The Brown Dog
Our menu changes with the seasons and evolves daily ensuring the ingredients are of the freshest quality. At the weekends you can also come and enjoy one of our famous Sunday lunches.
We source our cask ales from local brewers and design our wine list to compliment our food.
As always, it was a good meal served with great efficiency and lots of fun. Also, it was the first time my guest had been to the BD and she thought it was outstanding.
Food and ambience were brilliant as always. Love the Brown Dog and will hopefully be back soon.
As always I loved the food here. One of my 3 other diners was a bit disappointed by the clam linguine, but confit duck and fish and chips were delicious.
Thank you to the staff for accommodating us in a corner with our small dog to keep her out of the way. Also for putting us on the opposite side of the pub to the 'cheerful' children! We have and will recommend. We will be back!
Great roast with a couple of pints and glass of red on route to the rugby. Took a while to get the pints but then service and food where very good and got us away in good time.
Lovely place and food but very noisy and loud so won’t be going again sorry
Lovely pub with a warm cosy feeling great service (thank you Betty?) brilliant burger - great night thank you
Lovely pub with great service and delicious food. The roast was excellent. Highly recommend!
Lovely old fashioned pub with real fire. Such genuinely nice people working there and very tasty well cooked fairly traditional pub food. We loved it.
Love this gorgeous pub. Superb management and great vibes.
Simply fantastic . Great food great service atmosphere
The best roast beef anywhere. Always good
Great pub, great atmosphere, great service. The food was great taste and quality.
Wonderful pub. Wonderful food. Wonderful atmosphere. What more could you want?
Could have had more options for vegans/vegetarians also
They don’t take reservations. Your service is worthless at Brown Dog
We have been to the Brown Dog once before and went back to enjoy with some local Barnes friends on our own recommendation. We booked in advance and when we arrived, there was a set menu sign outside which we inquired about and the waiter couldn’t confirm if they were doing it. It was Monday of Christmas week which I would expect everything to be extra ready for guests but they were out of: all beef mains, oysters & cider on draft. The reason they gave was the delivery didn’t come in. On top of that the only thing that was really good was the sardine starter. The terrine was dry and flavourless, the crab main was not seasoned correctly and mostly brown crab meat (and £20!!!), the pies didn’t even look finished - like dough wasn’t cooked enough and the partridge was tough and over cooked. On top of that the waiter never checked on us for either course. And didn’t think to tell us what wasn’t available until we tried to order it and it was out. They allowed a table to sit next to us that had a chair back literally touching our table and their was a back door slamming constantly throughout our meal. Will not be back.
As always lovely food, service and vibe one of our favorite places around the are
We had the table not in the main restaurant but on the left side of the bar for a party of 8. Service excellent and not noisy at all. Unpretentious, relaxed venue for an office dinner
Lovely ambience. Had wild boar pie. Maybe just a bit too much salt in the mashed potato. Too much salt never a good idea as it hits you in the first taste and there is little you can do about it! also not sure that green beans ( from Kenya?) and spinach are winter vegetables which is I think what was on menu
Lovely pie though 😊
Couldn’t understand why, on a Tuesday evening, it took 45mins for 5 burgers and 2 steaks to be brought to our table, as well as being served before other tables who received their food first. Very drafty under the table to the extent that two guests couldn’t feel their feet.
Great food, friendly staff, really interesting seasonal menu.
Great atmosphere, really friendly staff, dogs welcome so it feels homely, yet the food is outstanding, the best "pub" dinner I have ever had and one of the best dinners (overall) I ever had in London. The best oysters ever in the UK.
Lovely 'country' pub - great looking menu with a good choice of dishes to suit all tastes. The starters were delicious, but three of us had the partridge as a main course and were disappointed. The lentil accompaniment was delicious, but the partridge itself had no flavour and was possibly undercooked as it was very difficult to strip the meat from the bones.
We then had to wait for ages for our puddings to be served - very tasty when they eventually came, but we were on the verge of telling them not to bother bringing them.
To give The Brown Dog their due, they knocked the price of the puddings off the bill - as they recognised that the wait was too long.
