The Broad Chare
Upstairs in the Dining Room, it’s all reassuringly simple with solid wood tables, sturdy schoolroom chairs and shiny brass coat-hooks.

Outstanding food and service. We were a table of 9 and the staff were welcoming and provided very high service levels despite the large numbers of people. Exceptional service!
As promised relaxed pub atmosphere but the food is select seasonal evem veg friendly. Attentive service
Love everything Broadchare. The place has a nice buzz about it, good beer and varied menu that never disappoints.
Surprised by how good the dining experience was - food, service and ambience. Place was very quiet on a January Saturday lunchtime and we had a lovely time. Not cheap especially, but still good value I thought. Excellent range of fare, food and drinkwise.
I have eaten at the Broad Chare numerous times. The atmosphere is relaxed but everything is done well. It is equally suited to a business lunch with a client or a birthday meal with the family - we have done both and always enjoyed it. Excellent beer, wholesome home-cooked food and great location.
We were a party of 10 so expected that there might be a delay in getting all of our food ready, it wasn't an issue at all and the waiting staff were brilliant in listening to 10 people babble away trying to decide what to have.
Never had a bad meal here - food is faultless every time!
Had a few meals here and every one has been outstanding. I’ve always picked from the Specials menu in the restaurant rather than the bar. Bar eating area is a bit dark and gloomy.
Also has a very good selection of beers.
Absolutely lovely in all respects - lovely food in a relaxed atmosphere!
Excellent Sunday lunch. I had 2 friends over from Canada and they thought it was great, especially the food. Great roast pork with trimmings and YP, one went for pollack in a hazelnut crumb with mussels, she thought it was superb, the other had oysters (local Lindisfarne, a first for him), smoked haddock croquettes and mushrooms/tarragon butter on toast, all well above standard. I've ate here many times, it never disappoints. Wine list has something good at all price points and beers are very well kept, excellent IPA's. On a Sunday it's normally packed and it's a family pub so expect children and a higher than usual noise level, but it's a good fun place. Staff are polite, knowledgeable and service is polished
Superb. Can't wait to be back. Best hot scotch eggs in the world.
Good as always bar snacks are great starters . Red wins always at room temperature which is a good sign . Lower bar has atmosphere
Friendly and good service. Good beers. Nice food on the menu. As they say: proper pub, proper beer, proper food.
Loved our experience at the Broad Chare, amazing food & nice atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Delicious food- quite simple and really well cooked. Place was very busy (Christmas) but the service was still super!
We visited with family from Epsom and I chose here as it is where I had my first date with my wife.
The restaurant was busy and very noisy but the service was excellent and the food even better.
Five of us shared the 7hour slow roast Lamb. It was a great feast for the festive season. Succulent, delicious, beautifully seasoned and with amazing Lionaise? Potatoes.
Low key great ambience venue.
Food is amazing! Wonderful flavours and textures. Good value too.
Love this place great bar fantastic simple British fare great staff great drinks list good wine
Friendly greeting and excellent service throughout the meal. The noise level increased somewhat as more customers arrived which made conversation a little difficult at times. That said, I would happily use this restaurant again.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Food and service were spot on
Reunion of friends for a Sunday roast. Lovely broth starter with beef roast main (beef perfectly cooked). Nothing on the dessert menu that took my eye. Good atmosphere, always busy. Service variable at times, difficult to catch someone’s attention even when they were scanning the room. Lovely meal.
Great food, lovely atmosphere we really enjoyed our first visit to the Broad Chair.
Excellent food as usual and the dish of the day never disappoints
Haven't been for a while. No Xmas meal available for small group at lunch but other choices were good. Excellent food. Good service. Starters were amble. Main courses with lots of veg. Overall very satisfying.
Good menu choices at reasonable prices. Food well presented. Time allowed between each course was just right for us. Steak and kidney pudding special was to die for. No problem sharing a dessert. Staff were all pleasant and helpful.
As they say - proper pub, proper food etc. Great service and a feel good atmosphere. Canny as they say up there.
Brill food and venue - real value for money staff brilliant can’t recommend enough
This time I with my family to celebrate my birthday. As usual the food and service were excellent.
Lovely meal. Ordered a bottle of wine and it wasn’t cold but the waitress exchanged it for a chilled one.
Great service and food was spot on
Fabulous food, very impressed with the whole experience, especially considering it was in the run up to Christmas.
Always excellent here’s to the next time.
Wonderful food and great service. This is top notch pub grub!
Great food, plenty of it, cracking service.
We shared the cauliflower with curry mayonnaise (so delicious) and the croquettes (Lancashire cheese I believe - the best!) to start then had mushrooms on toast (could have had more tarragon in the butter but that’s maybe just me as my other half didn’t agree) and he had the black pudding - delicious! Pickled red cabbage on the side which had us trying to work out the secret ingredient (...!). Then we shared a cheese board which I couldn’t have managed on my own! Really good beers.
Roundly (!) recommend 😊
Busy and popular, food was very good and innovative . One small criticism the onion rings were desperately over salted service was excellent and excellent value for money. Place was busy early Friday even.
Been to Broad Chare a few times and each time we have had fantastic food and excellent service. Definately one of our favourites....
We all ate fish dishes which were excellent. Obviously cooked to order as our meal took quite a long time to be served.
Excellent beer ‘downstairs’ and a great atmosphere.
Really great roasts- both lamb and beef. Only disappointment was fried cod cheeks which must have been cooked next to something really cheesy as it over powered them. Great service and ambience
Food and service could not have been better. Well done to the team esp Nicola. Haggis was exceptional
Yes I would definitely recommend. However, if you’re going book in advance at an early time. We ate at 5pm on a Sunday which was towards the end of service. As a result there was limited roasts available, beef or vegetarian.
There are alternatives but if you want a roast specifically, be warned.
Good food, great service, will definitely go again when I can.
