The Carpenters Arms
We are regular diners and you never fail to get everything right.
Very poor quality of steaks. I can cook better myself for £3.50 from lidl. Considering they're charging top prices (£26 from memory) these need to be right.
I have been to the Carpenters twice in the last Month with my family of four and I can say without any doubt all of the food we have chosen on both occasions is outstanding.
The Carpenters Arms team are definately on top of their game at the moment with consistent excellent food being served.
I hope this continues
Lovely steak meal with wine we decided to have a different bottle of wine to the one that was with the offer and were advised we need only pay the difference On checking the bill when at home we realised we had been charged the full amount We telephoned and were informed that there had been s mistake and apologised and we were refunded immediately
Excellent service Thankyou
Amazing place and food! We come back each year to North Yorkshire and this pub is always on the list. Staff are extremely polite even though we always arrive in our riding gear, we’ve always been welcome! We’ll be back next year no doubt.
A party of four with three courses each 7 pints and a nice bottle of red wine cost £170 which is considered good value for money given the great quality of food and service.
The food, all three courses was first class and of particular note was the moules mariner, cod and the steak and kidney pie which were outstanding
Consistency applied with the Black Sheep being onform as always as was the service and friendly nature of the staff
A very positive experience overall and credit to the Team at the Carpenters Arms.
Fantastic location. Great layout that for initmate eating or just having a drink. Food excellent.
Food, beautifully presented. Just slightly overpriced for the quantity of food. We had monkfish and lentils, but felt the amount of fish was small considering the price.
Friendly staff where everything is
What has happened to this place. Not how it once was. Didn't look overly clean. Definitely needs 're decorating. My wife ordered fish cake to start. It was warm on the outside and stone cold as in chilled on the inside. Situation was handled professionally though. Would not rush back
Great food and service everytime
Definitely worth the drive
We enjoyed our dinner, it’s location is beautiful, felt it was expensive for what you got, the wine is over priced, would think twice before returning
I'm just sorry that we got there so late and didn't have time to really appreciate the food you have to offer, I'll just have to come back and spend more time enjoying the wonderful Carpenters Arms.
One of the best venues of the best small chains of country inns. The welcome is as spectacular as the view from the dining room (over the Vale of York across to the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales.
Good food, well presented without beng fussy. You can always tell how well a place is managed by how they cope with getting it wrong. We had a minor hitch when our server admissted that she had hit the wrong keys on the till, and presented us with the wrong main course; but this was corrected without a murmur and promptly. Living locally, we have no occasion to try the accommodation, but the rooms, ranged around an open "cloister" look more luxurious than monastic! One of our regular choices!
Another superb meal, the steak and ale pie is amazing
Great lunch in a beautiful setting - will definitely return
Just moved to Norfolk and our daughter was visiting. I actually looked online for pub/restaurants and the
Carpenters Arms came up first. We looked at the menu and decided to book a table.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening, as always!
Well looked after & great food
Lovely pub in a pretty village. Very good food choice and well cooked.
On a chilly day the large restaurant room was welcoming with the burning stove and a warm atmosphere. A light, airy room with plenty of space between tables and plenty to see outside. We were warmly welcomed and service managed to steer a welcome course between over-attentive and neglectful. The menu is varied and provided something for everyone including the vegetarian version of the Cobb salad for me, very tasty and attractively presented. I didn't pay much attention to the prices as I was a guest but come quite often and find it good value for money. My companions from the Isle of Man were very impressed and envious, as they say that they find standards fluctuate greatly on the island, whereas I have found the high standards at the Carpenter's Arms very consistent. Thank you.
This was a first visit for myself and my wife for a Sunday lunch. They were busy and getting a parking space in the generously sized carpark was only possible as someone else left.
The welcome inside was first class, we were shown to our table almost immediately and the whole meal was really excellent. There were sufficient cheerful staff on hand to keep a large restaurant properly managed, delays were at a minimum. We will repeat the visit on another occasion
We meet up there regularly and are always very happy with their service and food -thank you :) !
