Excellent restaurant in a lovely location. Very good choice of food on the menu & resonable prices. Would definitely return for another enjoyable meal
Only fair because we had the Yorkshire platter - this was everything fried. No vegetables at all just a potato fritter (may have been some cheese in it somewhere), two crab cakes - again not very tasty, a very small fish goujon in batter with a small portion of chips, and a deep fried scotch egg. None of it was great, and was served with four pots of mayo/chutney presumably to give it some flavour.
Took friends. The risotto was cold, watery and tasteless. The fish and chips were not to their normal standard. Don’t know what fish it was, but the texture was not nice.
Delicious food at a very reasonable price compared to similar local restaurants. 5 star service, superb menu. There's nothing to dislike here (and believe me, I'm picky)
We're regulars but haven't been able to visit for some time because we moved to York. It was truly lovely to return and, if anything, the quality of the food and service was better than ever. The menu seemed to be more accessible too with something for everyone and to suit every budget. We'll be back as soon as we can.
Good basic pub grub
Very good food as per usual, fast and friendly service! However there was a very loud pre wedding party in smashing glasses and singing, thankfully our table was far enough away it didn’t effect us too much
We visit the Carpenters at least monthly and during this visit the standards were consistently high with very good food and service in great surroundings
Always a pleasure to visit this establishment - a blend of good food, accommodation (which I don't sample living locally) and atmospheric village pub. Good food, reasonably priced and service which is friendly, and attentive without being intrusive.
Fantastic food and wonderful service. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Lovely food, nice friendly staff, not rushed, relaxing meal.
Took my parents here at the weekend have been many times before but today was very poor some of the reason for that was they had had a power cut in the morning
Right from choosing a table to paying the bill it was disappointing
We could have a table in the window as it was ‘booked’ but no one came in our time, the first bottle of wine was unavailable the second took ages to find but was found eventually our starters were lovely but the risotto was bland and very wet the desert was enjoyed by my father
Then to cap it all the bill was wrong.
On a busy day I could accept that but on this day it was very quiet and although the staff were very nice and doing they’re best they lacked basic knowledge of the menu and wine list which I appreciate is not they’re fault but it annoying
Sorry it’s such a bad review but as I love the restaurant normally we will visit again and hope we have a better experience
Carpenters Arms provided lovely food and good service.
Only drawback was the physical table we were sat at, where you legs go under the table was too low and uncomfortable.
Service attentive but not intrusive. Food & drink brought quite speedily.
This was my first visit to 'The Carpenter's Arms' but it definitely will not be my last. There was a lovely, welcoming, atmosphere as soon as you walked into the room. The service was very attentive and the food was delicious. Really looking forward to my return visit so that I can sample some more tempting choices from the menu. The views from the veranda area are stunning as well.
Had a great time for a birthday meal
It was OK, but nothing special and so I would not recommend to friends as it is a bit remote and better offers are closer.
I leave a good review but it always annoys me I need to write 50 charachters --- but yes good review
Excellent food and staff
Could do with some music as other tables were quite loud
Lovely restaurant, great service and excellent food.
I have always liked the Carpenters Arms for its food and atmosphere. Staff are pleasant and efficient. However whilst the food was again excellent on this latest visit, good value, cooked and presented well, the new menu wasn't to our liking. All our courses were taken off the specials which were excellent but what would we have done without them?
Excellent all round and near beautiful views the Moors from the terrace.
Splendid welcome and lovely evening.
The service and quality of food was very good. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
A peaceful country pub/restaurant in a lovely setting. Food is excellent at reasonable prices and the service is very good. Definitely recommended.
Enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch here. The roast beef was probably the nicest I have eaten. My wife had a really nice risotto. The portions were good without being too large. Service was welcoming, friendly and efficient
We dine here regularly. This evening seemed slightly less focused than usual. Ambience great, staff ok, etc. We'll be back cos we love it.
We are regular diners and you never fail to get everything right.
Very poor quality of steaks. I can cook better myself for £3.50 from lidl. Considering they're charging top prices (£26 from memory) these need to be right.
I have been to the Carpenters twice in the last Month with my family of four and I can say without any doubt all of the food we have chosen on both occasions is outstanding.
The Carpenters Arms team are definately on top of their game at the moment with consistent excellent food being served.
I hope this continues
Lovely steak meal with wine we decided to have a different bottle of wine to the one that was with the offer and were advised we need only pay the difference On checking the bill when at home we realised we had been charged the full amount We telephoned and were informed that there had been s mistake and apologised and we were refunded immediately
Excellent service Thankyou
Amazing place and food! We come back each year to North Yorkshire and this pub is always on the list. Staff are extremely polite even though we always arrive in our riding gear, we’ve always been welcome! We’ll be back next year no doubt.
A party of four with three courses each 7 pints and a nice bottle of red wine cost £170 which is considered good value for money given the great quality of food and service.
The food, all three courses was first class and of particular note was the moules mariner, cod and the steak and kidney pie which were outstanding
Consistency applied with the Black Sheep being onform as always as was the service and friendly nature of the staff
A very positive experience overall and credit to the Team at the Carpenters Arms.
Fantastic location. Great layout that for initmate eating or just having a drink. Food excellent.
Food, beautifully presented. Just slightly overpriced for the quantity of food. We had monkfish and lentils, but felt the amount of fish was small considering the price.
Friendly staff where everything is
What has happened to this place. Not how it once was. Didn't look overly clean. Definitely needs 're decorating. My wife ordered fish cake to start. It was warm on the outside and stone cold as in chilled on the inside. Situation was handled professionally though. Would not rush back
Great food and service everytime
Definitely worth the drive
We enjoyed our dinner, it’s location is beautiful, felt it was expensive for what you got, the wine is over priced, would think twice before returning
I'm just sorry that we got there so late and didn't have time to really appreciate the food you have to offer, I'll just have to come back and spend more time enjoying the wonderful Carpenters Arms.
