is always good! Nice atmosphere , friendly staff and we were not rushed.
Fantastic lunch and served by lovely staff. I know the manager from her previous pub, so it was fantastic to see her at this venue and working her magic. Will be going back very soon. Thank you for such a lovely and enjoyable lunch
Very good for Wisley. In the summer I very much like the tables outside. The staff are delightful and helpful and the food is pretty generous.
We booked here for tea on Sunday evening when we arrived we were quickly shown to a table but this had not been cleaned so we were moved to another which they had to lay out. Quite a few dishes were not available which was a shame the waitress took our order and forgot my sons burger which he had to wait to be cooked. The waitress was very apologetic though and offered my son a free drink. My husband ordered a dessert and they brought the wrong one out. But the food was lovely good portion sizes. Even tho the service was not the best everyone was very pleasant.
Fantastic food and incredibly friendly service!
