The Capital Grille - Washington DC
Our co-worker chose the Capital Grille for her farewell luncheon. The service exceeded everyone's expectations. Daniel was pleasant, knowledgeable about the menu options, and made the event an OUTSTANDING experience. The lemonade and lobster bisque were delicious, and everyone enjoyed their food choices.
We had a wonderful meal and even more wonderful waitress. Highly recommend for special occasion or simple date night!
Our first visit to The Capital Grille was a winner. The Stoli Doli signature martini infused with pineapple was a big hit. The mouth watering filet mignon elicited oohs and ahhs, and the NY strip with a special spice rub will lure one of our friends back. Friendly, knowledgeable, efficient service topped off a great dining experience. We'll return!
My husband and I have been to Capital Grill many times and are always satisfied. Unfortunately, tonight missed the mark for the first time. I’m not sure if it was because it was the last day of restaurant week, which as a former food service professional I can understand is often frustrating and exhausting, but the service was sub par and both our stakes were over cooked. Neither of our meals were inedible, and I HATE sending back food especially, expensive food, unless I really just can’t eat it. Mostly because I understand the food cost implications in the industry.
That being said I did inform our server that both our stakes were way over cooked, but I didn’t want to trouble him or the kitchen for a new one and he shrugged said, “ok” and walked away. Like I said I didn’t want or expect a new meal but at least an “I’m sorry” and the offer to get something else would have been appreciated. It genuinely didn’t seem like he cared. Which was disappointing and uncharacteristic of the service I am used to at the Capital Grill.
We love restaurant week and we love the generous pour.
The Generous Pour combined with Restaurant Week is a deal that can't be beat!
Our waiter Robert made our night, he was a great server and the food was delicious.
Excellent service from the Maitre D who seated us a few minutes early to our attentive and helpful waiter. Drinks, steaks and desserts were superb.
We ate here relatively early because of a later tour. Our 3:00 o’clock dinner meal was acceptable but underwhelming. Fortunately they were offering a $35.00 “ restaurant week” meal which helped soften our mediocre experience. We were seated promptly by a gracious hostess but our waiter was rather matter of fact but I could also overlook that. We both chose a wedge salad w blue cheese which was delicious. My wife ordered the salmon and I ordered the Kona bone in strip medium rare. Our disappointment started with the 30 min gap between the salad and the entree. Unacceptable as they really weren’t busy. When the food did arrive my steak was closer to medium than it should have been but was tasty. My wife’s salmon was pretty bland . The cheesecake dessert was good but the flourless chocolate cake was just ok. Ordered off the menu this meal would have been over $200 but the special menu cut that in half. Even w this I prob would choose a different restaurant next time.. 3.5/5 at best.. I hope you have a better experience..
Mash potatoes were great.
Dessert (cheesecake) was on a smaller side for the price.
Steak (medium well) was a little too charred, couldn’t even eat the whole thing. I’ve heard great things about this place, so naturally, I expected a better quality in grilled steak.
My husband and I were in DC for our anniversary and decided to celebrate at The Capital Grille. We had a beautiful table by the window. Our server, Joey, was sweet and made us feel welcome and comfortable. Everything we ordered was delicious and cooked to perfection. We would definitely come back if in the area again.
Restaurant week. menu was ok but the upgrades were unreasonable. 15$ for lobster bisque and 12$ for a side of mashed potato’s. Salmon portion was extremely small. Definitely not worth a $52 lunch.
Food was great and service was outstanding.
Terrific experience - wonderful food and incredible service!
Great food but service was slow probably because I was a single diner.
Six of us gathered to celebrate a birthday. The group expanded to eight, then seven. The server was extremely accommodating and flexible with all the coming and going. The food here is always excellent, and this evening was no exception. I am especially appreciative that I was not charged a fee although I brought in a cake for the birthday celebrant. Impeccable food, impeccable service, wonderful evening. Many thanks, Capital Grille!
