The Brown Dog
Our menu changes with the seasons and evolves daily ensuring the ingredients are of the freshest quality. At the weekends you can also come and enjoy one of our famous Sunday lunches.
We source our cask ales from local brewers and design our wine list to compliment our food.
Roast Hake, Samphire, Bisque & Brown Shrimp
Angus Flat Iron Steak, Roast Mushroom, Hand Cut Chips, Shallot & Red Wine Jus
Roast Striploin of British Beef, Yorkshire Pudding & Horseradish Cream
Brown Dog is our local pub and it's great. Lovely team, great food, good beers and a lovely chilled out atmosphere.
It's also one of the places where you can have a Tribute from St Austell Brewery in London.
We had the Sunday roast with all the trimmings and it was great and just what we needed on a rainy afternoon.
Brilliant food and service as always, and SUPER dog friendly
Great pub for drinks and dining! Very friendly staff and extremely good service. Marley who took our order was really helpful and smiley! Definitely recommend.
Let down by terrible service but good food and vibe
Good food and understanding staff who helped us switch tables to accommodate our large dog! Also brought us a round on the house when our food was delayed; and though they lacked vegan cheese made me a very good veg-only pizza. Only slight complaint is that house beer, Brown Dog, did not taste as though well kept.
Extremely friendly service, cote de beef was amazing. Super place.
Really accommodating staff and delicious vegetarian options
Really bad experience, the food took over an hour to arrive. Once it did the roast was extremely poor, sloppy, no veg but some boiled greens swimming in water. Three roast potatoes that were poorly cooked as almost waxy. A real shame as staff are lovely and compensated us for such a bad experience. Hopefully a one off as a lovely pub.
Overall a great experience - excellent food and service. Will continue to go back.
Food was delicious, lovely outdoor area and nice decor. I didn't find the service as welcoming as other pubs in Barnes but maybe they were over stretched with the sunny weather.
Highly recommend for a really chilled local vibe with exceptional food and service. Very nice atmosphere can’t wait to go again! Thank you especially to Paul who kept the drinks flowing.
Cheerful and dog-friendly - waiter was helpful but gave the impression that it was his first day in the job. Terrine was generous but a bit unsophisticated; grilled beetroot main course was very good, but the bavette steak was disappointing. Sticky toffee pud was good. A big plus was the willingness of the staff to serve a glass of Picpoul, although only full bottles were listed as available.
I wouldn't give a blanket 'yes' or 'no' recommendation to a friend - I'd explain the good and bad points as I saw them.
In spite of booking ahead we were offered a one sided table against a fireplace for five people. Because of this we opted to sit outside in the rear garden. Service was friendly and helpful but there was only one waitress serving so it was slow; took nearly an hour to get our first course. Food was great and service helpful and friendly, but under some stress.
The table offered was simply wrong and clearly they were overbooked.
What a lovely place. Stopped by for Monday night dinner in the garden. The pizzas were delicious and the service very friendly. Will certainly return for Sunday lunch.
Lovely food and great atmosphere with welcoming staff. Looking forward to returning again soon.
Fantastic food in a nice calm environment. The service was attentive and engaging.
Food was good but setting is unexceptional and it is rather overpriced for a Sunday roast in a local pub.
Lovely pub with a lovely garden. Service could be better for sure but didn't detract. Will go again for sure.
Incredible service and delicious food! Really friendly team and good atmosphere
V good Sunday roast and great value. Beats cooking!
Lovely and relaxing. Food fantastic. Service spot on. So pleased that they made my dogs feel at home
I had the Cote de Boeuf which was incredible! I could not recommend the food more.
The service is a little slow however it almost adds to the relaxed atmosphere. As a new local to the area I cannot wait to return
So lovely to go to a pub that’s original and unfussy - food was great as always and service fantastic ate far too much had to go home for a siesta!!!!!
Amazing pizzas, beautiful outdoor space, friendly staff.
Service was very slow to place our food order. The pub had no music playing so it felt very unwelcoming and devoid of ambience. We ordered the Bavette steak which was very tough. Our table next door had been told by the waitron that they shouldn’t order it, as it is tough. I wish she’d told us that ! Starters of sardines and fennel salad were good.
Good menu choice. Lovely / full dining room for a Tuesday night.
Very nice place and atmosphere. Food is fine. Recommended.
It’s such a nice place but one visit to another is a totally different experience. Foods great but more often than not they are struggling staff wise, it’s chaotic and you feel as if you are an inconvenience just being there. I still would recommend to try but I just hope that it would be on a good night that you go!
Great food and excellent service. Will definately go back.
Super friendly neighbourhood pub, restaurant and pizzaria with lovely garden - what's not to love!
Sunday in mid July with Hammersmith bridge reopened so a pleasant riverside walk down to Barnes to find the Brown Dog surprisingly empty - though given the heat this was a relief. Sunday lunch menu set days before when it is 30 degrees on the day is difficult for any restaurant, fortunately the grilled sardines and heirloom tomatoes fitted the bill as did a baked hake with crab bisque. However there were no salad mains, which if the weather persists will be a must. The roasts were still excellent quality for hardy Sunday lunchers. The puddings were chilled and a good way to finish.
The wine selection is good with some cooling whites and roses by the glass and reds kept chilled enough in the hot weather not to be insipid. But in that heat nothing would do to quench the thirst but a ginger beer shandy with the Brown Dog's own bitter and Fentimans GB .
Love the brown dog!!! Truly amazing food and service
Great food, imaginative menu using seasonal ingredients and all perfectly cooked. Will definitely be back!
Always just marvellous! Just the way they also love my dog!
Brilliant brilliant brilliant pub. Gorgeous pizza. Lovely staff. Nice outdoor for the summer time and cosy for the winter time.
The Brown Dog is magnificent. Lovely food, great wine and beer (the Steigl especially) and a lovely setting. A proper, good quality local that's one of the best in Barnes.
As always great food, great service and a relaxed vibe for Sunday lunch. What the Brown Dog do best is allow you to enjoy your meal at your own pace. You never feel rushed and you never feel ignored. Something very simple that a lot of places get wrong.
Friendly and relaxed service
Fantastic piece of hake. Pizza was also very good.
An easy night out with great food.
Great Pizzas in Barnes a must go place to try if you haven’t already been 😊
Great experience again last evening, great to see the pub doing well. Well worth the walk from Barnes village.
Very dog friendly, great people offering professional informal services.
Good wine, beer selection.
