We’re big on warmth, low on fussiness: stripped wood floors, high bar stools, painted brickwork and comfy leather banquettes. Sup your pint beside our polished-oak bar or tuck yourself away in the Snug behind the frosted glass partition. You can hear yourself talk, concentrate on the crossword or nod off quietly in the corner.
Upstairs in the Dining Room, it’s all reassuringly simple with solid wood tables, sturdy schoolroom chairs and shiny brass coat-hooks.

What a fabulous meal and experience we had at The Broadchare. We had a crab starter and an oyster starter which me and my wife shared . It was fresh and tasted superb. The main meal was a beef and a lamb Sunday Lunch and the size of the Yorkshire puddings was exceptional. Sav Blanc New Zealand wine was first class n the service was excellent as always. All in all a great meal out.
Amazing food and great service. Would definitely recommend and go back.
Outstanding Sunday dinner in a beautiful setting, couldn’t ask for more.
We had a fantastic anniversary meal at the Broad Chare, food absolutely fantastic. The haggis on toast was out of this world. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Highly recommend can’t wait to go back after lockdown. It was unfortunate that the card reader was not working and had to go out to get cash.
Food is really exceptional at The Broad Chare, good sized portions, quality ingredients, my wife is coeliac and they adapted the menu no problem, highly recommend, nice ambience and surroundings.
Relaxed lunchtime treat. Crab salad and haddock fish cakes were light and delicious. My haggis and liver were not overpowering and cooked to perfection. Goose IPA and Malbec recommended. Unobtrusive service with good knowledge of the menu. Very Covid compliant and felt safe and relaxed. Not cheap but good value with decent portion sizes.
First we have visited Broad Chare and we will be back. The food and service were excellent. Only critique I'd have was the haggis was over powered by the duck egg and hp gravy. Unusual as haggis is a strong flavour. Everything else was very well done.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, teeny bit pricey which would stop me going more regularly but for special occasions, but you know it WAS worth it. Staff lovely, funny, helpful and gave us exactly the right amount of attention. Loved it.
fantastic meal, brilliant service. Great choice on the menu. Loved it :-)
Great choice for a traditional Sunday roast dinner. Enjoyed the starters - crackling, monk fish and pigs’ ears. The roast lamb, pork and beef was good. Too full for pudding. Will come back here next time we are in Newcastle.
Fantastic service and attention to detail. Food was excellent and the Sunday roast was the best my partner has ever had. Thank you, looking forward to our next visit.
The lamb shoulder Sunday lunch was excellent. The Lamb was perfect!
One of the best steaks I have ever eaten, small menu of excellent dishes
Superb service
As usual, we had a great night at Broad Chare. The food was excellent, especially the starters which is often not the case at other venues.
The atmosphere was very relaxed with just the right number of diners whose tables were well spaced out. No problem social distancing.
Lovely evening meal. Staff were lovely and the environment felt very safe in these strange times!
Monkfish cheeks were delicious, mushrooms on toast and rump burger were nice. Halibut dish was lovely but overpriced in my opinion and although the halibut was well cooked, the roast cauliflower was the star on the plate.
Would definitely return.
Fab place, will be back...Food great, ambience canny and service excellent...
Great place to eat. One of the very best restaurants in Newcastle.
Excellent and plentiful food, great service, will absolutely return
Midweek lunch was great. Good service and food. Recommended.
Good quality at a decent price. I wouldn't definitely visit again.
Went for Sunday lunch and it was delicious! Would definitely go back and recommend to friends or family
This was a relaxed Sunday lunch which lived up to expectations. The staff have managed to organise safety without it being lax or oppressive. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is very good.
The best Sunday roast in the north east. Proper pub grub done well. We travel 23 miles to eat here regularly, and we are never disappointed. Fave dishes are cauli fritters with curry mayo. Pigs ears. Potted shrimp. In fact all of it. The hard part is deciding what to have, the choice is so good! Desserts are exceptional too.
Tasty meal-good quality meat.
Staff working well within Covid restrictions.
Wine a bit overpriced
We managed to get in last minute here, I'm guessing we were lucky as it was pretty busy (but safe). The service and food were spot on, lovely place to eat.
Delicious food, really enjoy seeing more traditional ingredients on the menu. Two of us shared four small plates as a main (The haggis was particularly good) after having oysters and monkfish cheeks to start.
The food was fabulous and the atmosphere really good too.We will be back !
Food was amazing, recommend the scotch egg to start!
Excellent as always. Food, wine and ambience most enjoyable. Can thoroughly recommend
Always brilliant food, service was top notch and the atmosphere was great
Excellent food and pleasant surroundings. Service very good
Wednesday afternoon visit so it certainly wasn't busy. I had the plaice fillets which were delicious and followed that with the custard pot with blackberries. I could have eaten the pudding all day - fab! On the whole my husband enjoyed his meal but the apple sorbet was very sharp.
Could have done with some different background music - there is only so much of The Beatles I can listen to. I know its a pub/restaurant but I don't drink alcohol ,and perhaps there is not much call for non alcoholic drinks, I would have liked a better choice - for example a non alcoholic gin would have been great.
After all that complaining - I have to say we really enjoyed our meal and will be back.
First time we have had Sunday lunch and they did not disappoint. Family of 5 very satisfied
Another brilliant Sunday Lunch from the Broardchare - 10/10
Top quality food and diverse menu. Excellent value for money and good friendly service and staff in general.
Great food, great staff, generous portions, great atmosphere, wil definitely return when I visit Newcastle next.
Fab steaks and bar snacks. Great ambiance, our favourite pub.
Still a great food and drink experience despite restrictions
What a lovely treat. Service was excellent, food very good. Drinks nice but a little overpriced. Overall enjoyed the experience very much. Haven't been for a couple of years but as good as remembered.
As always the broadchare was lovely. The food was amazing, the service and the staff were great. In my opinion one of the best restaurants in Newcastle
