The Chequers - Bath
The menu compromises of refined, beautifully presented modern British fare, but The Chequers stays true to its roots by also offering a classics menu. The Sunday roast is legendary and won the Bath Good Food Award for best Sunday lunch in Bath. Add to that a great wine list and a selection of well kept local ciders and ales and you have The Chequers.
We're located just a short walk from some of Bath's most famous landmarks – the Circus and the Royal Crescent. So whether you live or work locally, or are a visitor to Bath, you're equally welcome and we look forward to seeing you.
We enjoyed a super Sunday lunch here on the 17th September. Great food great service.
This was the second time we visited the Chequers after luckily finding the restaurant on trip advisor while we visited Bath last November. The staff are very welcoming, and we’ve really enjoyed the food and antmosphere. The roast potatoes weren’t quite as nice as the first-time Sunday lunch we had, but overall we love this place and would definitely recommend to anyone who is planning to visit Bath. Thank you for having us, and keep up the great work!
As always, The Chequers doesn't disappoint. Food was outstanding with a great variety on the menu. The service excellent and staff very attentive to all of our needs. Would recommend for any occasion.
We were so looking forward to going - a family reunion and rave reviews - 'best food in Bath' to look forward to! The reality was rather different, and I can't put my finger on what went wrong. The food was indeed lovely - really imaginative and prepared with skill. But the waiting time, and the service both left a lot to be desired, and rather took the edge off the experience. The complicated crab starter was missing its little jug of bisque which we had to wait for - by which time the main mousse was tepid. We were told that our grouse main course was 'very small' and that we should order lots of vegetables to fill up on. It's a shame, because there is a very skilled chef and work, but his/her efforts are diluted by the time it gets to the table. We were only a table of 6, but the presentation of the meals was staggered, so that we all had to wait. Frankly, I was rather underwhelmed. And rather cross, as this isn't cheap food. Perhaps these are glitches, but they need sorting out quickly.
Brilliant silver wedding anniversary, staff went out of their way to make our meal memorable, the food was fantastic too.
We came here on a Sunday whilst in Bath for the weekend. We were super impressed with the quality of the food. To start, we shared the Potato Terrine which was lovely and perfect to share between two. My fiance and I opted for the Roast Chicken Sunday Roast and it was incredibly tasty. We typically find roast dinners quite bland but this was full of flavour! Would definitely recommend.
Welcoming, friendly and good service from the staff - Sunday roast lunch was excellent, fresh and tasty - restaurant was busy but the atmosphere was still relaxed...exactly what you want for a traditional Sunday lunch!
Every time I eat at The Chequers the food is amazing! The staff are friendly and knowledgable. I have been on date night, business lunch and birthday meals with friends and family. All have been amazing. Reliably excellent!
Good sunday roast, lovely atmosphere, friendly waiters.
Many pubs offer a Sunday roast but few excell like Chequers. All three dishes we had we beautifully cooked and the vegatables not just an after thought. The deserts did not disappoint.
Enjoyable as ever!
Great value for an incredibly ambitious set menu - attractive
Limited menu with very poor gluten-free options, although this was indicated on booking. Quite expensive given small portioned plates and aggressive over-sell of side dishes.
We simply loved the food and was pleasantly surprised by both portions, quality and creativity of them! Service was excellent and staff was accommodating and hospitable despite the fact that we were 45 mins late! We would definitely come back in a flash!
loved it rare 🍽
Complimentary birthday prosecco
Tooma reserve Shiraz excellent 🍷
Thanks for all your help today👍
we were not happy with the quality of service and food for what we paid. 3 of our roasts were missing vegetables, the pork was missing the puffy skin/crackling. For the price that you pay for the meal, you would expect a little bit better service.
Loved the food I had vegetarian roast dinner which was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. My boyfriend proposed while we were there and all the staff were very nice
We really enjoyed Sunday lunch here. Excellent quality food.
Excellent service and delicious food. Would definitely visit again and recommend it. A lovely spot for my friends birthday
Seriously good food and reasonably priced wine (choose a charity bottle from the board and water gets delivered somewhere). Great service. The salt and pepper squid starter is excelllent!
Great Sunday lunch with family and friends! Beef was a great and always was told pork was fantastic! Potatoes only thing that could have been better but always difficult with Sunday lunch. I look forward to my next visit.
This restaurant is lovely and have already recommended it to the family and the girls in work. Really was special.
Just a little minor thing but maybe my expectations where too high. I preordered two glasses of prosecco on arrival to congratulate the other half on a new job. They did bring the prosseco but because they didn’t say what it was for my other half thought it was an aperitif that they bring anyway therefore taking away the special touch. Really not a big thing at all, just a little touch that would have made it more special. Also we were nearly finished our mains by the time the side came. They did apologise and the service was flawless. Really nice / professional staff.
All in all a really lovely meal.
Thank you xx
Fantastic restaurant. We had a lovely time.
Excellent food quality and excellent service.
Location comfortable and quiet very close to city center.
Once again another outstanding meal from Chequers still to this day the best roast dinner in Bath a must is the Beef washed down slowly with a bottle of Mascota Malbec! Thanks again guys! X
Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Very inventive and lovely combinations. My only criticism would be portions were a little small for me. I had the Scallop and Black Pudding and then the lamb
Food was great, I would definitely recommend the steak. There is a limited veditarian dish, pasta or potatoes
Stay are very friendly and helpful, just the right amount of conversation
We had the 7 course tasting menu and it certainly did not disappoint! Each course was a culinary delight. On arrival, we discovered that my husband was unable to eat it due to an allergy - the staff went out of their way to find an alternative for him. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cannot say anything other than positives about this gem of a gastropub.
Amazing Sunday lunch well worth the money with great service
Food preparation took a while, but not only was it worth it, it made a wonderful respite in the middle of the day; I sure hope to return to it again. The food was delicious.
The food and wine was out of this world delicious! Great location in Bath and the staff were all so friendly and knowledgeable.
We love the Chequers. Fantastic roast on Sunday. We also celebrated our daughters 21st birthday there with a dinner. Can not fault them.
The food was excellent as was the service. The lady did bring us the mains before the starters were finished by all, but she was apologetic in a "very good service attitude" way. Nice location too - near the hub-bub but just outside.
Very welcoming, cheery staff. Our main courses were very good and delicious. One of us had lamb and said it was the best lamb they’d ever tasted.
Salad was swamped in too much dressing and the crispy squid, was not crispy and was disappointing.
It was lovely to be able to see the young, enthusiastic staff beavering away very calmly and carefully as we ate our dinner.
You excelled yourselves again. Food to die for; service exemplary! See you again next time we’re staying in Bath.
A warm welcome, an elementary interior, imaginative food. We were very glad we choose this restaurant to have dinner, every course was just delightful! Nice winelist too!
The restaurant is nice and well decorated, the waitress kind and proactive. About the food: the roast was well cooked and so the sides but the potatoes were definitely over cooked and hard to cut. The worst thing was the dessert: we wait 20 minutes to be served! A bit too much and we had not any discount for this.
Very helpful and charming staff, and nice ambiance .
Our only adverse comment would be the rather wintery menu. A hot day , we fancied salads or tasty light dishes. The menu did not reflect the time of year or temperature.
Please offer some lighter dishes.
Outstanding for both ambience and cooking - go there!
Stunning food and service
