Great pub. Friendly staff, fantastic food and a good selection of drinks
Friendly staff, comfortable seating, terrific food. Great location by the sea.
Always a good venue to enjoy oneself.
Very nice place and food
Excllent food and prime location.
Only criticism is the furniture/decor is a bit plain/dated and doesn’t do the venue or food justice.
An enjoyable lunch with the usual high standard of services. One drawback - the gammon was far too salty and had this not been the case it would have been very good.
We have eaten here several times for breakfast and lunch and each time it has been really good
Remember to book but seafood is well worth it
we go regularly and have never been disappointed
Best fish and chips. Tables a little close to the next (where we were sat) in light of covid-19. Other tables were empty so didn't make sense to be so close to another family as was the case with us. But the food and drinks are great, good value for money.
Great experience, lovely view. Thank you very much!
The fish platter and fish pie were amazing . Fish pie had generous chunks of fish , both meals very generous on portion size . Work every penny . Looked forward to the berry crumble but was disappointed as it literally had a table spoon of crumble /oats and a big bowl of the fruit . The best part of crumble is the topping and it was missing . Service was very good , friendly , attentive . A very pleasant meal .
Excellent food, best fish pie ever, great & friendly staff
It's a pub. You can see the sea. Food was pub food nothing more.
Currently table service only. Had service actually checked on us occasionally we would have spent at least £10 more. But they didn't.
Admittedly it was a Sunday evening Dinner booking but I feel a little disappointed. It asks for any special requests during the booking process but no mention was made of the birthday stated, the dish chosen was dry and obviously reheated and the staff just seemed eager for the end of shift. I don’t like giving a negative review but I don’t think our visit on Sunday was very good. Perhaps an earlier time of dining would have bought about a more positive review.
You smashed it, it was banging ...
Will be back for sure
Lovely service and great food. Highly recommend
Excellent breakfast and service. Obviously quiet surroundings at the moment but overall a very pleasant experience.
We booked the restaurant, but due to it being quite we had our meal downstairs in the pub.
We ate there twice and ive recommended to a friend. Will definitely be back in the future.
Yummy Sunday Roast for 4
No social distancing at all, left straight away.
This pub describes itself as a gastro pub, but it’s more like a carvery. There’s very little about it that says gastro pub! Very dated interiors, with no soul
We had a fabulous meal here and felt safe considering the current Covid issues.
The baked cod and chorizo was delicious as was my panda cotta dessert.
Our party of 6 all went home happy and would recommend this to everyone.
I hadn’t been for years and never to the upstairs restaurant.. service was good and views wonderful. Food nothing adventurous as such but staple dishes done well. Large portions and very very tasty.
Good food, good service ! We have breakfast quite regularly and it never let's us doen
We have been enjoying visiting the Charles Dickens during day trips to Broadstairs for many years, the experience has always been very good and our latest visit which was the first since the coronavirus pandemic was no exception.
I booked a table online as it was the occasion of my sisters birthday and did not want to leave it to chance. The service was all from the table and was efficient and helpful, an excellent range of drinks is available and the food menu extensive but not too overwhelming. As always the quality of the food throughout (we all had three courses) was excellent.
All good with everything
Excellent food, great service, could have beena little more room between tables and winows doors could have been opened to create ventilation but felt safe and welcoming with freindly staff
Amazing food, great service. Clean. I would definitely recommend.
The fridge noise was awful, high pitched noise . Not so good
Excellent food , the best fish pie I’ve ever had and vegetables selection was good .waitresses were friendly and efficient. Covid procedures in place felt very safe
Regularly eat Breakfast in this Restaurant, food always good and staff friendly and helpful.
Such a good meal at The Charles Dickens. Would thoroughly recommend it.
Excellent location. Greeted with a smile. Table request honoured with a perfect sea view. Food very good and well presented. Would highly recommend.
Good meal and very good covid compliance. Bonus was 25% off Monday to Wednesday which we only found out about on arrival.
Pleasant Sunday lunch, sitting upstairs with a view of the sea. Service & food good. One criticism is that although there was plenty of rare beef & roast spuds, there was v little in the way of green or other veg - one small parsnip, small ramekin of cauliflower cheese, only one small carrot & a couple of green spinach(?) leaves wrapped round the carrot. Prefer veg to outweigh the meat & carbs. When asked if everything was OK, I commented on the lack of veg, & hoped we might be offered extra - we weren't. My friend had lamb, which was too pink for her, it would’ve been good if offered the choice of how rare we wanted the meat (luckily, the rarer the better for me). More veg please!
Not the warmest of welcomes by female waitress. Food very average. Mussels were amazing and huge. Very little social distancing tables were packed in tight.
Good family dining experience and friendly service.
This was one of the places recommended and it didn’t disappoint. The food was really good, particularly the chilly squid. Staff very friendly and efficient service.
Friendly staff and food was delicious.. we had a window seat table but it was quite dark but can imagine in the summer months the view being lovely!
The only criticism was there was quite a long wait between our starters and main meal but otherwise an extremely pleasant dinner experience!
Food and service good, but not great. I was concerned that social distancing was not managed very well as one customer was at about 1m away from me, albeit he had his back to me. Could and should have managed space better.
