The Chequers - Bath
The menu compromises of refined, beautifully presented modern British fare, but The Chequers stays true to its roots by also offering a classics menu. The Sunday roast is legendary and won the Bath Good Food Award for best Sunday lunch in Bath. Add to that a great wine list and a selection of well kept local ciders and ales and you have The Chequers.
We're located just a short walk from some of Bath's most famous landmarks – the Circus and the Royal Crescent. So whether you live or work locally, or are a visitor to Bath, you're equally welcome and we look forward to seeing you.
Dinner: Monday - Saturday: 6pm - 9:30pm and Sunday: 6pm - 9pm*
Stunning food and service
The Resaurant was great especially as Open Table had failed to transmit our reservation to them. Fortunately the staff found us a great table. Great service from Chequers, very poor from Open Table!
Very good restaurant with reasonable price that you should choose for hanging on the Sunday afternoon with friends
We went to The Chequers for my boyfriend’s birthday. The staff were friendly and helped us mark the occasion. The food was amazing. I highly recommend the roast!!
The food is exceptional (everyone should try the taster menu) and the staff are equally good; clearly enthusiastic about the food and wine
Great neighborhood gastric-pub. Food was excellent and the service superb. It is tucked away out of the hub-bun of Bath but is worth the walk. Best fish and chips I have ever had the pleasure to consume.
We eat here regularly, if infrequently, as it's our local.
The food is always of a high standard and reasonable value, although £8+ for a single scallop may be pushing it. The fish and chips was enjoyed by two of our party and although the batter looked particularly well browned on this occasion, the fish was not over cooked.
The wine list currently has some interesting bottles and is reasonably fairly priced. I expect we will be back again before long.
As always a delicious meal. Well presented and served. Such friendly people. Wonderful. Thank you
We had a family Sunday lunch at Chequers. We have been many times before and it always lives up to expectations. The vegetarian roast is delicious.
We booked for our wedding anniversary, which we were wished a happy anniversary when greeted ( nice touch )
Food was amazing, staff professional and friendly, thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
While visiting Bath, we were looking for a simple casual meal after a long day of travel. This really hit the spot. The food was excellent - as starters we had the pickled beetroot and goat cheese and the salt and pepper squid. We shared an ample portion of beer battered haddock and chips - very tasty. The service was great and the prices were reasonable.
3 course lunch menu was fantastic. I had beetroot starter, beautifully presented, and delicious. Main was lamb, little crispy anchovies married wonderfully with the rest of the dish. Peanut semi freddo for dessert...didn't think I'd have space for it but once I tried it I had to commit myself to eating the whole thing! Gin cocktail was fab too, service excellent. Can't fault a thing. :)
The Chequers is our local and we go for lunch or dinner or just a beer from time to time. On this occasion it was lunch with a friend. A very hot day meant that there were few customers. Nevertheless, it was pleasant to be there and we were well looked after.
The food was to the usual high standard and we had a very pleasant time.
Always excellent food and service at Chequers, favourite is the Sunday sharing roast which even on a very hot day was a great choice. Service goes beyond the norm, friendly, helpful staff who are happy to accommodate special requests. Recommended.
We had a wonderful dinner at The Chequers on Friday evening and will definitely return again. In fact I don't really know why it's taken us so long to eat here as it's only 15 mins from our house! Excellent food and wine choices and enough of a choice for my vegetarian husband.
Fathers Day lunch with a free pint for Dad and a table in an area specifically for grown ups. Pretty perfect for us, great food and lovely non intrusive service. We will be back.
Food was amazing & as was the service. Would highly recommend, will be coming back! Delicious Sunday Lunch!
This place never disappoints! Great Sunday lunch! They even made me a calamari starter that’s not usually served on Sunday!