As always the food was scrumptious and the service superb. Regularly there for business lunches, family dinners and holiday celebrations. My favorite downtown go-to fine dining restaurant.
Everyone I brought with me, really enjoyed the food, the service of keeping our water glasses filled was excellent. Everyone told me that they really liked the food, the presentation of the food, and the actual taste of the food. I like that they allow you to upgrade to a steak which was excellent for a little more money and still get the restaurant week. Lot of people would say this is great to do a celebration type dinner since everything was cooked perfectly. The waitress and all of the staff was very attentive with so many people.
Ended up at the Chevy Chase location, staff very helpful food excellent
Food and ambiance were great. Wayne our server was wonderful. All in all a great evening!!!
Had lunch here during restaurant week. It's an excellent value and the New York strip was cooked perfectly. Highly recommend!
Good food, dim atmosphere, good drinks. This is what restaurant week is for. Thanks
One of the best restaurants in the area. Always a treat to eat there. Service excellent and food delicious.
An awesome-as-always Restaurant Week menu at the Pennsylvania Avenue location, which is on the site of the 1830s "Epicurean Eating House" operated by a formerly enslaved chef, Beverly Snow, as told in the non-fiction "Snow-Storm in August: The Struggle for American Freedom and Washington's Race Riot of 1835."
I've been to Capital Grille in Chevy Chase and Tysons Corner several times and this was my third time at this location (DC). I know it's always great in terms of service and food.
On Aug 12, 2019, my best friend and I decided to eat here but our experience was not the same as previous experience at CG. Our waiter, Charles, was kinda bit*hy giving an attitude from the way he served us. First I thought it was just me so I asked my best friend about it and she actually thought the same thing. I paid attention that he served very well to white couple next to us and a bunch of white girls on the other side. Is it because we're Asians so we got served differently? or maybe he just had a bad day.
I didn't know it was restaurant week when i reserved the table. We both decided to order from restaurant week menu and they were delicious as always. We had exactly the same. To start we had clam chowder which was amazing. For second course we had bone in dry aged NY Strip which was surprisingly generous portion (18oz) served with mashed potatoes and French bean. For dessert we had espresso cake. We were thinking to get more drink but we felt he was rushing us out by dropping the check while my friend still eating her dessert. We just paid the bill, walked out and went to The Smith to get some drink.
The Capital Grille is in my top 5 picks for DC restaurants. The food is always delicious, well presented and the service was impeccable. I recommend this restaurant all the time.
Restaurant Week was lovely and tasty. Wonderful service!
I went to the Capital Grille with my co-workers for a restaurant week lunch and had a very enjoyable lunch. I ordered the clam chowder, filet, and cheesecake and everything was delicious.
Celebrating my wife’s birthday and it was fantastic! Ask for Manuel’s table. FIRST CLASS SERVICE!
Everything was amazing. The food was perfect and the service was on point.
Amazing service! The hosts made us feel so welcome and truly made this a great night! Pam, our waitress, was also so wonderful! Thank you so much for making our night so special!
The Food was delicious, the wines in the “Generous Pour” were fabulous and the service provided by Tiffany was outstanding!
This place is awesome. Superb service and selection of dishes. I will be back.
What an amazing dinner and service! You guys never disappoint!
Jack our server was incredible.
The food was excellent, we had both fish (bass) and steak (bone in filet). The drinks as always were near perfection. The restaurant is very welcoming and comfortable. The only issue was that it’s a little noisy. It was a business meeting and conversation was central to our purpose. Having said that, the food, the drinks, the wait staff, and the general ambience were all excellent.
Excellent service and food. Great dining experience.
One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Francisco was outstanding and the filet was cooked perfectly.
Worth the splurge. Anyone who goes here hopefully knows it costs a lot, so any reviews that say it's expensive should be obvious. With that said, as long as you get what you pay for, that is the important part. They nailed everything. Our filers were the best I may have ever had. Even the Manhattan was great. Lobster mac and cheese was soooooo good. Server was just right. Hope to get back.
Great birthday dinner!