We know a lot of people who eat at The Brown Dog very regularly, and love it, so we will give them another try at some point.
Had a great lunch. I'll definitely go back regularly. Not cheap, but worth it.
Met up with an ex-colleague and his partner, meeting for first time, so important we had a place where we could relax and talk, with no problems with food or the order. The Brown Dog was perfect in this respect. The waiter was a delight, just the right level of attention. Food very good indeed. Have had a Sunday lunch here too, about 6 weeks ago, and that was also fantastic.
Lovely local gastropub which never let’s us down. Fabulous food, lovely ambiance and service. Couldn’t be more happy to have it so close to my house.
My main concern is that the menu is very overpriced. I paid £19 for what was essentially a salad with grilled chicken. Otherwise the service was slow and combined with all of the barking dogs I really couldn't wait to leave unfortunately.
always love the Brown Dog, friendly, great food and lovely ambience
Warm atmosphere, excellent staff and good food at lunch and dinner.
Monday night special - steak n’ chips. Beautiful steak, well worth every penny of the £16,50 deal
Lovely little pub in the backstreets of Barnes. Friendly staff and yummy food.....and ORGANIC house white! Yum!
This is quite a find - tucked away in the back streets of Barnes- good food at reasonable prices. It is a great little place.
Lovely pub, great staff, delicious food. I Highly recommend it.
We come to The Brown Dog quite regularly and always have a great experience. The team their are lovely if at times a little overwhelmed, however on this visit that was not the case. It was a lovely relaxing vibe. The food at Brown Dog is always impeccable. The starters are wonderful and hearty, along with the mains again it's rather hearty food but I always find the Steak is cooked to perfection and their chicken dishes are just sublime. There is no restaurant in Barnes that does Chicken better. The Sticky Toffee Pudding is a classic British dish that is done to perfection here. Even when stuffed, I can't not order it. The drink selection could be improved, as a big fan of craft beer the best options are one rotating tap of craft beer as well as the pubs own Brown Dog Ale which is great. I'd love to see some more IPA's, DIPA's, Lagers and Sours available. The garden is well kept and comfortable whilst the inside has a homely feel to it. The staff are helpful and have a lot of character. The great thing is that the menu is ever rotating. It seems that every month or so the menu changes, keeping things fresh and interesting on every visit. Also, in my opinion this is the best place to bring your dog. Our little Pomeranian boy adores it here and is able to sit comfortably with us whilst we eat.
Maybe i would.
I did have a hair in my main course (entwined in the spinach) Hake dish. I didn't make a fuss as it was my birthday celebration. To be honest I would have liked to have been offered the dish complimentary as a goodwill gesture. My dish was replaced and that was it. I was still charged (£19)
I would also like to stress that I was very sick during the night. I have no proof that this was what I ate at your pub and I am not making a big deal now. I am only telling you as I have received an email asking for my opinion on the brown dog.
But I would like to say this is my 2nd visit and i had a lovely meal first time around..and it is dog friendly, which is a bonus.
Good pub with great staff and delicious food. Nice garden out the back as well.
The food is great but the Sunday roasts are rather pricey.
Very nice gastropub. Great chips. Yummy sticky toffee pudding.
Lovely cosy pub, visited previously and chosen for a reunion of friends. Table booked for 8pm and one friend was delayed so we didn't order until 8.30pm. The food then took over 45 minutes to arrive. Three of us ordered bavette steak, mine was cold and the chips were soggy from red wine jus overload. Big cold mushroom very unappetising and only a few strands of watercress, chips didn't look 'hand cut'. The medium and medium rare orders were also mixed up.
My friend also had a problem with the only vegan choice, which was basically a selection of root vegetables. The waitress was very friendly and apologetic, brought my friend extra potatoes(!) after speaking to the chef, and offered us tea/coffee or dessert in recompense. Unfortunately we had to get back for babysitters so didn't have much time to enjoy this offer, and just shared a sorbet, peppermint tea and a glass of wine. Other people seemed to be enjoying their meals and we were the last to have food delivered, so it was just a lapse in focus and delivery.
Food quality has unfortunately decreased steadily over time.
