We recently moved into the area and saw the great reviews on trip advisor so we booked a table as a special occasion to celebrate the wives birthdays which were both coming up.
Unfortunately we were so disappointed.
We booked a table for 4 people at 8pm and arrived 10 mins early. We were told the table wasn't quite ready and were asked to have a drink at the bar whilst the table was prepared. After 15 mins of waiting we inquired with the manager when the table would be ready and he said a few more minutes. After another 10 mins we asked the manager again and he said he cannot force people to leave the table if they were not ready. In fact he was quite rude and abrupt and didn't apologise. At 08:25 we suggested that we had had enough of waiting a round and were going to leave and suddenly our table was ready.
Once seated we were asked if we wanted any more drinks and then our order was taken. No offer was made for a round of drinks on the house for being kept waiting.
Our starters arrived within 20 minutes and immediately followed by our main courses.
Three of the party ordered steaks. The steak was bland and the peppercorn sauce was devoid of peppercorns. Whilst one of the table staff was clearing the plates she inquired if everything was ok with the meals, we mentioned the tasteless steaks and sauce and we were rudely told we should have mentioned something at the start.
The young lady who presented us with the bill was very pleasant and polite - the manager ought to take a leaf out of her book.
We sadly will never go back to this establishment.
Loved it, excellent food, service and atmosphere. No hesitation in recommending this venue.
We've been here lunch and evening meal, this place never disappoints! Steak cooked to perfection, generous portions of vegetables, yummy Ginger sticky pudding. The perfect birthday treat, as we had anticipated. I like the additional seafood menu and by the vast amount of mussels we saw coming from the kitchen these are hugely popular.
Steak cooked to perfection. Service and dessert were excelent
First visit, good range of food, presented well, served efficiently, pleasant atmosphere
Not unpleasant, but not such good food or service as before. Hosting/welcome could use some attention.
been here before a couple of weeks ago the service was fantastic, but on this occasion waited 15 minutes after being seated to place order, had to call a server on each occasion to place order, ask for drinks, and ask for bill. The place was not busy at all but the service was very poor
Staff very attentive and food good value for money .
The food is always good - never been disappointed - and at a reasonable price. We shall continue to use as one of our regulars dining places
Have been to this restaurant many times and never been disappointed. Good menu choice with locally sourced ingredients. Staff are friendly and welcoming and very efficient.
Such a lovely venue, quirky and atmospheric. Food is amazing home cooked and delicious. Cocktails are amazing too, can't wait to go there again soon!
Lovely food . Staff friendly efficient and good sense of humour
Like the relaxed atmosphere and the staff are always friendly, polite and helpful. Food is excellent and a little bit different from the usual pub grub offerings but at a very reasonable price. Never had a bad meal.
Excellent meal as always, decent value for money as well.
Very enjoyable evening at the Butlers arms, meal out with friends. Food very very good, nice atmosphere and very important to us the where very helpful, friendly and provided an excellent standard of service.
Food excellent. Felt seating was too squashed. Did not like the scruffy seating we needed before our table was ready
Not the first time we have visited. Everything was excellent but the stand out for us was the quality of the service - absolutely impeccable in every respect. Just perfect. The food was sumptuous too, of course. The king scallops starter is very special. Brilliant!
Nice pub and busy with good atmosphere. Been here in the past when offered a great menu choice and pricing. Menu limited with few extra choices on the wall.Think that this is now going out of the pub menu league and is offering the pub grub at restaurant prices which I felt was not justified for what we had and definitely not the value for money it use to be. There’s a lot of new restaurants popping up in the area which offer far better for the price. Place felt a bit grubby like everything needed a good scrub.Won’t be coming back here in a hurry.
Exceptional food and service. Will be returning soon
We use The Butlers Arms on a regular basis and have never had a bad meal. The Staff are always friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
Haven’t been to the Butlers Arms for a while Went online in the morning and got a table at a time that suited us but there weren’t many left. Lovely food great staff.
My only niggle is the noise level. My husband and I both have hearing problems , hard flooring and high ceilings make it really noisy and difficult for us to hear both staff and each other.
