The Chequers - Bath Ratings and Reviews
The first course of squid was excellent and the addition of chilli was a good touch.
The venison was tasty and my partner described the cod as the best he’s ever tasted.
The whole meal was perfectly cooked and well presented. We’ll definitely return to the restaurant.
Stayed in Bath for a special birthday occasion. Saw the Chequers on Trip Advisor, proved to be an excellent choice. Excellent friendly service. As it was a birthday we were given complimentry glasses of procecco . We both chose Venison as our main, great choice wonderful mix of flavors. Deserts very good. Overall our most enjoyable meal for a considerable time. Highly rated.
Wonderful date night here. The service and food was really amazing! Could not have had a better way to celebrate a birthday. Was excellent value for the high quality food, ambience and service. Would recommend to book in advance. We got the last table and that was booking a week in advance (sat night).
I pre booked the Chequers after consulting Tripadvisor and really glad I did. Bath was teeming with students being wined and dined by their parents and rugby goers, so we wouldn’t have been able to enjoy The Chequers.
We had the Sunday roast beef which was really delicious and the closest I’ve ever gotten to a ‘home cooked’ roast when eating out. The beef was tender and flavourful. Yorkies and roast potatoes equally good. Seasonal veg faultless and imaginative with a generous side of cauliflower cheese.
I would definitely return for a repeat performance next time we visit Bath.
The whole experience was topped off by super cheerful waiting staff and an interesting view from our table of the kitchen. Many thanks Chequers of Bath!
We really enjoyed our meal at The Chequers. We were sat in the first floor dining area, the window overlooking the kitchen allowed us to watch the food being prepared which was fascinating! The food itself was delicious, we had starters and mains, all of which were beautifully presented and very tasty. Bit disappointed with the dessert options but we were fairly full anyway! The food was reasonably priced for the quality.
This pub was recommended by the owner of the gorgeous Airbnb that we stayed at in Bath. And what a recommendation! An excellent lunch that we had booked for my sister-in-law's 50th birthday. The food was beyond delicious - incredible flavour delivery and beautifully creative dishes. Everything was a treat to eat. The menu was varied and interesting, but a welcome short selection. Each dish was a work of art to the eyes and a taste sensation. This would be our number one food destination for Bath. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Very different if you visit on a Saturday, Sunday (apparently) or weekday. We were there on a Saturday and on a weekday. If you want to check it out as a "foodie place" go on a Saturday evening (different menu (more options), different service, different location (upstairs)). The food was great, you didn't have the feeling you were in a pub (view on open kitchen), service was attentive, waiting times were perfect and the menu high-end.
If you want to check it out as an "upperclass" food pub, go during weekdays. The menu is more limited and contains more "classic" dishes (fish & chips, fried squid, steak, ...) and you are seated on the ground floor in the bar area, however as an advantage it is much quieter! Luckily the wine list (excellent selection) is the same, so we ordered the same fantastic wine on both days! A bit outside the centre, but then again Bath is not such a big place anyway.
Still one of my favourite restaurants in Bath although there were a few faults last time I had dinner here.
The glass of white wine was served to me room temperature so I had to ask for a few ice cubes in it. The waitress didn't offer me the option to change it although I would had expected so.
In regards of food we ordered the terrine as starter and that was served at fridge cold temperature, unfortunately it was also a bit dry.
The experience overall was very pleasant as usual, although with such prices for food and drinks you tend to expect a 5* experience all round.
A really lovely pub. Quiet & out of the way. We went on a Sunday evening. The staff were friendly and attentive. Food was excellent. I had fish & chips and my partner roast beef. We had to wait a long time for dessert but the staff were very apologetic & we were not charged for them. Would recommend a visit if you're in bath.
We arrived to find that Open Table had cancelled our booking! But luckily the staff were still able to fit us in. Interesting choices on the menu, good beer & wine selection too. Flavour-filled food, pricey for 2 courses each but worth it for a memorable meal.
Very relaxed evening. We spent time at the bar before being invited to our table. Service appeared effortless but was of a very high standard. Menu avoids flowery description and simply lists main ingredients. Food was good. Fish particularly fresh and well presented. This venue was a bit off the béate track in Bath, although very near the Royal Crescent, but we will definitely be going back.
