All the staff were very helpful and friendly.

The menu was good for different preferences eg Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free (all dishes listed were available).

If you like to try different Gins there was a good list plus cocktails and wines.

Overall a lovely place 👍

It was great to find this restaurant. My husband is vegetarian and so usually only has one option or at best a limited selection on the menu. The Chester Arms excels at offering those with dietary requirements feel like they are the norm. Thank you for such a varied choice 😊

We have been here before and had a great meal, but on this occasion the food was not up to scratch for any of the 4 of us. Service was excellent and the staff were very friendly.

We booked for 5 people on Open Table but ended up being 6. Landlady suggested that we should have rang ahead to warn them (fair enough - slightly frosty) but there was no one else eating so wasn't a problem.
Menu looked nice but both steaks and the BBQ ribs were substandard. My father was not able to cut his rib-eye - unacceptable for a £20 steak. I was going to complain but my father hates any kind of confrontation so we paid and left, not daring to try dessert!
If you are going to charge £20 for a steak you should start with a nice piece of meat; similarly for the ribs... it was a very poor cut of meat.

I was very disappointed with the service,
I have been on a few occasions and was happy with the service, on this occasion we waited for a considerable long time to have our plates cleared, once we had them cleared we were asked if we would like the desert menu, we waited so long for a waiter to come for our order we decided we would go to the bar, pay the bill and go.

We were recommended the Chester Arms because of its choice of Gluton Free and Dairy Free menus. I booked using OpenTable and left a message saying it was my wife’s birthday. We arrived and things started well. The menu was not too extensive but a reasonable choice. I had the burger which, to get the best value, should be ordered with the 3 optional toppings. I only had one so a simple burger and chips at £12 seemed a little expensive especially when the burger arrived slightly over cooked. My son had the crispy pork which wasn’t crispy because a sauce had been poured over the top. It was also very very salty. Once we got the food, the service tailed off dramatically. We weren’t asked for any further drinks and We couldn’t attract anyone’s attention to get the bill. In the end I got up and went to the bar. While I wasn’t expecting anything for my wife’s birthday, I thought that the restaurant might acknowledge the birthday in some way as they do at the Burch. This is a shame as there aren’t enough restaurants that cater for customers with special dietary needs.

Lovely looking pub and nicely decorated. The staff were very friendly and attentive but not overly.
The food however was disappointing. I had a lamb roast dinner where the lamb was completely overcooked, the spring vegetables although well cooked were absolutely dripping in butter, you do not need to butter vegetables if serving with gravy, it was also weirdly served with pickle cabbage that did not go at all. My friend had the venison sausages which were extremely dry and was only served with mash and no vegetables.
This could have been so much better.

Been a few times and never disappointed. Good service good choice and good quality food. There are lots of gastro type pubs in the area with a similar offering, but the Chester Arms does this better than most. Recommended and we’ll definitely return

Very busy on Saturday night which we took as a good sign. Two birthday groups there to our knowledge. Food excellent ... good choice. One main course came out of kitchen not as hot as we would have liked but swiftly rectified without any issue. Prosecco was not chilled but again was swiftly sorted with help of ice, water and bucket.

Lovely pub with a great, cosy atmosphere. The menu is extensive and caters really well for vegans and includes gluten free options. We had roast dinners and the food was great - big portions, fresh and really well cooked. The service by the bad staff and waitress was welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be going back! Thank you

Having visited before, in an evening, and been very impressed we chose to meet friends here for lunch on Sunday. Four roasts ordered, service good but my food was cold as was my plate. It was taken away and returned to me "assured it was piping hot this time" but it wasn't. The food was still only luke warm - I asked my friend to try some and she agreed. It was again taken and returned, this time piping hot. Obviously by this time my three friends had finished eating which was a bit embarrassing as I sat and ate on my own!.. The land lord was extremely apologetic, my meal was taken off the bill and complementary coffees were given. It was handled very well but just a shame it happened at all. Will maybe give them another chance sometime

Really disappointed with this visit. Been twice before and had a nice meal but on this occasion all 5 of us felt the meal was a let down.
Starter was ok... main course we shared vegan burger and vegan stew. The first was very dry and tasteless. Second was ok, but nothing special.
Dessert was also dry.
Won’t be going back - shame as enjoyed previous meals but new spring menu not so good.

Everything was first class. My only concern was that I had a pie some two months previous and it was outstanding. I mean outstanding. The winter menu has been rolled out- all good, but no pie. I cannot think of a bigger mistake, than to leave out the most wonderful dish- especially with Winter with us. A most heart warming and tasty dish.

I’ve been to this pub several times but on this occassion I was very disappointed. All four of us had food which was just warm. The pudding which was a chocolate tart was so hard we couldn’t get a fork or knife in it and had to pick it up and eat it with our hands. The service and staff were great but the food was very dissapointing.

After many years of not dining here we returned and was more than pleasantly surprised with the warm welcome, pleasant staff, well cooked food and great atmosphere.
This is in our opinion a British Pub with food at its best, I had the blade of beef stew that was excellent, the meat just melted in the mouth, our friend had ribs, clearly the largest joint of tender Pork spare ribs I have seen in many years. The ladies both had fish (large piece of meaty cod) and were more than satisfied
The whole experience lead to a super evening and four happy customers. Thank you.

We went to the Chester Arms last weekend and had not been there for about 10 years! We will not be leaving it so long next time. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and polite. The food was very good. There were vegan and gluten free menus including vegan wine which was impressive.
We had a sharing board where you could choose what to add from a list which was very nice. The food from the 'grill' includes a side of potato and veg or salad, again you could choose from many different options.
It was my birthday and I had no regrets about choosing the Chester Arms. Will hope to return soon for their live music evenings which are advertised on their website.
