The Chequers - Bath
The menu compromises of refined, beautifully presented modern British fare, but The Chequers stays true to its roots by also offering a classics menu. The Sunday roast is legendary and won the Bath Good Food Award for best Sunday lunch in Bath. Add to that a great wine list and a selection of well kept local ciders and ales and you have The Chequers.
We're located just a short walk from some of Bath's most famous landmarks – the Circus and the Royal Crescent. So whether you live or work locally, or are a visitor to Bath, you're equally welcome and we look forward to seeing you.
Food was fantastic Service and staff was amazing
A lovely local restaurant in a nice location. Very welcoming staff and they were happy to call taxi at end of evening. There is a good choice on the menu and we enjoyed all the dishes and wine. We will be back.
Really lovely food, great service and lovely ambience. Quite pricey but worth it. A real treat.
Friendly service and very attentive. They happily varied the dessert to suit my wife and we had an excellent Sunday roast meal. The wine was reasonably priced and we will certainly go back again when we are next in Bath
The Sunday roast was very nice, big portion. It was nice that they have an open kitchen and you can peek to see what they are preparing. The apple crumble was also delicious.
Thoroughly enjoyable Sunday Lunch. Food was excellent. One of the best Sunday lunches I have had the pleasure to have eaten.
Service was fantastic
Lived up to its reputation. Great menu and drinks options
Excellent meal for a birthday lunch. Food delicious and well presented. Bit noisy with a lively multigenerational celebration table next door. It didn't bother us at all but my parents who are in their 80s struggled a bit with the noise
The food was excellent, my steak was cooked perfectly.Good sized portions and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
Fantastic food, nice and friendly. Really glad we went. Recommend booking.
My daughter’s 18th celebration with mum and dad. Delicious food, with much attention paid to detail. Free desserts and Prosecco because of occasion. Excellent service.
We loved the ambience and the friendly, efficient service. The food was of a high standard and the tables are well spaced apart. We found the choice in the menu a littl limited. Would recommend though.
Perfect Sunday roast beef dinner!! Lovely friendly staff lovely place, I would recommend and... I’ll be back!
Had the Sunday lunch with friends and it was very good value. Between us we had one of each roast, including the veggie option, none of us was disappointed. We had the house red and white plus a bottle of desert wine, all we very drinkable and I would recommend them. Service was excellent.
Great value for money, the food was delicious and a great selection of drinks. Staff were very friendly and attentive - great little find slightly off the beaten track in Bath. Would absolutely recommend for a long lunch in cosy surroundings!
Nice atmosphere. Tad pricey considering how cheap Pork Belly is. No crackling 🙁 Generous portions though.
Fantastic Sunday lunch, friendly service, great gin and great music
A great find - fabulous food, nice ambience and good value. Would definitely go again.
Just had an all round nice time. Food was expensive but the quality was high :)
I booked a table for lunch via operable advising that it was my partner's birthday. On arrival the stuff didn't have a clue. There were fortunately many free tables and after 15 min or so the only other guests left. The service was very friendly but extremely slow, unattentive and kept disappearing. We ordered some steaks advising that they should be cooked medium. One steak was ok but my partner's was bloody. We sent it back it took ages until the waitress came back with it. I had to start eating on my own as my food was getting cold. After my partner's steak finally arrived we found it was still not cooked according to our wish. I ended up giving him my half eaten steak as we were not prepared to wait again. Maybe the stuff is more attentive when there's more guests but in our case it was a flop.
We had lunch and everything was excellent. We wanted it to be quiet, but I would have preferred there to be one or two other tables occupied. Despite this everything was to perfection and I am hoping this becomes a destination for us. We had an excellent meal, a wonderful bottle of wine and were able to chat away from 12:30 until 3:00. Excellent and many thanks.
Wonderful food and really impressed with the thoughtful service.
Very tasty collection of flavours in all food courses
Had roast beef 😍
Really tasty well-cooked food, great wine, friendly staff and a lovely old pub with a fire.
Lovely, cosy gastropub serving the best fish and chips in the world!
Fantastic Christmas Eve lunch at an unbelievably reasonable cost! Only thing I would change is the room was slightly too cold.
Good experience before so booked again - 1800hrs for 4.
Took over 4 minutes to be taken notice of and checked in. Added one extra (Grand Daughter) which to be fair was done quietly and efficiently.
Then took another 10 minutes to get menus once I asked for them - staff distracted by chatting among themselves - not really interested in customers - end of a busy lunchtime shift?? either way, not my fault.
Food arrived in good time but was warm rather than hot.
Portions considerably smaller than last time, Yorkshire puddings soggy - best bit was the cauliflower cheese which was excellent. Probably the only part of the meal that was freshly made.
Lot of money for mediocre food and appalling service, Bath is blessed with many really good places to eat.
Very Very Disappointed - Will not waste my money again - I work too hard for it.
Great food but I think the staff looked a bit miserable :( .
Starter was good, had the squid which was cooked well with a light & crispy batter.
Main of venison was cooked ok but was a pretty stingy portion of meat at about 50g. Accompanied by plenty of good veggies but was upsold seasonal greens as a side by the waiter and both myself & my partner had seasonal greens already included on our mains. Had the cheese board afterwards which was also good. Starter & after a were good, main was on the mean side. Drinks were good and service was very polite & friendly, environment is clean & cosy but prices are high for the size of the mains.
Excellent as ever! Good food with great service in a lovely ambiance.
Great food and service as always at Chequers! On this visit there was a lovely local festive feel.
I was disappointed by our meal after I'd read good reviews. I had a very ordinary roast, and it seemed like the roast potatoes were not freshly out of the oven. The meal would have been improved with more flavour (eg with garlic, herbs, lemon). The restaurant staff could pay more attention to detail, our order was wrong, and the food on offer was very reduced for anyone with a dietary requirement.
With four friends we enjoyed a birthday celebration meal at The Chequers last Saturday evening. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, the service friendly and first class. Excellent value for money and congratulations to the very talented Head Chef Alex Betts and his team for a most enjoyable meal and evening.
Just a great place to eat with family and friends. A good fair priced spot right near the centre of Bath
Our best works Christmas Lunch ever to date! Food was amazing, good sized portions and staff were very accommodating. Wine was exquisite and nothing was too much trouble. We had such a great time, and even a £10 off voucher for everyone to take away! Thank you Chequers!
Superb food, setting and staff!
Great service and food. Can't recommended high enough. Local, fresh and fantastic products put together by incredible chefs.
Service was excellent. No intrusive, polite, honest and confident on every aspects.
Fantastic Sunday roasts, lovely open fires, great pub overall
