The Broad Chare
Upstairs in the Dining Room, it’s all reassuringly simple with solid wood tables, sturdy schoolroom chairs and shiny brass coat-hooks.

We both enjoyed our meal but both agreed the food quality and taste was not as good as it had been in the past.
Fab service and great food. Would definitely recommend
Lovely little cosy bar with a great selection of real and guest ales and friendly staff
Excellent food. Very well priced. Would recommend for a visit.
Warm welcome. Nice buzz for a Wednesday night but not too busy. Good variety of food choices ranging in cost
A great pub and restaurant that is worth going out of your way for. Their menu stays away from the mundane and instead offers some great dishes that are perfectly executed by the kitchen. The bar snacks are a must if you are passing through!
Always a pleasure to be at Broad Chare and last week's visit was every bit as good as before.
This has to be the best place to come for dinner before a show at the Sage. It is friendly with sensational and imaginative food, and lovely staff. Come - you won't regret it
Very enjoyable meal, modern British with some interesting twists. Particularly enjoyed the rhubarb and tarragon oysters. Great friendly service. Highly recommended.
Varied menu at prices to suit all pockets. Always made to feel welcome. Food well presented. Appropriate time gaps between courses. Always enjoy meals here so keep going back. That’s the best recommendation!
Excellent food. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us as we was late due to travelling. Will definitely visit again when in the area.
Lovely food, excellent range of drinks and good atmosphere. My only slightly negative comment is that the menu choices are a bit narrow and don't seem to vary much but unless you eat here every week it shouldn't be too much of a problem!
My partner and I visited the Broadchare on a busy Saturday night. My partner is celiac and the restaurant went out of their way to tailor her meal to avoid gluten. Shortly after being seated we were offered a larger table due to a cancellation. A really nice touch, thank you.The food was superb, the whole dining experience was fantastic, the service could not be faulted. I can't wait to go back!
Amazing service with an amazing array of fish specials. Friendly FOH staff and a buzzing bar downstairs. Great dining experience.
Consistently good British food and friendly service with a smile. Hard to fault.
Fantastic Monday night experience, the best mince and dumplings ever , better than my Nan used to make !
Another great meal. Service was professional and friendly. The restaurant was very busy, so quite noisy, and hot.
Food was beautiful.Very good value. Staff were very personable and efficient.
I've eaten here a few times. It never disappoints. Highly recommended.
There isn’t a huge array of choice on the menu, but had looked at this before we visited. Chose a couple of bar snacks to start (scotch egg and monkfish cheeks), both really tasty. I had belly pork which was served with mash & cabbage, husband had liver - they were both really good, not huge portions (husband can shift his grub!), but more than enough. We shared chocolate loaf with caramel sauce & stout ice cream for dessert, the caramel sauce was too sickly for me but my husband demolished it. The service was great, and the whole place had a lovely relaxed vibe. Would definitely return!
First time eating here but have used the bar quite a bit. Really nice atmosphere, good choice, attentive and patient staff. 2 of us went for the steak and found it nice but once you add a sauce and side it’s north of £30pp for that dish which felt a bit on the expensive side for what the Broad Chare seems to be about. Regardless, we enjoyed our visit and will be back.
We were a group of 8taking advantage of Newcastle Restaurant Week, as we have done at the Broad Charein other years. Exceptional value for money for delicious food in convivial surroundings and friendly service.
Outstanding food and service. We were a table of 9 and the staff were welcoming and provided very high service levels despite the large numbers of people. Exceptional service!
As promised relaxed pub atmosphere but the food is select seasonal evem veg friendly. Attentive service
Love everything Broadchare. The place has a nice buzz about it, good beer and varied menu that never disappoints.
Surprised by how good the dining experience was - food, service and ambience. Place was very quiet on a January Saturday lunchtime and we had a lovely time. Not cheap especially, but still good value I thought. Excellent range of fare, food and drinkwise.
I have eaten at the Broad Chare numerous times. The atmosphere is relaxed but everything is done well. It is equally suited to a business lunch with a client or a birthday meal with the family - we have done both and always enjoyed it. Excellent beer, wholesome home-cooked food and great location.
We were a party of 10 so expected that there might be a delay in getting all of our food ready, it wasn't an issue at all and the waiting staff were brilliant in listening to 10 people babble away trying to decide what to have.
Never had a bad meal here - food is faultless every time!
Had a few meals here and every one has been outstanding. I’ve always picked from the Specials menu in the restaurant rather than the bar. Bar eating area is a bit dark and gloomy.
Also has a very good selection of beers.
Absolutely lovely in all respects - lovely food in a relaxed atmosphere!
Excellent Sunday lunch. I had 2 friends over from Canada and they thought it was great, especially the food. Great roast pork with trimmings and YP, one went for pollack in a hazelnut crumb with mussels, she thought it was superb, the other had oysters (local Lindisfarne, a first for him), smoked haddock croquettes and mushrooms/tarragon butter on toast, all well above standard. I've ate here many times, it never disappoints. Wine list has something good at all price points and beers are very well kept, excellent IPA's. On a Sunday it's normally packed and it's a family pub so expect children and a higher than usual noise level, but it's a good fun place. Staff are polite, knowledgeable and service is polished
Superb. Can't wait to be back. Best hot scotch eggs in the world.
Good as always bar snacks are great starters . Red wins always at room temperature which is a good sign . Lower bar has atmosphere
Friendly and good service. Good beers. Nice food on the menu. As they say: proper pub, proper beer, proper food.
Loved our experience at the Broad Chare, amazing food & nice atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Delicious food- quite simple and really well cooked. Place was very busy (Christmas) but the service was still super!
We visited with family from Epsom and I chose here as it is where I had my first date with my wife.
The restaurant was busy and very noisy but the service was excellent and the food even better.
Five of us shared the 7hour slow roast Lamb. It was a great feast for the festive season. Succulent, delicious, beautifully seasoned and with amazing Lionaise? Potatoes.
Low key great ambience venue.
Food is amazing! Wonderful flavours and textures. Good value too.
