The Bountiful Cow
Visited on a Saturday lunchtime as part of a party of 9 friends who rarely manage to get together for a chat. Food was good in taste and quantity. Service was excellent. It was quite downstairs so no rushing us out the door. That had the added advantage of staying there continuing to drink and chat into the evening 😀
What a true hidden little gem. It’s somewhere between a restaurant and pub with a lively atmosphere, comfortable seating and warm surroundings. The service is attentive without being obtrusive and the manager is incredibly personable and clearly cares about every detail of the restaurant. He has a passion for excellent quality food and wine but he is focussed on keeping the prices reasonable.
The food is second to none. Finally, a restaurant in London that can cook a risotto. The flavour profiles of each dish are well thought out. The execution is excellent, all freshly made from local suppliers. That burger though......just wow. The burger itself is about twice the size of the bun, and it’s no small bun. The burger patty is perfectly cooked, rested and full of flavour. The bacon is so thick it’s more like a gammon steak. Wine list is refreshingly good value. Basically this place has just got it right.
There was a vulgar bunch of people on a table near us which the manager tried to quieten down however they didn’t and he felt so bad he discounted our meal - of course I refused the discount because it was in no way the restaurant’s fault but this just shows how much they care about the diner’s experience.
What a fabulous place. I cannot wait to go back.
We had a good time with very good steaks.
A good, friendly bar and restaurant. Burgers and steak were well cooked. Portion sizes generous.
Food was delicious but we thought a overpriced on the basis that there was very little fresh cooking that took place and we could see the chips and onion rings we ordered came out of catering bags. The bun on the halloumi burger tasted powdery but that may be because it had been previously frozen? The others thought their steaks were excellent.
Great spot. Kind accommodation for a 1 year old. We spent 5 hours here for a pre Christmas dinner. If you want more privacy, request a table downstairs.
Fantastic place of the beaten track but we'll worth it. Would def go again next time in London. Good and service amazing. A little tip to make it perfect do homemade onion rings not bagged ones xx
Excellent steak, chips, and wine, with friendly staff and a good atmosphere.
Lovely chilled place with very good steaks. Staff were great and the lavatories were clean. Good central location and totally unpretentious. Much better experience than the usual higher-end options.
Good as ever. I am a regular. The usual prawns & T-Bone with Sauvignon Blanc and Tempranillo. They even found my favourite corner booth seat for me despite evenings being much busier than my usual lunch times.
Steak was cooked to perfection. Staff were very friendly and even brought me out an apple tart with a candle in for my birthday at the end of the meal. Could not recommend it enough
Excellent as always. The big burgers are exactly that. Do it!
Picked this as a pre-theater dinner venue. Restaurant was mostly empty (but it was only 5.30 on a Sat night). Service was impeccable and the food great. Wife had the serloin steak and I had the large burger (which was very large....). Nice cafe style seating in the upstairs bar area and a large basement restaurant. Definitely recommend and will be back at some stage.
We made a last minute booking for a late lunch before going to an exhibition. We went for the 3 course steak deal for £25 that included wine. Great value, amazing steak, good portions and really friendly staff. Cool decor would go again!
Steak was beautifully cooked - wonderful meal and good price.
Very good value for money - took the ribeye deal - perfect for a no frills no fuss pleasant weekday evening
Service was good. Food was tasty but not mind blowing. I had the beef hash which was more like a stew so while good, it wasn’t what I was expecting. But I would return for a business meal again.
Not just great steaks at good prices, but exceptionally good value wines, excellent service, and a really nice atmosphere. Excellent place.
A spur of the moment booking - and a new place for us to eat. Pleasantly surprised as I'd not seen the place before and it has a friendly, jolly atmosphere on a saturday evening. We had pate and mozzarella starters which were really tasty and the ribeye which was very good indeed. Cooked to med rare as we like and very tasty! Will come back!
Hit the spot perfectly! Good steak (Great steak bites!!) and good beer. Off the beaten track a little, so fairly quiet, but can't complain at all about the food.
Booked on spur, food was excellent, group very much enjoyed it.
Good value for money, tasty comfort food. Big burger is huge and super yummy. Decent chips too. Servers were lovely but we waited 5mins to be seated despite booking as they seemed under staffed.
Food very nice especially the steak. I came with a group of 12 people and everyone was very happy with their meals. The plate portion worth the money!!
Good business lunch meal at the bountiful cow, meals are well prepared and enjoyable. Lacked atmosphere downstairs but booking was fairly early for lunch
Food was amazing! Took a while to come to us but it was worth it! Noise was a bit high but then we had a rowdy table close by. The service was great and was a great evening all round
Booked without knowing too much about the area. A pleasant surprise. Lovely little place tucked away. Great food, fair price and excellent service.
Good service and food. Worth a visit..
Food was mostly good - the staff allowed us to order off both the bar menu and the main menu, however one of my friends burgers wasn’t cooked properly. We didn’t send this back as she was full anyway but just a note. Portion sizes were huge,
I don’t think any of us finished our meal! It was nice and chilled and we weren’t rushed.
Really nice place. Incredibly friendly and accommodating staff and excellent food.
Well worth a visit!
We were so happy to find this little gem last-minute on a Saturday, for our relatively large party of 9. I, personally, come from the Midwest in the United States, in our state there are more cows than people. That being said, I can confidently say that this was probably one of the best steak meals I have had in quite some time. The filet was done to perfection and the sides were excellent! We ordered the mashed potatoes and the sliced potatoes. I made sure to personally thank the chef and staff, they seemed very pleased to hear it! The service was excellent and the ambiance was just what we needed. I was extremely surprised to find it was not very busy on a Saturday evening around 7pm...there is no reason that it should be that way. I hope you'll visit, you won't be disappointed!
Flavour of steak was good but it was served cold. Chips were done to perfection. It was hard to get the servers attention so went ahead and ate the meal. Upon telling them about the steak they did offer a 15% discount however turns out this discount is offered to anyone as it is posted on their website so...
Nice place, very quality meat and meal for the price
We are here last week and although very busy upstairs we were promptly seated downstairs and the service was excellent. The starter sharing platter of meats and cheeses was superb and our main steak meals were all good. I would recommend this for great service food and value.
Enjoyed the food here. It was nicely cooked and tasty. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Quite noisy but we went on a Friday a week or two leading up to Christmas so expected. Recommended for steak lovers.
Tasty steaks. Great wine and ale choices. Friendly service. Top place!
Beautifully cooked steaks, cooked in the kitchen visible from some of the tables in the downstairs restaurant
Great place. Good beer and outstanding steaks. Never had a bad meal at The Cow. Magic!
Exceptional steak for half the price you pay in one of the famous steakhouses
The atmosphere was nice and the service friendly. A lovely little table downstairs was very nice. The starters were lovely - both the pate and the prawns - and the mains (all steak) were nice, however slightly overcooked. One needed sending back but they were great at cooking a new one. Sides are slightly overpriced but all in all was a nice meal.
