Really good food - a great improvement on last visit which was some time ago.
Excellent value, as always. Our friends really enjoyed the evening as well !!
Good value for money food. Friendly and attentive staff.
Amazing atmosphere. Great food. Would advise people to go there.
The new play area made for a much more relaxing early Father's Day meal than we've had previously. Everyone had fun in the sun.
Bowled over yet again. This pub has had some significant renovation/improvement of its dining area since our last visit, but has lost none of its atmosphere, charm or the personal service for which we enjoy it.
We had a lovely family lunch at the Bowling Green. The food was lovely - and very good value - and the new dining room provided a really pleasant environment to dine in.
Great good value food & excellent, friendly service as always
I have met with friends for lunch here on a monthly basis for several years now. The staff are invariably welcoming, service is prompt and food is good.
We will continue meeting there indefinitely.
Really nice restaurant attached to lively pub. Service very attentive, and when there was a slight mix up on the order it was rectified within seconds! Food was really good and very decent portions. Shame there were no ribs left but chicken burgers were great with proper chicken and ace sweet potato fries. Tandoori whitebait was an excellent starter. Lovely place to spend an evening.
The whole experience was excellent from booking on-line to leaving the Bowling Green. We were a party of four and made to feel welcome as soon as we entered.
Food and drink again was excellent and served promptly to a good standard.
Would we visit again? YES.
There was a limited menu as work is being done on the kitchens but the food was nicely cooked, tasty without being outstanding and devent value for money.
An ideal meeting point in the Midlands, friends and I have met here regularly for years.
Relaxed ambience, pleasant and effective staff and good food, served promptly all make this a venue to which you will want to return again and again.
Always fantastic services. Was slightly disappointed that most of what we wanted they had run out i.e. Sunday roast/steak and couple of the desserts. However always a brilliant experience
Venue selected for its position roughly half-way between North Derbyshire and Berkshire, and easy to find. Very pleasant ambience and excellent lunch menu with good selection at very reasonable prices. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Not too noisy, and tables giving plenty of space. Ideal for a small group of related senior citizens to meet up to exchange Christmas presents.
I made my lunch reservation for Saturday 10th December online through OpenTable on 21st October, and then visited the Bowling Green Southam website to obtain a copy of their Christmas Menu, which they advertised as being available every day except Sundays from 1st to 23rd December. It was a special occasion in which we were travelling 120 miles up from Surrey to join old friends for our annual Christmas reunion. We wanted to try something different this year to our usual venue near Leamington Spa, and after reading the generally positive reviews online, we decided to give The Bowling Green a try.
We were a little early arriving, but as the restaurant wasn't very busy, we were taken straight to our table. After taking our drinks order, the waitress then presented us with their current a-la-carte-style Main Menu. When I then asked her that we would prefer to order from the Christmas Menu instead, a copy of which adorned every table in the room, she declared that this was only available if booked in advance. I then informed her that nowhere had I seen anything to state the requirement, either on OpenTable nor their own website, and that this news had come as a great disappointment. She then remarked somewhat dismissively that she was already aware of the unfortunate omission and could only apologise. Left with little alternative and not wishing to sour a festive occasion any further, we decided to stay and placed our orders from the Main Menu instead. However, to add to our disappointment even further, the waitress then proceeded to reel off a number of dishes (starters, mains and sweets) that were no longer available, ironically owing to the chef being 'very busy producing Christmas menus instead'.
Luckily, our food arrived fairly promptly and was of reasonable, if not entirely memorable, quality.
In summary, our culinary experience fell well short of expectations, especially since they had ample time in which to notify me of the Christmas Menu booking omission.
Service was very good, the food was hot but the roast beef was so tough, I couldn't even cut it - a real shame.
Excellent lunch as usual, would recommend, best pub in Southam !!
The venue provided great food at sensible prices. The service was generally very good and they accommodated our change of plans in a very friendly approach. Would recommend.
Excellent service. Great staff. Quite an extensive menu. Reasonable bottles of wine.
Booked beforehand which i am glad we did.Lovelymeal and great service.
We had Sunday lunch with friends and everything was perfect, from the food to the service to the price. Well done.
Since Mark took over..its been few years now he's invested a lot of money into the place and got himself I descent chef !!
Nice to eat good food in a lovely village and very helpful staff and would recommend the Bowling green.
Pleasant environment and decent food. The service was a little haphazard but we were the second of two large parties which were both on a deadline.
Lovely meal had by all nice atmosphere and good service. A very enjoyable evening
Always good value the food is well cooked and a good menu could do with more salad in summer the staff are really good would recommend
Overpriced menu. Steak was of an average quality . Lamb was good.
Thickly cut beef and turkey with roast potatoes, yorkie and vegetables on the side left us feeling satisfyingly full. Excellent value
A very good pub for lunchtime eating as i have done on a number of occasions. The food is of excellent value and quality and the staff give outstanding service. I can thoroughly reccomend this venue.
Lovely meal and lovely surroundings near to home. Service was good though they were very busy which is a good sign though had to wait a while for our meal but that actually was ok. So overall highly recommend to eat there. I see they have a children's menu so would like to bring my family for a meal. Already recommending word of mouth. Thank you for a lovely experience and delicious food 👍👍👍
Great restaurant amazing food and huge choice. Booked table but was expected to wait 30 mins. Not the best. Asked for a coffee after our meal at 9.15 got told we couldn't as they decided to clean it for the night. Very poor as so early! Garlic bread was more like a crouton! Over cooked rather.... But rest of meal was fab!
Was disappointed as the waitress was quite rude when we entered the restaurant and asked for the lunch menu (as it was 12:30) as well as the main menu. At no point were we told beforehand that the restaurant only offered the main menu. She let us order begrudgingly, but it left a bitter taste.
We went here for Sunday Lunch and I've been to a lot of places for this particular type of meal, the place was very friendly, clean and welcoming. When the food arrived I was surprised, this is a very expensive part of the country but the lunch was very reasonably priced and was exceptional. All the meat, veggies, potatoes were very well cooked, tasty and there was lots of it. I cannot fault it and I took two members of my family and they said it was the nicest Sunday lunch they have had in a very long time. I will definitely be returning on a regular basis.
Great food and service as always. Eat here reguarly
Good value for money. Good service and food cooking the way you want it
Excellent food and service. The manageress went the extra mile for one of our guests, providing different veg that the vegetables of the day. Highly recommend for value also.
Just wanted something simple but got the worst scampi and chips I have ever had!
As a 76 year old retired chef this says a lot. Only saving grace my fellow diners were satisfied with their meals.
Stopped here on a trip back from the Malverns. We read the reviews en-route and it seemed just what we were looking for. We were nor disappointed, the food was very good and not expensive and the service was friendly. The menu was quite extwnsive and there were a number of specials on offer too. All in all we would happily return.
Had a really lovely meal. First time we have visited the pub and would certainly come again. We had a variety of food and it was all lovely. Excellent service too.
