The pub is a nice one. The chicken satay starter was Luke warm almost cold, I do not think it was supposed to be like that. Ham eggs and chips followed and that was very poor and one of my favourite pubby style meals, I have that everywhere. The eggs were obviously left unattended in the pan or griddle as was the gammon. It was pretty dry and not very good. The meal was being bought for me so I decided to keep quiet and not make a fuss and we were discussing business anyway. The cheese board was enormous and I had to take it away, they boxed it for me. The Chester sounded great but I was very disappointed with it and probably will not go there again.

Enjoyed our meals. Cauliflower soup could have been spicier, but otherwise all was very good. Meat generous. Desserts yummy. Friendly service. Will be back.

After looking up reviews we decided to visit one saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised . We love the atmosphere at this pub and the food is delicious and good size portions for the price. The staff are friendly and we didn't wait a long time for food but didn't mind if it was a bit longer and we enjoyed our time there ! It is best to book beforehand to not be disappointed as they can get busy at the weekend and evenings.
Worth the drive from Two Mile Ash in Milton keynes .

I felt like royalty, as the welcome was the best I've ever had from a restaurant. As I had booked and as they were prepared, it felt like the waiters were my best friends. My wife was really impressed on my choice of restaurant.
Asking about beers, the waiter provided a few samples to my table. Beer choices were okay, but not a huge range. I did not chose this restaurant for an evening drinking ales, though, so more than adequate.
The batter on the fish was really nice and crunchy and stayed that way till the last piece, not going soggy after a few minutes.
Pudding was okay as I was quite fully up, and maybe should have been more sensible, therefore I had to force it in. I chose pudding as the restaurant ambience and setting made me have my pudding.

A Friday lunchtime & only one other table eating. Pleasant attentive staff but sadly the food was slightly disappointing for a full priced option.

Went for a last min midweek meal. Food was fantastic, menu extensive, all home cooked and delicious. Really good value for money. I have Coeliac daughter and could not believe the fantastic range of gluten free options, the best I have seen ANYWHERE. The staff were attentive and friendly with good knowledge of the menu. I can highly recommend and we will be back.

Lunch time visit on impulse. We had a voucher given as gift to use so thought we would go for lunch.Extremely welcoming staff, very varied menu to cater for most tastes. We had Pumpkin soup to start accompanied by fresh baguettes. To follow we had Gammon with fresh eggs, rustic chips and leafy salad. The meal was accompanied with a bottle of Viognier. We lastly chose a sorbet dessert consisting of Lemon,Raspbery & Pear.We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and will be visiting again very soon.

We really enjoy the freshly individually cooked meals which arrive nice and hot and are very tasty whatever you choose. There is also an option for those with health issues and intolerances which are also catered for. Not a huge choice of deserts but we always find something enjoyable especially the cheese board.

We had a very enjoyable meal at the Chester Arms to celebrate a family birthday. We had a reserved table in a quiet corner of the restaurant and the service was excellent. The menu was varied and we all had something different. A pleasant spot, half way between Oxford and Cambridge ideal for our family gathering. We will definitely be back. A great find.

Myself and my wife traveled over as it has a god selection of vegan food on the menu for my wife. The food was nice and the atmosphere was quite which was nice. The only thing that i could say that was bad was my fillet steak that should of came out medium well but it came out well to extra well cooked.

I will be going over again as I'm sure it will be cooked more to my liking next time.

Booked as a last-minute Wedding Anniversary meal on a Saturday evening. Booked via internet and although our taxi got us there early, the staff were very accomodating and friendly and we were shown straight to our table. Food arrived promptly and was somewhat filling! (I had the ribs and could only manage half. The staff wrapped up the rest and I enjoyed them the following day). Maybe we shouldn't have had the nacho sharing plate to start but they were SOOOO GOOD. Beer was good as well. All in all, a very enjoyable experience and we will certainly be back. No hesitation in recommending the Chester Arms, particularly if you have a food intolerance - they have seperate menus for gluten-free and vegan.

We arrived a bit early for our booked table but were immediately greeted and our table prepared. The service all evening was very good and the host is very accommodating. The food was good and reasonably priced. Shiraz was good value. Great local pub and just a short walk from the hotel we were staying in. Would definitely return if back in the area

The menu was good for different preferences eg Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free (all dishes listed were available).

If you like to try different Gins there was a good list plus cocktails and wines.

Overall a lovely place 👍

It was great to find this restaurant. My husband is vegetarian and so usually only has one option or at best a limited selection on the menu. The Chester Arms excels at offering those with dietary requirements feel like they are the norm. Thank you for such a varied choice 😊

We booked for 5 people on Open Table but ended up being 6. Landlady suggested that we should have rang ahead to warn them (fair enough - slightly frosty) but there was no one else eating so wasn't a problem.
Menu looked nice but both steaks and the BBQ ribs were substandard. My father was not able to cut his rib-eye - unacceptable for a £20 steak. I was going to complain but my father hates any kind of confrontation so we paid and left, not daring to try dessert!
If you are going to charge £20 for a steak you should start with a nice piece of meat; similarly for the ribs... it was a very poor cut of meat.

I was very disappointed with the service,
I have been on a few occasions and was happy with the service, on this occasion we waited for a considerable long time to have our plates cleared, once we had them cleared we were asked if we would like the desert menu, we waited so long for a waiter to come for our order we decided we would go to the bar, pay the bill and go.

We were recommended the Chester Arms because of its choice of Gluton Free and Dairy Free menus. I booked using OpenTable and left a message saying it was my wife’s birthday. We arrived and things started well. The menu was not too extensive but a reasonable choice. I had the burger which, to get the best value, should be ordered with the 3 optional toppings. I only had one so a simple burger and chips at £12 seemed a little expensive especially when the burger arrived slightly over cooked. My son had the crispy pork which wasn’t crispy because a sauce had been poured over the top. It was also very very salty. Once we got the food, the service tailed off dramatically. We weren’t asked for any further drinks and We couldn’t attract anyone’s attention to get the bill. In the end I got up and went to the bar. While I wasn’t expecting anything for my wife’s birthday, I thought that the restaurant might acknowledge the birthday in some way as they do at the Burch. This is a shame as there aren’t enough restaurants that cater for customers with special dietary needs.

Lovely looking pub and nicely decorated. The staff were very friendly and attentive but not overly.
The food however was disappointing. I had a lamb roast dinner where the lamb was completely overcooked, the spring vegetables although well cooked were absolutely dripping in butter, you do not need to butter vegetables if serving with gravy, it was also weirdly served with pickle cabbage that did not go at all. My friend had the venison sausages which were extremely dry and was only served with mash and no vegetables.
This could have been so much better.

Very busy on Saturday night which we took as a good sign. Two birthday groups there to our knowledge. Food excellent ... good choice. One main course came out of kitchen not as hot as we would have liked but swiftly rectified without any issue. Prosecco was not chilled but again was swiftly sorted with help of ice, water and bucket.

Having visited before, in an evening, and been very impressed we chose to meet friends here for lunch on Sunday. Four roasts ordered, service good but my food was cold as was my plate. It was taken away and returned to me "assured it was piping hot this time" but it wasn't. The food was still only luke warm - I asked my friend to try some and she agreed. It was again taken and returned, this time piping hot. Obviously by this time my three friends had finished eating which was a bit embarrassing as I sat and ate on my own!.. The land lord was extremely apologetic, my meal was taken off the bill and complementary coffees were given. It was handled very well but just a shame it happened at all. Will maybe give them another chance sometime
