The Canny Man's
Wonderful Sunday dinner with some lovely, friendly and helpful staff.
Lovely food, attentive service. Excellent Covid measures in place.
Lots of unusual things to look at on the walls.
Excellent food, superb characterful building but service was apalling even though the place was half full. This was recognised by management and bill was halved. A one off I hope, but won't be back.
Really good food, specifically great seafood, eclectic open sandwich selection and wild ice cream ‘cocktails’. All accompanied by their very personal service and unique Canny Man atmosphere/decor.
Distancing was good and well run.
It's a MUST in Edinburgh. Located in the beautiful Morningside, it's a very beautiful restaurant, with a complete and passionate menu.
Love the white table cloths and French style service
Always enjoy my visits to the Canny Mans, lovely pub, great food and fine Ales.
Was really good, considering the situation theyve dealt fantastically with it, making you still feel safe whilst gettin the pub feel.
Delicious food and in the main great service. One woman waitress was unfriendly and behaved as if she didn't want us there. At one point she walked away without us being able to finish our drinks order. However, the other waiter and waitress made up for her poor service and we're incredibly friendly, helpful and attentive. A lovely, pub full of character and ambience. Would definitely go back.
Great place with superb service and Superb food.
Lovely people. Excellent service. Great ambiance and lots of interesting things on the walls. Quality food. Good prices.
Very helpful staff and wonderful food, enjoyable evening
A great place, full of character. Marvellous food and wine!
Excellent place to dine first time at Canny Man really enjoyed it.. thank you
If you're looking for a lovely Sunday lunch in a pub garden this is the place to go, but we had a bad service experience. We had a really nice afternoon sat outside in the sunshine. I ordered the pork roast dinner and my boyfriend had the beef. The food was great.
The only reason I haven't rated it too highly is due to the disappointing service. We were served by a woman who made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable from the outset. Originally we sat indoors; there was nobody else in there and because our waitress was so rude and blunt, we nearly left altogether. However, luckily I asked if we could move outdoors where there was a really nice atmosphere that made up for how cold and unhelpful our waitress was. I asked her what wheat free beers they have and she stared at me blankly and then said "I don't know". I asked her if she could find out and she said I could look it up if I wanted and wrote them down for me... It turned out that they did (tennents is a barley based beer). We still left her a generous tip but felt we should leave a comment so that this can change in the future! A man who worked there came over at one point to check everything was okay with our food and he was really nice so it wasn't everyone, just our one waitress.
it is our favourite pub just 15 minutes from the city centre, there are not many pubs like it ! would als suggest a stay at the Lanes Hotel literary just next to th epub fab place.
The perfect place for a cosy Sunday lunch with loved ones! The staff couldn’t be more helpful and attentive! X
Brilliant find. Unique establishment. The fixed price menus were very good. All in all, good service, great food and beer / wine.
First time my sons had been there and they were blown away by the whole vibe. We all thought our waiter was brilliant.
Went for Sunday lunch meat and gravy were lovley, veg was nice but not enough for 4 people. Drinks were lovley wine overpriced (£15 bottle for £55!)
Nice dinner with friends on a very busy post rugby evening, thank you.
What a lovely wee find. This pub is so charming and full of character. All staff friendly and on the ball. Very busy yet still very attentive. Relaxed dining at its best.
The Canny Man's never disappoints. Friendly, great service and fantastic atmosphere
All in an ambience that is unique to “The Canny Man’s”
Excellent food as I’d had reported. But dreadful service. Long wait for menus, drinks and order. Starters arrived before our drinks. Our waiter seemed rushed off his feet. And table a bit like being in the middle of the M25. But good atmosphere, excellent food and would go back.
We enjoyed our visit but, as has been the case over the years at this venue, the welcome and ambience is cool. I’m made to feel like I’m intruding rather than a welcome guest. Can’t quite put my finger on it but it’s just not what I’m looking for. The food was lovely.
Sunday lunch with elderly parents in this great Edinburgh and beyond institution. Friendly, helpful but not over the top service coupled with fine Sunday lunch made it a splendid occasion. Highly recommended.
Great food and great service too. Very good value for money and a lovely atmosphere. We’ll be back!
Brilliant lunch as usual, just love the Canny Man,
Confused when we first arrived as not clear who to approach regarding our booking.
Shown to table which wasn’t cleared of previous setting.
Everything seemed vague and quality of service unimportant.
We did however enjoy the food and The unusual experience.
Perfect for a midweek lunch with my 85year old father.
My sister and I enjoy going to The Canny Man's as an annual but indulgent treat. The food was lovely, the service was good, as was the atmosphere. It is quite pricey though, but once a year, fine.
