The Chester Arms Chicheley Ratings and Reviews
After many years of not dining here we returned and was more than pleasantly surprised with the warm welcome, pleasant staff, well cooked food and great atmosphere.
This is in our opinion a British Pub with food at its best, I had the blade of beef stew that was excellent, the meat just melted in the mouth, our friend had ribs, clearly the largest joint of tender Pork spare ribs I have seen in many years. The ladies both had fish (large piece of meaty cod) and were more than satisfied
The whole experience lead to a super evening and four happy customers. Thank you.
We went to the Chester Arms last weekend and had not been there for about 10 years! We will not be leaving it so long next time. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and polite. The food was very good. There were vegan and gluten free menus including vegan wine which was impressive.
We had a sharing board where you could choose what to add from a list which was very nice. The food from the 'grill' includes a side of potato and veg or salad, again you could choose from many different options.
It was my birthday and I had no regrets about choosing the Chester Arms. Will hope to return soon for their live music evenings which are advertised on their website.
The food was fantastic! Good quality steak, cooked just right. The ribs literally fell off the bones. The pork was moist and tasty. Calamari was fresh. All in all a memorable meal which I'm sure will call our hungry stomachs many times in the future :-)
Great Vegan, Gluten Free and Dairy Free menus, not that we needed them but good to see.
The service was very attentive but not overbearing, and nothing was too much trouble, we felt really welcomed here. THANK YOU!!
Ate on Sunday night. Chose this pub for its proximity to Luton Airport without taking us too far off our route back to Leicester. Manager rang in the morning to advise that tha kitchen closes at 8pm on Sunday but said they could be a bit flexible if we were held up. We got there with minutes to spare and at no point did we feel rushed. Food was tasty and plentiful, staff friendly. Not in driving distance to be a 'regular' unfortunately but will definitely return if in the area.
Highly recommend 🙂
I was staying in the area on training and wanted to find some where to eat outside of the hotel I was staying and found the Chester Arms. I am so pleased I decided to eat here. The food was excellent. I had the sea bass and it was cooked just right and the side dishes were perfect, and the price was good. As a northerner I always think things are more expensive down south but not so this time, the meals were cheaper than a lot of pubs in my area and the quality was spot on! The staff were lovely and I want to thank Hayley and Joan as they were very attentive and made my visit very enjoyable. I would highly recommend a visit to the Chester Arms to anyone new to the area and if I lived here I would make this my local for sure!
we stayed at Chicheley Hall for one night so I decided to book a table at chester arms rather than eating at hotel . We had a warm welcome when we arrived we were shown to our table and choice on the menu was great throughout our meal the service we had was very good and the food was amazing I recommend the beef and lamb pie last but least the cost was very reasonable . Highly recommend the Chester Arms
Since becoming vegan I've found it frustrating that not many places offer vegan options. I was so happy to discover that this lovely pub even has a separate vegan menu with several starter main and even dessert options. It's so nice to be able to spend time deciding. I went for French onion soup, mixed veggie grill and fruit crumble - all amazing and great friendly service. Can't wait to return to try the other vegan options. I just wish more restaurants would follow your lead.
Excellent as usual. This has been our fifth visit. Only time restraints prevent us from returning
more often. The food is consistently wonderful, very inventive menus and artistic presentation.
A delight on the eyes and palette.
Terrific , friendly and knowledgeable staff.
A gem of a place.
I really enjoyable night the service was excellent and friendly and we could go to bar and enjoy the rest of night with a open fire which was nice and cosy I would definitely recommend it to family and friends and going to book up for my birthday when we can organised a date.
Each time we dine here we are never disappointed. Nothing is too much trouble for the chef & waiting staff. I often have to ask if they can leave certain ingredients out of the meal & it is always done without any fuss. Always recommend to friends, just a shame we have to drive to it. Would be superb to have it on my doorstep.
We used to go to The Chester arms regularly when Phil and his parents ran it but after that it went downhill. I had not known that for the last nine months it again is family run until I saw an Open Table e-mail.
I booked for 18.00 on Mother's Day and a day later a lovely Scots lady rang me to say that they were very busy and they would have to put us in the bar. I said that it was no problem as we had eaten many times in the bar some years before.
The owners and staff were all lovely and we had a drink before ordering. Although I had seen on the website that there was a fixed price Mother's Day menu I had assumed that by the evening it would be A La Carte, but it was still the fixed price menu.
There was still a good choice and our starters were home made ham hock terrine with home made Piccalli, and home made tomato soup; both were wonderful. Our mains were both the Lamb roast, the lamb was a little hard to cut but easy enough to eat, possibly the cutlery. The vegetables were all excellent. I had three scoops of some superb Gelato and my wife had a Panacotta which was also excellent.
As I was driving I had one glass of a gem of a Shiraz and my wife an excellent bottle of a fizzy rose. The coffee was good too.
We will definitely go back for the A La Carte menu. Highly recommended.
Food was reasonable. Varied menu and nicely presented. Unfortunately One of our party ordered medium well done sirloin , but when the steak arrived it was dry, over cooked and about half the size of other steaks served to our group. We didn't ask for a replacement as we had to wait over 50 mins for our food to be served. The other meals were fine, but service is extremely slow.
One of the best places I've visited since I stopped eating meat - there aren't many restaurants (esp in Milton Keynes) that offer much choice for vegetarians but the Chester Arms has no only some veggie options on the main menu, but a whole vegan menu. First time I've ever felt spoiled for choice as a veggie!
All the food was delicious and the service excellent.
