The Black Swan Ockham
A delightfully eclectic eatery the pub & restaurant presents a stunning international wine list, a great selection of real ales and a cosmopolitan décor with open fires and plenty of comfy seating. During the summer months enjoy one of Surrey"s finest Al fresco dining experiences in our beautiful gardens.
The food was excellent, but the temperature needs to be attended to, as it was cold
Great food , reasonably priced and will go back again
Great food, relaxed atmosphere, bill seemed very reasonable. Will return for sure.
Lovey pub, great food and service. All for a decent price. Nice wine selection also. If you are after a quaint country pub, with cracking food and service to match, get yourself down there.
Thanks Abbey for taking such good care of me and my Mum.
Food arrived cold - sent back and dealt with, however having recommended The Black Swan to our group of five it was very disappointing, To add 12% service charge to the bill was too much for us to stomach!
The restaurant was almost empty, 2 tables occupied including ours. Asked for drinks which didn’t arrive. Went to bar to chase them up as no staff around in restaurant area. Told at the bar it would be sorted. Took another few minutes for two glasses of champagne to be served. In all 25 minutes to gets first drinks. Food very promt and very average. The service was very good after I had raised the issue at the beginning. Expensive champagne served but not adequately chilled and not exactly ‘sparkling’ so probably not freshly opened. Very good coffee and sweet treats. Bill was delivered with 12.5% service already added, no option to pay it or not which is a bit presumptuous. The wall behind my colleagues bench seat has a huge black stain running down it and onto the bench seat covering. Off putting view to look at all evening but we were told it was the warmest part of the restaurant which seemed quite chilly and uninviting. To be fair to them, it was not a busy evening so largely empty space which sadly resulted in no atmosphere.
Very good menu; service was quick and efficient. Food was excellent. We will return!
Friendly atmosphere and waitress.
We ordered flat iron steaks only to be told there were none available which seems extraordinary early on a Saturday evening. Also no olives which was bizarre.
It would have been good to be told this before we ordered.
The food we did have was very good.
Superb food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
From the minute we walked in we were greeted by the most friendly and bubbly manager. Her warmth was extended throughout the pub with a lovely crackling fire and smell that gave a homely atmosphere. We were promptly found a table for 8. Menu choice was a great selection for everyone as we have a few people that don’t eat certain things. Service was fantastic, between our waitress who was so friendly, helpful and remembered and dealt with every request without having to be reminded and the manager who entertained our 2 x3yr old kids and helped me with a birthday cake and candles. Really nothing was a problem and everything done with a smile. Finally the food, really lovely, everyone cleared their plates, well valued also. I only gave it a 4 for food purely because the dish I ordered wasn’t to my taste and was just to bland (salmon) but very healthy dish for those trying to be good.
Thank you for having us and making such a enjoyable lunch. We look forwards to coming back!
We couldn't have been looked after better. The food is superb, the staff amazing - very friendly and helpful. The fact that almost every table was taken is testament to this pub's popularity,
Choose fish & chips - the chips tasted as if they were frozen chips.
A lovely meal and staff friendly and quick I just felt it was quite expensive as we only had a couple of drinks and a main and it was over £100 for 3 people!
The food was enjoyed by all, but rather disappointed in my pudding, which was an affiago...one blob of ice cream and half an inch of coffee to pour over. A mean dish indeed
This place is fraudulent.
I have been with friends - BUT NEVER AGAIN - a fairly regular customer.
I booked this time because their menu was offering 30% off Mon - Friday.
When we came to pay i asked if the bill had the 30% off.
No the waitress said and she would not give it to me - UNLESS I COULD PROVE IT.
I asked for the manager. Likewise.
But my colleague finally managed to access their web site via a shaky connection on his phone to display the 30% off banner. At which point they caved in.
My server Jo went above and beyond the call of duty - very attentive.
Good food. Very nice atmosphere.
Great venue to have a nice dinner and catch up with friends
We have always had a lovely experience when eating here however this time it wasn’t up to scratch. Had to ask twice to have our order taken and waited nearly an hour for food to arrive. It was obviously really busy but service wasn’t great and the food was just ok.
I had the rib eye steak but for £27 it was fatty and overpriced for what it was. I ordered the peppercorn sauce but they sent garlic butter and the guy who served are drinks hardly spoke or made eye contact and made us feel a bit like we were being a nuisance.
