The Chutney is a gem of a restaurant in London’s Wandsworth that locals would surely like to keep to themselves. One look at the blood red designer chairs, bright white walls and pale wood floor of The Chutney says it all: smart, modern restaurant with character. Pretty floral displays adorn the light-flooded dining room. And every dish from The Chutney’s modern Indian menu is a specialty, they say. But if we had to choose highlights they’d be the mirchi lamb, the paneer tikka, the excellent murgh handi laziz chicken, and definitely the Goan fish curry. Additionally, The Chutney restaurant offers a very special carrot pudding. The best table? By the big windows or outside on the grape tree-lined forecourt. With a strong international wine list, friendly service and great location, The Chutney restaurant is a great spot to enjoy Indian cuisine.

I found the food to lack authenticity. The briyani was overly moist and the rice used was short-grained as opposed to the long grain which I am more accustomed to in a briyani. The bindhi dupiaza was unique. It was simply fried with garlic and onions and tasted more like a stir-fry dish. The curries also were too mind and lacked flavour. The naan, the tandoori dishes and the paddadam were ok though. The restaurant was very clean and the prices were reasonably.

We made a last minute booking through opentable. Food was good. Problems started when we asked for the bill. The owner/manager delivered the bill but without the 35% off food Friday night discount advertised through open table. Note- at this point there was no service charge added. The error was pointed out to the manager/owner who blamed us for not asking for it to applied. Reluctantly the bill was reproduced with the 35% discount off food applied BUT now with a 12.5% service charge added to the whole bill!!! When queried again with the manager-owner we were told “the service charge is a condition of the offer”!!!!! Ultimately we saved approx £4 whoopee!!!! What a conman. Never going back there again!!!!

I like Chutney, it is a straightforward local Indian, Fresh food and sensible prices. I had the Chum Chum slow cooked chicken in spices. Different and delicious. Then the chilli giant prawns. I like hot and these were the business. Nobody would want it spicier. I will return

We are a family from Sweden ( with two young kids) and had dinner at Chutney. Food was fine but we hated the ambience and the service. Restaurant is so bland and empty that there was a lot of echo when people were talking. It became very noisy due to this and was hard to talk. The waiters were in some kind of hurry as they were not ready to wait for even 5 min to let us decide the drinks and when we decided they gave us wrong drink ( we were ordering mango lassi but that was finished so waiter suggested lemonade but we got sprite instead of lemonade. When we said it was wrong we wanted lemonade then he said no it was not available ) As mentioned earlier, It seemed they were in hurry and even though kids had food in their plates they wanted to clear the table. We did not feel Welcome at all and will never go there again.

Very sound little Indian with some subtle source combinations. Exceptionally cheap, especially if you make use of the offer. Service is welcoming and extremely courteous. Well executed dishes, some of them satisfyingly different from the standard Indian restaurant formula.

I have eaten here before and as usual the food, service, and overall standard was excellent and extremely good value. I invariably take friends from overseas as an example of a local curry restaurant and they are always very appreciative. This time it was my daughter and grandchildren from Zurich and despite one of them accidentally spilling a glass on the table and floor the staff reacted very well without any fuss. Well done!!
