The Carpenters Arms
All good but couldn't park at the pub as no spaces left, very few other places to park nearby.
Have eaten here before and been satisfied but did not find our experience this visit to be so good. We were not in the main dining room and felt a bit uncomfortable. There had been a large table with a family of several childre who made a terrible mess, I understand this I have children however, the area was not cleared when the family left so we were left facing this mess, not acceptable. Food was ok but when served our sweet no cutlery and had to wait until a waiter appeared to request some. Not the best dining out experience for us.
Booked at last minute on line due to reviews. We had a gorgeous meal..atmosphere was cosy and able to have a conversation between the four of us. Wednesday night was steak night..2 steaks and a bottle of house wine which was excellent value.
The garden room Enron was wonderful, modern and very clean....
Would highly recommend The Carpenters Arms..
Only issue was tipping the waiting staff...the tips do not directly go to them.
A long overdue date with my wife. Food was great, I had sea bass which was cooked to perfection and my wife had the burger. We shared a lemon and mascarpone cheese cake for desert, that was fit! The Malbec was a great choice for the wine.
Excellent value on a Wednesday Evening, Steak night.
I cannot understand why the place is not full!
Lovely atmosphere, attentive staff, ( when quiet a little too attentive!)
Excellent food and extensive menu.
Good service and pleasant dinning experience
Liked the fact it was dog friendly the staff member brought our dog a bowl of water
Really lovely environment in pub
The staff were attentive and friendly
We all had fish and chips with home made tartar sauce generous portion and good quality
Look forward to our next visit
Lovely setting, fantastic food, not somewheee I knew about until someone bought me a gift voucher, I’ll certainly be returning.
We've been going to the Carpenters Arms for a few years now and have never been disappointed. The food is always of a high quality and there is an excellent choice of beers, wines, etc. The service is of a high quality too with Paulo, who took over as manager late last year, running a happy & professional ship!
The dining area is quite large & varied so you can choose to sit in an open-plan room, or somewhere a little more intimate. When the weather is fine, there are a few tables outside too - both at the front and overlooking the garden & vale to the rear. Overall, this is very good pub & restaurant (there's a nice bar area too so can visit for just a drink) and is also worth treating yourself for something a little special.
Drove 70 miles to take my valentine to a gastropub I knew would deliver on great food wine and ambiance and once again wasn’t disappointed
Great food, great service and beautiful setting. Good selection on the menu and wide range of drinks
We had lunch yesterday in the bar together with our well behaved collie. The food was very good although I would have preferred the seasonal vegetables (shredded cabbage, etc) to have been cooked rather than raw. The pudding was excellent. The ambiance was good but it was very cold in the area where we were eating (round the corner from the bar).
Food good, and the service was excellent, but I was charged £3.85, for still water which I was surprised at. We were asked if we would like water on the table, but was not asked if we wanted bottled water or tap water, if I was given the option it would have been tap water, I presume there would have been no charge.
Very nice lunch in pleasant surroundings. We were meeting up with old friends so a quiet ambiance was appreciated, however the restaurant was only about a quarter full. I think the snow had put people off travelling. It did not impact our enjoyment at all and we had a lovely meal with attentive service.
Good Quality Food, Good Selection, Great setting and environment, Attentive / Discrete Staff
Had excellent veggie stirfry, when I said I didn't want curry again. Best meal I've had at the Carpenter's Arms ever.
We have been here before and it was wonderful to go back.new years day was fantastic, great atmosphere, everyone was so upbeat, staff and customers alike.
Food was amazing,we brought friends from the south and they just loved it.
There wasn’t a thing we could fault, and the staff were just lovely and service perfect.
We visited between Christmas & New Year for Saturday lunch. It was very busy with 3 large parties booked in when we were there, this did not have an adverse impact on the service or food - all very good!
Very attentive service and welcoming despite our booking at short notice. Highly recommend :-)
Came here for a birthday meal with a couple of friends, chose an early booking as we had a child with us.
Nice and quiet to begin with and as it got later it got busier but was a nice atmosphere. A very cosy countryside restaurant.
