The Chequers - Bath
The menu compromises of refined, beautifully presented modern British fare, but The Chequers stays true to its roots by also offering a classics menu. The Sunday roast is legendary and won the Bath Good Food Award for best Sunday lunch in Bath. Add to that a great wine list and a selection of well kept local ciders and ales and you have The Chequers.
We're located just a short walk from some of Bath's most famous landmarks – the Circus and the Royal Crescent. So whether you live or work locally, or are a visitor to Bath, you're equally welcome and we look forward to seeing you.
Provided the best ambiance for my wedding proposal they provided much more than I asked for.
For making our day special
Have always had very good Sunday lunches here. But let themselves down a bit this time.
Roast Potatoes not their usual crispy self and the veg was almost unmanageable. Rock hard in fact.
But I will return.
Very high quality food and a comprehensive gluten free menu at a trusted favourite. The Salted caramel – fondant / strawberry / hazelnut dessert was absolutely stunning.
Lovely Gastro pub
Very nice cosy atmosphere
Excellent soup. Great pasta but fish was average and expensive for what it was and I fed this back to the chef .
We have had great food here before so a good choice for good pub food
Best place in Bath for Sunday lunch. Really delicious and well worth a visit
Really happy in general but would have a minor issue of value for money, I would stress that is was 'minor'
Chequers is an extremely, well-presented, gastro-pub in one of Bath's Regency side streets. The staff were pleasant, professional. We enjoyed a very tasty tomato and red pepper soup. An ideal light lunch prior to attending a family wedding nearby. Its only significant shortcoming is that the immaculately clean loos are in the basement, so may not be easily accessed by disabled patrons. I recommend Chequers as a lunchtime venue and consider it to be one of Bath's hidden gems.
Warm welcome with efficient service. Nice spacious dining area with a good ambience and nice food including roasts. We were in Bath for the weekend and went on Sunday evening so the menu was not as extensive as in the week but still good. Definitely worth a try weekend or weekday!
parking could be a problem at certain times but having got a parking place the food was very good food with excellent service.
Living about an hour away, we always try to get here at least a few times each year. It is our favorite place to celebrate, or just reconnect. The food is always beautiful and we have never had less than wonderful service.
We had a lovely meal here - a very relaxed atmosphere but the food was delicious and the service friendly. Also had a very good wine list!
Had delicious Gin & Tonics and the roast chicken and roast beef as mains which were both cooked to perfection. Would recommend as a must do in Bath!
Nice gastro pub. Good food, menu on the night could have been a little more varied for vegetarians (starter option potato, main option patato on main menu) though there was a soup alternative. Overall very good and staff friendly
Outstanding modern British food - fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients. Excellent service and a really nice atmosphere upstairs in a dining room with a big window onto the kitchen. Liked the wine list for both value and quality, plenty of by-the-glass options. I think this is one of the best all-round places to eat in Bath... Thank you for a fantastic evening!
The Chequers is more pub like than restaurant, but this should not put people off. We went for the tasting menu, and although not fine dining, each course was really tasty and the flavours had obviously been well thought through. The service from Harriet (front of house) was excellent, she is vey knowledgeable regarding matching wines to the food and has put a wine flight together with the tasting menu.
One of the chefs (Ben)took the trouble to come out and introduce himself and talk about the dishes, which was a nice touch.
All in all this may not be michelin star, but is it well worth a visit.
Fabulous innovative cuisine & very friendly service.
We had a lovely evening at the chequers. The food was absolutely amazing and lovely staff. The staff noticed the food took a bit longer than usual so even offered us a free dessert! We will deffo be going back there:)
Nice place but wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again. Very little to raise it
above a good pub. Nice but not good.
We enjoyed a super Sunday lunch here on the 17th September. Great food great service.
