My wife and I booked the Chequers for her birthday celebration, because it is reasonably local to where we live, dog friendly and the reviews were excellent. We were not disappointed.
A lovely evening with lovely staff who were friendly and attentive. The food we ordered was of a high standard, beautifully presented.
Food at The Chequers is always sublime - we all had three courses and every dish looked and tasted amazing. Service was friendly and effecient and the tables are spaced far enough apart to not feel cramped but still enable us to appreciate the warm atmosphere. Particular hats off to the chef though - we are very lucky to have such a talented individual working so locally. Not the cheapest of 'pub' meals but you get what you pay for and it really is worth every penny.
We eat here regularly. The service is always friendly and the food varies and is lovely. I had pheasant on this occasion and it was exquisite.
very nice atmosphere and nicely prepared food. Overall well worth a visit
Good food, friendly and attentive staff. People welcome you nicely when you arrive.
Very impressed with the overall experience, lovely restaurant very well spaced tables, attentive but not overattentive staff, superb food and very timely serving, ambience was lovely and the staff were very amiable. Good choice of food, I had the burger and my wife had sea bass, both were sublime and good portions, the spicy sauce with the burger was to die for. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and quite well priced. Will definitely be going back for one of their High Teas.
The food was excellent. House wine was great. Friendly staff and cosy ambience. Reasonably priced. What more could I ask for?
The Sunday roast was great, plenty of meat & veg. The pork crackling was done to perfection. My mum had the vegetarian option which looked amazing and she said was lovely. My dad loved the choice of ales. Staff were really friendly and we weren't rushed at all.
This is more of a special occasions venue, as it is quite expensive if you work your way through the menu, but of course you can have just a main, we were greedy ! Very attentive staff, good selection of food, nicely presented .
Overhyped food offering. Mediocre and nit worth the high prices they charge. Dull atmosphere.
Excellent food, relaxed place. As ever the service was good, discreet and helpful.
We will return.

Great pub that fed us well after London-Cambridge bike ride. Limited vegetarian options but delicious beef and chicken for the rest of us :-)
Excellent food- steak was perfectly cooked and very tender, sea bream was tasty and moist and a 'small portion of chicken please' was delivered exactly as requested. A request for gluten free was dealt with discretely and a treat to be able to still have (gluten free) rolls to nibble whilst waiting for main course. Desserts were well presented and tasty- especially recommend the chocolate fondant. Excellent service- will certainly be returning!
Lovely meal. Excellent steak. Yummy coffees. Brilliant service. Will certainly go be!
Food acceptable if uninspiring, service good but restaurant completely lacked atmosphere on a Friday Lunch time with only 4 or 5 diners.
Have enjoyed several meals at The Chequers, last one being their 'Japanese' evening. Never tried a sushi dish before......excellent! Both my husband and I enjoyed the rest of our Japanese meal. Service was very good, food was hot. Very friendly and welcoming. Jenny.
Well worth a visit especially for a special occasion. The food not only tastes good, but is well presented. Service is also excellent- nothing is too much trouble.
They ran out of food early on in the evening and not offering a substitute!
My mother and I had lunch here on a Saturday. The atmosphere was welcoming and staff friendly and attentive. Lunch menu was small but consisted of a range of dishes, including sandwiches.
We had a main meal (chicken) and a duck ciabatta; both were delicious, although the chicken dish was small for its £14 price tag and my mother was still hungry.
This is a quiet, tucked away gastropub and we enjoyed the time we spent here.
Managed to get booked for 3 of us on the day before Valentine's night so, that was lucky
The write up's we'd seen were encouraging but the evening out was better. Delightful in fact.
Very attentive service without being over the top , homely kind of atmosphere (who needs loud music!) and the food was outstanding.
We will be back
Celebrated wife's birthday with a memorable evening meal in pleasant surroundings. Food was outstanding and the service friendly and attentive.
Returned at lunch time two days latter to celebrate daughters birthday together with her husband and two grandchildren. Daughter is dairy and gluten free and her special food requirements were accommodated. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Childrens menu was available.
Attentive, friendly service, delicious menu with difficulty deciding what to choose! Fair menu prices, piping hot, some unusal twists that make a change as so many menus are the same and attractively presented. Will definitely return to try the other mains I was tempted with! Just slightly chilly, take a cardi!
All I can say is WOW! this dinner has got to be one of the best meals I've had, the food is of an excellent quality, personally I think the chef is wasted in this local pub however, the waiter was lovely very attentive and friendly the only downside was for a while we were the only one's eating in the restaurant so it did lack some ambience however the actual pub was busy and ticking over nicely.
My wife and I visited for her birthday meal. From the outsideitlooks much like any other country village pub. Inside there is a spacious dining room and very friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent, of particular note was the halibut and the cappuccino creme brûlée. We will most certainly be visiting again.
Excellent roast. The tastiest vegetables i have eaten in a long time. The cappuccino crème brûlé to die for. Good value for money And attentive service
Having visited the pub one lovely afternoon visiting the Wimpole Estate, we noted what they served and we planned to use the restaurant, which we did this Saturday.
When we arrived, we were informed early on that there was a 11 person party ahead of us and there might be a await for the main course. I don't mind that, if you are informed and your expectations managed. There was complimentary home made/fresh bread and oil, which was lovely and kept us going. Meal was all served together. I had duck with plumb sauce and mash. Lovely presentation, wonderfully cooked duck and tantalising flavours. Everyone's dishes also met with the same approval. And portion sizes were just fine!
Desert I went for the cheese which had a good 8-10 crackers and four cheese, all different and enjoyable flavours. Everyones else's deserts went down well.
I can't fault the quality of the meal and at a reasonable price for the mains though the deserts were all £7(cheese £8) which was probably £1-2 more than I expected. Wouldn't stop me returning, just observation given pricing compared to similar restaurants.
Service was attentive, engaging and informative.
All in all, lovely memorable evening and would highly recommend.

Excellent and imaginative food with terrific presentation and clear explanations from the staff. I would definitely try to go again when we are in the local area. The smoked eel starter was both spectacular and delicious.
A very secure hand in the kitchen producing flavour-infused foods that often have a well-thought out hint of Eastern spices. Fabulous welcoming service from all the staff we encountered, and a lovely calming atmosphere. Good wine menu, also a reasonable selection by the glass.
Found this place while looking for somewhere in the country for a Sunday lunch and what a find! Amazing food and nice setting. Will definitely be added to our list for regular visits!
Our first time eating at the Chequers but certainly won't be our last. We went for Sunday lunch and from start to finish it was a pleasure. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable without being intrusive. The menu was extensive enough to give a varied choice and the food arrived beautifully presented, hot and delicious.
We felt relaxed and happy at the end of our time spent at The Chequers
First visit to the Chequers. The food was delicious. Such good food combinations. Presentation great too. All in all a very pleasant experience.
Have eaten out a lot lately in and around the Cambridgeshire area, this was by far one of the best meals I have had in a while. Highly recommend 3 generations all enjoyed the meal