All good but couldn't park at the pub as no spaces left, very few other places to park nearby.
Have eaten here before and been satisfied but did not find our experience this visit to be so good. We were not in the main dining room and felt a bit uncomfortable. There had been a large table with a family of several childre who made a terrible mess, I understand this I have children however, the area was not cleared when the family left so we were left facing this mess, not acceptable. Food was ok but when served our sweet no cutlery and had to wait until a waiter appeared to request some. Not the best dining out experience for us.
Booked at last minute on line due to reviews. We had a gorgeous meal..atmosphere was cosy and able to have a conversation between the four of us. Wednesday night was steak night..2 steaks and a bottle of house wine which was excellent value.
The garden room Enron was wonderful, modern and very clean....
Would highly recommend The Carpenters Arms..
Only issue was tipping the waiting staff...the tips do not directly go to them.
A long overdue date with my wife. Food was great, I had sea bass which was cooked to perfection and my wife had the burger. We shared a lemon and mascarpone cheese cake for desert, that was fit! The Malbec was a great choice for the wine.
Excellent value on a Wednesday Evening, Steak night.
I cannot understand why the place is not full!
Lovely atmosphere, attentive staff, ( when quiet a little too attentive!)
Excellent food and extensive menu.
Good service and pleasant dinning experience
Liked the fact it was dog friendly the staff member brought our dog a bowl of water
Really lovely environment in pub
The staff were attentive and friendly
We all had fish and chips with home made tartar sauce generous portion and good quality
Look forward to our next visit
Lovely setting, fantastic food, not somewheee I knew about until someone bought me a gift voucher, I’ll certainly be returning.
We've been going to the Carpenters Arms for a few years now and have never been disappointed. The food is always of a high quality and there is an excellent choice of beers, wines, etc. The service is of a high quality too with Paulo, who took over as manager late last year, running a happy & professional ship!
The dining area is quite large & varied so you can choose to sit in an open-plan room, or somewhere a little more intimate. When the weather is fine, there are a few tables outside too - both at the front and overlooking the garden & vale to the rear. Overall, this is very good pub & restaurant (there's a nice bar area too so can visit for just a drink) and is also worth treating yourself for something a little special.
Drove 70 miles to take my valentine to a gastropub I knew would deliver on great food wine and ambiance and once again wasn’t disappointed
Great food, great service and beautiful setting. Good selection on the menu and wide range of drinks
We had lunch yesterday in the bar together with our well behaved collie. The food was very good although I would have preferred the seasonal vegetables (shredded cabbage, etc) to have been cooked rather than raw. The pudding was excellent. The ambiance was good but it was very cold in the area where we were eating (round the corner from the bar).
Food good, and the service was excellent, but I was charged £3.85, for still water which I was surprised at. We were asked if we would like water on the table, but was not asked if we wanted bottled water or tap water, if I was given the option it would have been tap water, I presume there would have been no charge.
Very nice lunch in pleasant surroundings. We were meeting up with old friends so a quiet ambiance was appreciated, however the restaurant was only about a quarter full. I think the snow had put people off travelling. It did not impact our enjoyment at all and we had a lovely meal with attentive service.
Good Quality Food, Good Selection, Great setting and environment, Attentive / Discrete Staff
Had excellent veggie stirfry, when I said I didn't want curry again. Best meal I've had at the Carpenter's Arms ever.
We have been here before and it was wonderful to go back.new years day was fantastic, great atmosphere, everyone was so upbeat, staff and customers alike.
Food was amazing,we brought friends from the south and they just loved it.
There wasn’t a thing we could fault, and the staff were just lovely and service perfect.
We visited between Christmas & New Year for Saturday lunch. It was very busy with 3 large parties booked in when we were there, this did not have an adverse impact on the service or food - all very good!