Because of the other positive times we’ve eaten there I will come back and really hope it was just an off day.
Great food and Service, but had to remind them about their 30% off food in January offer as bill came fully priced!
Members of Esher RFC get a 30% discount- so good value!
Great parking and reasonable service
It was our first time visiting, we had a lovely meal and will definitely return.
Excellent atmosphere... very pleasant staff.... food service excellent..... food and beverages of quantity and quality... enjoy the atmosphere and ambience of this beautiful setting
Confusing experience with the Black Swan on Sunday 5th January. We arrived at 11.30am into the wonderful pub which is a favourite. We asked for a table for only to be told, absolutely no tables available until after 4.30pm.. end of term.. etc.etc. I said are you sure, happy to eat whenever.. answer categorically NO. We therefore left and I check another local pub where we secured online a table for 4 at 12 noon. I then, checked The Black Swan with open table, and low and behold - a table for 4 at 12.15 was available online. Terribly disappointed by this. I have spoken to the restaurant who have explained the blame lies solely with Open Table.
Another very good meal with excellent service. Never lets me down. Well done!
Good, quick meal before Glow at RHS Wisley
Have used this pub previously because it’s halfway between us and family. It’s a great pub, the food is exceptional, plus there’s a little kids play area outside which keeps my two entertained. Found it purely by chance, but have now been there half a dozen times. If I were to be critical, I would say a lack of a chocolate fudge brownie with vanilla infused ice cream is my only gripe. Awesome pub, lovely staff, amazing pork belly 👍🏻👍🏻
Great food, great atmosphere, friendly staff and very child friendly. Would highly recommend
The staff were very helpful and attentive. The venue was a good mixture of a traditional exterior and modern interior. The food was great but some of the portions a little small for the price. Some vegetables included with the pork belly would have helped. Toast with the mussels was unexpected and fresh bread or a choice would have been preferred. The position of our table was a little awkward for others passing by and a little draughty, being near the kitchen doors but otherwise comfortable. It was a shame that, while some cocktails were offered, the bar staff couldn't make another that was requested.
Great great great!
Really lovely place, great location for friend & I too meet off the M25 for post Christmas lunch. Big car park! Staff extremely friendly & polite. Good choice of menu (friend is veggie).
Only thing that let it down was serving creme brûlée dessert cold!
Our waitress (Jo) was so nice and couldn’t have been more helpful. Food was great and service fab. Will definitely be back!
Lovely warm and welcoming service. Good pub food in great setting.
Black swan is near to where we live but service in the past was very hit and miss. Amazing lady manager (I assume she is manager) was there this time. Second time she’s been there when we ate there and she makes it all work and looks after customers so well. Thank you. Will be back.
We’re never disappointed by the Black Swan. The food and service are excellent and we’d recommend from the current lunch menu, the Prawn Linguine and the roast duck. Also the brownie’amazing as is the orange & cardamom crime brûlée. Definitely recommend to all.
Food was absolutely fab, service friendly and efficient. It’s a beautiful pub/restaurant, have visited many times
Always love our lunches at the Black Swan, we were so well looked after and the front room is nice and light and airy for a group.
Disappointed to be honest. Waiting service good but food quite poor.
The duck for my friend was sent back and replaced with an alternative dish. My monkfish rather over cooked but I did not want to make a fuss.
Would not return readily.
An excellent meal and we were very well looked after by our waitress, Sienne
We love the atmosphere here at the Black Swan. It has a nice buzz but is not so noisy you can't hear each other speak. The food is always very good and the service is excellent.
Reunion every 6 months at The Back Swan and wouldn't keep coming back if it wasn't good.
Stood waiting to be seated for around 10 mins with staff passing back and forth and not one person asked if they could help.. Finally got seated and had to call a waiter over after around 10 minutes to get drinks ordered... I ordered bone in ribeye steak which came with no bone. I queried this and was told the bone in rib had not arrived from the supplier!!! So, would I have been charged for a bone in steak if I hadn't queried it?? I did not want the steak I had been given as a replacement and ordered a burger instead. Whilst waiting for the burger I was told the steak was on the grill being cooked.... they had arrived but nobody knew?? The steak was ok but very thinly cut and was more bone than steak. Definitely not worth £27. Overall, disappointing.