Was so disappointed with our visit, upon arrival greeted in a very friendly manner and pointed towards our table. Took a little while to get some drinks ordered but the waitress was really friendly so let it pass and ordered our food not long after that (main course each and some bread for the table) .. so far so good bread arrived and the restaurant started filling up... after quite a while with no sign of our food we noticed that all the other diners who arrived well after us where all tucking there meals. By this point we had been there over an hour so politely asked how much longer it would be, to which we were told there is a table of diners having the tasting menu and there food was essentially getting priority over our meal of Fish and Chips and Tagliatelle... eventually just before 10pm (our booking was for 8.30pm) the food turned up. Fish and chips was ok ish but the pasta was inedable . When asked if the food was ok I told who I think was the manager that it wasn’t and explained why...the pasta had actually gone hard so it had either been microwaved of been sitting under a heating lamp for a considerable amount of time. The Manager could offer no explanation as to why the food was so bad and why it really did take over an hour to get to us. Even though they removed all the food from the bill we where still left annoyed and worse hungry as my pasta was left uneaten. Would have loved to have recommended this place but sadly can’t. I’m sure the customers having the tasting menu would disagree. The Chequers needs to decide if it’s a high end restaurant or a gastro pub, it’s promising both but delivering only one.
Absolutely fantastic meal. Delicious Halibut. 5 stars to the chef!
Excellent friendly service and a lovely gasto pub Saturday afternoon late lunch
We both had beef, which was delicious. The roast potatoes were particularly good. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent and so was the Argentinian Malbec.
I am so glad we chose this restaurant to dine in. Every mouthful was a joy and staff eager to please. Thank you for the salted caramel fondant !
Great food and friendly staff. Highly recommend Thai restaurant if you take a day trip to Bath. Fish and chips was one of the best we had in England.
As soon as we entered The Chequers we were met with their friendly staff, the food was presented very well on the plates & with excellent flavours.
The only criticism would be that the main meal my friend ordered ( belly pork) could have come in a slightly larger portion as if he had been aware of this he might have chosen something else.
Congratulation to all the staff that were working Friday evening
We will definitely return
Ate here while on vacation in Bath. Food was great as was service. Would definitely be a regular if we lived there!
Had Sunday lunch here again and once again it was served very lukewarm. I complained and without hesitation they prepared a new meal for us....it was a little hotter but still not very hot. This is a pity because the food itself is lovely and the meat is cooked superbly...such a pity they don't serve it hot. They did recompense us by not charging for the desert which makes me want to give it another try. This has been a problem in the past though.
Food that looked amazing but also tasted fantastic. I was worried the salted caramel fondant would be too sweet but it was perfectly balanced with the strawberries. And a strawberry sorbet that tasted exactly like strawberry jam - incredible!
An extensive wine list and knowledgeable staff who can make suitable recommendations based on your food choices. Attentive and polite service and a chilled atmosphere.
A charming pub with absolutely exquisite food.
We found this local gem while looking for a dog friendly pub close to the centre of the city. The sunny ambiance, great wine selection and superb French cuisine were a delightful surprise. Have returned since our first visit to find it just as good second time around. Highly recommended - for dog-lovers and everyone else!
There was little choice in the menu and many things in it were not available. Still, what there was, was good. In particular the haddock was extremely fresh and very well cooked. If you are not fussy and are prepared to eat what they have, you'll be OK.
Great food, relaxed atmosphere and excellent service.
The Chequers provided the setting for wonderful reunion evening with friends; An excellent variety of dishes, attentive, friendly staff, and a lively atmosphere . The restaurant was full, yet the tables were very well spaced so conversation was not hindered. I would definitely go back again and recommend highly.
Lovely food and good beer in a chilled out gastro pub environment. The two of us had a lovely Friday night meal. The food was excellent, very good wine and the service was warm and friendly. My only tiny quibble was the delay bringing the side dishes - we were well into our mains when they came. It was very busy so maybe this was a one off - it won’t put me off eating here again very soon! Thanks for a lovely evening.
Enjoyed a lovely Sunday Lunch at The Chequers - food delicious and tasty as always..
Best Sunday roast I have had for a long time. Will be hard to beat.
Chose The Chequers because of its excellent reviews and was not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed, the food and wine were great and the service was super. Very happy and looking forward to a return visit.
Friendly staff and fabulous food - plus we enjoyed watching the kitchen in action, which has a viewing window upstairs
Great food, perfect Sunday roast/ generous servings. The lamb to share was delicious!
A friendly local pub with good food . Unpretentious and relaxed. Service was attentive. Food was freshly cooked . There was a good selection for lunch.
