The Chippy Doon The Lane

You can enjoy traditional favourites such as battered haddock and cod as well as more exotic choices. All will be served in a special recipe batter with traditional hand cut chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. As if that wasn’t enough, there is also a wide selection of soups and salads available at all times.

Was really nice as usual however sad to hear they are not doing full fat/sugar soft drink. Normally like this with meal and tea for after. However helped me be healthy (with fish and chips) to have water 😀
That is what you call a fish supper crispy golden batter with nice chips. Overall very tasty fresh fish 2 and it was a good deal and thank you staff for good service
Great wee place for food, very relaxed and lovely staff
Excellent quality of food and great value would definitely recommend well done chippy soon the lane
First visit & very impressed. Staff so friendly and helpful. Food delicious and served timeously. With no hesitation I will be back.
Really enjoyed our visit. The food was great and the service was great and we will definitely be back. Dont let the lane that leads down off Buchanan St put you off its a real gem.
Loved that it was served in a box. Such good value for money. Lovely fresh tasty fish. Crispy batter. Staff really friendly.
Brilliant fish. White, chunky and chewy. Would have repeated order BUT chips were not too warm. Only disappointment not giving full points
Music was too loud! But overall we had a really nice time
Beautiful food as always
The only thing good was the fish. Chips were soggy, everything served in a paper box. Needs to be staffed properly with at least 2 waiters plus one person at cash register and to seat people and separate person to pour drinks. They only had 2 people to do the work of 4. Found much much better fish and chips on the following night just a few blocks away.
Very attentive staff, food great, chatted to patrons at the next table.lovely
Having been once before I expected the same great service however, that wasn't the case. I had a table booked for 3 pm on Saturday. We arrived at 2.45 pm to be greeted by a member of staff who appeared annoyed that we were 15 minutes early. We indicated we would need to sit and wait as the baby was due a feed. There were only three seats for waiting which were located right next to the busy doorway to the toilets and kitchen access. At 3 pm we still hadnt been seated despite the fact there were numerous large empty tables. After having to ask again at 3.10, we were eventually seated at 3.20 pm. The food was good although all four teas were on the cold side. The waiters also tried to remove plates from the table whilst we were all still eating. There were two private dining parties going on however management should have ensured there were enough staff to serve everyone. Highly disappointed and dont know if I will return.
Lovely fresh fish tea. Drinks very pricey. Service a tad slow but would return as food was so lovely and nice atmosphere.
Hi MrsM, I'm glad to hear you had an enjoyable visit with us on Saturday! I apologise for the slow service you experienced on this occasion, but thrilled to hear the food was up to our high standard. I hope to see you dining with us again soon! Stephen Restaurant Manager
Food was amazing. Cooked to perfection. Here’s to the next visit.
Was a lovely experience food was delicious and the homemade tartare sauce was delicious very enjoyable and ambiance was very good.
Hi Veronica, We're especially proud of our homemade tartare sauce, so I'm glad you enjoyed it! If you haven't tried the Lemon Sole yet, I can't recommend it more; it's my personal favourite. We look forward to having you dine with us again. Stephen Restaurant Manager
Fish was lovely, batter light and crispy, chips amazing, I owned a fish n chippy for many years and very fussy about Fish, outstanding and service also
Nice place, good value, good food. Went on a Saturday evening and service was really quick even though it was busy.
A wonderful supper, thank you!
We were there for a family lunch. They were very short staffed, nobody was there and the lady took a long time to seat us down. When we ordered, it took quite long to get our food and the waitress messed up our order. We ordered onion rings instead we got plain uncooked raw onions. Then once our fish arrived, it was uncooked, the chips were uncooked and tasted bland and nothing had flavour!
Amazing fish and chips. The best we have ever tasted
Service and food amazing as usual will defo go back x
As usual....good as ever. Always a regular of mine
Lovely food and value for money would definitely recommend. Have been a few times now
Great value, great food, nice atmosphere and attentive staff, pity about the entrance.
If you want traditional, well cooked fish and chips but would prefer to sit at a proper dining table to eat them, possibly with a pint, this is the place for you.
Unimpressed with new menu and don't like being welcomed by "do you have a voucher ?" Chippy is trying to be something it's not. Total lack of ambience, lack of o.a.p. menu and just not the same.
Location was a challenge to find so we were pleased that it was worth the effort. Our food was amazing - a bit slow on the service for both food and drinks but well worth the wait. One of our top fish and chip dinners in Scotland!
Fish was absolutely delicious and value for money, was with a friend and could have a lovely conversation without having to shout
Been here quite a few times now and always had excellent service and food. We will be back soon
Ordered a haddock supper but it only had 1 small piece of fish.
Great opportunity to have lunch with Grandchildren.
I am an occasional dinner with the Chippy Doon The Lane and my favorite meal is Cod / chips and mushy peas and a pot of tea not only is it great value at £18 for two. I would recomend to all.
Decent service. Friendly enough but not overly friendly.
Good food and what you would expect.
Food came out hot so no complaints.
Atmosphere drowned out by where we were sitting next to the cooking area.
Food was excellent, however, no wine as stated on groupom coupon. Informed by staff that this was not part of the deal although stated on my printout.
As good as ever. Fresh and cooked to order. No complaints at all.
This may have been a good, off the beaten path spot at one time but it felt like a tourist trap to us.
Food was amazing as always, however, the day I went the service was slow. The restaurant had maybe 5 tables in, and three waiters. We felt like we had been forgotten about. It took over 15 minutes for us to get our order taken, a further 10 before I got my drink (my two friends got their irn-bru after a couple of minutes). Nobody checked on us during the meal, and the waiters stayed near the front of the restaurant almost the entire time. When we had finished, nobody came to clear the table, and so we had to go to the till to pay. Normally the service is great, so I don't know if there was some kind of function on in the adjacent room but I left feeling disappointed by the service.
Lovely fish supper and pot of tea. We will need to return, if only to leave a tip. We felt so guilty not doing so, but had absolutely no cash on us as we had prepaid the meal.
We have been here a few times now and the food I always fresh and very tasty. We had a Groupon voucher for two for two fish and chips and a bottle of wine. It cost £20. Excellent value for money.
