The Black Swan Ockham
A delightfully eclectic eatery the pub & restaurant presents a stunning international wine list, a great selection of real ales and a cosmopolitan décor with open fires and plenty of comfy seating. During the summer months enjoy one of Surrey"s finest Al fresco dining experiences in our beautiful gardens.

BONFIRE NIGHT 06/11/17
This is a massive event where we will be pulling out all the stops with a huge bonfire and firework display. just ask for details, we will be happy to chat about it.
Lovely country pub with great indoors and outdoors spaces. Top notch food. The roasts are still at the top of my best list two years after finding the place. Dog friendly with lovely helpful staff.
It took almost 10mins for someone to seat us which was disappointing and frustrating. After that it was all positive, service improved as new Staff clearly came on shift and the food was the usual high standards. Just a shame it started off on the wrong foot
We all had the bbq menu this time, and really enjoyed the tasty options. Large servings great chips and fresh salad on the side. Would recommend any of their menu items.
Service was exceptional. Food superb. Well worth a vist
Came here to celebrate my mother’s birthday having been many times before. The service this time was absolutely terrible. No attention to our table to even offer to take an order for drinks, main course came an hour after ordering and when it was cold the staff did not want to help. One man in particular (I presume the manager) was very rude, challenging any comment we made. I had made it clear we were celebrating a birthday, and this terrible lunch really brought the day down. Such a shame as it has been nice before but will definitely not be going back.
Bad service had to search for some one to get our table
Food menu very limited and poor quality
We chose The Black Swan on recommendation from friends and, from checking their website, so that we could watch The World Cup whilst celebrating my son's birthday. On arrival, the tennis was showing and, on asking, I was told that, although the channel could be changed, food was not being served in that area. However, this was quickly rectified and we had a good view - quickly joined by others. Unfortunately, the food was less satisfactory. We shared 2 fritto mistos but, for £9 each, they were very disappointing - 2 tiny pieces of squid, 2 overcooked prawns and 2 small morsels of mullet. Also, we shared a Camembert - perfectly well done, but at £14 we felt it was overpriced. The mains were adequate and generally well cooked and presented (although my son's steak was more well done than the medium rare requested). All in all, the staff were helpful and attentive, but I will not be rushing back due to the overpriced and mediocre food.
Staff quite disorganised, kept coming to table with other people’s food and drink orders.
Have been for Sunday roast before and it was excellent, the dinner menu was a bit of a disappointment by comparison.
I think The Black Swan is a victim of its own success and is struggling to cope with it's popularity. Bur all the sign are good and you are going in the rights direction. One word of discord a bigger selection of British bitters, please as The Black Swan is a pub!
There were some training issues with staff, who were happy to make amends when corrected, but it makes you think they either can't keep staff or don't spread enough experienced people with juniors. Food was OK, but not great, quite pricey, so poor value. The location and decor are lovely, and this carries them over the line. But if they were any other place but Cobham, the locals wouldn't support at all.
Got to say we were disappointed when we visited. The food wasn’t very good, the service was rubbish and for what we go it was very expensive.
The Black Swan is a lovely place but I don’t think we’ll be going back any time soon.
A good gastro pub in a lovely setting. It was very busy but the staff were friendly and the wait was acceptable between courses.
All the food we had was tasty and well cooked particularly good dover sole. Enjoyed eating out in the beer garden.
Lunch working meeting. Fabulous as always.
Very limited menu on offer to begin with and then told that at least three things were not available including the special. This was at 18.00 on a Sunday evening which wasn't satisfactory. The bill was excessive for what was essentially a pub meal, nothing more.
Enjoyable evening. Unfortunately I made a bad menu choice the lobster linguine was tasteless probably the worst I have had but my 4 friends all enjoyed their food so I was just unlucky!
Would visit again but chose something else.
We love the food and the setting . They also allow well behaved dogs so it is perfect for our family outing with the kids.
A friend and I went along for an early supper with a view to putting it on our list for visitors and it passed the test. That wont be an isolated visit. Food was absolutely spot on, beautifully cooked, hot and well presented.
Very friendly staff and always obliging. Service pretty good and food tasty. Found bone in chicken pie which was a shame. But an enjoyable experience with friends, nice atmosphere.
