The Broad Chare
Upstairs in the Dining Room, it’s all reassuringly simple with solid wood tables, sturdy schoolroom chairs and shiny brass coat-hooks.

Great service and delicious food. Thank you, we’ll be back. Best roast beef in town.
Great birthday meal. Outstanding food and service.
Comfortable room, excellent staff and a wonderful Sunday dinner.
Food was very good and the value for your money was great. Small restaurant so the noise was loud but could still have a conversation with out any issues. Overall a very good place to eat!
Lovely atmosphere and great wholesome food from tapas like plates to big plates.
Always a pleasure to dine ( or just drink) at the Broadchare
Staff are attentive without being intrusive, food a blend of old favourites with suprises
Loved the Octoberfest specials!
We have eaten here before and as before we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Good food, good service and a great atmosphere. We will be back.
I love going to Broad Chare. The atmosphere is great, the good is generally excellent quality and the the staff friendly and helpful. Sometimes the food is a bit too salty for my taste, but presentation and cooking are excellent. On this occasion I knocked over a half drunk glass of gin and tonic, which was replaced with a new one, without asking. Really appreciated that!
Great food in a great location. Quirky and hip !
Staff good although a few looked miserable
Lady that served us was excellent and very knowledgable about dishes
Snacks all good
Mains all good
Dessert bit disappointing apple strudel needed more cooking and sticky date pudding sauce was burnt which made everything taste burnt
But other than that would defiantly return and recommend
Nice to see the Octoberfest menu adding to the current menu.
The wine was cool, the crab was delicious and the sweets a delight.
Food was delicious, however the main course we had, Calves liver and onions, we found the portion to be smaller than expected .
Whenever we go the food is delicious, the menu is exciting. I had grouse and it was superb. Huge range of fab beers and wine too.
Beautiful food. Attentive and friendly staff.
It was in a Great location close to the river, in an old building full of character. The food and service was very good. Great for families.
Wonderful food, well served, good value, nice surroundings and decent beer. No complaints.
Nice room, nice staff, food choice ok, food seemed nice when I was eating it. Left at 6:45pm, by 8:30 I was being ill in the Sage concert hall across the river and didn’t feel right for the next 24 hours. I had two single gin and tonics so it wasn’t alcohol related. Something wrong in the kitchen....
I always try to book a meal at the Broad Chare whenever I visit Newcastle. In particular, the oxtail special on Tuesdays is worth travelling a long way for. The waitress changed my wine after I remarked that the first one served was disappointing and offered a much better alternative - evidence of good customer service.
Good fresh non fussy food, well cooked, well presented and served in a relaxing place.
Excellent quality, traditional wholesome food. We had a Sunday dinner and it was fantastic.
A lovely place, the service was excellent and friendly, the food was great. The desserts took a little time to come but the waiter apologised and took them off the bill and this was without us saying everything which is great service.
Good beer selection. Food and service were lovely.
I took my Dad on a Monday night so that he could have the mince and dumplings - it didn't disappoint!!!
The food is fantastic. The staff are very pleasant. The only thing to mention is it's noisy, as you struggle to hear what some people are saying for such a small space but I guess you can't change the layout out of the building. Also the ladies toilets lighting is very dim. Apart from that it's lovely.
As ever, Broad Chare provided what we needed for a pre concert visit. However, again, the wine was too warm which suggests that it is not carefully stored and so I wouldn’t buy an expensive bottle as it might not be in good condition.
Good food well served.
Noise from the bar tends to permeate upwards.
Birthday gathering with friends. Lovely relaxing atmosphere. Great drinks selection and the food was memorable. The crab on toast was delicious. Many of the party raved about the fish and chips, and the birthday boy said his steak was one of the best he has ever had.
Good service. The staff are really friendly. Thank you.
Fabulous neal and excellent service is this traditional restaurant. The menu is very british but cooked and presented to a high standard.
Everything was good except fishcakes were so hot I burnt my mouth. But we will be back I am sure but will test food first!
Great food, location and venue to catch up with an old friend
Service for a late Sunday lunch was poor as we waited 45mins for a main course and we ordered nothing that was complicated and the restaurant was not particularly busy. Food was OK but nothing exceptional
Very relaxing Sunday lunch, great food and fantastic service.
As always, first class food and service for Sunday lunch. Well priced and is the place to beat in Newcastle
Absolutely loved it! 10 out of 10! A +++++++++++++++++++++++
Lovely meal - great atmosphere and friendly staff
Excellent food and service in lovely surroundings
Fantastic food, great location.
As usual Steve and Co were at their very best in looking after us and making sure that our evening was a pleasurable experience. One of my guests had certain food allergies and chef took great pains to ensure that everything was as it should be on all counts.
A big thank you once again to Broadchare.
We’ve been twice before, and recent visit every bit as good. Our guests from New Zealand were impressed by the ambiance, food and service. Well done!
Fantastic food- couldn't recommend it highly enough
A wonderful location, just back from the quayside. Sympathetically restored to be calm and inviting.
A good range of interesting options on the menu covering a range of prices. Our meals were both excellent.
Would return if in Newcastle again.