As usual a very good meal. The only real downside is that the tables are so close together.
nice fresh food, good service and a nice pleasant atmosphere. welcoming entrance and pleasant attentive staff
Very friendly staff and good quality food at a very reasonable price. It was our second visit and both times we have came away happy and with satisfied bellies. Keep up the good work!
Warm greeting on arrival, table service prompt and delivered to our table by a lovely waitress, food delicious as always, l had the tuna steak and husband fillet steak, l couldn’t finish mine as portion very generous so the waitress put mine in a doggy bag to bring home.
Thank you all at the Butlers Arms .
Enjoyed a get together with friends enjoying good food and ambiance and would recommend.
Our experience on Friday evening has meant that we will not be returning to the Butlers Arms, even though we have been regular customers for several years.
Our waitress, although friendly, didn’t really seem to be focused. The food was the worst we have had there, over cooked sea bass, over cooked chips (these were a side dish that was forgotten until we had to ask for them, they were too hard to eat, disappointing as the chips here have previously been to die for which is why we had them as a side!!!) and far too much oil on the vegetables that accompanied the fish dish.
We weren’t offered a dessert menu so we just caught the waitresses eye as she sliced bread and asked for our bill.
We put cash inside the money wallet, handed it to our waitress and then proceeded to move to a table outside to finish our drinks. She was picking up another money wallet from a nearby table as we did this. A couple of minutes later the waitress stuck her head out and looked over to us, quickly followed by a man who I presume was in charge. He asked if we were leaving our tab open to which we replied that we had paid, there was £50 in our money wallet. He went back inside, I followed and it became clear that the people on the nearby table may have left without paying.
So firstly, this tells you how the young staff were not on the ball with paying attention to collecting money from diners, even though these people needed to walk past several staff members to leave, and secondly it just topped off an already disappointing evening to feel that they thought we were trying to do a runner!!!!
It’s a shame because it’s always been our ‘go to’ for a nice evening out and our experience on Friday was far from that,
Lovely atmosphere, busy, great choice of drinks and food, reasonable prices, food quality was excellent. Recommended.
An enjoyable lunch at a good price. Staff were friendly and helpful. Woukd definately recommend eating here.
Went to the Butlers Arms for an "early bird" meal I.e. 20% off if ordered before 19.00. Excellent food. We both had fish- Sea Bass fillets for me. Scottish Hake for my wife. Gluten free bread was provided for my partner who s ceoliac. Crewe Brûlée and Espresso Gelato for dessert. Also a plant of Timothy Taylor's Landlord in good form and a decent Sauvignon Blanc for the wife. Very enjoyable all round as it invariably is at this establishment. Highly recommended
Friendly staff & pleasant 50's style decor. Food was excellent with a reasonable cost for three courses. Will go again.
1st visit, found it online through trip adviser. Plenty of parking. Staff very friendly and informative. The food was very tasty and fresh, full of flavour. Will definatly visit again and have recommended to friends. Hadnt heard of it before so very pleased with our visit.
What a fantastic find! Great pub, ample parking, incredible food for a very reasonable price: £17.50 for 3 courses. Friendly, attentive staff, interesting decor. Highly recommend.
Fabulous meal and good value, nice atmosphere with very good service.
Staff were very attentive and clearly working very hard. I did leave feedback for the food, stating it was very greasy. Although I did not ask for anything to compensate for this, I felt the restaurant should have offered something. Even if it was just removing the supplement from my dessert as a show of good faith. We went to the restaurant for my birthday and although I was wearing a birthday badge, no attempts were made to make the occasion special - not even a happy birthday. Whilst the restaurant did nothing wrong, they definitely didn’t inspire me to want to visit again.
Really enjoyed our meal....food was really tasty and the service was friendly and helpful 👍
Excellent as ever. Just love this place.
Absolutely lovely pub. The decor is really quirky and interesting. The corned beef hash is an absolutely gorgeous dish which is perfect every time.
Lovely food as usual. Friendly staff. Excellent value. Quirky decor.
Good food, varied menu, quick service & its within a walk!