A bit disappointed. The service was good, prompt and friendly. But the atmosphere is not quite a pub and not quite a restaurant, awkwardly in between. And food was disappointing, kids burger small in an adult bun so felt like a lot of bread. Kids pizza looked and tasted like something from the frozen aisle, very dense, a tonne of cheese and expensive for what it was. My son was so disappointed. Adult food ok. Such a shame but will give The Black Swan a miss going forwards, plenty of better spots around.
It was the first time here- smart gastro pub with great menu, attentive service and delicious food. Definitely would recommend and go back to.
The service was awful. Once we were seated it took 10 minutes for our drinks order to be taken and then another 10 minutes for the food order to be taken. Tje pub wasn’t busy. The roast beef was ok, though the roast potatoes were rock hard. Kids macaroni cheese very nice and huge portions of garlic bread. The fish and chips were awful. Greasy thick batter and the mushy peas had so much mint in them that was all you could taste. Definitely wouldn’t come back. Totally over priced
may be we got a bad day but the service was so slow. even though we had starters our main was not serviced until 1 hr 40 mins after arrival. 2 dishes were then needing re warming.
The fish pie was great in a tin but the broccoli just dropped along side did not look good !
Food tasty but presentation poor
Absolutely brilliant night. We took our 6 month old Bernese puppy along with us to celebrate my husbands birthday and they were all brilliant with him! The service was excellent. Highly recommend.
We enjoyed our meal there last sunday, managed to sit outside and weather was delightful.
Sunday roast beef with Yorkshire pudding was outstanding! Classic British fare. Very good local ale on tap. Our waiter, Basi, was truly superb: attentive, personable, there when you wanted him, invisible when you didn't, and lovely.
Hostess was a bit officious - would do well to remember who is the customer.
Reliable as ever, and a warm welcome for the dogs too. Just a bit surprised they weren't serving food outside on such a beautiful day.
Limited Gluten free options available on the day I dined
Good quality food.
Service was rather lacklustre. Staff may have been a bit jaded after a very busy Sunday. They may have been a bit understaffed.
We had a catch up lunch on a hot day on the shaded outside seating area. Service was great and we were able to linger until we had caught up fully. Menu was focused on Roasts and Burgers which were not what was needed given the weather in our view but plenty of people were tucking in. Quite a lot of young families and group get-togethers, so the atmosphere was lively. We liked it.
Yes....sadly we were informed about the delays but only as we got in on Sunday bank holiday. Staff is lovely but the premises are looking very dilapidated lately. Ladies toilets were abysmal with no locks, flush spraying outside the toilet on the people. Need to keep cleanliness high on your priority to convince me to come back.
Food was excellent although we were slightly disappointed that our preferred choice was unavailable, despite it being only 12.15. Great outside table, service very attentive and very friendly. Really good place to go for a nice but not too pretentious experience.
We popped in for an early dinner, we shared the Camembert for starters, my husband then had fish and chips and I had the fish pie both of which were delicious.
Service was a little slow when asking for he bill and then getting a waitress to bring the card machine over but otherwise it was good.
We will definitely be returning as the food was superb.
We’ve strayed using the Black Swan quite regularly. The food is good and nicely presented. The staff are attentive and helpful. And it’s excellent value. Not gourmet, but a great place for dinner with friends.
We met friends for a catch up and hoped for a good meal in a pleasant venue. All was fine until we wanted to pay. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get our bill. A real nuisance as both couples had very early starts on the Sunday.
Such a shame as although we loved the food we would go elsewhere in the hood of getting better more professional service.
Very good gastro pub with excellent outside seating for good days.
Our second Lunch at The Black Swan and both times it has been really good.
The Staff are friendly and the Menu is decent.
We had a table of 6 and shared the Oysters, Camembert, Croquettes and Padron Peppers; all excellent.
Others had a Sunday Roast, all of which were very good. I had Crab Linguine which had plenty of Crab, but needed some chilli and more al dente Linguine. However, it was not bad and everything else was great.
Served by a happy and helpful Waitress, which always makes the experience better in any Restaurant or Pub.
We will definitely go again.
We booked The Black Swan for my husbands birthday lunch after an exhilirting morning playing laser tag. We arrived earlier than anticipated but had a very relaxing drink before lunch. The staff were very attentive and the food was amazing. Good quality food and drink and our waitress was amazing. Definitely worth a return visit.
Improved from our last visit, when staff were more engaged with each other than customers. Service improved and good produce and cooking.
Very nice Wine and great Sunday Roast