I often get worried with a la carte places as they can be almost to fancy and overpriced but this place had it just right! The food was still normal pub grub with a rich, local taste!
Will definitely be returning next year
We've been coming to the Carpenters for a few years and are never disappointed. It is part of a smallish chain (Provenance Inns) covering the mid N.Yorkshire area; it is one of their star venues.
The manager, Paolo, has recently taken over having moved from another of their pubs, The Punch Bowl at Marton. He is always welcoming, friendly and accommodating.
The food is of a high standard and the menu changes seasonally. There are also some good local beers.
Warm and cosy decor, warm and friendly greeting , food was very good . The wine was excellent . The picture shows my butternut squash curry 👌👌
A regular meeting place, with a good menu, and delicious food. My calves liver and bacon was delicious, although slightly too large a portion for me. Lemon and mascarpone cheesecake very good, and perfect portion size.
Great ambiance, food and service. Have been several times and have always enjoyed my visit. Also have stayed over once and the rooms are great.
Food was amazing. The best burger I have ever had. !!!!
Nice and quiet on a Thursday lunch time , very attentive staff and excellent service. Good menu and very tasty food although portions were a bit in the small side . Many years since I have been here and I was extremely impressed by the way it has been extended and re designed . Planning to return for evening meal and overnight stay.
If you haven’t been here before ... you need to!
Great ambiance and service. Lovely rooms, definitely worth staying over for a special treat.
Eaten at the Carpenter's Arms many times and in general it has been good. Food always good in particular. The service on the 17th Oct was poor despite it not being desperately busy. Arrived 7.30 - didn't leave until 10.00 owing to having to wait for service ( not out of choice ). Had to go in search of staff on two occasions. Certainly did not warrant a service tip !
We visited for the Wednesday Steak Night. Two medium rare steaks one was excellent the other not so good. House red wine a perfect accompaniment. The desserts - sorbet and the cheeseboard, very nicely presented. On the whole a good experience. Good food good service and ambiance. We would return when in the area again.
We had a excellent meal served by very friendly staff, it was very good value and our table was waiting for us when we arrived.
Fabulous meal service and atmosphere lovely evening
We have spent many happy times here at this beautiful venue. Beautiful old building with stone floors ( so well behaved dogs are welcome)
This time we brought our Canadian relatives to taste this interesting menu, full of pleasant surprises and beautiful to see. They had never enjoyed such delicious food and were pleased to find out that the ingredients were locally sourced too.
The staff are outstanding , helpful but not overbearing. You feel you can spend as much time as you want eating and chatting.
The drinks menu is extensive with local hand pulled beers and a delicious cocktail menu too. My gin cocktail contained a sprig of mint which they gathered from the garden at the back of the buildings !
This is why we travel about one hour to come here. Definitely worth it.
Beautiful country views enhance the ambiance too, what more do you want.
You can also stay here for an extra special treat. We stay in the garden rooms.
Excellent customer service and great food
Excellent views from the back of the restaurant.
Menu offers good choices and the food is reasonably priced
Waited over 20 minutes for someone to come and take my order. When nobody arrived, we paid our drinks bill and left
Not some where I will return to in a hurry. First of all we had a call an hour before we were due to have dinner to tell us there were cancelling our booking as a the previous party had not left from lunch. Our meal was a 6pm and there was 10 of us. So we agreed to have our meal at 630pm to give them time to clear up.
The food reads fantastic on the menu but not as good on the plate. I thought for the food was very over priced and nothing special. The best part of the dinner was the sweet, so at least we left on a high!
The staff were very friendly and helpful, thank you to them.
Absolutely love it here, regularly come for special occasions or just a quiet date night. Great service and lovely food.
Lovely food and good to be able to bring the dog with us. Very helpful and amenable staff. Even though they were short staffed on Saturday night they served us well and di not keep us waiting. Will definitely come back again.
This could be an excellent restaurant with great ambience and good service. However, the food is very ordinary and pricey as a result.
Lovely pub with great atmosphere, if busy expect to have to wait, but food worth waiting for!
Very friendly staff and service. Food was hot and tasty
