The Chequers - Bath
The menu compromises of refined, beautifully presented modern British fare, but The Chequers stays true to its roots by also offering a classics menu. The Sunday roast is legendary and won the Bath Good Food Award for best Sunday lunch in Bath. Add to that a great wine list and a selection of well kept local ciders and ales and you have The Chequers.
We're located just a short walk from some of Bath's most famous landmarks – the Circus and the Royal Crescent. So whether you live or work locally, or are a visitor to Bath, you're equally welcome and we look forward to seeing you.
Had a great late lunch, food was really good, the Sirlon of beef was perfect, all of it was pink and very moist, the belly of pork was very fatty, but what meat there was was really good. What we liked was we were not rushed. Highly recomend it..
Enjoyable evening with friends. Good food and friendly attentive service. Thankyou.
We were disappointed with the promised ‘seafood weekend’ the oysters were excellent but the Hake main course very poor. Small portion of very dry fish, virtually no sauce and hard to eat vegetable .
Our guests are stringy squid and a tasteless seafood soagetti- 2 prawns and a couple of mussels do not constitute a seafood pasta dish.
The noise level was uncomfortable and whilst the service was Ok it was very amateur. We declined a pudding due to poor quality of main course and the noise.
We have always loved the Chequers and jumped at a chance to book a table for their British Oyster and Shellfish weekend. Sadly it was far from what we had imagined, The seafood platter consisted of 4 shelled Thai prawns, 8 cooked mussels, a small dish of white crabmeat, a spoonful of cockles and an oyster, all this for nearly £30 ! Very disappointing indeed. We were expecting a big round plate of ice topped with fresh prawns, whelks, clams and either a whole crab or whole lobster..... Too much to hope for. I must say the rest of the time we have always eaten very well at the Chequers, but the Shellfish weekend might need a rethink.
This was our first visit and we will definitely go back. Great atmosphere quite intimate but still a nice buzz going on. The food and service was exceptional and also really great value. Would highly recommend thank you!
Best pub roast I've had... the beef was incredible!
Delicious food. Well presented. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Service was good. A bit expensive but my husband and I had Artisan bread, mains , deserts and drinks so we could have cut back if we wanted. However, it was my birthday treat and I am worth it !
Good value good, pleasant and friendly staff. Good dining experience
We ate here on the hottest night of the year. The food was very good as always, although the tomato starter dish seemed rather ordinary and under seasoned.
The whole plaice was excellent, ditto the burger and wood pigeon. We had not finished our wine, but the staff very kindly wrapped cling film around it to allow us to take it away.
A very enjoyable evening.
Lovely! Attentive staff, nice food! Good value. Thank you!
We have been several times and will be back
The champagne to start went down very well but, more important, the food was excellent. We had been there two days before and everything was just as good.
Very attentive service, however food was pretty standard.
Great food, excellent roast. Service efficient and welcoming
Good food, and very good service. Only slight issue might be that the toilets are down steep stairs.
Brilliant dinner. Inventive menu and beautifully cooked. Not cheap but worth it
We chose here for lunch when we traveled to Bath. The food was absolutely great and the service is friendly and nice, too!
Service was amazing! The staff were very friendly. Food and drinks were great.
Keep going back to Chequers in Bath. Always consistently good. Well run and team always happy and as a customer keep recognising the same staff faces even though only in town once or twice a year. Food fab as ever
A nice Sunday lunch but not outstanding. The upstairs dining room had a good ambiance and was buzzy, and I liked the window to the kitchen.
The stairs leading up from the ground floor were really slippy, perhaps there had been an oil spillage, but it gave a bit of a grubby feel as we took our seats. Our waiters were attentive and helpful. Overall a good lunch - somewhere I would try again for an evening meal.
We had a lovely meal to celebrate our anniversary at The Chequers - it's a friendly local in close walking distance of Bath city centre, serving delicious food with generous portions. It was Sunday night so fairly quiet but I presume it'll be much busier on a Friday or Saturday so would recommend booking!
A cute pub with friendly service. The Sunday roast was excellent. I would definitely come again.
Excellent lunch thank
Nice to find traditional Sunday English main course
That was all we needed. BUT I wouldn’t put Yorkshire pudding with anything other than with Beef . It was served up with lamb for me and there should be a suet pudding instead as you are trying to be traditional on Sundays !
Shared roast platter was delicious. Good wine selection. Service just right. Sticky toffee pud was nice enough but might have been a bit less cake like. Overall, a really good meal.
Amazing Sunday roasts!
Was recommended this place by a friend from Bath and oh what a great shout! The roasts were amazing and exactly what we were craving! Service was spot on and as this was a birthday celebration they even presented a candle and free desserts- totally unexpected but greatly appreciated!
Great value for money and of course happy to pay full! Recommending this to friends/family visiting Bath.
Food really great but I was so disappointed with the service and that totally ruined the experience. I was expecting better service at a place like this. The staff were friendly but seemed uninterested in the guests, and serving them. The place is so charming and food great so I would recommend it, but I would warn people to not expect outstanding service.
Great spot for a casual Sunday lunch. Service friendly and efficient. Really enjoyed the sharing roast.
The portion could be bigger, but definitely the best roast beef in Bath! Pity they only serve roast on a Sunday, otherwise we would be there more often.
We had an excellent Roast (beef). The meat was delicious and very well cooked. Very refined dessert. We could go with our dog who was warmed welcome by the staff. Overall a very good experience. I would definitively recommended to a friend.
We had a friends and family get together over Sunday lunch and it was excellent - to quote my 10 year old Godson ‘that was the best roast dinner in all my life!’
Food was good although maybe a little overpriced. When we were there the outside door was propped open which meant that we were sitting in a draught and didn’t do much for the atmosphere
Wonderful food in a lovely period pub with a very friendly welcome. Just round the corner from The Royal Crescent and The Circus but an oasis of calm. Will definitely be going again.
Service, setting, offering all absolutely fantastic. The cooking of the food was brilliant. The only thing that let the meal down was the quality of the meat.
It would be interesting to know who your butcher is. Other than that, absolutely brilliant.
From the moment we walked in the staff were happy and friendly which gave us a good feeling. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were incredibly helpful and efficient. It is a little bit more expensive that some other places but it’s completely worth it for the quality of food and drink that you get. I would definitely recommend a visit.
We had a cauliflower soup that was the best I’ve ever had. Outstanding food and service - would highly recommend!
Had the traditional Sunday roast dinner and it was delicious. Fish and Chips were great too.
Great place - simple menu and good food served promptly. Wine list good too and we’ll priced.
Really nice evening - thanks.
Absolutely love it here. The food is fantastic, cozy place, and friendly. Highly recommended!