This was the second time we visited the Chequers after luckily finding the restaurant on trip advisor while we visited Bath last November. The staff are very welcoming, and we’ve really enjoyed the food and antmosphere. The roast potatoes weren’t quite as nice as the first-time Sunday lunch we had, but overall we love this place and would definitely recommend to anyone who is planning to visit Bath. Thank you for having us, and keep up the great work!
was really looking forward to eating here as heard great reviews. However the roast potatoes were rock hard. Not sure if they were the days before and just heated up but they definitely were not fresh.
Had another brilliant evening at Chequers..!! Staff welcoming...seated upstairs which I like as you can see the kitchen staff doing they’re thing..!! Lovely waitress...service was a little slow to begin with but we weren’t in a hurry so that was ok...the food was superb wine was excellent and everything was just fine...can’t wait to go back..!!
As always, The Chequers doesn't disappoint. Food was outstanding with a great variety on the menu. The service excellent and staff very attentive to all of our needs. Would recommend for any occasion.
We were so looking forward to going - a family reunion and rave reviews - 'best food in Bath' to look forward to! The reality was rather different, and I can't put my finger on what went wrong. The food was indeed lovely - really imaginative and prepared with skill. But the waiting time, and the service both left a lot to be desired, and rather took the edge off the experience. The complicated crab starter was missing its little jug of bisque which we had to wait for - by which time the main mousse was tepid. We were told that our grouse main course was 'very small' and that we should order lots of vegetables to fill up on. It's a shame, because there is a very skilled chef and work, but his/her efforts are diluted by the time it gets to the table. We were only a table of 6, but the presentation of the meals was staggered, so that we all had to wait. Frankly, I was rather underwhelmed. And rather cross, as this isn't cheap food. Perhaps these are glitches, but they need sorting out quickly.
Brilliant silver wedding anniversary, staff went out of their way to make our meal memorable, the food was fantastic too.
We came here on a Sunday whilst in Bath for the weekend. We were super impressed with the quality of the food. To start, we shared the Potato Terrine which was lovely and perfect to share between two. My fiance and I opted for the Roast Chicken Sunday Roast and it was incredibly tasty. We typically find roast dinners quite bland but this was full of flavour! Would definitely recommend.
Welcoming, friendly and good service from the staff - Sunday roast lunch was excellent, fresh and tasty - restaurant was busy but the atmosphere was still relaxed...exactly what you want for a traditional Sunday lunch!
Every time I eat at The Chequers the food is amazing! The staff are friendly and knowledgable. I have been on date night, business lunch and birthday meals with friends and family. All have been amazing. Reliably excellent!
Good sunday roast, lovely atmosphere, friendly waiters.
Many pubs offer a Sunday roast but few excell like Chequers. All three dishes we had we beautifully cooked and the vegatables not just an after thought. The deserts did not disappoint.
Enjoyable as ever!
Great value for an incredibly ambitious set menu - attractive
Limited menu with very poor gluten-free options, although this was indicated on booking. Quite expensive given small portioned plates and aggressive over-sell of side dishes.
We simply loved the food and was pleasantly surprised by both portions, quality and creativity of them! Service was excellent and staff was accommodating and hospitable despite the fact that we were 45 mins late! We would definitely come back in a flash!
loved it rare 🍽
Complimentary birthday prosecco
Tooma reserve Shiraz excellent 🍷
Thanks for all your help today👍
we were not happy with the quality of service and food for what we paid. 3 of our roasts were missing vegetables, the pork was missing the puffy skin/crackling. For the price that you pay for the meal, you would expect a little bit better service.
Loved the food I had vegetarian roast dinner which was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. My boyfriend proposed while we were there and all the staff were very nice
We really enjoyed Sunday lunch here. Excellent quality food.
Excellent service and delicious food. Would definitely visit again and recommend it. A lovely spot for my friends birthday
Seriously good food and reasonably priced wine (choose a charity bottle from the board and water gets delivered somewhere). Great service. The salt and pepper squid starter is excelllent!
